Yes! 100% yes to longer video's. It gives great insight to your way of approaching a repair. This teaches us even more than the main video. And gives me a more realistic view on how long it can take to do these things. Love to see more of these 'uncut' versions. Although i also like the quick and sped up ones
Using the grinder is pretty destructive. Chris Hertford has the right ideal with the battery terminals. I would have de-soldered them and soaked the parts in vinegar until the corrosion and nickel is stripped off. Then nickel plate it again.
I enjoy the short form version but do appreciate a longer video like this one on occasion. My honest thought about this sort of thing is that you should do whichever version makes you happier. It's no fun watching a guy do something he doesn't enjoy. My favorite auto repair channel, mustie1, basically went the way of the long video, and now his short videos are an hour an fifteen. He prefers it, seems to be happier making videos, and is getting through more projects. That said, I can't dedicate two and a half hours to watching a youtube video, so I rarely get to see what he makes anymore.
*TIP* Buy A Packet Of Assorted Toothbrushes, Start with a soft brush dipped in Vinegar and or Isopropylarene and progress to a firmer brush only if the soft brush fails to loosen crud, In fact I dont use cotton swabs any more as I found using a Toothbrush over a paper towel soaks up Flux wonderfully, No more cotton fibres left on the PCB when cleaning up. APU 👁👍
@StezStix, really like your videos, cause there's always a bit of learning process in it. Just some tips here, better not use IPA to clean plastic. Some plastic reacts bad with IPA and get britle. Like transparent pieces for example. If there is a small crack, IPA can get it much worse. Just disassemble all things out of the shell and give it a nice clean with soap, brush and water. Would also recommend putting the screws over night in vinegar or eqiivalent. And for the battery clamps, better desoldering them and also get in touch over night with vinegar. If really destructed, you can get cheap replacements for this. For the pads - you can use higher temp glue and before soldering parts on it, make it stronger by using soldering mask around it and keep a part free for soldering. Works also with copper tape. For making traces visible in that case, hard grinding is not really good. Have you tried a carbon fibre pencil? Works fine and is not that destructive. You can "erase" the solder mask to make traces visible. I really appreciate your work and all the fun in it. Sometimes it's like watching myself in a mirror. It's not stupid. But yeah, it's stupid at the end, but... :D
Great videos and always fun. I prefer the shorter ones as an hour is a lot to find and the shorter ones fit nicely between beddie-byes and sleepy-time. Thank you anyway…..
Something to consider. There are fiberglass fiber “cleaning” “pens” used for car finish work that works great for removing crud gently from PCBs. I love them.
The battery terminals were a candidate for nickel plating, it's a simple enough process but could refurb them nicely! Also look out for Superglue/CA glue activator spray instant bond could have helped you.
My best results so far has been with epoxy. It needs to be mixed really well as using such a small amount and does need to be left for hours but the result has been perfect every time so far for me.
For that lifted pad, I would have left it soldered to the capacitor while gluing it down. It was aligned perfectly, and made it easy to hold the pad in place while gluing.
Hey Stez, i like the video, but when you are working those terminals, please, please take them out. It’s a 2 minute solder job. After that put them in vinegar, and all the corrosion will disappear while you clean the board. After that, put them back with fresh solder. Much cleaner and no removed top layer as you are doing with the dremel. Other than that, nice job and keep it up! The video’s are….. SOLID!
Steve, never knew you had this channel, sub’d and loving the videos, quick question though, what is the grinding pen your using, and what tips are you using?
When cleaning, I always recommend removing the display. If alcohol gets between the layers of the display, it can really cause issues and ruin the day.
I like both formats. Vinegar's real strength comes with time. Letting things soak in vinegar for 12 or 24 hours generally does a complete rust removal (especially if it's minor).
the battery terminals are just gonna corrode again unless you re-plate them. and the best way to remove the corrosion is to desolder them and then soak them in a rust removal solution (specifically for this type of corrosion) before re-plating them.
@StezStixMix Thanks for the video Steve, good effort. Keep up the great work Sir. FYI. In my experience super glue/crazy glue has never been much help when it comes to sticking on pads to PCBs, instead it just fils the room with toxic fumes once heat is applied.
Steven! I have seen other videos where the device gets fried when you connect the bench power supply leads before turning it on. There’s an initial pulse of voltage that exceeds what your setting is. I think Vince did that once. But apparently you’re supposed to turn on the BPS then connect the leads. Keep up the good work!
I'm pretty sure you can "glue" back the trace using resin rather than glue, you can have some below and then some other the expoxed trace parts that won't have solder on them
19:43 from what I was told those really thin things are actually PCB drill bits. I bought a box of them at a yard sale years ago and asked a tool group what they were.
