- This UA-cam Video is about how to replace an RV Roof that is leaking! In the video, we cover all aspects of an RV roof replacement including the best RV roof coating or sealant, RV roof plywood replacement, and even how to find a leak in an RV roof.

There are many RV roof sealants and coatings on the market today but we found the best RV roof coating and it even comes with a 20 year warranty! It's basically never leak RV roofing!
After battling roof leaks in the overcab area of our Class C RV for years we decided to ditch the DIY RV roof repairs and just go ahead and replace our rubber roof. The cost to replace the RV roof was pretty expensive but it included removing the old RV roof, cleaning and prepping all of the roof surfaces, cleaning and replacing the roof vents, replacing the skylight over the shower, replacing rotten plywood, and then spraying the entire roof with polyurea to create a seamless RV roof that will never leak.

It turns out that the same material used to install rubber bed linings in pick up trucks is perfect for new roofs on RVs, motorhomes, 5th wheels, travel trailers, toy haulers, campervans, and even truck campers.

Rv roof install is right in a sense but you just have to weigh the pros vs the cons. Its either do what you did or file it on insurance. I think you made a good decision just a little expensive for me. My wife and I have full coverage on our travel trailer and are having roof leaks as well. May just turn it into insurance and get a new travel trailer. Has it given you any problems since?

I am unaware of any insurance policy that covers maintenance items like roof leaks. Can you keep me posted with your insurance claim if you decide to go that route? I would be very interested to hear if they approve and cover a roof leak claim.

@@RVBlogger My father had a leaky roof on his old camper and turned it into insurance and they gave him 4 grand. He turned around and bought a new camper. I just caulked this exposed part on my camper and if it doesn't fix the leak I'm going to do the same thing my father did!
I worked for a company that applied that similar product. And that guy's prep is 💯! Perfect prep = perfect results. I'm glad you have someone fix your RV

I had my whole roof replaced and all new plywood under. My roof is not flat. It peaks to the center, so rain will run off. Lifetime warranty. Love love love it. Paid 100.00/ft. 3K. Just 3 years ago. Still looks new. & seals are checked 2xs a year. They are holding no issues ! I have to clean it 2xs a year but zero leaks !! Happy Trails

We just bought a 2019 Grand Design Reflection 28bh and the roof is my biggest source of concern.

I had a bed lining in my pickup truck and it was indestructible. I threw concrete, rebar, and all kinds of stuff in there and never hurt the liner coating once. Now if I hit a tree branch I am a lot less worried about a potential leak. This stuff is amazing!

@@JM-nh8yp Yep, I talked with him at the RV show and it was $5k for mine. Has a long life no-leak warranty and is much better than the rubber roofs that you can reinstall. Given the hours of work needed to do this and the no worry roof you get in the end probably worth saving up for one.
@@keithallen3119 Well, I paid $2900 for my 32 foot camper in great condition. So I'm not paying $5000 for a roof. I sealed all my vents with self leveling sealant even though they were still good. Next I'm coating my whole roof with 5 gallons of elastomeric rubberized paint that cost $60. It lasts at least 4-5 years. Sometimes longer. I'll gladly recoat as needed.

One suggestion to Rob ... I’d recommend building up a curb around the AC and some of those other penetrations before spraying and reinstalling to reduce pooling around them. Very common on flat roofs for commercial buildings. RV manufacturer’s don’t do it because the fabric membranes won’t contour... but with a spray on material, he has a lot more freedom for upgrading the surface.

liked the sealing around the front of the roof and liked the note on flex seal not really being up for the job. thanks.
We went a bit overkill on that sealant! 🤦♀️ Flex seal actually does work and may be best for temporary solutions. Turns out our leak was along the front of the over cab seams and not the roof itself. Thanks for watching our RV roof replacement video and commenting!

