You have to use YOUR judgement and do your own research to determine if at home microneedling is for you. Some people MUST see a Dr/pro before they embark on needling. This is your skin, take precautions! General Guide (YOU should determine what is best for you!!) Forehead: .25-.5 Thin skin/.5-.75 thick skin Between eyebrows: .25-.5 thin skin/.5-1.0 thick skin Nose: .25-.5 Eye area: .25-.5 Cheek bone: .5 thin skin/ .5-1.0 thick skin lower cheek and chin: .5-1.0 Upper lip: .25 thin skin/ .25-.75 thick skin Facial scarring (I recommend a professional. They will likely do depths of 1-2mm and anything past 1.25 is not for at home in my opinion) Stretch marks are also better in a professional setting where they will do depths of 1.5-2mm Surgical and burn scars must see a pro also especially since there may be better tools to treat these conditions. Who shouldn't needle or should see a pro first regardless? If you have melasma be very careful! It is a tricky skin condition that can both be helped from needling and also flair from needling! Talking to a derm and getting on a pigment inhibitor would be helpful when needling with melasma. If you have a history of hay fever or asthma or food allergies, see a doctor first. If you have diabetes, thyroid conditions, active acne, pustule rosacea, UTIs, or immune diseases see a doctor. I am in no way telling you to needle without proper precautions and that includes talking to a doctor first. When in doubt, talk to a dr/pro. I loved this video, so helpful. Do you still have the products bundled together so we know what to use for each post microneedling phase? I'm having trouble finding it. Thanks so much for all you share. You are amazing!
@@lynneguist5988this was going to be my question. Is she using nano , 16 or 35 needles ?.. Im numb and preped to go. I'm just going to do 16 as a safe bet.. i used nano last time and it was so/so. I have thick skin tho
I have a scar on my chin that's under the skin .. I injured it in a car wreck .. my chin hit the steering wheel.. it ripped the fascia? Where the chin attaches to the skull .. it's now sorta a bump .. is it ok to use the pen on this ?
So I finally did it!! I got a Pen and tonight was my first session. I watched this video 3 times and made very detailed step by step notes. Spent much time disinfecting my area, got all my items and started down my list of steps. As I was going I was so prouder myself for handling the pain, why it wasn’t painful at all!! In fact, even following Penn’s recommendations for depth I was barely getting red! So after my face I did my neck, then my chest, then my hands. When all done and cleaning up I thought “Oh, I better throw out the used cartridge”. ........ I NEVER PUT ONE IN........🤣😂🤣. Oh my, maybe I should rethink this, hahaha!!!! I’ll try again tomorrow night...🤞
After watching your videos and doing research for months, I finally just did my first at-home microneedling session following your protocol. Thank you SO MUCH for your incredibly detailed information. There's no one I trust more on the internet!
I've been doing facial microneedling about 4 months now, once every 4 weeks, it works great, in my career I sweat a lot and I also had some mild acne scars, these treatments work wonders. I used to just use retinol and other high end serums but it didn't effect the look so much, my face was very smooth to the touch. It wasn't till I started microneedling. And I do it myself at home with the Dr. Pen! So you men out there, we can also have great smooth textured skin
@@jennymarcel7265 I didn't buy the high-end one but it still works the way it should. After I bought it I read the reviews and some said there's didn't work, that it just vibrated but not actually was going in and out but mine works just fine. Mine is red and white and labeled as Dr. Pen Ultima N2 Electric Microneedling Derma System. I had paid $70 plus tax on Amazon but it's now on sale for $50.
This is by far the most helpful video I've seen on micro-needling at home. It makes me much more confident to plunge ahead with this process! Many thanks! 🙂
I love this video, always come back to it for reference. I don’t microneedle my upper lip because I’m prone to cold sores. I wish she would do an update video.
WOW!! Thank you so much!! There's no way I can afford needling in a clinic. I'm so excited!! I can do this myself on my own. The information you give us so thorough I can trust it.
So thankful to have found you. So grateful that you are willing to share your craft with us. I have learned so much from watching your videos. Happy New Years and many blessings to you.
That was the BEST introduction to microneedling that I have seen. (I've watched quite a few.) Thank you so much for remembering all the details, amazing. I will keep this in a file and watch periodically to check myself. Perfect, just perfect. Thank you for posting this.
Hi Pam, I don't know if you'll see this as it's a year later, but how did you go??...I'm in Tasmania and have recently got a Dr Pen the X5 and am nervous about using it and I'd love to know how you went.....a year later😆 sending hugs💐🌹
Great video Penny. Even though I've been microneedling for a few months, I got a lot out of this. I love it. Our own Guru! Lol. I feel so fortunate I found you, and I'm sure others feel the same way. Have a great day💕
This is 'money' Penny! As a video producer let me say this "how to" is damn near perfect. Content and pacing= homerun. Thorough and efficient. You covered every step, answered all the inevitable questions and didn't blather on. Well done. My only question is where does a lay person buy numbing cream?
