Food isn’t like medicine, it is medicine. What we eat is literally transformed into tissue throughout our bodies, creating this vessel that lets us live our lives. When it comes to nutrition and health, people often only think about improving their weight or heart health. But the brain should be one of our top focuses for a long happy life, and there are so many foods we can eat every day with nutrients that specifically support it.
On today’s episode, Dhru talks to our friend Shawn Stevenson about the top foods for brain health and some of the most informative studies on using food as medicine, especially for the brain.
Shawn Stevenson is the author of the international bestselling book Sleep Smarter and creator of The Model Health Show, one of the top health podcasts in the world. A graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Shawn studied business, biology, and nutritional science, and went on to found Advanced Integrative Health Alliance, a company that provides wellness services for individuals and organizations worldwide. Shawn has been featured in Forbes, Fast Company, The New York Times, Muscle & Fitness, ESPN, and many other major media outlets. He is also an in-demand keynote speaker for numerous organizations, universities, and conferences.
In this episode, we dive into:
    - How improving magnesium levels can potentially reverse brain aging (1:06)
    - Dehydration and cognitive decline (12:04)
    - The direct impact of DHA and EPA on brain health (24:37)
    - The best sources of DHA and EPA (30:53)
    - The best foods to support cognition and brain function (44:43)
    - How MCTs can help to improve the condition of Alzheimer’s disease (1:05:53)
    - The biggest drivers of neuroinflammation (1:10:55)
    - How oleocanthal-rich EVOO is able to restore the function of the blood-brain barrier (1:13:34)
    - How industrial seed oils are making us sick (1:20:58)
    - The top three things that are damaging our brain health (1:31:35)

If I had to pick one supplement that has made the biggest difference in my overall health, it would be magnesium. I personally started taking magnesium to help with my sleep, especially when I travel, and it’s been super helpful. But I don’t take just any old magnesium, I take BiOptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough. It contains 7 different forms of magnesium, which all have different functions in the body. I haven’t found anything else like it on the market. Right now, BiOptimizers is offering my community a few special bundles, just head over to magbreakthrough.com/dhru with code DHRU10.

Nutritionists are quite a mixed bag. The ones who caused a doctor who wanted to give his patients better food advice than the nutritionists were giving, was in danger of losing his license for "stepping into their realm". Please, give me a break. Have you ever seen hospital meals? Horrible excuses for good nutrition.
He is the right track, but be wary. You are your own doctor, and your food is your medicine. Famous quote. Every time you eat anything, think about that.

This is why celery juice is so good for the brain (up to 32oz per day). See what @medicalmedium explains about its content of sodium cluster salts, and its hydration is an extra plus! Add magnesium supplements to your daily routine, and always put lemon juice in your water.

    • @versewriter8123
      @versewriter8123 Місяць тому +4

Whilst this is true bear in mind that celery is very high in oxalates which many people are unable to metabolise. In such cases they combine with calcium in the diet & form very sharp crystals that then lodge in organs & joints causing pain & illness. Sally Norton is the greatest educator in this subject.

A year ago I was diagnosed with hypertension and put on medication and told to cut salt. I didn’t realize how much salt is in EVERYTHING. So, I am an all or nothing kind of person. I like to go all in when I try a new diet or if I’m cutting something out that I think is bad. So I cut as much salt as I could from my diet and I literally thought I was going to die. I was having heart palpitations every day and I was so weak and was having dizzy spells. I started taking magnesium and coQ10 and even started the Super Gut yogurt protocol. All with little change in way of heart palpitations. I had watched a video on the importance of sodium in the diet and figured I’d give it a try. Starting adding Redmond’s to my food and taking LMNT everyday and the heart palpitations have almost ceased. Occasionally I will feel a little flutter but nothing like before. And my energy is better and I experience less headaches and brain fog all in a matter of weeks.

