Lyrics:
Something is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is
I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did
Cause hardness, it sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin
I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone, anything at all
Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to know what it is will break you
I don't know which way the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
Don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye
In summer I can taste the salt in the sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on a breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me
I'm a man, I'm not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes
Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to know what it is will break you
I don't know where the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye
Did I waste it?
Not so much I couldn't taste it
Life should be fragrant
Roof top to the basement
The last of the rock stars
When hip hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
That was the big idea
Awesome track , this was just played at my friends funeral RIP Martin
Why isn’t this song played more? It’s incredible.
They scared away from these albums but I think there’s an argument that post 2000 they did their best work.
One of U2’s hidden classics. The performance is flawless, up there with one of their best ever live moments. Bono’s singing is as good as it gets.
Spot on!. Best live version ive seen on tape EVER!!!
This song surely must be one of U2's hidden treasures.
Ironically I ha have had a passion for kites since being a child. And literally first time I heard this I fell in love with it.
It is
Amongst many hidden gems some of which didn't even make it to an album or a "B" side
Grace too❤
One of those songs that you fall in love with and it breaks your heart.
Rip mom six years later I still miss you
My mother died that year and this song got me through it. Great song.
Hearing Bono sing this not long after losing his father always brings a tear to my eyes.
Bono wrote this song for his daughter but it ended up being about his father when he passed away.
I've lost everything. But God.
This is by far the best U2 concert ever filmed. Edge's guitar power is just unique.
To my dad that used to tell me to shut up when this song came on in the full concert version. Sending Love Mike x
The best and the most hidden song of U2.
Only for a few!!
My dad died suddenly of a heart attack just a few days ago. We were incredibly close and this was our song. Hearing it brings me both immense pain but also comfort.
I’ll see you soon Dad, and we’ll share a Guinness in the sky.
I hope you feel better now
Bono's lyrics of life, pain and searching for meaning have carried so many of us at one time or another.. Im sorry for your loss.
Tough deal. I hope you find comfort in your fathers passing. I probably said that wrongly. First time I heard this song, I told my wife, that is our departure song.
May his soul rest in peace my Sister from Zwelihle South Africa
May you have comfort in the loving memories of bygone days and cherished memories of your dad. This very song brings me to tears, just to reminsce and i feel like singing it out loud. One of the Bono's best that simply trnscends one from this state of being to nothingness, the oblivion. After all such powerful songs remind us how similar we all are at the very core of our existence.
Bono sings from his heart!
Bono understands pain...God will Bless him
I was singing this song with Bono that night and I’m sitting on my couch singing it with him now 19 years later. My almost 34 years of fandom sure has been a trip. I was 11 when I discovered these guys thanks to my social studies teacher. I’ll be 45 in April. These gents are literally the soundtrack to my life. I will love them to the very depths of my soul for all the rest of my days. Adam, Edge, Larry and of course, Bono...a million thank yous from me wouldn’t even scratch the surface. Thank you for seeing me through all the phases of my life. Love you guys ❤️
I was 19 when I first heard “Sunday Bloody Sunday” on the radio. Bought the album (yes album) “War” as soon as I found it on the shelf & been a fan ever since. (still have the album 😎👍)
Saw them live in Detroit during the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 (when tickets were under $20)
@@greenmile9496 That’s so cool! Sunday Bloody Sunday was my introduction to U2 as well! My social studies teacher was teaching us about Northern Ireland and he played the song for us. I was instantly in love. I begged my mom to start buying me all their albums (mine were all on cassette lol). The first album I ever purchased all on my own with my own money was Rattle and Hum. I was 12. The teenager at the record store told me I had good taste in music, especially for a little kid. All my classmates were listening to New Kids on the Block and I was listening to U2. My mom kept telling me that U2 was a phase and I’d grow out of it. Lol I guess moms don’t know everything
@@207LW that’s awesome👍
I passed the torch along to one of my daughters as well. She completed a study abroad in Ireland a few years ago also!
Beautiful country that I’d love to visit someday bloody someday😁
Me too! Saw my first U2 concert at the Boston Garden during the Joshua Tree tour. Almost passed out when they came onto the stage. I starting listening to them when I was 15 and I'm almost 50 now. Ughh! They are the soundtrack of my life too. 😁

