Despite all that I’m an art teacher for high risk youth and am trying so hard to bring more light into this world. THANK YOU for being one of the good ones. I only recently accidentally discovered you Ren, when on UA-cam I randomly saw "Hi Ren" & was immediately blown away!! As a 58 year old man who has all my life been incredibly embraced by music, but really never one to listen to lyrics (Sad I know but to me it has always been the rhythm/melody that have grabbed me first) I found your lyrics, portrayal & music in that video to be completely unique & like Velcro or a spiders web, I was immediately hooked! I had to hear more!! I have since listened to & watched as many of your songs as I can find. Almost EVERY single song is as hard, intelligent, of our time, real, touching....I could go on, but It's hard to find the same words that you seem to find so easily, in order to describe your talent! I am truly astounded by the depth of feeling, empathy & wisdom of your lyrics! They can be dark, disturbing, thoughtful, inspirational, amusing & the music too is so varied, but always melodic, catchy & in perfect sync with the lyrics. There are a lot of musicians out there who have songs that can be considered their "usual stuff". One of the things I love about Ren is he has nothing in the neighborhood of "usual stuff". Ren , I’m 56 yr old woman . I suffered mental illness age 21. When I look back I know it pushed me into being a more compassionate human being. No matter how dark it gets, you’re not alone. You might not know them, they might not know you, but when it feels like there is absolutely nothing left to give and everything feels hopeless, remember there are people going through similar situations. Seek them out when you can and help them get through it together, it’s the only way I’ve managed the last 15 years with chronic pain, and the repercussions of trying to fix it. Laughing at myself helps, but there’s nothing quite like someone else understanding it. My wife has been there besides me the whole time and she understood. Unfortunately she recently got diagnosed with a chronic issue and her realization of how bad it can get was a bit eye opening for both of us. I learned to open up more about the bad days and it’s helped quite a bit. Not everyone has someone as close, though we often don’t know how much our friends/family are also struggling, and it’s a good rule of thumb to not trust, and open up, to random people on the internet, but there are some really good communities out there. Hang tough, you can do this!

My 20's seemed rather hopeless, while everyone around me was having the time of their life, I was in an apathetic fog, as the years rolled on, I slowly lived through this, and now I am blessed with an insightful philosophy that allows me to appreciate life as I never could have imagined. It may not seem "normal" to feel down, but with rest and introspection comes wisdom. I hope and wish the best in your struggle. Keep it together, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know this video is old, but I’ve only discovered you very recently. This past week…your music has kept me alive. And I mean that very literally. I’ve been on a never ending journey with my mental illness my entire life and recently after losing the job of my dreams and many other other things that have happened I’ve fallen into a deeper hole than the one I usually live in. It’s dark here…darker than I’m accustomed to. And just when I was ready to accept that darkness I happened across Chalk Outlines while listening to Chinchilla. From there I found Hi Ren and I can honestly say I was floored, I did not expect to click on a video and see a live action remake of my own mind plays out daily. This is the first time I have EVER found someone who I immediately stopped and thought “holy shit, he’s like me. He IS me.” There’s a lot more I’d love to bore you with the details but I truly just want you to know…even now, just this week..your art has saved someone. When all I could see was darkness, you handed me a flashlight. It’s still dark of course, but it’s much easier to find a way out if you have a little light to guide you. 🖤
I´m a 58 year old man from Belgium with a lovely wife and great sons, but unfortunately I went through the deepest dark for two-three years due to a number of reasons. But since april last year I feel good again (what a feeling! - since I didn´t expect it any more) thanks to therapy, that I didn´t want /avoided way to long. But the real lifesavers/lifechangers in that period were... artists/video´s on You Tube. If Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) didn´t sing 'Hold on/Hang on' in Everybody Hurts, I doubt if I would still be here. If Nightbirde didn´t sing ´It´s okay´ on AGT and didn´t say ´You can´t wait until life isn´t hard anymore before you decide to be happy', maybe I´d still be depressed. Just to say: I saw THIS video (and 'Hi Ren' and the reactions on YT to it) and I know FOR SURE this changes the life/thoughts of many people, this indeed saves lives. Ren = hope. Because he´s real. Because he´s been there. Because he´s a (beautiful) human being...
Finally, I have something to tell my children when depression, anxiety, mood instability, etc overwhelm them. Your letter is a gold mine of encouragement and support. A friend for anyone who hears your words.

