    Thank you for the information! what are your thoughts on Fructooligosaccharide that is an ingredient in all their foods? My vet suggested this brand for my cats.

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  3 роки тому +19

      Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are plant derived and in this food are used primarily as a source of fiber and prebiotic, however it is commonly used as a natural, low-calorie sweetener in human foods so it is plausible that its secondary role is to encourage eating. Overall, I would much rather see these FOS in a formula than "Powdered Cellulose" (commonly sawdust) used as filler/fiber in many pet foods.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I feel so much better about given them this brand because there's so much brands and infos that contredict the other, that sometimes it's hard to be 100% sure about what you choose to feed them. THANK YOU!!! :)

    I switched both of my dogs to Farmina 2 months ago. I am the daughter of a Veterinarian trained in the 1980’s and I’ve always fed Science Diet because he was fed the lie (which he passed in to his family and clients) that all dogs needed was kibble. However after watching the documentary “Pet FooLeD” I was horrified.
    Since changing to Farmina , my 5yo Aussie is MUCH calmer and he sleeps better at night. He was so obsessed with food and always seemed anxious and starved, and was always stealing our food off the counter, on Science Diet . On Farmina, he isn’t even in the kitchen much. He seems satisfied! He also doesn’t lick his paws anymore! Even more amazing is the impact Farmina has made on my 14 yo Terrier/Chihuahua mix: his cataracts have visibly diminished and he seems to have better vision again! He’s more energetic. His skin has more of a robust elastic feel. His coat is lustrous and soft again. He even SMELLS better. I’m just blown away. Thank goodness for thoughtful food manufacturers making a healthy product for our best friends! It’s pricey but much less than wet fresh food. So worth it!

    A neighbor got me started on Farmina Pet Food for my mini rat terrier. Ingredients are lamb, pumpkin, blue berries. Since then, he has been doing well on this food. Usually I use Farmina, Chicken, pumpkin, and pomegrante. This time I switched to the blue berries. It's expensive, but my dog not ill from eating this. I put rice, and or fish in with his food.

    Thanks for such an informative video. My dog, who has always had sensitive-tummy issues, has just started on this kibble, so I hope it does him great. I really hope that Farmina bringing a plant to the US does not come with quality issues, as you mentioned in the video; so hopefully they're able to continue their current standards.

    Sadly, for latinamerica, specially south america, Farmina produces their food in Brazil. Pet food regulations in latinamerica are not as strict as in Europe. The formulas that are sold here, are made with animal meals (chicken, lamb and fish). Also, I recently talked with the importer of Farmina in Colombia (where I live), and they told me that the lamb, pumpkin & blueberrie formula was being discontinued due to an issue of legislation in Brazil, because originally this food included raw lamb, and apparently the regulation does not allow that. Is really sad, is so hard to find a good kibble for my dog.

    So they’re actually manufactured not just in Naples but in Serbia and San Paola, Brazil. Does that change your opinions at all? I fed this for one month to my dog & spoke to company at length. After watching the documentary “Dog Fooled” (have you seen it?) and learning of the complete lack of governance, how the high temperature used to make the food shelf stable produces two carcinogens as well as what AAFCO allows to go to into dog food (which is terrifying), I’m stretching every penny to feed my dog raw. I’ll never feed dry food again, even if it means I go without. My faith in the dog food industry is gone.

      Most dogs are allergic to chicken. The chicken used in dog food is legs, skin, feathers, heads etc. Farmina uses real meat. My dogs are extremely allergic and sensitive, so I’ve tried a lot of pet foods and the one that seems to work great for us is Farmina Wild boar for mini dogs.

I have 2 questions. 1) is there anything I can add to the food that would make the poop more solid and less smelly and; 2) if I add canned wet cat food to their diet, should I mix it with the dry food daily or alternate dry and wet cat food daily. Do you have a update to your thoughts about farmina since this video? We just had to switch our Frenchie off taste of the wild after over three years because he is wanting something new. At Hollywood feed our lady recommended farmina N&D grain free lamb and blueberry as you talked in the video. They said she haven’t moved to the states yet and they recommended this over any kibble they had. I was hoping not because it’s one of the most expensive kibbles also, but because of the quality. We have him on grain free because we believe he has a grain allergy. Is it worth the money? ($100 a big bag)

  • @sarahmorroney4570
    @sarahmorroney4570 3 роки тому

    A lot of farminas talking points from their reps are about their quality and their regulations regarding pet food and how it’s made. I hope that producing food in the US doesn’t effect that.
    I’ve also learned that farmina makes their food to order. They don’t mass produce and ship their foods to sit in warehouses until it’s needed, they make it on an as needed basis so it’s as fresh as possible when it gets to you.

    I always said Farmina had the best dry foods but I’ve started to notice a lot more complaints over quality issues with some of their foods lately! Most worryingly, the company doesn’t seem interested in logging or investigating these issues when the customers speak to their reps. That is not an acceptable response to me for such a potentially serious issue, and I’m trying to figure out what to feed now :/ I hope Farmina gets their act together because their food was really good for my dog.