Maybe I’m crazy…but do you have to use numbing cream?? I had powder brows done and that really didnt hurt (even tho it was numbed) but i could still kinda feel it
The numbing cream will also create a delay in erythema. You are basically paralyzing the nerve endings in the skin so your body really doesn’t know what’s going on whereas if you didn’t use the numbing cream it would turn red super fast. After the treatment I’d like to use a cryo-wand or even one of my jade rollers that I put in the freezer for a few minutes to help close off the pores.
Awesome step by step instruction for beginners! However, you never stated what speed setting we should be using. I am using Dr. Pen M8, so I just left it on #1. Please clarify. Thanks so much!
Hi Penny :) I am about to do microneedling at home for first time and your videos are really really helpful. After watching every video of yours I feel ready for the treatment so thank you for that. I am a tattoo artist and I am dealing with cross contamination on a daily basis so wiping with alcohol your gloves every time before touching the pen is a lot of work (at least for me is unnecessary exercise). It's maybe not the best to touch your face with alcohol cleaned gloves too because the alcohol goes on your face :) I would like to advice you to get some clip cord covers for tattooing and cover your pen with it. You could even wrap it with grip wrap tape on top of the cover to prevent any slipperiness. That way it will be protected and all you do is remove the cover after :) I know I would definitely do it that way
I just bought the A7.... I talked with two plastic surgeons about a few things I’m seeing in the mirror and I’ve decided to investigate other options other than a mid facelift for my neck and marionette lines...I look fine as long as I stay smiling but once I’m not smiling it all falls. I’m hoping this and other items I’ve purchased will restore my skin and muscles from falling. I’m subscribing. Thank you.
I'm soooo new to microneedling. I've done a lot of research on PubMed about microneedling and "percutaneous collagen induction" and completely convinced about its safety and efficacy in skin rejuvenation, especially for skin types at risk for PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) such as my own. I LOVE that I can get some free online DIY training from a Master Aesthetician. I've already subscribed to your channel and will be reviewing all your microneedling related videos. Thanks!! Best wishes and continued success!
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to make these videos, and share your knowledge and experience. After first getting the procedure done in the Drs. office twice, a great deal of studying, which your videos have been a large part of, and speaking to my doctor about the pitfalls to watch out for, of doing so, I gained the confidence to start microneedling myself, with the M8. I've been very happy with both the results and the cost savings of doing it myself but there are two (possible) issues I'd really appreciate your feedback on: 1. Speed. Unlike the medical devices which us a piston-based engine that physically pulls the needles all the way out before plunging them back in, consumer devices use a spring action for the retraction stroke. Not willing to stake my face on a tiny little spring (or have it made into steak, by one) this has kept me from ever setting the speed higher than 3, and of course always using a new cartridge with a new spring, in an effort to avoid tearing my skin from starting a down stroke before the needles have finished their prior up stroke. Can you address this a little, as it relates to the speed setting, with your knowledge and experience? 2. Gurgling. After just a few seconds of use, the cartridge starts to gurgle profusely as it stamps through the hyaluronic acid serum I apply, and reapply as necessary, to maintain slip. The amount and frequency of application is very consistent with your own in this video. I don't notice this happening when I've had it done in the doctor's office, or in your videos. Other than making the cartridge itself look like a prop from a horror movie as any small amount of pinpoint blood seems to collect in between the pins with the serum, this doesn't seem to be causing an issue with effectiveness or performance from what I can see. I'm making my own hyaluronic acid serum with hyaluronic acid greater than 1 million daltons molecular weight and at a potency of 1.5%. At this potency it's thick enough that it doesn't immediately just drip right off my face yet isn't as thick as what I would normally make for a normal application. Have you heard of this happening? Do you see any possible problems with it? Should I make the serum thinner? Thanks again, for all your efforts.
Did my first session today with M5 pen-16 needles, HA you recomended(it's running out quickly). Did 1.5mm on deep indentation scaring. It hurts with 1.5mm depth even with numbing cream but I was able to finish it. Keep posting your great videos. One day hope to get treatments done by you when I'm in portland
Yay, thanks for the video. It made me brave enough to try this on my own. I just did my first session face and neck with the M8. I have the numbing cream but chose not to use it my first time around as I'm more wary of the litocain than I am of the feeling of the needling. It wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't terrible either. A few places on the face were hotter than others, but in general, not a problem. I'm excited to see how this helps the skin on my neck as that is my biggest issue at 49. I appreciate you making this so accessible, as all good intentions aside, making time to go to a clinic for it, just doesn't happen.
