Im feeding Nutrience infusion I’m in Canada not sure if is the best or what but it was recommended by the breeder the other option was Royal Canin but after reading about it I’ve got Nutrience… any thoughts ?
My dachshunds eat homemade raw (different by the day or week) I prepare my dogs food by the day just like prepping my family’s meals. My rescue is still struggling to switch and can’t even handle high quality kibble. But I did find he does well on beaver meat. I source all my meat from a raw co op
I have a pup who was the only survivor of the litter, including her mother died at birth. My vet didn't think she would survive and had trouble with horrible blood work. So many things wrong. Started feeding Stella and Chewy's red kibble and her blood work has been straight down the middle perfect! It was amazing. I have since started addingore fresh food to her diet but still feed her the kibble as part off her diet. She's 7 yrs old now!
We stopped conventional kibble a year ago, switched to Yummers for a few months, then UnKibble, now Carna4! Each step we have seen significant improvement in their health.
@ I completely agree, unfortunately a combination of budget concerns and sourcing near me is limited. And I never said this is all they get. Life, just like for us is all about balance.
I feed Victor Classic all stage life. I have raised, trained, and bred German Shepherds since 2010 and Dobermans since 2017. All dogs are healthy, good digestive, pass all health testing ( OFA hip/elbows,heart,eyes,thyroid) and pass embarks. Good weights! Coats are beautiful. And very cost efficient!
Carna4 has always been the best dog (and cat) food "kibble" for years now. I feed Raw with added Dr. Harvey's. But I got family and friends to jump on Carna4 and its been amazing tor them. I work at a vet clinic and recommended carna4 for a while until I got in trouble for not recommending the standard Purina, Science Diet, Royal Canin brands :/ I still secretly sneak the Carna4 in there, though at the end of the appointments during checkout lolol. Amazing freeze dried food that is.
I’ve been Carna4 for over 2yrs. I rotate between proteins every few months, with no problems. I also use various brands of freeze dried raw. I measure portions very carefully and check all foods for calorie content. I chop & steam fresh veggies for every meal and use sardines and mackerel alternating just as an added little topper. My dog is a mixed breed medium sized girl. Usually stays at around 38 lbs.. I weigh her every other month or so…and she seldom fluctuates. It’s all in how they’re fed….
As a new mom dog … wondering what brand of freeze dried raw you feed your dog? What’s is that? I just know the kibbles and raw, I also make gently cooked meals for my pup thank you
I'm so confused. I thought we were supposed to avoid peas (legumes) because they block taurine. Originally they blamed grainfree food for causing cardiac myopothy, but upon further studies, peas were the issue?
No one really knows anything. If things like this “cause” DCM, how do they explain the millions of dogs that eat it their whole lives and don’t have DCM?
They are looking at everything in total to help owners find the best kibble they can find on the market right now. He did state that none of them are perfect re: some of the ingredients. I’d like to also say Primal Kibble In the Raw also.
The reality is they still don’t know what caused DCM. Experts in our life feel like it’s not one ingredient or another, and rather dogs eating a large amount of “species-inappropriate” foods. This is one of the main reasons we look for dog food with a large amount of meat with organ meat in it ❤️
Could you do a video about the best affordable kibble? All these options are kinda pricy, what about the middle ground kibbles like diamond naturals or purina?
Unfortunately the affordable kibble are really bad…like crazy bad….not worth it. The amount you save on affordable food, you’ll just end up spending it on your dog’s medical bills caused by poor quality food. I use open farm for my dog, to make it more affordable, I mix it with toppers such as sardines, frozen blueberries, etc from Aldi or wholesale stores like Sam’s club or Costco
I got turned off Acana when they changed the recipe for the 3rd time in a year but didn't advertise it anywhere. They've slowly been adding in more lentils and starches. whole green peas, whole red lentils, whole chickpeas, whole green lentils, whole pinto beans, whole yellow peas, lentil fibre, pea starch - the overall makeup of the food is still mostly fresh raw meat, which is great, but this list of legumes and extra starches is getting longer.
