3:19 I found this too, I got no music when I entered this nightmare sequence. I honestly felt more creeped out that I was in a dark dorm hall on my own,but I found it that the silence left me in suspense and I liked it
But the most annoying issue for me in this Remaster, is the missing post credits in both Remastered Collection. That is literally the nicest way to end an episode. The whole graphic improvcements in good, just some glitches. But the main features are not supposed to be missing from the Original.
Wow.. I don't know how else to put it. You hit EVERY nail on the head with this video. Everything that was shown in this video was exactly everything that went through my head when I was playing the remaster for myself. As a HUGE fan of Life is Strange, I was really disappointed to see how this game turned out. I would have much preferred if they had just delayed the remaster again by a few months and took the time to touch everything up. Maybe even hire some actual QA testers? (lol) Also, just wanted to point out another bug I found when playing. During any ending cutscene segment, you can actually rewind time and it will display the weird "distortion" filter over the cutscene, and at one point of me just spamming the button, I ended up softlocking the game and it wouldn't progress any further.
I didn't even know that they'd taken out the shaking of the camera when rewinding. When I first saw the remake I knew it was going to be a disaster and my opinion has not changed. They look downright horrible and the game has lost its spirit. I've been in love with LiS ever since they first came out and I'll always stick to the original versions, especially now seeing what a mistake these remakes were. The original had its own style and story. The remakes have only a story.
They thought wrong when they decided realism is somehwat better, or an improvement, for a game that was never meant to be realistic graphicwise...biggest mistake.
@Lana obviously they wanted to earn money by investing resources in it as little as possible ... sad. the first game, as it was an icon, has remained, I would like more such games, their further games are much weaker and more boring, then they decided to replace such an interesting ability to rewind time with others, their serious mistake.

At 2:10 I’m pretty sure getting stuck while rewinding was a bug from the original that happened quite frequently back in 2015, although I’m pretty sure it got fixed eventually. Other than that though, all of the other bugs and glitches you mentioned seemed completely new. A theory me and my friends have about the remaster for LiS1 is that Deck Nine actually took the mobile port (which was already running on Unreal Engine 4) of the game instead of the console/PC versions. Things like Max’s camera breaking and vomiting glass as well as the shaky dialogue text were all present in the mobile version. Interacting with objects also feels similar to the mobile port as well.
On of the most telling moments is the morning in Chloe's room after the Blackwell and pool brake in. In the original, the flag that drapes the window moves gently and you feel that it is swayed by the morning breeze. Little details that give so much atmosphere. In the Remasters, it's static. - No morning breeze for you, shaka brah.
honestly when they said they're gonna do a remaster, I kinda wanted them to go with something similar with Arcane. 3D, but looking like oil painted so feels like 2D because that's..what original game also intended to do. But...I guess they tried to go for the more realistic looking style... Also I remember playing this game, live streaming for my friend who didn't know anything about LIS And I told him "Do you know this is actually motion capped?" and he was like "wait, seriously? there's no way that's motion captured" And even I didn't know it too, so even if the creators keep telling people it's motion capped, it never looks like it so this is also a problem.
Exactly what i had in mind. Life is strange had this painted art style aesthetic that I really adored which is why I also didn't like the style of true colors since it looked very different and less..life is strange-y?
I like the texture/aesthetic comparison you made to True Colors. True colors already has its own more realistic and detailed standards that jump from LiS 1+2, while still staying with an indie film. While LiS stays with that impressionistic rendering - which does look thrown off when realism is added to it
Are these small improvements / changes worth buying the same game again for twice the price? Not to mention that the currently offered "remaster" is not a clear improvement, but unfinished at best. Other developers offer such graphics updates as a free download.
Remember that this game was released across different gens for consoles. And an update could break or fail the game. It's why the LOU (part 1) was not given an updated patch either. Granted, that game was less buggy upon the release. If you can get past the bugs (which S1 had, too), you can visually see the improvements. I don't expect much from this company since-regardless of who works on it; The game comes out with lots of bugs anyway. There are a lot of clear improvements and a matter of preference for if you prefer the remaster or not.