It would probably have been a good idea to remove the screen earlier than you did, Steve. Also, wash everything you soaked in vinegar with IPA also, no, not Indian Pale Ale !! I was wondering if an ultrasonic cleaner would help in removing some of that awful corrosive green crap? Oh and a smear of petroleum jelly on the battery contacks helps in preventing future corrosion. Other than that, great job and video, Steve !!
What the hell......are you franchising for the BBC. Repeats, repeats and more damn repeats everytime i switch on !! Just kidding.....i love both your short and long form videos. If its viable please continue to upload both versions. Also...love your presentation style and sarcasm. Suits me down to the ground. 5 stars from me.😂
Hey Stez, Have a look into electro plating battery terminals like this.. Its not as scary/hard as it sounds, lots of youtube tutorials for it and it restores things like those battery terminals to almost new, providing there is enough decent metal left under the rust/
Nice to see a full video. But personally when it comes to sorting out the corrosion on the battery terminals you would have been better off ordering replacement one and unsoldering the old ones and putting new ones in. Also sometimes there can be no sound as the headphone jack port can be stuck in the open position. That means if you inserted a headphone in you would hear sound. And when the headphone is removed it’s connector move and bridges itself to go through the actual speaker. This is coz if corrosion and it needs to be freed up and ipa will do the job
Have you considered streaming repairs like TheCod3r does? Save the stream as a VOD over here and post an edit on the main channel? I suppose it could affect view numbers on the edit if your core viewers watched the full version but may be worth experimenting.
Howdy Steve, I really enjoy your videos, and the disassembly raps are great! Just a tip for corroded metal parts, to fully restore them and prevent them from rusting to bits later on, desolder the parts and use a polishing wheel and compound to remove the corrosion instead of a die grinder(does a lot less damage), and re-tin them using liquid tin. That will restore them to new and protect them in the long run. 👍
I have a AGB-001 with all of the power switch pads torn off. I transplanted a janky switch and got it working but I might just transplant the processors to a new board. The corrosion was nuts.
Oh man that was painful. Had to fast forward about six times. Who enjoys watching a bloke using a screwdriver whilst listening to him breathing. Please edit edit edit !! If I want asmr weirdness I will find such a channel
I have a faulty one with a lot of corrosion. the buttons are faulty and the LED power light doesn't light up. I even have extra LED's and a button contact kit so maaaaybe it's fixable, it turns on at least! I'd love to ship it to you for a fix and you can keep it if you'd like. How can i contact you if you're interested :) ?
*ADDENDUM* You can electroplate some nickel back to the battery Terminals By sending a voltage Via some nickel sulphate Solution from a Donor Nickel coated metal placed on one terminal and on the other terminal your Battery Terminals, the voltage polarity decides if you strip your Battery terminal from the nickel coating or it gets coated by the donor, yeah I forgot which way around so a quick google might help you with that..
Well, I kind of liked the other videos. I missed the music, it felt... really weird. I couldn't understand why then BOOM! Where's the music during the disassembly? If it saves you time and effort I guess I could live with it. :)
So... I didn't watch this one as I saw the original shorter video. But 1 hour feels (and is?) long! I think I prefer the shorter ones. Adrians Digital Basement (also a great channel!) often has 1+ hour long videos and I'm a bit ashamed to admit it but I often skip parts of his longer video's. I often don't have / make the time to watch it in real time. Would probably do this too with your 1+ hour videos. But that's just me. Hope this helps.
Hey steve just for the record you cN buy replacement battery terminals and i know a guy who produces custom gbc pcb boards in any color. Watching from Australia 👌👌👌
Yes! 100% yes to longer video's. It gives great insight to your way of approaching a repair. This teaches us even more than the main video. I prefer the longer more raw content personally. I love having this running in the background while I work. Thank you for sharing!
I like the long videos! Plus since I worked in IT for 42 years its fun to watch you figure stuff out.
CA glue is heat sensitive. It doesn't work at high temperatures. You'll have to use JB weld or high temp RTV.
This is by far the best ASMR video out there
Darth StezStix 😂
Love the extra long video. Miss the rap. Always not a stupid video. 😊
Think the shorter form content is a bit better. Plus the gags are kinda what makes your channel unique.
Even if I like you music taste, a video without it (or any singing) is way more relaxing and entertaining! Thanks mate !
I think I just had a Déjà vu..
Using the grinder is pretty destructive. Chris Hertford has the right ideal with the battery terminals. I would have de-soldered them and soaked the parts in vinegar until the corrosion and nickel is stripped off. Then nickel plate it again.
You can also get replacements for, really cheap and fresh...
Ste demonstrating why it's not a good idea to sprinkle corroded iron fillings all over a PCB. 😂
Love these longer videos. Keep them coming
Great video and thanks for the longer version. The 'No' at 37:47 gets me - that's the sound of someone deflating very quickly!