I knew it… my dog only stops eating the food when they change the recipe but I was not able to find or local it. THANK YOU. where did u find that information? I feel so bad now. Been putting toppers on it for her to eat it. 😢
I personally think you should have included Lotus dog food. I have a small, senior dog that I thought was going to need to be on a renal diet. Kidney ultrasound & kidney bloodwork values weren’t great. Thanks to Lotus senior dog food her bloodwork is now perfect.
Curious to know your thoughts on the new Open Farm air dried "kibble". Also I wish every Carna4 option didn't have eggs, my dog can't have chicken eggs, though hasn't had any issues with Quail eggs....
I've been feeding our Lab Sadie Open Farm grain free and at the price they charge I don't get the meal meats they use. Carna4 is truly a food for the wealthy. I'm scared 🥺 of Orijen and Acana since Mars bought it.
Id be curious too. My dogs were on nature’s logic but ever since they changed the ingredients recently, they’ve been having runnier and more frequent poo and the amount of poo was concerning so i switched to a different kibble. It’s too bad because i really liked NL..😢
I was surprised to see food that was not soaked in water for almost 8 hours. After that, I make own food , steamed or boiled it at a low temperature. After eating like this, my obesity and constipation disappeared and he got a lot of muscles in legs (I was overweight and was overweighted) chicken breast, chicken heart, liver, and fresh vegetables, omega-3 oil joint nutrition, and organic flax seeds are ground every day. ( one teaspoon) A little snack and fruit (apple and burberry)
Fromm s is the best I've found. Sometimes it's difficult to get bmewhere i live now. I've also heard from various sources, grain free isn't a good thing
Make your own, i have newfoundlands u can buy your own vegs, sweet potatoes and beef or chicken and it will come out less than a $1 pd. U need to add the vitamins & prebiotics if u believe in them(vegs are high in vitamins also). U have no stomach problems, no itchy skin, very few ear infections. And u really know what your feeding your fur babies. Instead of believing the crap that wrote on those bags. Ive had newfoundlands since 1991 my oldest was 14 yrs 7 months. My 2 now are 5 & 6 yrs old. So far, very health. And they enjoy eating.
Though your video was informative, I'll stick with Farmina. Their quality is better than Open Farm as evident in their lower levels of Calcium and Phosphorus. Carna4 is the best, I do agree. I guess we have to pay for quality. I used Carna4 as a training treat.
What about Badlands or Dr. M artys ???? Or have i been suckere.i use one for trauning treats and badlands for generous topper. I also give gently cooked egg, bone broth and a kibble that is perscription from Hills( there was allgery lroblem and this combo is working to keep my shelties hair growing beautifully))
Thanks for this video! I’m in the process to switch pup to adult kibbles now I’m debating if to get carna4 or open farm… I see carna4 is only available on Amazon over here and open farm I can find it in one pet store
Where are these price per lbs coming from? 3.5lb open farm is $29 at my local store. ~ $8.29 per lb. Carna4 2lb bag almost $40. Also, for open farm any recommendation grain free version or ancient grains?
our dog is possibly allergic to protein, we just got him, but we think that he had diarrhea for months and was really thin, probably 25lbs underweight I have to feed him z/d from the vet, it's very expensive, but he is doing much better now and gaining weight, he couldn't even eat pro plan for sensitive stomachs which is our main dog food, people should ask a veterinarian before using a food ,there is a lot about it that is critical to a dogs health
I feed my 3 minature schnauzers Ziwi Peak kibble and canned. It is very expensive and I think it cost more than the carna4 and also great ingredients. I buy it from Chewy or it can be purchased directly from their site.