And as for the other commentor,...if we were to compare facial animations to LOU to LIS...there is arguably a huge difference in facial animations. And they remastered them because the games are old and look old.
I think removing the music in the hallway does add a more creepy element to it. Compared to the rest of the series the sudden silence gave me goosebumps
I heard somewhere there was more to Nathan & his family and a different ending. It would be cool to have seen that. The creators were rushed to finish the game as well which is y we didn't get what they were gonna do.
Honestly I played the original for the first time just a few months before the remastered was announced and I had a much better time with that than this. Almost none of the bugs I experienced with the remastered were present in the original. It honestly felt like I was playing an alpha version of the original game.
Another thing that many people don't notice is that the remaster has more loading screens; for example when Max wakes up in the classroom for the first time. There's no loading screen there in the original and there is one in the remaster and it honestly makes the scene inferior.
The shadow person is in the OG game as well, it's Warren lurking... or your point was that it was a shadow and no longer able to see it's Warren and I missed the mark 😅
I thought her walking speed was just me, glad to hear that I wasn't just crazy it really was slower. I got the subtitle glitch and I had a lot of jumpy Max glitches where her character model would start flickering in a crazy way.
This is a really great review, thank you. I bought it once on sale, but haven't played it yet. I loved the originals and agree that Max and Chloe look a bit strange, especially Max. She looks much paler and you can't see her freckles much anymore. Hopefully they fix all of the bugs!

Any time I start my game it makes me start from the middle of episode 3 and I cannot save any progress. I was so mad, spent an hour playing then left the game only to come back to have to replay all of the episode. Uggg.
The most annoying bug I encountered while playing on PS5 were bright streaks that appear continuously at the edges of the screen, for the duration of the game these streaks of light do not disappear and it is very annoying! Have you encountered this bug? How can this be solved once and for all?
I agree, it's not necessary to buy the remaster, I own the old ones and if I play it again, I'll go back to those. TC looks awesome and I am looking forward to what the future of the series will be.
about the materials thing: both LiS og and LiS remaster use regular textures. the difference is, that LiS 1 was built on Unreal Engine 3 without the use of PBR (physically based rendering) LiS Remastered is build with UE4, which has PBR materials. Which means, basically, even though stylized, the materails in Remastered are physicsally Accurate.
My issue with the Remastered Collection isn't that it sucks, the originals are still on Steam to buy. It's that Square Enix is pushing those, so the original LiS and BtS never go on sale as a result. I want to play BtS but I can't justify paying full price for it.
One thing i think has improved is when max and chloe are in the lighthouse during the storm by the end. Not only is it more emotional in the remastered but i also like how their hair are moving instead of staying still like in the original. Overral i still think the original is better tho
Im happy that i didnt get the remaster and just got the deluxe edition for True colors don't get me wrong I dont mind a remaster but after the gta trilogy i have been incredibly cautious about Remasters but im glad they're still patching the games
I haven't checked myself but I heard that "burnt film effect when over rewinding and Max gets headache" is gone in remastered, also sadly clocks and flying birds don't rewind while Max is rewinding unlike the original. Face expressions are okay in remastered but because all the great details are gone and everything else but face expressions are worse I would never "upgrade" to remastered. Original Life is Strange forever!