Hi Mike, I have a 37 ft. Class C diesel toy hauler 2005 with a leaky roof. The previous owner had a roof leak in the cab above the driver seat. I did some spot repairs and bought the gallons of roll-on roof sealer to coat the EPDM as it was getting chalky white and some black base was showing through. Before I could complete the job, parts of Houston, TX had a hail storm - 2 inch sized jagged stones hit the house and motor home. State Farm covered the home shingle roof repair. They are dragging their feet on my motor home claim, saying that the roof was old ( 15 years 2005 to 2019 )and that the EPDM leak issue was not due to the pin hole leaks caused by jagged hail stones. The motor home was parked in my driveway. Naturally, the house roof sustained damage at the same time as the combo EPDM / Lauan decking RV roof. I have CAMPING WORLD near Houston doing the repairs and it has been 6 months since I dropped it off. They and STATE FARM are wrestling over how much will be covered. What a PAIN ! JwgK

Camping World is the worst over priced and they take forever to do work on your rig
Will be interested to see how it holds up after a few years. Truck bed liners are tough, but they don't have to be water tight. The silicon roof coatings are flexible and last for flat roof buildings a very long time. Frankly, there are only a few trailers made with full fiberglass roofs, no seams at all. The only true way to avoid leaks. Thanks for the video.

I had a truck bed liner in an old pickup truck and it was awesome! Never punctured a hole in it after years of abuse. Our roof is over a year old now and no leaks at all! And I've swiped a few tree branches pretty hard too!

Eterna Bond tape worked awesome for my 1995 Ford E350 31 ft Tioga motorhome I had no choice but to use Eterna Bond tape so far so good 🤞🤞 it was not fun replacing the roof and putting all new vents my motorhome was severely neglected for many years I put down a new PVC roof hopefully it'll last for a long time! But love this video great attention to detail! Kind of brought back a lot of nightmares 🤣🤣🤣 👍👍

It cost about $5K. That was for the removal of the old roof, replace some wood and install new roof. The cost may seem a bit high but it fixed our problem so we were thrilled! We went to Pasadena Bed Linings in Glen Burnie MD.

It's great. I had the same stuff in a pickup truck i used to own and the polyurea was indestructible!
I have a Class C that sat in a storage yard for several years and sustained massive water damage in the bed area over the cab. I replaced the wood and tried to re-cover the fiberglass laminate but ended up with dips that just aren't right. I see several newer RV's that have a pre-formed "cap on the front and I would like to know where I would find those? Any help?
We've noticed that some manufacturers ae changing how the front cab is designed but I don't have specific models for you sorry. We'll keep a lookout. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks allot for the video and the great idea RVB. Hopefully the place will still be in business 10-15 years down the road so that the warranty will be valid should an issue arise. Looking at redoing our 32' Class C RV roof myself. A new rubber roof at Camping World is ~$7,000 so this seems like a more affordable option. I have 2 questions. Looks like stripping the old roof and vents and other parts is the time consuming part, so if this was done before delivering the RV, any idea on the savings? Secondly, I'm on the west coast and was wondering if you know any reputable bed lining companies near LA to get this done?

I used to have a pickup truck with the bed lining stuff in it - before people started using it on RV roofs and it was indestructible! I threw concrete with rebar sticking out of it in the bed of my truck and never broke through the polyurea coating!
I don't know where you could get it done on the west coast but if you google bed linings you will find someone that does it. It's pretty mainstream now.

1. Why did he paint the skylight over the shower?
2. What if you need to replace a roof vent or skylight etc? Can that be done and what do you need to do to maintain seal integrity?
3. Did you consider RV Armor? If you did what made you go down this road?
4. With this system are their any ongoing maintenance requirements?

Good questions.
1.We decided to paint over the skylight because they can crack and leak over time. Or if I het a tree branch it would be less likely to crack and break. Light still comes through too. And we have a light in the bathroom anyway.
2. If we need to replace anything on the roof it can be done. But we need to take it back to the roof repair shop so we don't void the 20 year warranty.
3. I didn't consider RV Armor because I wanted a thick spray on product. I had a pickup truck for years with the same bed liner material in black. It was indestructible. I threw concrete with rebar and all kinds of stuff in the bed of the truck and never penetrated it once!
4. No Maintenance requirements.

How much did it cost for the spray on roof?
The entire job...remove old roof coating, replace wood and spray on new roof was just under $5K. We had this done 3 years ago and still no leaks and the roof is still awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Some years ago an Rv repair co in Northern Ca made a vid where they replaced
the rubber roof on a Class C. They said in their vid that rubber roofs need to be
resealed YEARLY and totally replace every 8 years. They said the job they were
doing was going to cost $8,000.00.