I fed my Old Boston bulldog Purina Naturals catfood for 16 years. The one time I took him to the vet for a checkup the vet mentioned how fit he was and asked what I was feeding him. She almost had a heart attack when I told her cat food
Hello, question about meals. So if the ingredient panel is based on the food BEFORE it gets cooked, wouldnt meal reassure us that there is a large amount of meat sources protein in there? Whether or not it's already a dried 'protein powder' so to say? I always tell my customers that at the end of the cooking process, fresh meat in a bag of kibble is so much lower on the list than it would seem at first glance while MEAL ensures that a good chunk of the protein does actually come from an animal source. Can you explain to me please whether or not this is accurate? I feel like meal, although rendured, is something you shouldn't hate when looking at a bag of kibble. I would much rather see a specified meat meal after a ton of fresh meat than a bunch of legumes/fillers after a ton of fresh meat. I might be wrong but I wish you would shed some light on this. My customers come in expecting an affordable kibble completely void of meals because the internet tells them its bad. This confuses the customers and makes it difficult to sell the more affordable but still higher end brands.
I'm not sure if you get these in the US, but here in Canada we have two lines in particular I'd love to hear your thoughts on: Horizon (Pulsar, Taiga, and one or two others I haven't used under the Horizon brand) and Boreal. Currently, our puppy is on Boreal, our older dog has been temporarioy switched to Forza10 (an Italian brand I was recommended for the older dog's gut health and allergy/skin issues), but beforehand was on the Horizon line (Pulsar at first, but Taiga was slightly cheaper with a larger bag). I'm curious what you'd think of them, and which one you'd say is more beneficial. The idea being that I want both dogs on the same food once the puppy comes of age, but I'm stuck between the pros and cons of both. I supplement with fruits, veggies, quail eggs, goat's milk, etc. too of course, since I want the best for both my fur kids (if I could afford to feed them raw, I would).
Would adding some Carna4 to my dogs current kibble be beneficial? I can’t afford to feed it on its own but maybe if I added some to my dogs sensitive skin & stomach hills kibble?
I love your videos I have learned so much, but I do have two questions. For one, my dog is allergic to all fish (I can confirm this because his father was also allergic to fish) so he is currently on Victor dog food which I know isn't good dog food but I have no clue what to do because he isn't getting any omega 3 and he also is a hunting dog so I don't know if that would effect his protein and carb percentage. My other question is what is your opinion on Sunday's dog food since you didn't mention it in the video.
Carna4 is, for sure. It's pricey as all hell, though. You could try Boreal, or any of the Horizon line. It's about $80 for a bag of Horizon Taiga, but it's a 35 lbs bag, I believe? Go! is another good brand, roughly around the same price.
Right because most people that have more than a couple of pups can really afford these. You really should do your research. Any food with legumes can cause nutritionally-related cardiomyopathy. That includes peas, pea protein, lentils, chick peas, etc. The legumes are often used in grain-free foods and treats but I’ve seen them in grain-inclusive foods as well. I know this because I ran a rescue for 14 years and after using a holistic grain-free food, TWO of my pups ended up with cardiomyopathy. Both are on expensive heart meds and have to get very expensive heart exams every year. Talk to a Veterinary Cardiologist and they will tell you. The dog food industry continues to try to swipe it under a rug.
I encourage you to get up to date on this topic, as your information seems quite old. They still don’t know what causes DCM, and it’s not as simple as one group of foods. Let’s not spread that misinformation further
if I was to spend $8 a pound for something it wouldn't be for dog food it would be for prime rib or New York strip for my dog. but I think my dog would settle for plain old chicken breast which is not even close to 8 dollars a pound.
I feel like my head is going to explode. I don't know what food to choose. MY dog has anal gland issues so I have to bulk up her poops (which only help a little with expression) I want her off this prescription food b/c of low quality but figuring out which food to choose has my head spinning.
The exact reason i dont feed orijen, and my dog loved that food it was the first kibble we found that he was happy to eat. I was so upset that mars petcare bought them, why do mega corporations have to buy the good stuff
no kibbles for me since my dogs had atopic dermatitis.... home cooked meal... ground pork, sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach and pumkin... ang moringa powder NO KIBBLES.....