No, these games are known to release with a low frame rate. There was a recent patch so it may have been improved slightly. They had the same problem with True Colors, which was released at 30 fps.
I only played Life Is Strange recently. Luckily I didn't play the remaster, since remasters usually (inadvertently) destroy a lot of important details from the original that were carefully balanced by the original authors. But the annoying thing is that I can't recommend this game to people without also advising them to try to find the original, not the remaster... which of course they won't bother doing; if they play it, they'll just pick up the easiest one to buy, which is the remaster. The way this one essentially erases the original is the most disappointing thing about it.
Yes, because Deck Nine was at the helm for this remaster. Don't Nod worked on the original Life is Strange game and Deck Nine worked on Before the Storm. So, to the Deck Nine devs, Before the Storm was their "baby" and put more effort into the game they themselves originally created. It also pains me that many of the bugs listed (From the original game) still occur even today. The pre-rendered cutscenes were the most annoying of them all.
As of now, I agree. Still don't think it's worth buying, but I do like it more than most people I don't really mind that the original art style is pretty much lost. I was not that big of a fan of the painting idea and I'm very glad most characters' hairs don't look like wood anymore The envinronments also look fantastic. I even feel too much attention was put into them Many scenes have a HUGE difference with lip-sync and it's very welcome. I was watching some gameplay videos of the original after playing the remastered and it was impossible not to remember just how stiff and weird animations could be in the original Max's model gives me a different look, too, for sure, but I enjoy her new character model greatly. Meanwhile, I despise Kate's model. It looks absolutely ridiculous in some scenes and ALL the time worse than in the original like this video said, it's feels as if it was remastered too much and not enough at the same time It's a very incomplete work. They remastered multiple character models, but then left many secondary ones completely untouched and they look ridiculous in contrast (they also didn't bother improving their lip-sync, so really, most of the optional conversations you'll have will look awkward and strange) Episode 3 and 4 are the biggest offenders imo. It's where I found the biggest amount of issues and it seems the developers just didn't improve lip-sync on most of those episodes. So much less effort was put into them as for bugs, I didn't notice many. Small things bothered me, such as the weird flashlight lightning in Blackwell at night, but I didn't get nearly as many visual issues in the current version as players have reported in the past, so maybe the devs fixed it or I got lucky but I did face random crashes in specific sections, which would make me lose progress multiple times until I started to rush through those sections to avoid getting kicked out of the game and overall, it just felt rough around some corners so yeah, it's not worth the price, not as long as it's unstable and the originals work just fine but unless they fix it, the inconsistency in quality will ALWAYS be a huge issue
I don´t know, I got a chance to buy the collection of all the games (LIS Remastered, LIS: Before the storm Remastered, LIS 2, LIS: True Colors) in a sale and haven´t anything buggy, maybe they care about it and fixed it, unlike Mafia 2 definitive edition...
I was really disappointed in this remastered. I actually played it before playing the original, since I discovered this series a month ago. I started with true colors (wich felt like one of the best games i've ever played being my start of the series, but now feels empty after playing the real masterpiece, the first game), so i had no idea of how they did the remastered and I didn't quite look for infos before playing since i couldn't wait to get into the series. After playing the remastered first and the original later, I was so disappointed in the fact that the remastered, along with the subtitles bugs wich occured AT EVERY CHECKPOINT captured my interest much less than the original. At least bts was remastered better than the first game, but still, I wish for an actual remaster of the first game, and that they give it all the time it needs to either update the already existing mess or just make a new one. I know it's almost impossible but still, I'll always hope this game will be on everyone's mind again.
Honestly I felt pretty letdown with the remastered edition. I have so much love for the original that I never even dreamed of it being redone. I didn't care about the robotic expressions. In fact I didn't even notice it and now that I do, I STILL don't care. I really liked the art style of the original. The remastered edition looks like it meant well, but flopped in several areas. Also I feel as though they should have either made the graphics match those of True Colors or left it alone. Personally I'd rather them had left it alone.

I love this game and I hate the remaster. I think that's fair. Like I can acknowledge the changes that were made that were actually good, but a lot of the bugs, lighting and absense of music and dialogue in some important scenes took me out of the Life is Strange experience and put me in the "I got suckered into paying money for a rushed remaster in 2022 experience".
I feel really bad for anyone who ends up experiencing the games for the first time like this. The only thing that seems to be improved is the facial animations which are the only thing really dated about the original.
I saw that it was on sale so got curious and then checked some videos like these on UA-cam comparing the two side by side. I really don't see any noteworthy difference at all between the two games. It's not worth the price, not even on sale IMHO.
Its not just Warren becoming shadow person, but entire outside area of Dorms here, is for reasons uknown to me, taken directly from original. That blew my mind, because when we go to Max's room in episode 1 and look out of window, its remastered version, but for some reason, they have decided use old one here. Like, why? I was staring at it for few minutes trying to figure it out, but i couldnt come with any logical explanation. And sometimes that contrast is mindblowing, like parking lot next to Two Whales Dinner, that uses old, low res ground textures, but cars are upscaled. Comical. But not Frank's Van, even if it had better model shown in episode 1, here its very ugly, very low res version of same vehicle taken directly from original. Again, why? If you do remaster, then remaster. Dont do half baked job. Top is that woman waiting for the bus in same scene. She had already terrible looking model in original, but now she doesnt look like human at all. More like pink potato. They simply didnt bother. Where they did bother, they did pretty good job, but whats the point if you mix it with old and ugly. Its only making it look worse where old and new gets combined.

