The thing with this game is, it really helps with the experience if you know how to play it. Knowing how to use every aspect of each individual character’s move-set, as well as knowing the ranges and execution timing for each move is crucial. The problem is, the game doesn’t directly tell you this outside of vaguely giving you the basics via the manual and early character missions. I mastered this game’s combat and found it really rewarding and addictive, and I still play it still today. The story is pretty straightforward and taking it at face value is extremely helpful. It does leave out critical exposition that is in the comic, but what’s in the game was always relatively easy for me to follow. The complaint about the repeated use of the same level designs is understandable. They could’ve definitely had 2-3 rooftop venues instead of reusing the Daily Bugle over and over again. The same thing can be said for the street venues; the same New York City plaza seems like the game was rushed. There could’ve been X-Mansion levels like the Danger Room, along with the Baxter Building. There should’ve ben at least 20 different venues considering the story this game was trying to tell. The game is unpolished graphically like every other aspect of the game, which indicates that a lot of the core issues came from it being rushed.
Yeah I notice there are a lot of people angry at this review who appear to have nostalgia for the game. Not you specifically but several of the other comments give me that impression. I for one just gave my honest opinions of it.
Funny that you’re reviewing this game. Coincidently I tried this game on the Dolphin emulator a couple of weeks ago and had the same feeling regarding what the game was trying to be: Is this a fighting game or beat ‘em up? It’s an interesting concept but having a lot of experience with both genres and liking them equally, the implementation is disappointing and not very well executed.
I grew up with this game, well i played it on ps2 in 2005 when it came out,the song scared me so much, and i could never beat it cause it was so hard,i was very frustarated playing it,and didint expect a game to be that hard to play, however i still liked it alot,i liked you had normal attacks, powerful ones,a dodge or block a super block etc a running attack etc,all these things made me addicted to the game it had so much fighting and explosions or it was funny,i it blew my mind how many characters are on this game, back in 2005 i didint find anything off with having 6 levels,i liked throwing robots off the roof xD or throw things at the them,so fun,as angry as it made me it was addicting to play, also the coolest thing i never seen a game a do before, your healthbar on the game there is so much detail to it like danger regeneration true health full health 50% health changes color flashing health so cool,i never seen so cool effects in a healthbar before, regening like that, also wolverine can regen his max health to 100%,and it keeps it balanced that you can do your finisher when you are in rage mode and also when enemy is in danger health,19 years later i play this again i love to try and beat it,trying to master the dodging in this game, its really difficult, but satisfying when you master it pretty fun 9.6/10
this game is a bunch of "cool and admirable concepts" but none of them really landed, like the idea that they were going towards with the art style was cool but really badly executed, the gameplay sounds like a interesting mix but is horribly pulled off and the story and the multiple perspectives sounded interesting but was pulled off horribly. yeah this game was so much cooler as a kid...
The Iron Man and Paragon levels were that "action adventure" itch scratched. The beatemup where you were essentially obligated to huck every environmental thing at an opponent to maybe accidentally win? owwie
If you are used to button mashing or dont play fighting games, then you probably wont like this game. The Arkham games introduced lazy 1 button attack button mashing. This game has slightly more complex controls than that.
That's true in regards to most fighting games but not really in regards to this one. The vast majority of the combat in this game is one button (or 2 if you include holding down the trigger to activate your one and only power attack) grabbing and throwing enemies does barely any damage and is pretty much pointless. The only way to fight practically in this game is to either spam ranged attacks or throw items at enemies. Taking on enemies head on is pointless because the game is clearly designed for one on one combat and the story mode often pits you against multiple enemies at once. The main issue with this is that the aiming is completely broken and its virtually impossible to fight multiple enemies without simply exploiting the AI.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 I don’t know if you know but there are different grabs. The super power ones do more damage and are different. If I remember correctly storm even has a ranged grab with her special. Also if I recall right , Wolverine has crappy one without special that’s a forward throw , however with special you stab them and throw them over your shoulder. Great for ring outs. It’s how I beat storm spamming on the bridge lol. Doubt you’ll play it again but something neat I thought I’d point out.
I did too; I spent my own money on it so, had to make it count. Honestly this game is very ambitious for its time and I give it mad respect, but the jank is just borderline irreconcilable at points to where I just resort to cheese when I'm on the back foot. Still, variety of player styles, very good, and the destruction mechanics were top notch for feeling like simulating these epic conflicts. It falls short, but at least we got a tease of it being salvageable in times.
I’m new to your channel and I like a lot of your reviews so far. One thing I’d like to see improved going forward is when the game talks you can barely hear them if at all . But if you play it in spurts, i think it’s a lot better. Some games I put limits on when it’s to repetitive. Like when I was playing this I would just do one character a day. Yes the camera is bad and combat could be improved. I didn’t have trouble with AI shockingly and I’ve played this on Xbox psp and lil on GameCube. I think part why I liked it was getting to use daredevil. I’ve never been a big fan of his but I’m probably one of few people that like that movie and Electra. Probably cuz I knew nothing about the characters , so had nothing to base them off of. All in all I get your complaints and definitely think if we got a sequel would have fixed a lot of issues but I still think this game is fun in short burst.

This game is like Tekken 4. The gameplay isn’t loved, but the aesthetics are unmatched. I think it’s edgy aesthetic and main menu/sound design in the menu and the stages and score is awesome.
I don't get it. Everything looks the same, plays the same music track over and over again, gameplay is just objectively awful. I think the only reason anybody likes the game is nostalgia and I don't say that lightly.
