      Back in the day! haha Yeah I love it too. It's odd to think this is 35 years ago and 35 years prior 1985 was 1950 the music in the 40s and early 50s compared to the 80s sounds further apart than music from 85 does today I think primarily because of technology. Synthesis hasn't changed that much from the 80s nor has sampling other than better converters and more sampling time. And many current musicians have a trove of vintage synths as well so they are still being used.

    • @SeanGrantstormpinball
      @SeanGrantstormpinball 4 роки тому +6

      @@stevetici2668 I totally agree! They went on to make a great album called Memorial Beach years later in '93. The songs Memorial Beach and Angel in the Snow were standouts on that one. Their sound changed to less synth, more guitar and more mellow, less pop. It seemed like they were influenced by how U2 was sounding then.
      There are some great heavy metal covers of the Sun Always Shines on TV that work well. Train of Thought, Blue Sky, Love is Reason and Dream Myself Alive were great songs from their first album as well.
      Thanks for defending them! There are plenty of one hit wonders out there, but there are also plenty of great bands that had lots of hits and long careers which are definitely NOT one hit wonders, and are mislabeled.as such. I'm going to put a video on my channel challenging the one-hit wonder status of many bands. What groups outside of a-ha would you suggest? I would nominate Devo (Whip It), and Wall of Voodoo (Mexican Radio), but I know its not just 80's bands.

    • @carag2567
      @carag2567 4 роки тому +5

      @@stevetici2668 Maybe you misunderstood me. I didn't say that a-ha was a one hit wonder entirely. They were and still are massively popular in Norway and across Europe despite having broken up and reuniting. However, they absolutely were a one hit wonder in the United States. Take On Me stayed in the #1 spot on Billboard for 27 weeks in 1985/86. For over six months, it was the most successfully performing song in the U.S. Only two of their other singles ever entered the top 100 in the United States - Sun Always Shines on TV, reaching #20 in February of 1986 while Take on Me was still tightly grasping the #1 spot, and Cry Wolf, whose highest chart position was #50.
      This band has quite an extensive and prolific catalog that, IMO, is largely underappreciated by Americans, which is part of what prompted my initial comment. I think just the fact that Take On Me is so complex and technically difficult is evidence of their skilled musicianship, with its syncopated percussive sections and four octave chorus. Like I said it's a masterpiece! 😀👍

    The year was 1984. The sound of my childhood. You are in the presence of greatness - a song doesn't rack up 1 billion views for no reason. Probably the most famous riff ever created. A Norwegian band, so English not even their first language. Morton (lead singer) and Mags (on keyboard), two of the hottest men in popular music. They both STILL look amazing. The band is touring this year! The very lucky British girl in this video ended up dating Morton for several years afterwards.

      If you talk about A-HA. Then their name is Morten, Magne and Pål. The letter å (in Pål) is pronounced the same way as o in LOndon .... and also the same as the o in Morten.
      So here å=o.
      Magne has the same pronunciation as in magne(tic). My name is also Magne - but don't call me Mags.

    Yes, 80s my friend.
    One of my favorites! It's a great song but there's also an excellent story on the video that you watched. It's kinda hard to follow but by the end of the music video, you'll get it. You should re-watch the video bro and watch the story behind the video. You'll like it.
    The graphics in this video were groundbreaking and something us oldies back in the 80s, never saw before. This was extremely high tech. I remember coming home from school and watching it on MTV. Everybody was talking about at school lol.......... good times, great memories.

    This song is an 80s icon. How can you just now be hearing it 30something years later??

      Because they are only 21 and they listened to nothing but rap. I think their parents did not listen to Pop or Rock. They do not even know Black music from the 80s, and nothing about the 70s or before, and this is not as unusual as you think. The only reason my kids know a lot of this music is because I played music all the time from different eras and genres. Think about it, how much music do you know that was popular before you were born? Buddy Holly and Little Richie Valens died when I was just a little girl (mid 50s) and I did not start listening to them until decades later.

      @@hooleyqueen I grew up listening to 50s and 60s lol. I was the only kid in 3rd grade listening to 80s music (in the early 90s). I guess thats why I'm shocked...

    I'm absolutely in love with how open minded you and your brother are. You can learn and feel so much from music. Love your reaction videos! Especially to older music. I grew up on 70s-90s so a lot of your reactions to classics make me extremely happy to see a new generation have such appreciation for them.

    This is what was once called a "One Hit Wonder: A group that produced one good song, but filled an entire CD full of songs that you never heard on the radio." There were several of these in the 80s. "Come On Eileen" was one of the most popular of these songs. - BTW, I've really enjoyed re-listening to these songs with your honest/respectful reactions. Thanks!
