I don't need to remind you this was before there was Auto Tune so this is all his vocals on this song. This is when you had to be a real singer to be able to sing.
the video is from 1985, the drawings were made by pencil by scratch, it was awarded video of the year on MtV and it's so unique that still in 2020 it's amazing, I'm so proud I was a teen back in the 80d
This song came out in 1985. It was in heavy rotation on MTV back when MTV actually played videos all day every day. I was 14 years old in USA and this song was everywhere. It also won all the MTV awards because that video was some amazing stuff for 1985! Its held up pretty well! You seemed a bit confused watching it. It starts out she's in a diner reading a comic book, our hero is in a motorcycle race with some guys. Our hero wins, she is in the diner with the comic book smiling because he won and he reaches a hand out to her and pulls her into the comic book world with him. Meanwhile the waitress at the diner thinks the girl left without paying her bill and in anger takes the comic book and throws it away. In the comic book the guys from the race are still mad they lost and come for our hero with wrenches. Our hero and the girl run to get out but only she can escape. When she gets out of the comic book she of course is dirty next to the trash can where the book was thrown into. She grabs the book hurries home and opens the page to see they've attacked him and he's lying on the ground. She cries for him and a teardrop falls on his picture in the book and brings him back to life. She watches him struggle to break free of the comic book to get into her world with her to live happily ever after in their very own brand new comic book series! That was exhausting. But I hope it clears it up. Love your reactions...and your accents!😉
A-ha is from Norway and the song was originally released in 1984. It was one of the biggest hits of the 80s and the video revolutionary back in early days of MTV. Singer is Morten Harket and he is rumoured to have five octave vocal range. When one Finnish artist and composer told him a couple of years ago that he has one of the best voices in the business, Harket just replied: "Yes, I know".
He told that privately to this other artist who then told about it in an interview. But it was all in good humour, I guess Harket is a shy introvert who felt awkward when someone idolized him.
Mikael Peltonen I really doubt that Morten did say that...in interviews he has consistently played down both his exceptional good looks and his incredible vocal range..in fact he gets a bit embarrassed about the praise.
I know the person who spoke to Harket is very trustworthy. However, the line is taken out of context. Most likely Harket was just embarrassed by the compliment and wanted to change subject.
I remember when this video made its world premiere on MTV, back in the days when the channel actually played music videos. This was released in 1985 & I was just 18 yrs old... This was in the early days of computer graphics being used in videos. CGI animation was in its infancy. This was a groundbreaking video, as we had never seen anything like it. 35 years later and it still holds up to today's technology even though it is so simplistic. Another prime example of this would be Dire Straits' "Money for nothing" official video. :-)
Nancy Berry Well actually it was done by taking each frame from a filming of real people and putting each frame on a projection TV like screen, and placing a kind of tracing paper over the screen. The artist tracing the images to give the cartoon characters realistic lifelike movements.
one of the most underrated yet brilliant bands of all time. their music will blow you away, if you give it time to grow on you. it will last a lifetime. even both my teen boys love them alot. A-ha's songs are top of their playlists.
These fellas are from Norway. The singers' name is Morten Harket, and they still perform nowadays and sound virtually the same. Morten still hits that high note with relative ease. He is a great singer, there is no doubt.
A-ha is a Norwegian band, and this is one of the most favorite and iconic music videos of the 1980s. Real music will beat out autotuned music any day. Just goes to show you, don't settle for something just because it's new. Even the remakes don't hold a candle to the quality of real music that is a little older. Can you feel it? When it comes to music, always choose quality and you will always be amazed and delighted.
If the video is out of this world in the year 2020, imagine how we thought of it when we first saw it new in the 80's. It's brilliant, and it stands the test of time. It's not the cops that are chasing them, it's the motorbike racers that lost the race at the start of the video.