❤👍😍 Love this video Penny! For several years I have used a dermaroller. Because of this and other videos you have done I invested in a dermapen. Tonight I *finally* jumped in to try it. Thanks for all your tips and tricks! I definitely numbed my face. The spiciest for me is my upper lip (the most!) and my forehead. The numbing cream worked perfectly! I used Glad Press'n Seal cut in strips to cover everything. Instead of rubbing alcohol I used hydrogen peroxide (which I make). I ❤love ❤love ❤love the Cos De Baha (thank you Penny!!!). To counteract discomfort (after the numbing cream wears off) I take arnica (5 tiny homeopathic pellets). Not sure if I should skip this step or not but with a clean spatula I apply stem cells to the treated areas. After it's all done I just leave everything as is until the next say. After my face I also did my neck (pen) and hands (dermaroller) and applied the stem cells as a last step. Then, I sat under my Red Light Therapy tent (DIY made with 3 square panels) for 20 minutes. Thank you so much Penny! I'm excited to get into a habit of doing this every 4-6 weeks. ❤👍😍
Penny, thank you for sharing the extra information about numbing. It is so important that people know it can be unsafe if too much is used and then is in the bloodstream from the area or amount covered or from using an occlusive on a large area. Thank you. I don't numb at all because of that and also because I have strong reactions to numbing - heart racing, shakiness and I don't like it. But, the forehead is usually the area that hurts the most for me. I did my neck with 0.5 recently and it didn't hurt at all surprisingly. Thank you so much for your helpful videos!
I have not done a session yet; I'm waiting on my pen, but I bought the Blue-Emu Lidocaine pain relief cream odor free + Emu oil. Is this going to be ok? I am so excited yet a little nervous but can't wait to get my pen and get my first session over and see some results. Great video Penny. Thank you so much for being serious and nothing but good information!
Awesome video, Penn, as always. You are indeed the best skincare expert I've run across on UA-cam. And this video is the best, most informative video on microneedling ever. Easy to understand, yet in-depth and informative. Thank you for not only explaining, but also doing a thorough demonstration. Outstanding! Love you, doll. - xx, Carla
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE what does mean by different number of needles like 16 36 etc? How many needles we should use at home for face and dark circles? Which pen we should select ? I dont understand how i choose the exact number of pins and pen!!😒😒😒 reply must. Waiting for your help
I purchased the cos de baha, numbing cream, and kiwi seed oil. Love all 3 and all were affordable. Thank you for all you share! Decolletage area on deck!
I appreciate you stressing the importance of creating a sterile environment for microneedling. This is no joke for sure and it’s not worth the risk of failing to prepare the skin adequately. Thanks for mentioning that you microneedle the more sensitive areas first as well.
I watched another video of hers, where she's needling at home and says because she's doing it at home, she doesn't need the gloves. She used alcohol on her face, and she numbed it up, no gloves though. I also don't recall that she kept using alcohol on her hands. Confusing...
When I did my medical needling protocol I actually do talk about having alcohol on hand to avoid cross contamination. I have done videos on cosmetic needling and nano “needling” and I don’t use alcohol during those procedures. I’m extremely careful with sanitation. But I’ve worn gloves and not worn gloves-either way I just make sure to not touch things then the face if at all possible and to dip in alcohol if I do. Hope that clears it up.
But let me know if you’re still confused. Clean hands on my own face is no different than gloved hands….still have to prevent cross contamination. It’s just preference. In office? Always wear gloves.
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE Penny, I'm sorry, I meant no disrespect. I'm a new subscriber and trying to absorb all your information. I joke all the time that if you look in my ear, you'll see a rusty 'No Vacancy" sign hanging in my brain....lol...it's too darned full of all the worthless stuff I remember....ha. I actually did watch your nano needling yesterday, good timing since I purchased some right before that! I needled last night for the first time, using the Dr Pen a6 Ultima. I honestly was scared to death, trying to remember everything. I used alcohol, no gloves. No numbing. I used to use a dermaroller, but a doctor told me I was tearing my skin, bad girl, I was! So I tossed it. This was about 3 years ago, never heard of you, wish I had. The instructions with it were a lot different than what you say....wish I'd known!Anyway, again, don't be alarmed at my confusion. I'm usually in a constant state of confusion about something. 🥴 I'm not 30 anymore, or 40, or 50.....💜

I’m a new medi aesthetician here!! I just got my microneedling certificate today! I’ve been binging on your microneedling series and I have to say I AM SO GLAD I FOUND YOU!!!! 😫😫😫 to be honest I kind of felt that I was left with unanswered questions or unheard information. My workshop was for one day and the instructor was really rushing through everything I felt really lost at times (since I personally process things slowly). I’m really learning a lot more from you then I did at school. I really do appreciate you mentioning your little hacks to keep things sanitary and easy, will definitely take notes 📝. Can you please do a demonstration on a model? (Your method**) that would be helpful!. Also since I live in Canada I heard that they will be banning Dermapens that have no shielded cartridges (due to concerns with tearing skin when needles are bended or because it’s exposed and it’s risks to cross contamination). I was personally trained with the InnoPen. Could you also do a review on it too? In comparative with Dr. Pen? that would be great!!! 👍🏼 otherwise love your videos, you’re a lovely aesthetician 💛 keep it up!