The level of patience and not-rage-quitting around 25:00 is astonishing
So glad you had Darth Vader there to help you 😂
ASMR for those with a Dental fetish. Wonderful to see you bring these back from the lost.
33mins in (so half way)..
It's the longest vid ive seen from this chap.
From the heavy breathing, im expecting to here "Luke, i am your father"..

Enjoyed this,no inane music, no need to fast forward.
Loved it.
Keep up the good work
Noooo, I really like the music and Rap shout outs during your teardowns. Bring em back Steve, pretty please.
I like the longer videos. Quite honestly no need to rush through showing the repairs for us nerds.

Thanks for the 1 hour long entertainment, please do more, your so fun to watch
That was nice! A full hour of fun 🙂 Thank you and have a merry christmas!
Something to consider. There are fiberglass fiber “cleaning” “pens” used for car finish work that works great for removing crud gently from PCBs. I love them.

I like these long videos steve , showing every detail of work .
Uh, 1 hour of StezStix fixing stupid things? Sign me up! Ok maybe I'll just subscribe.

more hand held console repair videos they are so much fun to see, thank you

Nice set of screwdrivers, Stevz. Keep up the good work.
0:46 Nice screwdriver flex there. 🤣

It might be an interesting addition to see Stez do some nickel plating
You, my friend... have the patience of a Saint. Well done mate 👏 👍 👌 🙌 Very entertaining
@StezStixMix Thanks for the video Steve, good effort. Keep up the great work Sir.
FYI. In my experience super glue/crazy glue has never been much help when it comes to sticking on pads to PCBs, instead it just fils the room with toxic fumes once heat is applied.
Old or new, sick with the flu, and as odd as it sounds, the video is very comforting.
Steven! I have seen other videos where the device gets fried when you connect the bench power supply leads before turning it on. There’s an initial pulse of voltage that exceeds what your setting is. I think Vince did that once. But apparently you’re supposed to turn on the BPS then connect the leads.