They're Norwegian! Which is why the grammar in the lyrics is a bit off, but that makes them sort of poetic, you think? I believe this was their big international hit, but they were a pretty long-lived band. They did a theme for one of the Bond movies, The Living Daylights. Their video for "The Sun Always Shines on TV" is sort of a sequel to this one, if you want to find out how the couple ends up.
this video was ground breaking back in the day no other bands or singers had thought of any of this ,was a award winning m,tv video at the time ,it raised the video bar
One of the best music videos of all times. Way ahead of it times and the song and singer, top notch. This is by the way, has been my ring tone for over 7 years
All the way from Norway believe it or not, & saw in when it came out, I was a mere teenager (don't ask my age now!!). Really loved it, & definately amazing to see. xx
A-ha is Norwegian band from Norway. Morton Harkett is Norwegian with his handsome Nordic good looks and magnificent voice. This video played frequently in 1985 on MTV back in the day when MTV played talented real music videos.
They’re on a massive world tour at the moment selling out all over the world still including LA. fantastic live still . morten the singer in his 60s and still hitting it.... so proud of them all their amazing music over the 35 years. They hold the record for largest paying crowd at a gig still of 200 thousand in one crowd wow!
June Giovanna They were in the middle of their year long world tour but had to suspend it because of the pandemic. Hopefully they will resume the rest of it at a later date.
Trivia: This song was inspired by "Also Sprach Zarathustra", better known as the theme of _2001: A Space Odyssey_ . You know those famous three rising notes, right? Everyone does. The same notes are used for the chorus of _Take On Me_ , when he actually sings the lyrics "Take on me". :)
A-ha are from Oslo, Norway; still spectacular!! The video itself took a LOT OF HARD WORK into it. Morten Harket is the singer. They were a group of 3 at first but continued WORLDWIDE!!!!!
Fans can still go to that cafe in London ... but they’re from Norway , they made their name over here in the Uk though but became internationally massive
If you like that, check out their unplugged version from I think 2017... there is an emotional weight there. Also the song The Sun Always Shines On TV is kind of a video sequel
they are Norwegian , I’ve been a fan of them since I was 12 I’m now 47, the singer is now 60 years old and can still hit that note, you guys jus missed them, they had shows in England recently. You have a new subscriber if you keep reacting to a-ha, take on me now has over a billion views
The two chasing them are the guys who lost to him in the race in the beginning. Norwegian band, Irish-born British director. Pretty sure it was shot somewhere in the UK.
A-ha are a Norwegian band, the lead singer's name (no, not Patrick Swayze!) Is Morten Harket and to my mind, this video stands up against anything produced before or since. It's hit 1 billion views now
The two men that were chasing the lead singer and the girl were from the race in the beginning. When the waitress crumpled up the comic book and threw it in the trash can that's when the storylines crossed over and their worlds collided.
The storyline is that the main guy/lead singer won a motorcycle race at the beginning (all the stuff during the instrumental intro) and wasn't supposed to win. And the guys chasing him and the leading lady were guys intent on taking him out for winning. That's what I've always thought, anyway. If Michael Jackson's Thriller didn't exist, this would've been the hands down BIGGEST video of the 80s.
My favourite song and the first 7" single I bought. It took 6 months for two artists to hand draw the pencil lines (with no computer!) over each film cell printed out as a full page size. The magic frame sections were cut out with a craft knife to let the original video image through. Their second hit single "The Sun Always Shines on TV" starts immediately after this video stops. When a-ha broke up for a few years in 2010, the same video team made "Butterfly, Butterfly" with references to 30 years+ of their previous videos. Also check out Hunting High and Low!
Remarkably well, indeed. The animation breathes because it was done by hand. Note to millie's and zee'ers, try to replicate this with a mouse. Not fair, but still...somebody give it a shot.