Doing my first at home session this morning! wish me luck Your videos are Extremely helpful & I feel confident ( a little nervous) but mostly excited to incorporate this in to my life style!
@@RayhanaAbdul till now i did 4 sessions now my skin looks is more shiny and acne scars starts vanishing.....untill 4rth sessions i didn't noticed any difference...so you have to be patience and go slowly & steady but definitely worthy.
I have been wanting to try this for years, but I have been too afraid, even though I felt it was worthwhile. Watching you has made this so accessible and my confidence has grown, you are so informative and having watched your videos, I now feel ready to try. I can honestly say, I wouldn't have had the nerve to try, if it hadn't been for your really informative channel. Many, many thanks x
I want to thank you for posting this video. I just started microneedling. I started first doing it with a nano cartridge to get the feel of my tool. I then went up to 12 pins today. I used a Dr. Pen Ultimate A6. It wasn’t bad at all. I set my pen at .5 and a high speed. I did use a numbing cream. The worst part was around my lips and just above my brows. The worst though was just a stinging sensation. I am anxious to see how it does after a few months. Thank you again for sharing.
I just did my first micro needling with nu new Dr. Pen A7. I did .5 all over and .25 under my eyes. I did not use numbing and for me it was totally tolerable.
RJ You can use any hyalauronic acid because of its gel consistency. The one I use I got on Amazon in Canada www.amazon.ca/Silkn-Paraben-Free-Slider-Gel/dp/B07C8XX5H4/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=hyaluronic+acid+slider&qid=1588023674&sr=8-5
I love your channel! I think it’s better than Natural Kaos, who first turned me on to all this but I’m so happy I found your channel! I feel like in her videos she does things incorrectly or harshly and I’m not about that. I’m from Oregon too! I bought the A7 a couple days ago too and I’m so excited!
Have you ever done this without numbing at all? :)) It can be quite the experience! I don't numb. So, I start out at 0.5 and do the whole face. Thank you for the tip on being sure to do the parameter - I will keep this in mind and pay extra attention to that. Then, I go back and will do certain key areas a bit deeper or just a bit more - lines around eyes, forehead and around the mouth. I try to do the 0.5 to adjust to the pain before going deeper. I noticed sometimes the pain isn't that bad and other times it really really hurts.
I was whimpering while microneedling my neck at 1.0. I was basically holding back a scream it was so painful. I have the Derminator, though which I have heard needles with more force (heard that from youtuber who has both Dr Pen and Derminator).
Thank you very much for all your videos , Penn ! Appreciate that so much . I just got my Dr. Pen and tried it for the first time. I used it on score 1 , wasn’t sure which one to choose as a beginner. 😂 Wow girls my face is red after using it! 😂😂😂 Thank you very much for all the comments and experience you sharing, girls ! ❤
Does microneedling help with large pores around the nose and cheeks? My pores always clog and I keep my skin clean and use hyraulonic acid before I add moisturizer. Thank you for any advice you can g to me. Mary H 🌹
Your channel is fantastic, thank you for making all of this info and your expertise available to us! Was wondering about the brush you were using to apply the HA while needling: how would we sanitize and store that properly? Thanks again!
Watching a pro do it just gives me confidence. It's really selfless of you giving out all these great tips for free, thanks. The Cos de Baha HMW Hyaluronic Acid is not available on Amazon Canada which is sad. Any tip where else to get it?
I believe that you can order from iHerb www.iherb.com/pr/cos-de-baha-hs-hyaluronic-acid-serum-2-fl-oz-60-ml/104140?gclid=CjwKCAjwo4mIBhBsEiwAKgzXOBKPgfzN9znyQsKAxDod7bVq1sN5Ac0donmxMFLM2brKKoIyCHhj2xoCVpQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
I microneedle at home. I leave my HA on afterwards-spray my face with filtered water- and relax while it draws the water into my skin. I was wondering-what brand of Pen do you advise/use? Preferably one I can buy from the UK. I have been using rollers- and hand stamping with square microneedle stamps. I feel your method would be more effective. Thank you for your amazing videos! I feel better just watching them 😊
Loving the needling series! Wondering how to use LED therapy in conjunction with needling. Thank for your willingness to share your knowledge. Really enjoy your channel and have learned so much about skin care ~♡~
I just got my pen and don’t plan to drag. I’m going to use a stamp like technique as they have done at the spa I once went to. I’m afraid I’m going to scratch and cause even more scarring than I already have with acne scars.