    I know you said to disregard anything after salt “for the most part” because it’s about 2%, but this can be dangerous for older dogs and dogs with kidney problems when it comes to certain minerals. I know vets are controversial in terms of recommending the same “top” 3 brands. But they have a point when it comes to mineral needs for different life stages. Please include these vital minerals in food reviews for different life stages.

    Since say the farmina cat kibble has 17% carbs, would it be fine to feed dogs?.. Assuming its rehydrated before feeding and topped off with some raw food?
    Or is it that cat kibble can only be fed to cats and dog kibble to dogs?

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  2 роки тому +2

      Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements so dogs should be fed diets complete and balanced for dogs, and cats should be fed diets complete and balanced for cats. Adding additional meat like canned, cooked, or raw helps to lower the overall carbohydrate count though!

    • @TheTattooedDogTrainer
      @TheTattooedDogTrainer  3 роки тому +3

      I recommend finding a line of their food/base formula that works best for your dog (ancient grain, pumpkin, quinoa, etc) and alternating flavors within that line. Most high-quality foods are made to easily switch between flavors in the same line without needing to transition. This also keeps your pup from getting bored and/or developing sensitivities!

    Is Farmina Quinoa a healthy brand my dog has went through Wellness, Purina Pro Plan, Nutro Ultra, Farmina, all chicken, have to coax her to eat any of it except with TruDog toppers or full meal yet no veges or other healthy ingredients. Would love a review on TruDog I’m concerned merging with Halo. I love convenience and nutritional value of freeze dried raw food but very expensive. Trying lamb Farmina after her vomiting and having Diarrhea from 1/7 of 1/3 of a pound of Pup Above since even Farmina ND lamb she won’t eat without coaxing. I’m at a total loss.

    Thank you for this video! My dog is diabetic with a history of pancreatitis so I have to use food that has 10% or less of fat. The only one I found from Farmina is the Weight Management Lamb, Quinoa, Broccoli & Asparagus (130 grams of dry) and I do cooked 99% Lean ground Turkey (125 grams) per meal. Do you have any other recommendation? Love your video, keep them coming! 🙂

      My dog has chronic pancreatitis as well, and I learned that kibble can cause it. I had him on the Rayne canned kangaroo maintenance for awhile and he loved it..but it's really expensive. I eventually tried raw thinking he wouldn't like it, but he sure does. He's on the Primal frozen raw nuggets now, they have chicken, venison, and Turkey&sardines, that are all under 8% fat.

      I have a video where I rank 20 different pet foods. That would be a good place to start so that you at least you know what to look for on an ingredient panel when comparing foods. That video is only a small sampling of foods all over the health spectrum and there are many other great options that were not included, but the information applies to everything.

    • @kf5034

      I have 2 Morkies. They used to be on kibble, but one developed pancreatitis and bladder stones. Both are on raw food now, the Primal frozen nuggets and they love it. It's also very affordable for little dogs, $25 a week for 2 dogs.

    As someone who works in a pet store: I hate specialized diets as well. however I've found Farmina specialized diets is a really great way to get people whos vet told them to buy Royal Canin or science diet away from those lower quality foods and on to something with much less filler. They're a compromise food for me. I'd love to her your opinion on Lotus foods as well, they're a smaller company that produces in Canada and specializes in oven baked kibbles and premade raw diets. It's not a company I ever hear talked about by nutritionists.

      there is actually very limited research on the benefits of cranberry in domestic animal foods
      "Cranberry is not processed by kitties, as it contains benzoic acid, which cats lack the pathways to metabolize. Benzoic acid has been shown to cause health issues and even death in kitties. Cranberries also contain Salicylic acid--that is similar to aspirin--another negative. As an alternative: The active ingredient in cranberries is D-Mannose, a simple sugar, so you could consider giving D-Mannose to a kitty who is prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs), and FLUTD, IC, etc. It works by attracting the E. coli bacteria to bind with itself rather than with the bladder wall; the bacteria can then be passed with urination. E. coli is the most common bacteria causing UTIs in kitties, so D-Mannose can be quite beneficial. Klebsiella is another bacteria D-Mannose is effective at fighting. Cranberries, not so much--it is just another cat food ingredient that causes more problems for kitties in the long (or short!) run. Including cranberries in cat food conjures up thoughts of how helpful they may be for humans, so a kitty's human then extrapolates this to cranberries being helpful for kitties--which is just not true because kitties can not process cranberry. Just another marketing ploy by pet food companies in my book." catsite.com

      Ultimately, if you are feeding kibble, my best recommendation is to feed the highest-quality kibble that you can while still having room in your budget to "add to" whether it be canned, cooked, or raw meat. I will be making a video about raw feeding later this week so stay tuned!