You do need to inspect and maintain (clean) your RV roof regularly to avoid other damage but sounds to me that they either aren't apply a permanent solution or want to repeat business. Y’all gotta start the maintenance program on day one when the RV is brand spanking new like I did !
Preparation and a clean roof is the first step secondly go down to your local box store and buy 5 gallons of Elo mastic coating.
It would take three coats and you will put it on either every single year or every other year. If you do this you will never ever ever have to replace your RV roof. If y’all would like to go one step further and have a 50 year warranty you must go to a commercial supply house and get Gayco roofing product

How long has it been since applied, got a review; how’s it look no bubbles no wrinkles no peeling, seems like a pretty good product to use

No bubbles, no wrinkles because it was sprayed right on. I had this same rubber in the bed of an old pick up truck and it was indestructible.
It is the best roof you could possibly install on an RV in my opinion.

Why didn't you address the front fg delamination (bubbling) around the Conquest decal? You should check your clearance marker lights which often leak into that area.

I had this product in the bed of my pickup truck for years and threw concrete, bricks, rebar, metal and all kinds of stuff in there and it never tore, ripped or got punctured. It is awesome stuff!
I did check the lights and caulked them of course. I guess I just didn't mention in the video.

Great question! Skylights are made of very cheap thin plastic and over time they become discolored and hazy. And they can break easily. So we went ahead and sprayed over it so it would never be a leak point even if it cracks. And it still lets a little light through. Plus we have a light in the bathroom.

My leakage was caused by the clearance lights, front and rear.

RVBlogger I’m gonna do it, two white kits on amazon 199$ each.2 kits.398+tax some regular black roofing chimney seal tubes... I’ll try and post a vid off my results. Fixing engine a/c this week. Just drove to Virginia Beach last week. It was to hot. Roof a/c is fine once arrived. Roof next week. Then to Michigan to buy blueberries right from the bush then hit sand dunes and rent a buggy.

We only have one skylight and we did replace it. The flanges were warped pretty badly or I might have kept it since we sprayed over the skylight anyway. No leaks for me!

So they just sprayed the bedliner on the roof and didn't reinstall the rubber roof? So you don't need the rubber roof at all with this set up?

@@filmride3153 It was a plastic or vinyl trim on the corners. I actually think it was a two-piece trim and that's where the leak was coming from. Since we coated the roof we have had ZERO leak issues.

I had the same stuff in my pick up truck bed and it was impenetrable! I threw recycled concrete with rebar sticking out of it in my truck plus all kinds of other metal stuff and never broke through.

I saw the delam on the front of the bunk over the cab. That delam was caused by water leak that is now underneath the fiberglass. That will never dry out unless you pull off the fiberglass and replace all the rotten wood. All of the wet wood underneath will always get moldy. Your guy may stop future leaks but the water that’s already underneath the fiberglass will continue to rot and more mold will continue to grow. If you would like to see the right way to fix it and the right shop to do it go to “rvroof.com “ and check it out. He will have videos of many RV’s but the class c has chronic issues that will get addressed. I Guarantee you will be convinced. Keith fellow RV’er

It could be a DIY project but the prep work to get it ready to coat is extensive. Rob spent a week prepping the roof and 30 minutes applying the rubber coating. Most folks don't have the patience to be this meticulous in their prep work.

Rightly said, a leaking RV roof is a mess and is something that must be fixed immediately. The longer you wait for the more water damage will occur. Identifying roof leaks can be difficult and may over time reoccur. So, why not choose Liquid RV Roof and stop worrying. It is cost effective, easy to apply and it works extremely well on water leaks and punctures.

Why did you cover the sky light?
Hi Mark,
We decided to cover the skylight because it is a major leak point on RV roofs and we are done with leaks. We had a leak in the back corner of the roof right next to the skylight so we decided to be safe and spray right over it. Great question!

There is a little light that comes through the skylight. We have a light in the bathroom so it's plenty bright in there.
I would say depending on how much damage and work needs to be done you are looking at $3-$5k.

Excellent question. We don't want any leaks so now we have a rubber skin over the whole roof! plus light still gets through the skylight and we have a light in the bathroom too. So for us it was more important to have no leaks that a little light if we took a shower during the day.