After watching LiS 1 in 2015 it definitely left me wanting more! I hope they make a LiS 2 with Max and Chloe instead of trying to fix this masterpiece.
man just what is going on with games in general these days... these years, when they release a remaster is inferior to any other original game they launched way back in the day, and when they release a new game is always buggy or just non functional and sadly in the case of this we got 1. OVERPRICED 2. BUGGY and 3. NON FUNCTIONAL and i say non functional because its job was to breathe in some new life into the original life is strange while still having that charm to it instead it leaves us in an uncanny valley with huge anime eyes and broken lighting effects, it DOES NOT do what it set out to do, non of what im seeing here warrants a $40 purchase that's insane, thats like charging $40 for a lollipop it better be the size of a macbook for $40 jeez
I was never into the life is strange franchise. My issues with the story is that Max is a very passive character. Things really happen around her and the ending reflects that. She doesn't even make a choice really it's either, do nothing and Chloe lives or do nothing in the past and Chloe dies. Chloe is the actual main character, she pushes the plot forward because she wants to find her missing girlfriend. Chloe is really my biggest issue too. She's very manipulative and self center and I get that's the point but just because their goal was to make her a bad person doesn't mean I like her as a character. I need to like Chloe to be invested in the story because Max revolves around Chloe the whole time, Chloe basically starts the entire plot in the first place. But because she's so unlikable I lose investment. Why should I help Chloe, a person who has done nothing but use Max for her own means, takes no responsibility for anything. The scene where Max talks to her clone that tells her how bad of person Chloe is, was completely right. Chloe only ever used Max for her own personal gain and for some reason the writers want me to believe this a good friendship/romance???
I think you forgot this is a game. They chose this way of relation and personality dynamics and story development. Stop judging the game with severe subjectivety that sources from your beliefs, perception and actually evaluate it properly. :)

And I agree unless you can connect with the character or put on some red-tinted glasses...you’re not going to like the game. Also, Racheal is not Chloe’s gf; BTS implies something romantic may have happened, but that's retcon by the first game. Which only means something may have happened. Also, Racheal is manipulative; I doubt she loved Chole that way. She loved Frank and later fell in love with Jefferson. The healthiest friendship and romantic relationship(s) are in True Colors. Maybe it's the maturity, or perhaps the characters are too codependent.

I can only think of two people who didn't love/worship Rachel Amber - Victoria Chase and David Madsen. Even Principal Wells was in her corner. Yet, despite that, we only see two, maybe three characters who are actually upset about her disappearance - Chloe, Frank, and, maybe, Nathan. Frank is someone she claimed to love, but he says in Episode 5 that he never expected it to last. Chloe's the only person we encounter who expected to go with Rachel when she disappeared, or, at least, to hear from her. That could mean that Chloe is just more naive about her, or it could mean that Chloe is the one Rachel actually made promises to. We do know that Rachel kept secrets from Chloe, and that she was not monogamous, but they were close enough that she had space in Chloe's wardrobe, and that, even after 6 months, Joyce still half-expected Rachel to come downstairs some morning - if Rachel wasn't expected to be in that context, Joyce wouldn't have misidentified Max just based on wearing the same outfit. And even if Rachel could fool Chloe easily, which isn't a given, charming Joyce at the same time would be seriously impressive parent-whispering. I'm not going to say that Rachel was an angel, but, while we have reason to doubt her commitment to Chloe, we've no reason to question Chloe's attachment to Rachel. From Chloe's side, Rachel was definitely a girlfriend and soul-mate, however Rachel felt about Chloe.