❤️❤️❤️Best needling video ever. Penny, wow! You are the best teacher. And, btw, your skin is looking gorgeous! I have one question. I loved what you said about the perimeter of the face. When I’m going to be washing my hair, I like to massage into my hairline to help get that more taut look. Can you needle into the hairline? I get that there are some nuances that would have to happen if you needed to numb and sterilize that area. Thanks ❤️ Also, in your Friday questions, could you address how you would incorporate needling along with micro current devices like the Ziip and NuFace; as well as light therapy masks and devices. I’d love to know what to do together and what not to do and for how long - days, hours, etc. Thanks!🥰
I subscribed to your channel immediately when I checked out your favorite list on amz. You're exactly person I been looking for...someone not Asian, but esthetician and love korean skincare. American/European skincare or professional skincare so expensive but I don't think they actually worthy.
Love your videos Penny.... you have helped me so much in understanding the process of microneedling. You are truly a blessing honey. Thank you so much for sharing!
So well done and informative! Two questions...1-How many needles do you use and 2- isn't it good to use nourishing serums while the channels are still open immediately afterwards? Thanks so much.
Hi, I've been watching your videos and thanks to you I finally got the courage to do microneedling. I just did my first one, I used Dr. Pen A6 using the 12 needles with 0.5 all over my face and 0.25 under my eyes, however my face didn't get redness like yours afterward. I wonder if I did it incorrectly. Pls advice, thanks so much.
You need to go deeper. I had my face done at the doctors. They used 2.5. I now do it at home. I do 1 forehead, 1.5 temples, 2.0 for cheeks and chin. I bleed a lot, but get great results. If you don’t see bright redness, then it wasn’t Deep enough. Good luck.
@@whisperingpines8013 you should probably save 2.5 for the medispa. I have used 1.5 with no ill effects but you really do have to be vigilant with sanitation and after care (clean sheets, towels, don't touch your face, keep hair away, gently wash after 24 hours, no steam or sweating for a few days, no makeup for 48 hours and after that only mineral makeup, barrier sunscreen, paracetemol, no exfoliation 7 days before or 14 days after etc.)
You’re so lucky to be able to purchase this. Health Canada banned the sale of these for us so I have to at some point make my way to the US and pick up a kit. It’s a huge pain.
I’m so glad I watched this video. I’ve been lifting the micro needle up and down into place instead of dragging it across my skin. I’m gonna try this again!
Absolutely love this video thank you so much for the information! I had a TCA peel done last week and was wondering how long I would need to wait to needle? I've stopped peeling and have 0 irritation
Mam the precautions ur taking at home is incredible, the skin laser specialist i went to touched everything plus the phone that rang twice and went ahead touched my face after, i was frozen
I am so happy I found your channel. You explanations are very thorough. At age 47 I feel there is hope for me with my fine lines, wrinkles and large pores. On the other hand, My son is 15 and he finished his 6 month treatment of Accutane 6 months ago. He has a lot of scaring and holes from where the cysts where. I have had micro-needling done by a dermatologist and is was very expensive. The dermatologists recommended to do this for my son to help with scaring. But he is afraid to do it. I figured I would get this system for myself and try it on him.
So I did it tonight without a numbing cream. I have a high tolerance to pain so maybe my experience won't count but honestly I thought the pain would be worst. It was more of a discomfort. I felt pain around my lips and nose but it was it. Thank you Penny❤️
Im ready! Received my pen and am now brave enough after watching ALL of your CIT videos. ONE QUESTION though, that I've never seen you cover: What Speed should I use? I hope you see this Penn. LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel!
Hello. I very recently came across your channel and am very grateful for all the information you provided regarding the Dr. Pen varieties. I do have a request... could you make a video for us guys who are interested in using a dermapen for hair restoration? How to use the pen on the scalp (speed, depth, up & down vs drag the pen on the skin), what kind of aftercare should be done (any products to use, how long after the derm session, etc), all of course to maximize results and not do any negative harm in the process, and just touch on how long of usage until results could be expected. There are quite a few UA-camr's (Hairliciously is a big one) who have videos about dermarolling/dermapens for hair loss, but they are just your average joe's who tried it aimlessly at home. Your knowledge and experience would bring a lot of clarity to this. Thanks!
Just did my first microneedling session by myself! I’ve been going to a spa and getting them done paying $100 a pop! Glad to be at the point I’m comfortable doing it myself. Thank you for your guidance!
Your great videos have opened up a whole new world about skincare for me. So happy. I saw your calendar for micro needling on Friday Q & A. Confused about the difference between medical, cosmetic & nano micro needling. Medical is 4-6 weeks apart, but cosmetic is every week. What's the difference? Is the pen A6/7 medical? a face roller cosmetic? And nano is...? Thanks
Fantastic, super helpful & thorough video! Possibly the *best one I've seen & there are several on here. U covered every single thing I needed to know. Thank u!!
