- This is my first wheel bearing I have replaced. Plenty of troubleshooting and fumbling. I think it is worth the watch to show when and why it is a good idea to replace your wheel bearing. I am an enthusiast and hope this video will be helpful for you. If this work is outside your comfort level hiring a mechanic is always an option. If you do, now at least you will have a better idea of what may need replacing before making a call.
If you are looking for a more efficient video to help you replace your own wheel bearing check out my front passenger side bearing. This one went much smoother.

Great video. I was just checking the wheel bearings on my 95 pathfinder thinking what a bother they were going to be. It doesn't look as bad as I was expecting.
Thanks Old Man Gamer!
Let me know how installing new wheels bearings and races goes for you.
I also did the passenger side bearing / races with a bit more practice and some helpful additional tools.

Just thought I would mention 23 seconds into the video. It looks like your CV axle boot and most likely CV axle is bad. Have a good day.
Thanks Jeff, yup on my to do list. 😊
Good video, thanks. Have bearings to do on my Patrol and looks like a similar setup.
You got it! 🙂

Your welcome!
Happy repairs. 🙂
I'm doing the same thing but I'm having trouble getting the hub back up on the shaft correctly because I got the inner bearing on and I'm not sure if interview today supposed to go all the way down to the knuckle or just to the first notch because my hub is not fitting on correctly and I cannot get the nut on it right can anybody help me?
Good question Harley,
I am a enthusiast so others may have better advice with your hub. If you feel uncomfortable hiring a pro is always an option.
Are you repacking the bearings or replacing and packing the berrings?
When I did this drivers side bearing I purchased new races and bearings. I rented a free one day rental race setting tool kit from O'reilly's auto parts. I guess many auto part stores also offer free rentals with a purchase of related parts. The race setting tool is aluminum and won't dent the races. You do have to bang it a number of times. You can tell when the race is all the way in and the sound of the tool changes when set. I suspect if your races are not completely set your hub will not fit correctly.
Sometimes Rotating or wiggleing the hub as you push in can help the hub set.
Make sure no unwanted pebbles small parts got into the berring assembly.
It is important to pay attention to the order the parts were removed. You can stage the parts in a line to help remember the order when you reassemble.
The drivers side bearings took some time and plenty of trouble shooting. The passenger side was much easier. The more you do the easier it gets. If I replace these bearings in another 10 years I will probably have to watch my video to help me remember!?! 😆
I recomend watch multiple videos on the repair. One person's video may give you the tip you need.
This is my video on the passenger side berring replacement.

Let me know how it goes.
You do not have to Remove the brake caliper bracket you can use a screwdriver to wedge in between the bracket and the rotor and remove those five bolts easily
Cool!
Thanks for the heads up Brian.
@@jonathanreinke9392 You are welcome amigo anytime I can make a job easier for someone I try to give some input.
I just replaced my bearings, but not the races. I'm not sure I put things back together right, because I hear a clicking sound when I drive now. Any advice or insight into that? I'm going to go back in and replace the races as well.
Hey M J,
I believe the races and bearings both wear. I am not sure if they wear evenly? I think if there is play in your front wheels it is best to replace both. If your bearings / races are not that bad you can always repack the bearings to get a bit of extra life ... but it is not much more work / money to just get new parts for both and then you are good for awhile.
I am not sure on the clicking. I have heard a bunch of good advice on tightening the outer bearing nut. Some say make a pen mark and count the turns others say tourque to 50- 80 ft pounds then back off and go to 13 ft pounds. There is a tool / nut for this and that would be nice for this repair.
What I liked was to tighten it as much as I could then back off and retighten untill the hub spun without too much resistance.
I am not sure why there is clicking? Does it sound like it is comming from inside the hub? Is there a chance something got inside?
When I did mine it did seem possible for the bearring and or race to not seat square. I recomend paying close attention to make sure the seating is even and tightened the right amount.
I also made a video of the passeanger side bearring and race. Might give you a hint on how to fix the clicking?

Best of luck on the repair.
@@jonathanreinke9392 Thanks for the reply! I also realized I didn't pack the bearing like you did, so when I open it up today I'll do that. You might be right about the tightness, we noticed the wheel didn't spin freely once it was back together. I only took it around the block so hopefully no damage was done. Hopefully after today, I have good news to report! Thanks for the video, it's very helpful to have as a reference
You got it M J! 🙂
You need to get new bearings and put new bears in if there is any kinda rough places on the bears or you will be back there doing it again in very short time and if they look burnt you need new bearings
Good call Dean, I replaced the races and bearings on the passenger and drivers side. It drives much straighter / more steady now. 🙂
Is this the same process to do a Nissan navara d22
I just looked at the Narvana. Cool truck / SUV!
This is a newer gen vehicle so I would guess some or many of the specific parts are not the same. My video my be helpful to do it yourself for your Narvara.
I recomend putting down a towl and as you take the parts off clean the parts and put them on the towl. Place them in order as they were removed. This will help to put them back in the right order and help with remembering on how to put it back together.
If you find in the middle of the repair you do not have the correct tool. I recomended if you can to purchase or rent any needed tools go for it. My passenger side was easyer and more fun with the correct tools.
Happy Repairs!
16:27 Do you think the NAPA store may have a special socket for that part so that you don't have to use a hex wrench?
That would be cool if they do. Tapping a flat head screwdriver with a hammer worked beter ... but I felt a little funny doing it. 😄
Another way to do that kind of nut is to drill holes in a couple of pieces of flatbar 12" to 16" long and maybe 1" wide. You put a bolt to hold the 2 flatbars in an adjustable V and put a bolt in the other end held with a nut to go into each of those larger holes. Just by looking at the video I'd say you'd probably need 3/8 bolts by maybe an inch long.
Put a couple of 1/4" holes too and you've got a pretty universal tool for those pin nuts.
Did you ever found out what was making the squeaking noise?
Not yet! 😄
But it is rair now and only does it sometimes durring start up.
When a car is making a noise is shouldn't, thats bad. When it stops making noise jusy because ... 😆😅😊