I remember when i heard this on the radio in the sommer 1985 here in Oslo Norway when i was 15 before it was a hit, and thinking this is BIG there are going to bi big, and so they whent to london made this video for 12.000 usd that was a lot of money then, and they blow up. so great. even saw them in concert here at home 1986 and on a misic festival in Danmark 2000 they still make music. listen to Spanish steps the singer is Morten Harket from oslo. and he van still hit high notes and falsettos!
I think he does 4 octaves. Also thus guy held the longest recorded note in a song in all of history. I just read that today. And, then I come over here and you guys are reacting to him. These guy recorded this over 20 years ago. But they have been recording albums ever since sometimes more than one album a year.
At the beginning it’s a race and the two men are upset for losing. The head singer’s name is Morten Harket. The second single is The Sun Always Shines on TV, which at the beginning continues a brief by ending to the story of the Take on Me video.
Even though I've probably heard this song thousands of times, I actually like The Sun Always Shines on TV even more. I didn't realize the official video ends this video, gonna have to check that out :)
I'm a huge fan of them since i was 11, i'm 45 now. I was and still stunning about the lead vocal Morten Harket and the band is still on tour all around the world. They are more than #takeonme and they are amazing on stage ❤️ So if you want to hear more about them take a look to their youtube channel as @a-ha of course. Thanks for remind me my own reaction about this iconic vid 🙏💕
In MY opinion one of the best videos EVER and hey it's from the 1980"s!!!!! Check out every decade, Tommy James, and the Shondells, Crimson and Clover. LOVE his voice!!!
The next a-ha song good to do would be their follow up single - 'The Sun Always Shines on TV'- the video sort of carries on from where Take On Me left off. I've seen a-ha twice in the last couple of months on tour, they are fantastic! Morten Harket can still hit those high notes!
Great reaction. This was amazing when it first came out, we were just as mesmerised as you guys!! This was very much ahead of its time. Brilliant post.
A-ha is a Norwegian group. The lead singer (and star of the video) is Morten Harket (look him up, he’s barely aged!!). The “bad guys” attacking the couple were the losers of the motorcycle race at the start of the vid.
I remember being 14y old and I was in hospital because of asthma, and I had tickets to Ah-a consert. And my biggest concern was that I couldn't go. Long story short, I did go and my crush at that time held me while we watched the consert. So nice story, right.!?
Hi @BrosReact0151 , The gist of the story is.. There is a Motorbike and sidecar race at the start.. Morten Harket's (the awesome singer) character, and his partner win it, the other two blokes are not happy, they are not the police, they are racers.. So they come after him.. The poor girl is caught up in the middle of it.. Great reaction to A-Ha though, loved your appreciation of his very amazing vocals.. A-Ha are amazing and still singing live even now.. There is a slower version 'acoustic' of a-Ha singing 'Take On Me'.. It is brilliant too..The video itself was ground breaking and the first of it's kind to use animations mixed with live action.. Best wishes to you both from Wales..
The hallway scene where the singer is slamming the walls, was taken from the movie Altered States, where quantum reality is running amok, and the main character is using pain to focus, bringing himself back to reality so he can save the woman he loves.
These guys are Norwegian, but an American producer found them in Europe and brought them to a another writer and music video producer and he produced them. Two were blond and played keyboards and there are two keyboards playing at the same time.
I was just going to comment the same. Awesome vids from the 80s, this and Sledgehammer. You couldn't take your eyes off the screen. My kids loved it too, 20 years later haha ua-cam.com/video/OJWJE0x7T4Q/v-deo.html
The bad guys in the video weren't cops. :) Remember from the very beginning of the video? These were the guys chasing Our Hero on motorcycles. They found him while he was chatting up the girl and attacked. They're just basically bad guys to give it some action/drama.
Aye, the motorbike and sidecar race at the beginning of the video shows the "bad guys" losing the race to Morten etc (Bad guys wearing number 13 on their helmets).
Buddies! Cops don’t come after someone with a big ass wrench, and the #13 on the guys headgear was from the very beginning, those two guys after him lost the motorcycle race to him at the start of the video. Keep safe and blessed!