I've had Intensif RF and I have done several microneedling sessions to help with scars and syringoma on my ocular bone. They definitely have made a huge difference in the appearance of my syringoma. I've very excited to try this protocol. I had no idea you could do this treatment at home. Thank you!

Well I have purchased three machines watching your videos and I was able to use your discount code, so thank you. This was the best video ever. Also this machine looks amazing. Getting this also. Thank you
Great video, as usual! Quick question - I also do chemical peels, usually lactic acid, but in the fall I switch to TCA. How long should I wait after micro needling to do a chemical peel? Thanks!
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE hi just watch your video thank you for the info you prov ided for us beginners . Can you please where can we buy that product my email elsafernandez03 @gmail.com tnx muchly stay safe
I hope you can answer me, since this video is 3 years old?. I just saw your video and immediately bought the pen, the brush and the hyluronuc acid, why? Love your video and. I'm desperately looking for a solution for my chin and lower lip area . I have wrinkles that get worse when I talk😱. I paid $2,400😱 to a Dr to get Ultherapy and didn't work 😢😢.same wrinkles, a huge hole in my pocket 😢.So I'll be doing this, you sound very professional and love the fact you refer people to professionals if you deemed appropriate. Please help me by answering this question. Is microneedling good for this area? My chin? Also want to do it only in my frown and the area you started my forehead thank you!
It was so good to rewatch this for a refresher. I have been really bad with my MMN practice, and it's been probably nearly 2 months since I last did it. I don't use numbing cream (although I have some), I just buck it up--and it really isn't bad at all. But the sneezing response, oy vey!
Your videos are getting me through this stay home order! I had medical microneedling for the first time one month ago. I had a histamine type reaction to either the procedure or the products used (swelling and severe redness for over a week, even tho taking benedryl). That said, I'm setting a lot of skin tightening and firmer skin now! I'm glad I found your videos to try this at home, using just HA and not going as deep as the esthetician did (she did 1mm on almost my entire face). Loving the gran active retinoid from the Ordinary, as I just get too flakey from tretinoin. Thank you!
That is awesome. Is your routine close to this one or do you do something different? I have been too nervous to go above .3 cosmetic needling at home. I just use cos de baha HA and a copper peptide serum.
@@Joannabanana1989 I just use that HA. Dr Pen 🖊️ comes with guidelines for depth, regarding if you have thicker or thinner skin. The depths I do: 0.25 around my eyes, down my nose, and directly on my lips. 0.5 on my forehead, around my lip lines and upper cheeks. 0.75 lower cheeks, chin, and all the way down across my chest. I don’t wash off the serum after. Rather, I spritz my face with like an Evian water spray, then add oil (prickly pear or other pure organic oil). I needle at night and then GENTLY wash my face in the AM. Don’t use and retinol or acids for a few day following
I was just wondering if you have stated anywhere here how many needle tip did you use? I’ve looked and I just haven’t seen it. I’m sorry if you have it here somewhere. Or using 12 pin 16 pen 36 pin? You are one amazing instructor. Thank you thank you
Hi there 😊 I like the 12 pin typically (for the A7 and A6) for medical needling and I’ll use 36 pin if I have them for cosmetic needling (shallow). I like the 16 pin too- it has a 34 gauge (I’m pretty sure…it’s a fine gauge anyway). If I had to choose I’d always pick 12 and 16. 36 is really just shallow needling for me ♥️ I also almost always use the top 2 speeds by the way. Hope this helps 🥰
@@PENNSMITHSKINCARE - thank you so much for your quick prompt response. I bought some 36 pens and could not believe that I could tolerate it so well. But now I know why because of your reply that they are shallow. I’m trying to avoid chemicals on my face as much as possible so I’d rather not use numbing cream. But maybe I’ll go a little bit lower in the pin numbers. But boy that 36 inch I don’t even hardly feel it just a little bit, but I still get a nice pink color. Thanks again Penny
Hey there. How do you clean your fan brush before using it? And also- do you pour some of the serum in a bowl for easy access while needling? thank you
I love that you use a brush to put the serum on! That's something I haven't seen before and would like to try. Is there a specific way that you sterilize the brush beforehand? I may have missed a few seconds of the video here and there so if you already went over that, I do apologize. AWESOME video for beginners like myself. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this video!

Here is MY microneedling facial protocol!
You have to use YOUR judgement and do your own research to determine if at home microneedling is for you. Some people MUST see a Dr/pro before they embark on needling. This is your skin, take precautions!
General Guide (YOU should determine what is best for you!!)
