    1978. A child who had watched Lost in Space and Star Trek on a black and white small TV goes to the theater. His jaw already dropped in the first scene of the corellian corvette and now there was the incredible roar of engines preparing for take off. One of the most defining moments in my life. Words cannot describe a kid in seventh heaven.

    As a design engineer and a Star Wars fan, I enjoyed the inside out approach of this design. I do have a nit to pick, though.
    2:22 According to my understanding of Star Wars lore, the T-65 actually has two magazines storing a total of 6 proton torpedoes which are launched from a pair of launchers. I am guessing that your rendering of the torpedoes is much larger than they would have been in the ship. I understand that working from a cutaway drawing doesn't provide enough information on scale for the torpedoes. In any case, I do appreciate your work on modeling these ships and droids.

    • @Halfscreen
      @Halfscreen  3 роки тому

    Thank you for the detailed CGI breakdown on the internal structure, layout, components. My thought on this from engineering perspectives, the fuel cell is missing, the rails to fuel the engines are missing, the hyperdrive, artificial gravity drive core that also generates the atmosphere (deflector shield) is missing and most of the parts related to propulsion, flying are all too small, unfeasible and illogical apart from too many exposed parts that this spacecraft would explode due to massive heat trap on interplanetary entry if the shield is down. Not to mention, the missing energy cells for the laser cannons, where does the laser cannons get the energy to shoot laser beam? Verdict, in order to save cost and to save space, they only built the frontal fuselage then stick 4 engines and wings to it then call it X-Wing. Anyone from aviation engineering could tell the rear part of the X-Wing was meant to house large gravity drive, large fuel cell probably atomic powered cells with rails linked to directional thrusters to maneuver in space and to main propulsion engines. Hyperdrive is mainly the control unit that would pump in compressed nuclear detonation to the rear cone or through the same engine exhaust nozzles that would propel the fighter to light speed.
    The same case goes to Wing Commander the movie starring Freddie Prince Jr. Chris Roberts bought old Mig fighters, saw off the fuselage just after the cockpit then placed the engine, added tiny winga then called it done rather than sticking to original plan to modify the Mig-23 to hellcat in Wing Commander 3 with overall length extended to 60ft.

      There were a few things I left out due to time constraint. I just wanted to cover some of the basic and if I did cover everything, the animation would had been twice as long. I would love to pick your brain on these ships since having an engineering perspective would give the animation more weight. Having work with various engineers in the oil and gas industries, most of my past technical animations had to be review by SME prior to releasing the animation for potential clients. Great perspective either way!

      @@Halfscreen thanks for replying. Even if you had more time and added the details, it will only show Star Wars sci-fi spacecrafts designers failed on engineering logic that even advanced alien 👽 can't build that and put it to work in reality. With reference to actual alien 👽 spacecraft intercepted by US, Russian, Belgian air force fighters, you'll find their spacecrafts are made air tight with silky smooth surface whether they shaped like boomerang, triangular, cylindrical, saucers with technical parts concealed. Frankly speaking, sci-fi spacecrafts that resorted to massive cost cutting such as X-Wing, Viper, etc are really unforgiving eyesore to those with at least some engineering background.
      I actually suspect Star Wars designers actually built the Y-Wing first followed by X-Wing concurrently before cost overrun that they started to wrap up whatever with the sudden cheap final redesigned. You look at Y-Wing steel frame tells that they actually intended to build realistic space fighters as big as present F/A-18 or F-15 with room for atomic fuel cells, gravity drive, realistic directional thrusters mounted on fuselage and thick wings as per my earlier description. Due to sudden wrap up, the Y-Wing became hollow steel frame with 2 engines at the back while X-Wing stopped at half fuselage. Only millennium Falcon completed as per actual plan being practical in size.

      @@jawarakfFrom my understanding, I heard the original design crew ran out of budget and time and basically slap a bunch of parts just to meet deadline. As an artists, I can understand why most starships are design without any real logic behind them. They are usually overly complicated since they are design by artists and not engineers.

    • @jawarakf
      @jawarakf 3 роки тому

      @@Halfscreen it depends on earlier proposed plan (realism vs stylish) & how much budget being allocated. From the Milenium Falcon and Y-Wing frame, I can tell that they intended to go for realism at first. Due to complications for special effects team, limitation on technology and budget overrun at that time could be the reasons that the fighters ended up smaller like half done compensated with fancy works and directional thrusters missing on all Star Wars ships & fighters. In space, to slow down, reverse, pitch, roll, yaw, up, down, left, right, forward would need directional thrusters to maneuver. Also there won't be air intake at all for fighters that could travel light years intergalactic travel on light speed without refueling at all. If I get to make Star Wars reboot or spinoff, I would correct all the fighters design being 60ft big. TIE fighters would be smaller as they can't go light speed meant for short range highly maneuverable fleet defenders escorting star destroyers

    Great video! Always wondered where the fuel goes and what the heck the ground crew is disconnecting during all of the scenes-- Oxygen perhaps?
    For some reason the X-wing reminds me of the P-51 Mustang. Kind of a thoroughbred type of fighter with good all-round capabilities. A Corsair might be another comparison but it's less sleek.
    If it was compared to a jet, it's closer in function to an F-4 but in looks to an F-15. Trouble is the F-4 looks like it's saying "I'm gonna kill you..." and the F-15 doesn't have quite that look.
    Keep them coming.

    Great video mate, I know your really self conscious about your voice but I only say this in honest feedback. When your recording your voice its notable to hear you breathing in, maybe in future that when you do your recordings, you can edit out the parts of you breathing in so not only would it make it a more fluid presentation, we don't get a sort of "Speak, pause, breath, repeat" if you get what i mean. Please don't feel discouraged and I only say this as honest feedback to help you grow and achieve your best. Also, the animation and detail in this is on another level, it feels like one of those videos where you watch Battleships be built piece by piece!
