I knew that there were particular regulations and differences about standard rifles, SBRs and pistols there in US, but I never explored them enough: this video has clarified to me many things. What can I say, I thought you didn't have such stupid regulations like we do here in Italy (which for sure are worst!!). At least not at federal level, but at State or local level only.
I think there’s something like 13,000 actual gun laws on the books in the US. Here’s just a few “common sense” gun laws we have, thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/359363-What-if-there-were-serious-gun-controls%3F
@@borkwoof696 yes, for sure they are better than in other countries: we can own almost any type of firearm. But there are limitations on the maximum number of certain types, on the number of cartridges, it's practically impossible to get a carry permit for self-defense (typically the permits that are issued are for sporting or hunting purpose). Not too bad considering the fact that having a firearm here is a privilege and not a right, but I'd prefere less restrictions: most of them does not make sense at all!
Man, I really appreciate your choice to not bring your politics into the video and discourage grandstanding in the comments. Just well done, thank you.
Very good information on the differences between a SBR & PDW style pistol. It looks like the distinction or enforcement can depend on which way the wind is blowing. Thank you for this excellent review.
The difference is simple... If your barrel's overall length is less than 16" there are 2 options you have (for now, at least) if you wish to remain on the right side of the law., An "AR pistol" uses a stabilizing brace and cannot have a vfg attached to the rail, while an SBR can be configured any way you'd like. The difference is an additional $200 tax and an additional background check and waiting period if you go the SBR route.
Summary: if you decide to shoulder your pistol brace, you might be totally fine, or you might have your house stormed and all the women and children inside killed by the ATF.. non specific example of course.
Best explanation. Been following this channel for years and it's always great content. I may now reconsider shouldering in my videos until there's some consistency with the ATF. Thanks for the info.

@@mojoman2001 my understanding is that the ATF backed down, but didn't give any clear resolution. You can get a 37mm flare launcher and legally shoot magnesium signal flares, smoke shells, and teargas rounds without the hassle of a destructive device registration.
Great information. Thanks for posting this one. I built my pistol in 300 AAC, 10.5. Love it. I still can't talk myself into building one in 9mm or .45 yet. The cost of an AR style pistol in 9mm or .45 over an M&P with a 17 round capacity hasn't made me go that route yet.
Just get a brace, and call it a day...No need to over analyze...Just don't be a dummy with it and do or say stupid things in front of cops or in your vehicle.."No officer, this is meant to be a stabilizer for my pistol"..End of story..Use it how you wish in the meantime and don't give them reasons to over think their ruling.
@@LuckyGunner That's what really irritates me about these matters. For a new person who wants to get into the firearms world this is a very complicated process. Not only do you have to learn guns with all their gadgets, attachments a infinite number of configurations it becomes a whole lot more complicated when certain parts of a gun are either to big or to small, fixed or not fixed, taxed or dis assembled, right type of ammo or to much ammo. Guns have got to be the most regulated arena in this country. Thanks for making it easier Lucky.

I cannot thank you enough because this definitely enlightened me and shame on me for not looking into this further.....I just bought a CZ Bren 2 in 7.62 x 39 cal with 11.5" barrel. The gun shop (which I trusted and have always been extremely knowledgable) was like "yeah we can add a brace for you, no problem" but left out the part about the risk of shouldering a pistol with the brace. The lack of transparency is bullshit from ATF and should not be considered a "law" if they don't give clear distinction on the parameters that could ruin your life. What is really bothering me is that I typically research as much as possible before a purchase but because of the lack of availability on ammo, I made an impulse buy on this gun because it was one of the last 7.62 x 39 calibers on the wall. Lesson learned....almost the hard way.
Fun fact for all Americans who are afraid of some paperwork and 200$ to get a braced pistol: Here in Germany you have to join a shooting club for at least one year, get professional training at least every month, get a level 2 gunsafe, get a psychological healthchack and write a exam about firearm technology and safety just to get a WBK (gun owning card) witch allow you to own a gun for sports purpose and transport it to the shooting range, even a single shot .22 require this process witch will probably cost you 3000$. Oh, and even in case of a terroristic attack, you are not allowed to use it for self-defense because the German government has the privilege on lethal force witch was by the way given to them buy the Americans after ww2.