Forehead: .25-.5 Thin skin/.5-.75 thick skin
Between eyebrows: .25-.5 thin skin/.5-1.0 thick skin
Nose: .25-.5
Eye area: .25-.5
Cheek bone: .5 thin skin/ .5-1.0 thick skin
lower cheek and chin: .5-1.0
Upper lip: .25 thin skin/ .25-.75 thick skin
Facial scarring (I recommend a professional. They will likely do depths of 1-2mm and anything past 1.25 is not for at home in my opinion)
Stretch marks are also better in a professional setting where they will do depths of 1.5-2mm
Surgical and burn scars must see a pro also especially since there may be better tools to treat these conditions.

Do you have an update on products to use? Specifically, are there are forms of HA that are recommended except for Cos De Baha?
You don’t mention in your video what size of pen you’re using or needles I should say is it 16 or 36?
Oh my goodness!
Gwen Andreotti what!! 😆😂
😂😂😂That is exactly what I could do too. I hope the next session WITH needles isn’t too painful!
😂😂😂
That is hysterical!!!!! I would do something like that. You are not alone!
After watching your videos and doing research for months, I finally just did my first at-home microneedling session following your protocol. Thank you SO MUCH for your incredibly detailed information. There's no one I trust more on the internet!
Wow! Thank you! That means so much to me!
I’m so excited for you 😃🥰💜
Same !!! I trust her advice 💯
Which Dr. Pen did you use?
@@jennymarcel7265 I didn't buy the high-end one but it still works the way it should. After I bought it I read the reviews and some said there's didn't work, that it just vibrated but not actually was going in and out but mine works just fine. Mine is red and white and labeled as Dr. Pen Ultima N2 Electric Microneedling Derma System. I had paid $70 plus tax on Amazon but it's now on sale for $50.
This is the comment I've been searching for - how often do people microneedle? I will try once a month, as well. Thank you
This is by far the most helpful video I've seen on micro-needling at home.
Happy New Year Annette! Thank you so much for that kind comment!

This was recommended by my dermatologist but no advice given. So you are a much needed resource. So professional. Thank you ❣️
You are so welcome!
This is 'money' Penny! As a video producer let me say this "how to" is damn near perfect.
Content and pacing= homerun. Thorough and efficient. You covered every step, answered all the inevitable questions and didn't blather on. Well done. My only question is where does a lay person buy numbing cream?
Pharmacies all have it.
@@woman4womenkids547 Thanks! Got some and plan on going for it tonight.
@@outtosee3789 enjoy! She is an excellent guide.
Amazon! The one she used is on Amazon.
I did it! I was so scared, but it was so easy. Did not hurt. Thank you so much!!
This is the best microneedling demonstration video on YT, so glad I found this.
Awesome step by step instruction for beginners! However, you never stated what speed setting we should be using. I am using Dr. Pen M8, so I just left it on #1. Please clarify. Thanks so much!
Love this lady. She's always a font of knowledge and so very pleasant. Brava, darling !
😊 Thank you so much!!
Would love love love an updated needling video!!!
I did mine without numbing - it truly isn't that bad. I found the forehead and nose was a little sensitive
I've been very happy with both the results and the cost savings of doing it myself but there are two (possible) issues I'd really appreciate your feedback on:
Btw thank you for this!! I have been doing my Microneedling at home for the past 3 months!!! Love you girl

Thank you for empowering us with the knowledge to be safe when microneedling at home.

Kelly, good to know as I’m highly allergic to lidocaine.
sandi rodriguez You’ll be fine ... didn’t hurt much at all
nice. did you use any other substance over the skin for the pen to glide?
bean Yes, a hyalauronic glide
Thank you for your kind words! I’m excited for you also!
Keep in touch 💜
Love our state, don’t you? So beautiful here 🥰
Have you ever done this without numbing at all? :)) It can be quite the experience! I don't numb. So, I start out at 0.5 and do the whole face. Thank you for the tip on being sure to do the parameter - I will keep this in mind and pay extra attention to that. Then, I go back and will do certain key areas a bit deeper or just a bit more - lines around eyes, forehead and around the mouth. I try to do the 0.5 to adjust to the pain before going deeper. I noticed sometimes the pain isn't that bad and other times it really really hurts.
I heard that ovulating cycles has to do a lot with pain tolerance. Somewhere a week post menstruation women have the highest threshold.
Wow girls my face is red after using it! 😂😂😂
Thank you very much for all the comments and experience you sharing, girls ! ❤
Does microneedling help with large pores around the nose and cheeks? My pores always clog and I keep my skin clean and use hyraulonic acid before I add moisturizer. Thank you for any advice you can g to me. Mary H 🌹
it did for me
Your Videos are Gold! By far the best I’ve seen on micro needling and skincare
Your channel is fantastic, thank you for making all of this info and your expertise available to us! Was wondering about the brush you were using to apply the HA while needling: how would we sanitize and store that properly? Thanks again!