Only dogs that work need extremely high protein, older dogs especially. All dogs need grains for their heart. Lack of grains crates cardio myopathy. Research and development for your pet food is very important. make sure you are not just falling for good advertisement. The ingredient list isn’t always as straight forward as you would imagine.
do you give a shit about what aafco recommends? what about calcium and phosphorus ? Too much ways heavy on kidneys and livers and causes stress or failure. good luck to your animals if you follow this advice
Can you review Primal Kibble in the Raw Fish & Pork? My 4 year old English Bulldog has been raised on Orijen first year of his life. Then, Primal Duck and/or Rabbit Raw. Then, incorporated Carna4 Duck and/or Goat. Now, he’s on Steve’s Real Food Raw Pork and/or Turkey. Now, incorporating Primal Kibble in the Raw Fish & Pork. Carna4 makes his throat itchy and extra thirsty; therefore, I have been trying Primal Kibble in the Raw.
Why talk about meat meals when kibble needs meat meals to make processed kibble. And if my dog doesn’t eat limited ingredient dog food she gets the poops. Very sensitive stomach and she has had diarrhea from fresh food as well and I can’t afford to cook lamb or venison for my dog. I need some more different options. 😒
I have meat market by me they have beef lamb bison elk and deer meat for people but i buy for my dogs they are wolfdogs. They have all kinds of types ground bison hotdogs roast etc. but i also been using my ollie frozen dogfood they love it also crave dogfood but they are owned by mars why is people not happy with mars

if I was to spend $8 a pound for something it wouldn't be for dog food it would be for prime rib or New York strip for my dog. but I think my dog would settle for plain old chicken breast which is not even close to 8 dollars a pound.
I feel like my head is going to explode. I don't know what food to choose. MY dog has anal gland issues so I have to bulk up her poops (which only help a little with expression) I want her off this prescription food b/c of low quality but figuring out which food to choose has my head spinning.
What are your thoughts on Jiminy's Cravin Cricket or Jiminy's Good Grub? 🤔
I wish you’d include the
Vit D &
Phosphorus %
Stella & chewys?
The exact reason i dont feed orijen, and my dog loved that food it was the first kibble we found that he was happy to eat. I was so upset that mars petcare bought them, why do mega corporations have to buy the good stuff
Orijen is number 1
It’s clearly not
Why not N and D?
My vet told me to be careful with high protein pet food as it can effect kidneys esp older dogs. ?????????

I have to do 4 jobs to feed Carna4 LOL

Dr. Pols?
Not sure I agree with your choices. I use Farmina for my kitties
Cool!
Lack of grain in no way causes DCM. Please look into that topic more for the latest
None, I feed my puppy fresh food. I prepare chicken, beef, Turkey, vegetables, and fruits that are healthy for my pet.
What do you do to balance the food?
Dr. Pol salmon.
do you give a shit about what aafco recommends? what about calcium and phosphorus ? Too much ways heavy on kidneys and livers and causes stress or failure. good luck to your animals if you follow this advice
The stupidity of all of these kibbles (IMO) is that if you’re paying $3-4/ lb for kibble… you should STOP and buy real meat instead.
Orijen dog food is the best dog food ever. Never buy any dog food at Walmart. O'l Roy has meat meal which is dead dogs and cats.
Kibble does not need meat meals 😂
I have meat market by me they have beef lamb bison elk and deer meat for people but i buy for my dogs they are wolfdogs. They have all kinds of types ground bison hotdogs roast etc. but i also been using my ollie frozen dogfood they love it also crave dogfood but they are owned by mars why is people not happy with mars
WHO COULD AFFORD ANY OF THOSE KIBBLES U RATED???
THATS CORRECT..NO ONE!!!
Tons of people in this very comments section feed various foods from this list
None of it. They're all garbage.
Cool
Why are you sweating like you've been eating that food grade dog food for a week straight?
Not sweaty, just glossy ☺️
Smh only Trump cabinet appointees can afford these dog food.