come on guys you need to react to more a-ha. if you love the vocals then there is way more to enjoy from a-ha.
The Band A-Ha is from Norway
Excellent REACTION to one of my favourite videos of all time!!
His name is Morten Harket, amazing voice.
They are from Norway. They are a great band.Checkout their album Scoundrel Days, it's one of their best.

He told that privately to this other artist who then told about it in an interview. But it was all in good humour, I guess Harket is a shy introvert who felt awkward when someone idolized him.
He is a very shy and humble and human man, a real human being with lots of projects to help poor people and the environment
Mikael Peltonen I really doubt that Morten did say that...in interviews he has consistently played down both his exceptional good looks and his incredible vocal range..in fact he gets a bit embarrassed about the praise.

This was the perfect joining of a great catchy song to a creative new video. Either one would have been highly memorable, but both together? Immortal.

A-ha lead singer is Morten Harket
They are from Oslo, Norway... formed in 1981 or 1982
One of the best music videos of all times. Way ahead of it times and the song and singer, top notch. This is by the way, has been my ring tone for over 7 years

Likewise here! 👍
"The Sun Always Shines on T.V." is the follow up to this music video
A-ha is Norwegian band from Norway.
Morton Harkett is Norwegian with his handsome Nordic good looks and magnificent voice.
This video played frequently in 1985 on MTV back in the day when MTV played talented real music videos.
this was a massive hit back in the days when MTV was all about music
When MTV were good.....
Morten the singer holds the world record for the longest note ever held at a live performance. Check out ‘Summer moved on ‘ 2000
This was MTV at it's peak... when they actually played music videos, and artist videos were creative.
This was the most memorable one for me.
They’re on a massive world tour at the moment selling out all over the world still including LA. fantastic live still . morten the singer in his 60s and still hitting it.... so proud of them all their amazing music over the 35 years.

A ha - Hunting High and Low. A ha - The Sun always Shines on TV. Two classic songs from A Ha. Also, A Ha - Crying in the Rain
You HAVE to check out a-ha’s The Sun Always Shines On TV!!! It’s a sequel to Take On Me!
This has good visual effects, especially for being made in 1985
Definitely great effect for the time it was released. Seems like a video done from this time where in
Fans can still go to that cafe in London ... but they’re from Norway , they made their name over here in the Uk though but became internationally massive
2:59 and this is back in the early 80s so it's all hand drawn. As an animator myself this video holds a special place in my heart.
This won the video of the year it was created. It's still considered one of the top video's of that era.
It typically comes in as the number 2 video of all time, just behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller".
If you like that, check out their unplugged version from I think 2017... there is an emotional weight there. Also the song The Sun Always Shines On TV is kind of a video sequel
Norwegian band.
The video is probably the epitome of the '80s and MTV,
I remember watching this video during its original run on MTV. It was a game changer. Great pop song with an even better video.
they are Norwegian , I’ve been a fan of them since I was 12 I’m now 47, the singer is now 60 years old and can still hit that note, you guys jus missed them, they had shows in England recently. You have a new subscriber if you keep reacting to a-ha, take on me now has over a billion views
Great reaction Lars. I remember when this song first came out it was wow in the 80s and its still wow now its my fave A-ha song
The two chasing them are the guys who lost to him in the race in the beginning.
Norwegian band, Irish-born British director. Pretty sure it was shot somewhere in the UK.
My favourite 80s video! The main singer is Morten Harket, and the other 2 band members are Magne Furuholmen & Pau Waaktaar-Savoy. From Norway
Thank you for the info.
These are really good
Awesome video guys! I KNEW he looked like Patrick Swayze!
A-ha are a Norwegian band, the lead singer's name (no, not Patrick Swayze!) Is Morten Harket and to my mind, this video stands up against anything produced before or since. It's hit 1 billion views now
Video released in 1985. A-ha is a band from Norway
That is an old school animation style called Rotoscope. You take live action video of actors and then animate over it. Make the movement life like.
Love your reaction. So true. This is a great song.
This was one of the best music video of the 1980’s.
The two men that were chasing the lead singer and the girl were from the race in the beginning. When the waitress crumpled up the comic book and threw it in the trash can that's when the storylines crossed over and their worlds collided.

If Michael Jackson's Thriller didn't exist, this would've been the hands down BIGGEST video of the 80s.
Might still be my favorite music video. Perfect video and perfectly matched to a song
THE most-watched video on MYV ever :)
It's not the police, it's the motorcycle rival team, pissed that they lost the race.
This song IS the 80’s, another one would be 99 red balloons, the beat just takes you back.
NO computer graphics. All sketched by hand. RECOGNIZE!
This video was iconic for its time and it still holds up very well today.
Remarkably well, indeed. The animation breathes because it was done by hand. Note to millie's and zee'ers, try to replicate this with a mouse. Not fair, but still...somebody give it a shot.
This video was a big deal when it came out. That effect was revolutionary then.