The first game contains realism too. It's just not in the same realism aspect as Assassin's Creed or Horizon.

I've never played the mobile port but I'd believe it, given how low quality some of the textures are now too.

I heard somewhere there was more to Nathan & his family and a different ending. It would be cool to have seen that. The creators were rushed to finish the game as well which is y we didn't get what they were gonna do.
Honestly I played the original for the first time just a few months before the remastered was announced and I had a much better time with that than this. Almost none of the bugs I experienced with the remastered were present in the original. It honestly felt like I was playing an alpha version of the original game.
I really don't like the way the characters look now. The older had more personality. Great video on the topic!
Another thing that many people don't notice is that the remaster has more loading screens; for example when Max wakes up in the classroom for the first time. There's no loading screen there in the original and there is one in the remaster and it honestly makes the scene inferior.
The shadow person is in the OG game as well, it's Warren lurking... or your point was that it was a shadow and no longer able to see it's Warren and I missed the mark 😅

I thought her walking speed was just me, glad to hear that I wasn't just crazy it really was slower. I got the subtitle glitch and I had a lot of jumpy Max glitches where her character model would start flickering in a crazy way.

This is a really great review, thank you. I bought it once on sale, but haven't played it yet. I loved the originals and agree that Max and Chloe look a bit strange, especially Max. She looks much paler and you can't see her freckles much anymore. Hopefully they fix all of the bugs!
Again feels like the team was pushed on the deadline... this could have been way better but it almost seems like they didn't play through the finished game or debug parts at all.

Any time I start my game it makes me start from the middle of episode 3 and I cannot save any progress. I was so mad, spent an hour playing then left the game only to come back to have to replay all of the episode. Uggg.

The most annoying bug I encountered while playing on PS5 were bright streaks that appear continuously at the edges of the screen, for the duration of the game these streaks of light do not disappear and it is very annoying! Have you encountered this bug? How can this be solved once and for all?

I agree, it's not necessary to buy the remaster, I own the old ones and if I play it again, I'll go back to those. TC looks awesome and I am looking forward to what the future of the series will be.
about the materials thing:
both LiS og and LiS remaster use regular textures.
the difference is, that LiS 1 was built on Unreal Engine 3 without the use of PBR (physically based rendering) LiS Remastered is build with UE4, which has PBR materials. Which means, basically, even though stylized, the materails in Remastered are physicsally Accurate.

My issue with the Remastered Collection isn't that it sucks, the originals are still on Steam to buy. It's that Square Enix is pushing those, so the original LiS and BtS never go on sale as a result. I want to play BtS but I can't justify paying full price for it.
I personally didn't bother with the remaster. The original game graphics and gameplay still holds up today even on the newer consoles.

One thing i think has improved is when max and chloe are in the lighthouse during the storm by the end. Not only is it more emotional in the remastered but i also like how their hair are moving instead of staying still like in the original. Overral i still think the original is better tho

I haven't checked myself but I heard that "burnt film effect when over rewinding and Max gets headache" is gone in remastered, also sadly clocks and flying birds don't rewind while Max is rewinding unlike the original. Face expressions are okay in remastered but because all the great details are gone and everything else but face expressions are worse I would never "upgrade" to remastered. Original Life is Strange forever!
I enjoyed my time with the remaster of Life is strange, specifically the first game as i have no plans on replaying BtS anytime soon. Although something about the remake felt "off" just cant place what.

No, these games are known to release with a low frame rate. There was a recent patch so it may have been improved slightly. They had the same problem with True Colors, which was released at 30 fps.

I only played Life Is Strange recently. Luckily I didn't play the remaster, since remasters usually (inadvertently) destroy a lot of important details from the original that were carefully balanced by the original authors. But the annoying thing is that I can't recommend this game to people without also advising them to try to find the original, not the remaster... which of course they won't bother doing; if they play it, they'll just pick up the easiest one to buy, which is the remaster. The way this one essentially erases the original is the most disappointing thing about it.

Yes, because Deck Nine was at the helm for this remaster. Don't Nod worked on the original Life is Strange game and Deck Nine worked on Before the Storm. So, to the Deck Nine devs, Before the Storm was their "baby" and put more effort into the game they themselves originally created. It also pains me that many of the bugs listed (From the original game) still occur even today. The pre-rendered cutscenes were the most annoying of them all.

