    As always solid review, no frills or shills, just the pertinent data. Whats funny years ago I bought one for 375$, after running it a few weeks, I sold my NX8 and another scope I had and bought two more. That same year it won scope of the year 2yrs running, then covid and riots and price has increased significantly. Like you said for 600 its still a deal. For primarily 1x shooting, it is the best regardless of magnification. I have a 1-5x T rated and M rated and discussed the actual differences with Steiner and youd be suprised the little diffence. I never heard anyone shit talking Steiner either, interesting comment, greatt review!

      Thanks for the feedback. I really do like the Steiner and I've said a few times If I had the choice between an NX8 and P4Xi I would take the NX8, sell it, and buy more P4Xi's. They're really solid for what they are and the glass is on point. I can see things with it I can't see with other optics. I've never been upset looking down one of these things. I was looking at the T5Xi 1-5 for another project down the line. I would be interested to hear your input. I've heard the glass, eye relief and turrets are much better. I think the T series gets Schott if I'm not mistaken? And I wonder why Steiner gets little love over here with their quality, save the P4Xi of course. That gets all the praise it deserves.

      @@navyman8903 TX5i is a has 1X more magnification, but a bit longer and heavier. The reticle and illumination are the same as the PX4i. The glass IMO is the same, I don’t notice any differences at all. The eye relief is a tad better then the PX4i, but the turrets are light years better. More rugged and definitive clicks. For me it really doesn’t matter much as it’s a set it and forget it optic, but they truly are a whole lot better. I know a few SWAT Teams that run Steiner specifically. I owned an NX8, ATACR and RAZOR HD II& III and for what I want and need, the Steiner is better than all of them without question. I currently only run Steiner and Khales. I know the big craze lately has been LPVO, but most try it cause its cool or really just want to experience it without understanding or knowing what to look for. For me, I want a very bright center dot and a very easy simple reticle. Clear glass with good eye relief that allows me to run it like an RDS of which is my priority. Some get very busy reticles, poor eye relief and the first up drill at the range they’re searching for the center of the scope and getting a good sight picture. They just didn’t think about what their requirements were. Usually, you see those on forums for sale weeks later with the infamous “Not for Me”? Same goes for Mount Heights, some go tall and very tall and don’t realize what they are doing. There are advantages and disadvantages to all, however prioritize and understand what you’re doing. Let me know if you need any more info or pics of either or.

      @@chaoticcaninejb I really appreciate the detailed feedback. I think I might get into 1 T5Xi to test it out, but the P4Xi might be the most prevalent. I also completely agree with your points on LPVO's and mount heights. A lot of people are also not willing to hear feedback or have their purchases questioned for their applications. It's also nice to hear swat is running the Steiners. The Glass is just so good and sometimes, base on application I do prefer simple aiming points. Other times, for precision a different reticle/optic. But a fast gun like my SR16, the P4Xi is a perfect pair. Which I also have to get ready to get that review done. Thanks again for taking the time to respond, I appreciate the information and experience.

    You can dial the focus to where it is in fact a true 1x. It is your eyes that need an adjustment away from 1x to focus better. Also, the drops are only needed in 4x, otherwise it's point and shoot within 4" or so within center mass. Perfect short range combat scope.

    I got one this month and like it a lot. The red dot is far better for my 52 year old eyes and the glass quality is great. Got it to the range today to sight it in and am very pleased. Easy to get hits at 200 yard on 1x with the red dot and at 4x was banging out head shots. I'm real happy with this scope. For me, the eye relief is tighter than what other people have said...but maybe that's just me.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  3 роки тому

      The eye relieve hasn't been an issue for me, but mounting location may be contributing to that. I'm not sure. But I did see the eyebox constraints. I will say, this thing definitely hits outside of its weight class. I never feel like I don't have enough optic out to 300 yards or so. Great optic, the king of the 1-4x's in my opinion. If you can get it in the $600 range it's excellent capabilities/quality per dollar.

    Hey dude, great review. I bought this scope from this review. I am pretty suprised what you get for the money, being that the mount I am using is nearly as much as the scope. I do have one issue with the scope, and I am not sure if it's just my example. The illumination turrent has some play side to side. If I am looking at the scope side on and wiggle the turret right or left there is play. It is more noticable looking top down while doing so. I know you only have a sample of one, but is this something normal and I am just being too particular, or is there cause for concern?

    • @navyman8903

      You know what's funny, I'm playing with it now after your comment, I have a touch of it as well. I haven't had any issues with it, but now I'm going to keep an eye on it. So mine does in fact do it too, and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention, I don't know how I never felt it before lol. I wouldn't say based on how hard I've been on mine to include an unplanned tumble onto concrete. It's up to you, but mine does it and is still running strong.
      Glad you like the optic, and I'm getting the T5Xi 1-5 next to see if it's worth its cult hype on certain parts of the internet. But the other 11.5's I have in my inventory will all be wearing P4Xi's, it's my go to 1-4x optic, and it's much better than a dot/magnifier combo. I'm always impressed with the glass clarity, even after owning /running it this entire time.