OMG really? Had no idea of that...I'm gonna check that out! 😊 thank you
Even though I've probably heard this song thousands of times, I actually like The Sun Always Shines on TV even more. I didn't realize the official video ends this video, gonna have to check that out :)
All these years later, this remains the best video ever made!
I'm a huge fan of them since i was 11, i'm 45 now. I was and still stunning about the lead vocal Morten Harket and the band is still on tour all around the world. They are more than #takeonme and they are amazing on stage ❤️
So if you want to hear more about them take a look to their youtube channel as @a-ha of course.
Thanks for remind me my own reaction about this iconic vid 🙏💕
In MY opinion one of the best videos EVER and hey it's from the 1980"s!!!!! Check out every decade, Tommy James, and the Shondells, Crimson and Clover. LOVE his voice!!!
Many girls had a crush on that singer back then. Myself included
And many a boy lol
Little Mrs and we still do
The next a-ha song good to do would be their follow up single - 'The Sun Always Shines on TV'- the video sort of carries on from where Take On Me left off. I've seen a-ha twice in the last couple of months on tour, they are fantastic! Morten Harket can still hit those high notes!
Great reaction. This was amazing when it first came out, we were just as mesmerised as you guys!! This was very much ahead of its time. Brilliant post.
Kudos also to the record producer Alan Tarney! Try 'The Sun Always Shines on TV' and 'Train of Thought' by A-ha
This song IS the 80's
A-ha is a Norwegian group. The lead singer (and star of the video) is Morten Harket (look him up, he’s barely aged!!). The “bad guys” attacking the couple were the losers of the motorcycle race at the start of the vid.
Amen on him aging well, good grief. Face is same and hair for most part. Just a bit leathery skin is all. NUTZ! 95% of us wish we had aged that well.
A-ha is a band from Norway. They are not British
Each frame of the video was hand drawn. They are an Oslo band from the 80s. This video was made in 1985 before computer graphics.
Not just a band from the 80s. They're still together. :)
Check out Summer Moved On. I still see them in concert most years!
The hallway scene where the singer is slamming the walls, was taken from the movie Altered States, where quantum reality is running amok, and the main character is using pain to focus, bringing himself back to reality so he can save the woman he loves.
I was just posting that. South Park did that too.
Their next hit was The Sun Always Shines on TV, and is well worth a listen. Also, the MTV Unplugged version of Take on Me is hauntingly beautiful.
The lead singer , Morton Harkett is I believe 60 years old now !
I'm 62. I remember when this song came out. I was living in NYC at the time and taking drum lessons. Reminds me of happier times.
Ta lads, this video. The song was 1986 and we were blown away when it came out, the song was fantastic. The video was freaking immense at the time x
The Sun Always Shine on TV... is the sequel... very good song
These guys are Norwegian, but an American producer found them in Europe and brought them to a another writer and music video producer and he produced them. Two were blond and played keyboards and there are two keyboards playing at the same time.
Absolute M A S T E R P I E C E 👏
He is so unique looking... to this day mortem is so unique looking and sounding
I wonder if these guys have reviewed A-Ha's song "Living Daylights" that was the theme-song for the James Bond movie "Living Daylights"?
Your reaction is the same I had watching for the 1st time in 1985! This video is phenomenon, incredible & ground breaking, especially for 1985!! 👍📺
Check out The Sun Always Shines on TV from... a-ha
The Sun Always Shines On TV
Music from back in the day is always legendary.. Unlike trash nowadays... Just noise pollution
Those guys weren't the police, they were the bicycle motorist who lost the race and they were angry.
Excellent video my dudes,i am happy really happy!please do a react on either train of thought or sun always shine on tv :D
A-ha's "Take on Me" video is only the 3rd. video in UA-cam history to have over 1 Billion views.
For pre-millennium vids, yes. Actually 4th. The other three were November Rain, Smells Like Teen Spirit and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Howdy from Austin, TX (USA). Love both of your reactions to this video/song. Priceless. Keep up with the good vids.
One of the greatest songs and music videos ever
One of the best songs of the 80’s

I was just going to comment the same. Awesome vids from the 80s, this and Sledgehammer. You couldn't take your eyes off the screen. My kids loved it too, 20 years later haha

This video was entirely ground breaking, way before CGI.
"manhatten skyline" is a remarkable song "sun always shines on tv" is also cool
Sun always shines was their next follow on hit but they still tour today and as you say they are next level and he hits the notes everytime!
I'm interested to know where they live that cops run around chasing people with wrenches for not paying for their food lol
The gorgeous Morton Harket
Buddies! Cops don’t come after someone with a big ass wrench, and the #13 on the guys headgear was from the very beginning, those two guys after him lost the motorcycle race to him at the start of the video. Keep safe and blessed!
Maybe the cops in their neighborhood do