Throwing out baby with the bath water - comes from the actual times when the whole family would bathe in same tub. First, the largest members of family went (typically, men), then, smaller, and smaller yet. By the time it got to baby - water was so dirty that you couldn’t see the baby. Coffee* When I was around 5 or so, my mom would take my brother and I to grocery store. When I stayed by her side there was a reason - when she'd freak out because I'd disappeared she'd find me sitting under where the coffee grinder was. So I was told - in those day's she trusted where I was - where the aroma was most delicious in the whole store. I must have intuitively known how good it was. Although I very rarely had a cup until way later in twenties when playing music in coffee houses. Then it was free to me and of course my addiction had many great side effects. Now with many memories behind me - when I have my coffee - it always brings on those happy social coffee moods. Important when you are alone a lot. Blessings to you guys for informing us of all the goods we do have here on planet everything around and under the sun. Fun fact: 100+ years ago poorer families only had a few baths a year. The man of the house would get first dibs. Then the women. Then the children. Then the babies. By the time the last baby got to the bath, the water would be so dark and dirty, it could be hard to see him or her. Hence, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Yeah the processed drinks, food, meat, high intake of dairy products, white sugar n flour products, etc creates more of acidic environment in the body, Im not sure where exactly in the body ( blood or tissues or both. But maybe in the blood). Any ways, it causes the body to draw the calcium out of the bones to help balance the blood, keep it more on the alkaline side like 7.35 to 7.4 for you to stay or feel normal and safe. Otherwise youll get severely ill and go into comma from keto acidosis. Calcium is an alkaline mineral.
Overtime, if the persons eating lifestyle is chronically high intake of all theses stuff the bones will end up brittle from constant leaching of the calcium from the bones to keep the body in a normal state.
Eat wholefood both plant, veggies, fruits and meat. Less on meat high in low carb veggies which basically are greens etc.
Most veggies are alkalizing specially the low carb veggies ie leafys. But cant go too much wrong eating food from its original form: veggies, fruits, organic meats if theres anymore at all. So impossible to get them from trusted places.
      Anyway hope this helps.
Table or white sugar causes acidity in the body. Its pure acid!
If you eat fruits or veggies that has glucose in it, at least it has fiber plus a whole mixture of other minerals and vitamins to go along.
Eat to live. Not so much live to eat right. Lol

Seriously can’t believe i am actually hearing this because that’s exactly what i do every day. We have an osmoses water system so we have to add minerals to our water. I have 3 different salts at home, Himalayan, Celtic Salt, and Redmond Salt. I mixed all 3 together because after studying what minerals each had it made sense to mix them because what one lacks the other one has. I keep a container of it on my kitchen counter and add it to our drinking water, food etc.
As the guy said i do the same, first thing in the morning when i get up i drink a tall glass of water with my Aussie Trace Minerals and lemon juice. This is before i have my morning coffee and my breakfast. I have a big container of my drinking water with lemon and i add the electrolytes to it with my other stuff like Boron and liquid Silica.
After breakfast i drink my vitamins with my lemon water concoction. I don’t like to overdo the drinking too much though because first i don’t want to spend the day in the bathroom and also drinking too much water will actually flush out lot of the vitamins i just took, so everything in measure.

What's the fact that things have different boiling points we can use to our advantage and reduce our workload 5:45 yeah that's why you need the nitrates from the fish in the aquaponic units to support the plant growth 7:27 the cardiologist was checking on us because I didn't mention that one being a primary care physician and being a pharmacist you would need to study in both fields of relativity of biology and it actually works out being your entire central nervous system and that obviously needs your entire additional anatomy of support 9:09 yeah if I was trying to prank someone that I had received my degree in a field online I would change it to the department verbiage but it's actually my brother's cardiologist that's dealing with his care without releasing information 11:26 yes just like conduit in the healthcare network of program coordinators relative to social workers

As a healthcare professional I’m in a unique position to see how restrictive and narrow minded modern medicine is… medicine NOT physiology. So I broadened my research to include more of a dietary biochemistry focus… we’re missing a lot in management of these long Covid patients.

1:23:14 "My body is different from somebody else's." I've known this all my life. Decades ago, I quit using pharma medicine, now I use what nature provides. I've had bad, even extreme reactions to virtually every one I'd ever taken. During that time, I also quit going to doctors as well, finding them fairly useless. As a highly educated toxicologist, I discovered that many of them know virtually nothing about the functions of the human body. Indeed, many of their tests are useless, measuring things in the wrong locations or in an inappropriate way. And lately I've discovered they are missing an entire field of toxicity from molds, fungus & parasites that produce toxins in our bodies. Doctors are oblivious to this because they are taught that only 3rd world countries have these issues. Yet all of our animals get parasites, & we surely get parasites from them, as well as many other sources.