You're like, the coolest 💁♀️. So real and relatable. I really liked your succint demo. Thanks!
Thank you! How nice of you!
Great question, I would also like to know.
Can you use essential oil while Micro needling or after ?
I just got my pen and don’t plan to drag. I’m going to use a stamp like technique as they have done at the spa I once went to. I’m afraid I’m going to scratch and cause even more scarring than I already have with acne scars.
Just watched this video while doing my first at home session. It went great and im so thankful for this video!!!
Thank you so much for your videos on microneedling. I have now moved from a derma roller to a derma pen thanks to the knowledge you have shown
❤️❤️❤️Best needling video ever. Thanks!🥰
Ur an angel for sharing ur knowledge with us for free!!! ❤️
I subscribed to your channel immediately when I checked out your favorite list on amz. You're exactly person I been looking for...someone not Asian, but esthetician and love korean skincare. American/European skincare or professional skincare so expensive but I don't think they actually worthy.
Thank you. I just got my Dr pen and I was lost. You saved me 🙌. Ty
Good luck.
Tupak196 can u do 2.5 at home?
@@whisperingpines8013 you should probably save 2.5 for the medispa. I have used 1.5 with no ill effects but you really do have to be vigilant with sanitation and after care (clean sheets, towels, don't touch your face, keep hair away, gently wash after 24 hours, no steam or sweating for a few days, no makeup for 48 hours and after that only mineral makeup, barrier sunscreen, paracetemol, no exfoliation 7 days before or 14 days after etc.)
@@tupak169 did you apply hyaluronic acid during microneedling ?
You’re so lucky to be able to purchase this. Health Canada banned the sale of these for us so I have to at some point make my way to the US and pick up a kit. It’s a huge pain.
Omg you look like the woman from terminator!!! The original Sarah? She was very pretty
Mam the precautions ur taking at home is incredible, the skin laser specialist i went to touched everything plus the phone that rang twice and went ahead touched my face after, i was frozen
thanks for the information, finally a video without nonsesical talking.
So glad I saw your answer because I bought the numbing cream but idk about using it . And I’m pretty good with pain lol
Thanks!
This video was incredible. So informative and I feel much more confident about using my new pen for the first time.
Just did my first microneedling session by myself! I’ve been going to a spa and getting them done paying $100 a pop! Glad to be at the point I’m comfortable doing it myself. Thank you for your guidance!
$100? I’ve paid $400 for Microneedling and PRP 😭 never again
I was going to say $100 is cheap!
I just love your channel! You’re so informative and I learn do much. Thank you! Kat
Thank you Kat for being here!
Thanks
You can continue to use the HA until the next day. I've heard the channels close after 2 hours...but I've heard Penny say she waits much longer
Thank you!
Amazing... I went to school to become and esthetician but I didn’t take the state boards. 20 years later and now I just should of taken the exam. But I absolutely love skin care have been taken care of my skin since 13 years old. Every year around my bday I start looking for the new best thing.
Thanks!
Nice question
Waiting for the reply
@Robin Stewart I’m told to wait at least 4-5 weeks after a chemical peel to begin micro needling by my aesthetician
Hi Penn, I am very excited, because of you and your excellent channel, I ordered a dr pen a7 pro from dr pen which will arrive monday, I'm in UK. Xx
Thank you for this straight forward full informative video
You are my beauty queen
Love LOVE love

I don’t use it either. Don’t need it
It's been like... 6 years for me
Thanks again Penn for sharing your knowledge. You are my favorite you tuber
What a super nice thing to say!!! Thank you! 😁🥰
Thank you!
Did you try this at home without a histamine reaction?
@@Joannabanana1989 yes!🙌 I’ve been doing it ever 6-8 weeks since! It looks so good and day or two after!
Thank you thank you
Hi there 😊
I like the 12 pin typically (for the A7 and A6) for medical needling and I’ll use 36 pin if I have them for cosmetic needling (shallow).
I like the 16 pin too- it has a 34 gauge (I’m pretty sure…it’s a fine gauge anyway).
If I had to choose I’d always pick 12 and 16.
36 is really just shallow needling for me ♥️
I also almost always use the top 2 speeds by the way.
And also- do you pour some of the serum in a bowl for easy access while needling? thank you
this is the same question I have. Did you ever find out how? TIA
@@SuperHorseGirl13 I put the serum in a little bowl and disinfected the brush with alcohol prior to use
@@debbourke4482 thank you!
What is the speed setting on the pen? Is LED light good to do immediately after needling?
I've done microneedling at a med spa a couple of times now and they always bring in the LED light machine as soon as they finish
YES 👍🏼 deeper penetration
Great video! Wow! Super helpful!!! Thank you for listing out everything!!!
Can I working out the day after microneedling ? Thank you !!!