I'm an avid gun hobbiest, and attorney, the ATF recently ruled, by letter, on what they consider a "vertical foregrip" to be. They specifically say that the angle for a vertical foregrip is 90 degrees ONLY, and they go on to say that angled foregrips are ALLOWED and will NOT change the designation from pistol to rifle.
@thelonghornguy Thanks for letting us know. I'm currently shopping for a AR pistol brace, and a foregrip so that helps me out. I hate the fact that trying to follow the laws regarding firearms can be so confusing to regular citizens like myself that want to do the right thing

I have a maxim brace on my ar pistol. It doesn't deploy far enough for me to shoulder it properly anyways so I've been using the check method without a sling for over 4 years. The maxim has a wide enough pad that my check stabilizes it almost as well as my ar rifle on my shoulder. I've had zero problems and with my red dot it almost always is spot on..

Let me put it to you this way: I've been threatened with 10 years for getting hit by a cop. You read that right - they hit me, and said I spit on them, and that got me hit with assault on a public servant. So, with that kind of experience behind me, being threatened with 10 years for standing up for my rights doesn't seem so scary anymore.
there really is no difference in the brace vs stock. it works just as good as a stock. the atf are just idiots with the laws they make. i thought the point of not being able to have a short barrel rifle was because they didnt want a crime to be committed and the police be out gunned. but turn around and say if it has no stock or a brace it ok. really?? still the same high powered weapon and the police are out gunned until they realize the person has a rifle and the get theirs. most of their rules are dumb when you really break them down. they just want money

People are still being dumbed down into the two systems, my friend. You and I know that, everything could've been so much better if people actually WAKE TF UP, and realize that blue and red, they don't give a F about us.
I hate people who use this argument. Unless you only buy privately in a state that allows it, you always fill out an ATF form and background check. They already know where TF you are anyway, and a majority of the time people will make bills of sale anyway.
My main takeaway from this is that if the ATF doesn't say you can't then you should never ask if you can.

Register, fingerprint, can't loan it out, can't cross state lines without ATF permission, can't transfer without ATF permission...
To hell with the tax stamp route.
Overall, our laws are not as restrictive as most places, but the laws we do have don't make any more sense than they do in other countries.
Dont get me started on supressors
I think there’s something like 13,000 actual gun laws on the books in the US.
Here’s just a few “common sense” gun laws we have, thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/359363-What-if-there-were-serious-gun-controls%3F
I thought your laws were relatively decent for a European country
It looks like the
distinction or enforcement can depend on which way the wind is blowing. Thank you for this
excellent review.
Don’t forget, they’ll shoot your dog. And the neighbors dog too
I can think of a similar example 😕

I have an SBR'ed MPX, and while it's a bit more of a hassle to get it from pistol to SBR, my thinking was that the whole package (it has a silencer also) is so pricey, that I really didn't want to get it really close to greatness, and then skimp out at the end.

Shall not be infringed
It’s not a felony. It’s an illegal law. If you want to know it all know the truth.
Thanks, great content, you added a lot of clarity to sbr’s and pew’s and the mumbo jumbo laws that surround the topic

Fun fact for all Americans who are afraid of some paperwork and 200$ to get a braced pistol:
Here in Germany you have to join a shooting club for at least one year, get professional training at least every month, get a level 2 gunsafe, get a psychological healthchack and write a exam about firearm technology and safety just to get a WBK (gun owning card) witch allow you to own a gun for sports purpose and transport it to the shooting range, even a single shot .22 require this process witch will probably cost you 3000$.
Oh, and even in case of a terroristic attack, you are not allowed to use it for self-defense because the German government has the privilege on lethal force witch was by the way given to them buy the Americans after ww2.