      @@navyman8903 Thanks for the quick and detailed response man, much appreciated. I just spoke with Steiner CS a little bit ago and they said it's not supposed to be like that. They sent me a return label and I'm debating whether or not it even needs to be "fixed". Since both of ours have the same "issue" I would say it is probably a common enough occurrence, but I cannot find a single mention of it online. Anyway, I will probably send my new shiny back to steiner to get looked at (sigh)... I will definitely give an update after I get it back though. Every manufacturer can release a lemon, no biggy. It's what they do with the customer who bought it that sets manufacturers apart, and we will see how Steiner handles this one.

      Something quick and 1-4 SFP is alright if I just need to do fast work, or "oh damn, I have to hit something at 300 yards" But if I need to do high volumes of serious work or unknown ranges, I want FFP. You don't know what power would be best to take a shot at and all of that noise. But I do feel it's set up dependent. I like SFP for some things and FFP for most things.

    Your review convinced me to buy the Steiner. If I wanted something slightly better, I would have to buy the Vortex Razor, which now costs between $1,300 and $1,400. As for cost, the Steiner is going for $799.95, or thereabouts, on most websites. However, I just purchased (10/19/21) the Steiner on sale for $649.95, new, which is a good price. That said, I really really really love this P4Xi and it fits my criteria. It is for most applications my red dot replacement and it gives me 4x/confident engagements out to 300 yards. Which is something for sure. 6x, you can push out farther. But again, my criteria for a 6x is to have FFP so I can take shots without math at 3x 4x 5x or 6x. So I can get better FOV if I need it. I prefer the Trijicon CREDO so far for my 1-6. But that's for me, your application requirements might be different. BUT you're right in there for the optics I would recommend for that price range.

I like the P3TR reticles in the 1-4 and certainly 1-5 when I get it for a CQC red dot/magnifier replacement. They don't weigh a ton for an LPVO and the glass is clear. So it's an easy choice for me.

      Scalarworks makes the best mounts on the market. Extremely well priced, holds zero if you remove it and put it back on, lightweight, rugged and high quality overall. I’ve used OEM mounts from Trijicon MRO and Aimpoint CompM5 and they are garbage. The bonus on the scope mounts is the self leveling pin when you mount a scope. I have one on my ATACR 1-8 and love it. I’ve used a friend’s geissele mount on his T2 and we tested the zero hold and requiring a tool already sucks and the zero hold was fine but also weighs more than a scalarworks in the same optic holder model and height, I also used a reptilia from a different friend and while a little lighter still needs a tool/case to screw it in and is ok at zero hold as well. The Scalarworks mount is the standard by which all others are judged against. The Geissele is nice but for 10 bucks more you get a Scalarworks red dot mount that is more aesthetically pleasing and the Reptilia is lighter but isn’t as good at holding zero as the other two. None of my friends have a proper scope mount for me to compare to but the Geissele has obnoxious knobs on the side and you have to use a level to mount. Get the Scalarworks man. You won’t be disappointed, plus if you bundle the optic with it, it’s actually cheaper than buying the optic and mount separate.

    You need to try the meopta zd 1-4. It is better then the Steiner but just slightly. Has better coatings, more QC time, more rugged, better glass (ive done side by side). is 1-4x22 compared to 1-4x24 which means it has more metal on the tube because it is a 30mm. Has a 111 ft field of view and the reticle is VERY daylight bright and is bad ass. The eyebox is more forgiving. its like 9.5 inches long too. It is by far the best scope no one talks about.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  3 роки тому

      You have to zero it on 4x for the zero to be true. Being a Second focal plane your zero is only perfect on the magnification you zero it at. When you zero it on 4x the BDC is true vs 3x or 2x or 1x. The center is almost the same. But I showed that in the video. I forget the time stamp. But short story long, zero it on 4x at 50 yards. You'll be good to go.

    The point about it not being a “sniper optic” is important. One problem I had with it, particularly early on, has been difficulty in shooting really tight groups on small targets, because the heavy reticle actually tends to obscure said targets. So for a long time I had mixed feelings about my P4Xi. When I stopped fixating on trying to use it to shoot sub-MOA groups (which I have done with it, just not consistently) and use it more like it is intended to be used, I find I like it a lot more.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  2 роки тому +2

      Yup, it's a lesson I sometimes have to learn multiple times. Over aiming and trying to get sub MOA out of it isn't what it's for like you're saying. Getting effective hits at range? Absolutely. But stacking a .75 moa group at 200 yards isn't it.

    1. Inflation
    2. Falling value of the dollar
    3. Supply chain shortages
    4. Expensive German glass
    5. Increased demand
    If the glass were made by Leica, this optic could easily cost $3,000. Germans make the best glass in the world. That's why it costs so much.