I enjoy both the long and snappier vids, but sometimes feel the short ones are just a little too short. Maybe a happy medium of 25 minutes or so? 🙋♂️
I can hardly hear you breathe in this Steve😳
I'm pretty sure you can "glue" back the trace using resin rather than glue, you can have some below and then some other the expoxed trace parts that won't have solder on them
where did you get your little book of capacitors? I really like it and want to get one of my own.
Probably aliexpress
I definitely miss the music 😢 It’s your channel’s charm!
19:43 from what I was told those really thin things are actually PCB drill bits. I bought a box of them at a yard sale years ago and asked a tool group what they were.
Yes it is an old video. Oldie, but Goldie.
Steve, when are you going to do a live stream?
i do enjoy the longer versions more
I prefer the edited version with singing. The singing, bad as it is, is part of the charm of your work. Lose it at your peril!! 😂
go to a karaoke bar if you want terrible ttalk-singing!
Curious, why do you choose to grind the battery terminals instead of desoldering them and soaking them in vinegar like the screws and other bits?
Bicarb and water (made almost paste like) with a cotton bud can often be a good place to start with battery corrosion and leakage cleaning.
It would probably have been a good idea to remove the screen earlier than you did, Steve. Also, wash everything you soaked in vinegar with IPA also, no, not Indian Pale Ale !! I was wondering if an ultrasonic cleaner would help in removing some of that awful corrosive green crap? This is brilliant. Really explains your process so well.
I love both the long and short formats equally! really enjoy seeing the whole process, and also the ASMR. Maybe upload both versions!
I'm so jealous of your Wera-Kit 🤩
Hahaha. Now i understood the thumbnail😂😂😂
Stupid FF
You are a genius
Nice to see a full video. But personally when it comes to sorting out the corrosion on the battery terminals you would have been better off ordering replacement one and unsoldering the old ones and putting new ones in.

I especially like the darth Vader heavy breathing in this one 😂
It’s the Heavy Breathing edition, Nasal Restriction 3, no prisoners!
Tuviste mucha suerte de que volviera a funcionar!!! Felicidades… 😃🎮⚡️Saludos a todos…

Really handy that chemistry means that the corrosion is a nice blue colour for ease of removal 😂
Love your uploads and yes this longer version in my humble thinking is far better..........trust me Bro...........👻👻
Im not watching the full video. You still get my stupid like
Hi, i clean corrosion off battery terminals at work, when were out of cleaner we use , baking soda and water.
I have a AGB-001 with all of the power switch pads torn off.

use a piece of solder wick to make a pad usually works pretty well
I have a faulty one with a lot of corrosion. the buttons are faulty and the LED power light doesn't light up. Would be nice to see a list of what tools you use
Call me crazy, but perhaps you could put the edited videos on the main channel and the less edited ones here? I kinda like both in different ways.
Is it me or is this one kinda messy? Yeah it’s an old video.
26:52 the pad now looks like a reindeer or raging bull 😆
Oooooh like your screwdriver set 😮
Metalshavings after the last go on the batteryterminal may have shorted it out
Better to use a plastic bottle cap to soak the screws, uses a lot less vinegar.
*ADDENDUM*
You can electroplate some nickel back to the battery Terminals By sending a voltage Via some

Dammit, I am going to order this wera screwdriver set!
Where is your rap segment with voice over Steve???? It's your trademark!!!
Haha, oh wait....it's the full version. Doy!
Steve, I've asked this so many times before. Why put it completely together before testing it apart fully ?
You gotta love the WiHas. It's just fun to say.
I like the full videos.
Dismantling ASMR 👍
i like your dumb music. its your style of videos. don't change. and im so jealous of your wera screwdriver scroll lol
What make is your little grinder thingy please 😊
I would personally have not bothered with those battery terminals. I'd've just replaced 'em right from the start.
Well, I kind of liked the other videos. I missed the music, it felt... really weird. I couldn't understand why then BOOM! Where's the music during the disassembly? If it saves you time and effort I guess I could live with it. :)
@41:00 ...using the "Angry Bees" tool... :P
You see, this video is actually sped up. The real speed is when he says "solid." That's obviously his real voice. 28:40
So... I didn't watch this one as I saw the original shorter video. But 1 hour feels (and is?) long! I think I prefer the shorter ones. But buddy, that is your problem. Not ours.
I love longer videos, but maybe have long ones on here. and shorter edited ones on the main.
@@SovietCaptain03in the description Steve writes: “let me know what you think”.
Hey steve just for the record you cN buy replacement battery terminals and i know a guy who produces custom gbc pcb boards in any color.
Watching from Australia 👌👌👌
Vinegar, my dude! Vinegar! The blue battery schmoo is alkaline and'll just bubble away with a bit of vinegar.