As a parent that has 2 adult children in their 20s with ASD living at home, one of whom has severe mental health issues and has been struggling since she was in her teens i am so grateful to you. I only discovered you a few weeks ago. Already, not only have you reached her in the place she is in mentally and now physical (she wont leave her room, needs help to bathe etc). You have helped me too, this 55 year old mum who is so exhausted, has been taking citalopram since i cant remember and feels like she will be forever in this forever rut of full time work and caring day in day out witb no end in sight. BUT heres the thing, i actually found myself looking over at the corner of the room the other day where my guitar and bass have been collecting dust for the last decade.....and for the first time in what seems like a lifetime, i wanted to pick them up. I only recently accidentally discovered you Ren, when on UA-cam I randomly saw "Hi Ren" & was immediately blown away!! As a 58 year old man who has all my life been incredibly embraced by music, but really never one to listen to lyrics (Sad I know but to me it has always been the rhythm/melody that have grabbed me first) I found your lyrics, portrayal & music in that video to be completely unique & like Velcro or a spiders web, I was immediately hooked! I had to hear more!! I have since listened to & watched as many of your songs as I can find. Almost EVERY single song is as hard, intelligent, of our time, real, touching....I could go on, but It's hard to find the same words that you seem to find so easily, in order to describe your talent! I am truly astounded by the depth of feeling, empathy & wisdom of your lyrics! They can be dark, disturbing, thoughtful, inspirational, amusing & the music too is so varied, but always melodic, catchy & in perfect sync with the lyrics. It speaks to me very much as well it is liberating. I suffer from Adhd and bipolar disorder as well.
No matter how dark it gets, you’re not alone. You might not know them, they might not know you, but when it feels like there is absolutely nothing left to give and everything feels hopeless, remember there are people going through similar situations. Seek them out when you can and help them get through it together, it’s the only way I’ve managed the last 15 years with chronic pain, and the repercussions of trying to fix it. Laughing at myself helps, but there’s nothing quite like someone else understanding it.
My wife has been there besides me the whole time and she understood. Unfortunately she recently got diagnosed with a chronic issue and her realization of how bad it can get was a bit eye opening for both of us. I learned to open up more about the bad days and it’s helped quite a bit.
Not everyone has someone as close, though we often don’t know how much our friends/family are also struggling, and it’s a good rule of thumb to not trust, and open up, to random people on the internet, but there are some really good communities out there.

I know this video is old, but I’ve only discovered you very recently. This past week…your music has kept me alive. And I mean that very literally. I’ve been on a never ending journey with my mental illness my entire life and recently after losing the job of my dreams and many other other things that have happened I’ve fallen into a deeper hole than the one I usually live in. It’s dark here…darker than I’m accustomed to. And just when I was ready to accept that darkness I happened across Chalk Outlines while listening to Chinchilla.
From there I found Hi Ren and I can honestly say I was floored, I did not expect to click on a video and see a live action remake of my own mind plays out daily. This is the first time I have EVER found someone who I immediately stopped and thought “holy shit, he’s like me. He IS me.”
There’s a lot more I’d love to bore you with the details but I truly just want you to know…even now, just this week..your art has saved someone. When all I could see was darkness, you handed me a flashlight. It’s still dark of course, but it’s much easier to find a way out if you have a little light to guide you. 🖤
I´m a 58 year old man from Belgium with a lovely wife and great sons, but unfortunately I went through the deepest dark for two-three years due to a number of reasons. But since april last year I feel good again (what a feeling! - since I didn´t expect it any more) thanks to therapy, that I didn´t want /avoided way to long. But the real lifesavers/lifechangers in that period were... artists/video´s on You Tube. If Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) didn´t sing 'Hold on/Hang on' in Everybody Hurts, I doubt if I would still be here. If Nightbirde didn´t sing ´It´s okay´ on AGT and didn´t say ´You can´t wait until life isn´t hard anymore before you decide to be happy', maybe I´d still be depressed. Just to say: I saw THIS video (and 'Hi Ren' and the reactions on YT to it) and I know FOR SURE this changes the life/thoughts of many people, this indeed saves lives. Ren = hope. Because he´s real. Because he´s been there. Because he´s a (beautiful) human being...

Thankyou Ren. As a parent that has 2 adult children in their 20s with ASD living at home, one of whom has severe mental health issues and has been struggling since she was in her teens i am so grateful to you. I only discovered you a few weeks ago. Already, not only have you reached her in the place she is in mentally and now physical (she wont leave her room, needs help to bathe etc). You have helped me too, this 55 year old mum who is so exhausted, has been taking citalopram since i cant remember and feels like she will be forever in this forever rut of full time work and caring day in day out witb no end in sight. BUT heres the thing, i actually found myself looking over at the corner of the room the other day where my guitar and bass have been collecting dust for the last decade.....and for the first time in what seems like a lifetime, i wanted to pick them up. I havent yet.....but the spark has reignited. So thankyou. Xxx ❤️

I'm the Father of 4 and the grandfather of 8. I only discovered you, your music and your struggles when I came across HI Ren. I find myself caring a great deal about you and how you're doing even though I don't know you personally. You have helped many people by sharing your personal struggles and your music. Keep it up. I really hope and pray you continue to get better both physically and mentally. I am one of the million.