Many scenes have a HUGE difference with lip-sync and it's very welcome. I was watching some gameplay videos of the original after playing the remastered and it was impossible not to remember just how stiff and weird animations could be in the original
Max's model gives me a different look, too, for sure, but I enjoy her new character model greatly.
Meanwhile, I despise Kate's model. It looks absolutely ridiculous in some scenes and ALL the time worse than in the original

It's a very incomplete work. They remastered multiple character models, but then left many secondary ones completely untouched and they look ridiculous in contrast (they also didn't bother improving their lip-sync, so really, most of the optional conversations you'll have will look awkward and strange)
Episode 3 and 4 are the biggest offenders imo. It's where I found the biggest amount of issues and it seems the developers just didn't improve lip-sync on most of those episodes. So much less effort was put into them
as for bugs, I didn't notice many. Small things bothered me, such as the weird flashlight lightning in Blackwell at night, but I didn't get nearly as many visual issues in the current version as players have reported in the past, so maybe the devs fixed it or I got lucky
but I did face random crashes in specific sections, which would make me lose progress multiple times until I started to rush through those sections to avoid getting kicked out of the game and overall, it just felt rough around some corners
so yeah, it's not worth the price, not as long as it's unstable and the originals work just fine
but unless they fix it, the inconsistency in quality will ALWAYS be a huge issue

I don´t know, I got a chance to buy the collection of all the games (LIS Remastered, LIS: Before the storm Remastered, LIS 2, LIS: True Colors) in a sale and haven´t anything buggy, maybe they care about it and fixed it, unlike Mafia 2 definitive edition...
Just started playing through the remastered original game and Nathan is a huge hurricane of glitchy textures in my play through. Can't see him at all
I was really disappointed in this remastered. I actually played it before playing the original, since I discovered this series a month ago. I started with true colors (wich felt like one of the best games i've ever played being my start of the series, but now feels empty after playing the real masterpiece, the first game), so i had no idea of how they did the remastered and I didn't quite look for infos before playing since i couldn't wait to get into the series. After playing the remastered first and the original later, I was so disappointed in the fact that the remastered, along with the subtitles bugs wich occured AT EVERY CHECKPOINT captured my interest much less than the original. At least bts was remastered better than the first game, but still, I wish for an actual remaster of the first game, and that they give it all the time it needs to either update the already existing mess or just make a new one. I know it's almost impossible but still, I'll always hope this game will be on everyone's mind again.
Honestly I felt pretty letdown with the remastered edition. I have so much love for the original that I never even dreamed of it being redone. I didn't care about the robotic expressions. In fact I didn't even notice it and now that I do, I STILL don't care. I really liked the art style of the original. The remastered edition looks like it meant well, but flopped in several areas. Also I feel as though they should have either made the graphics match those of True Colors or left it alone. Personally I'd rather them had left it alone.

I love this game and I hate the remaster. I think that's fair. Like I can acknowledge the changes that were made that were actually good, but a lot of the bugs, lighting and absense of music and dialogue in some important scenes took me out of the Life is Strange experience and put me in the "I got suckered into paying money for a rushed remaster in 2022 experience".
I feel really bad for anyone who ends up experiencing the games for the first time like this. The only thing that seems to be improved is the facial animations which are the only thing really dated about the original.

I saw that it was on sale so got curious and then checked some videos like these on UA-cam comparing the two side by side. I really don't see any noteworthy difference at all between the two games. It's not worth the price, not even on sale IMHO.
Its not just Warren becoming shadow person, but entire outside area of Dorms here, is for reasons uknown to me, taken directly from original. That blew my mind, because when we go to Max's room in episode 1 and look out of window, its remastered version, but for some reason, they have decided use old one here. Like, why?
I was staring at it for few minutes trying to figure it out, but i couldnt come with any logical explanation.
And sometimes that contrast is mindblowing, like parking lot next to Two Whales Dinner, that uses old, low res ground textures, but cars are upscaled. Comical.
But not Frank's Van, even if it had better model shown in episode 1, here its very ugly, very low res version of same vehicle taken directly from original. Again, why?

Top is that woman waiting for the bus in same scene. She had already terrible looking model in original, but now she doesnt look like human at all. More like pink potato.
They simply didnt bother. Where they did bother, they did pretty good job, but whats the point if you mix it with old and ugly. Its only making it look worse where old and new gets combined.
Walking is better slower. In original its unnatural to walk that fast. Exept for first mision going to bathroom. I get why shes in hurry there :D

man just what is going on with games in general these days... these years, when they release a remaster is inferior to any other original game they launched way back in the day, and when they release a new game is always buggy or just non functional and sadly in the case of this we got 1. OVERPRICED 2. BUGGY and 3. NON FUNCTIONAL and i say non functional because its job was to breathe in some new life into the original life is strange while still having that charm to it instead it leaves us in an uncanny valley with huge anime eyes and broken lighting effects, it DOES NOT do what it set out to do, non of what im seeing here warrants a $40 purchase that's insane, thats like charging $40 for a lollipop it better be the size of a macbook for $40 jeez

I was never into the life is strange franchise. My issues with the story is that Max is a very passive character. Things really happen around her and the ending reflects that. She doesn't even make a choice really it's either, do nothing and Chloe lives or do nothing in the past and Chloe dies. Chloe is the actual main character, she pushes the plot forward because she wants to find her missing girlfriend. Chloe is really my biggest issue too. She's very manipulative and self center and I get that's the point but just because their goal was to make her a bad person doesn't mean I like her as a character. I need to like Chloe to be invested in the story because Max revolves around Chloe the whole time, Chloe basically starts the entire plot in the first place. But because she's so unlikable I lose investment. Why should I help Chloe, a person who has done nothing but use Max for her own means, takes no responsibility for anything. The scene where Max talks to her clone that tells her how bad of person Chloe is, was completely right. Chloe only ever used Max for her own personal gain and for some reason the writers want me to believe this a good friendship/romance???
I think you forgot this is a game. They chose this way of relation and personality dynamics and story development. Stop judging the game with severe subjectivety that sources from your beliefs, perception and actually evaluate it properly. :)

Ignore them; you're not the only one to find faults in the game. And I agree unless you can connect with the character or put on some red-tinted glasses...you’re not going to like the game.
Also, Racheal is not Chloe’s gf; BTS implies something romantic may have happened, but that's retcon by the first game. Which only means something may have happened. Also, Racheal is manipulative; I doubt she loved Chole that way. She loved Frank and later fell in love with Jefferson.
The healthiest friendship and romantic relationship(s) are in True Colors. Maybe it's the maturity, or perhaps the characters are too codependent.
@@alexwilliams2276 While it's never 100% certain in the first game what happened between Rachel and Chloe, there are some clues out there. I can only think of two people who didn't love/worship Rachel Amber - Victoria Chase and David Madsen. Even Principal Wells was in her corner. Yet, despite that, we only see two, maybe three characters who are actually upset about her disappearance - Chloe, Frank, and, maybe, Nathan.
Frank is someone she claimed to love, but he says in Episode 5 that he never expected it to last. Chloe's the only person we encounter who expected to go with Rachel when she disappeared, or, at least, to hear from her. That could mean that Chloe is just more naive about her, or it could mean that Chloe is the one Rachel actually made promises to.
We do know that Rachel kept secrets from Chloe, and that she was not monogamous, but they were close enough that she had space in Chloe's wardrobe, and that, even after 6 months, Joyce still half-expected Rachel to come downstairs some morning - if Rachel wasn't expected to be in that context, Joyce wouldn't have misidentified Max just based on wearing the same outfit. And even if Rachel could fool Chloe easily, which isn't a given, charming Joyce at the same time would be seriously impressive parent-whispering.
I'm not going to say that Rachel was an angel, but, while we have reason to doubt her commitment to Chloe, we've no reason to question Chloe's attachment to Rachel. From Chloe's side, Rachel was definitely a girlfriend and soul-mate, however Rachel felt about Chloe.