I dedicate this one to my best friend for life and after... Anthony Nevejans....the best and most awesome U fan ever...Now In Heaven
I remember when I had watched this performance around the same time my own Father was dying. As I watched my Father laying on the sofa in his last days of fighting cancer, I watched Bono singing this...feeling this, knowing he was at the same place in my life with his own Father that I was at that moment. It was like a dam broke...and when he said "this song is about letting go of somebody that you don't want to let go of. it could be a lover, it could be a Father, could be a child, could be a friend." It was hard to let go, but at that time I was a brick wall. Strong. Tough. Until I let go...my ego flew as my Father confessed his sins, fears, and regrets. I was able to see him as a man, a man on a journey, and I was blessed and privileged as I told him "so long Dad, see you soon...and safe travels"
I got emotional reading your comment and you will see him again..
wow, what strong words my friend...it is incredible what a song can transmit to us or where it can take us...this song for me is without a doubt in the top 10...it is very very beautiful...congratulations on your words
Same here went through exactly same
I needed this comment today. Thank you. God bless.
@@elizabethacevedo558 I hope you are healed Elizabeth. Unfortunately...I visited this place because I miss my Dad tonight.
I love how Bono and Adam admired the Edge's solo
Trust me 🙏 -- for those that have lost someone; this is not goodbye... #ONE
Not hardly.
Esta canción es un abrazo al alma...! ¿Quién la escucha en este año 2024? ❤️🙌🏻
EU AQUI NO BRASIL 🇧🇷 U2 FOREVER!!!
Thanks for hangin around
Bono is the love of my life since I was 14, now I'm 54. Lol
2021/2022 still the biggest band on earth
This song destroys me in a good way... Miss you!
Bono channels so much emotion in every verse of this song.
Currently sitting with my great aunt in hospice care. 92. She’s buried all her children and her husband. I pray she’s welcomed with wide arms of all those she has lost. I love you so much, aunt V. I know that this is not goodbye.
❤ que Deus abençoe.
Strong lady, Aunt V! May she rest in peace and in your heart forever. What a lovely niece you were to be by her side at the end of her journey. May God bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you until you meet her again. RIP Aunt V!!! 🙏 ❤
Hope they play this masterpiece after this pandemic..
Biggest Band Of All Time.
What a classic. Probably the most underrated song in history
For my boy Blondie, all the words I didn't know how to express to you my friend. May your days in the green fields of the rainbow bridge be fun and care free. I love and miss you. See you again someday
It’s such a shame this song didn’t become a single, so beautiful.
@@JamesKovacic that's what she said.
Acredito eu que há músicas que não são para virar single, assim não perde a essência, essa música não é pra qualquer um, é algo pra ser sentido no fundo da alma, é algo inexplicável e transcendental.
This is one of U2s best songs
I just love these guys, mates. They are like my big brothers from Ireland.
Don't you know it? They're like the brothers I never had.
Kite 🪁 One of my U2 favorite song
U2 should sing this song once again.
Don't want to see you cry, and I know that this is not goodbye.
Priceless.
Who's is listening this beautiful song during COVID Pandemic ??? And still thinks is going through many years more !!!
"A man who sees the shadow behind your eyes..." 😍😍😍😍
Rest in peace, daddy. I love you.
I dedicate this song to my grandfather, who passed away on thursday... I know that this is not goodbye...
Keep that feeling in your heart, he'll come visit there ! ❤️ Much love. May Peace Fill Your Heart 💕
I understand..i loose my mother in 2003 (44yo)when i was a teenager ..
I grew up with U2. Still today at 49... U2 never ends ❣️🌹✌️
I'll be 58 soon, and I'm as loyal as ever to them.

I discovered these Irishmen in the early 80s in my teens...saw the Red Rocks concert live on MTV and was HOOKED. I grew up with these boys in high school and college. I tried to get tix to the Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree tours but sold out within hours! I finally had my day in Pittsburgh in 2011, and I will never forget it it. It was surreal....if you never got the chance to witness them live, you will never know.
Me I'm 67 and i will listening the great Band forever. Thanks Guys for your music.🍀
Edge is a great singer too and a fantastic guitar player. Bono is 62 now and still going strong.Sending Love and Light.
I remember I driving in Germany, listening "Where the Streets Have No Name" in a tape in 1990. Now with almost 58 yes, I keep listening these old magnific songs.
U2 forever
Edge’s playing. Gets me every time ❤️
The guitarists did a spiritual justice to this track and the esoteric lyrics is out of this world. This is my best U2 track.
I'm a man, not a child, a man who sees the shadow behind your eyes.
Ps: And I'm not afraid of it, because I have the light in my heart.
The only singer i have ever heard to sing so genuine, feelings and lyrics that are no cliches or poses, just his heart given to us. A man who had the courage and shouted out his soul singing to God
A man who had the courage and shouted out his soul singing to God

U2 are Still giving us 'Greats' like this
Absolutely Legendary
I discovered U2 when I was 9 years old. My uncle bought the Joshua Tree cassette and he played it over and over. I loved the band immediately. I am 42 now. I love them even more now.
Maybe the greatest song of all time, by the greatest band of all time.
Concordo plenamente.
Много в моём сердце мною любимых групп хранится с юности моей и The Beatles . Rollinq Stones . Iron Maiden . AC / DC . Pink FIoyd . Biack Sabbath . Deep Purple . Led Zeppelin . Nazareth .
This makes me think of my own Dad who died on Christmas Day 7 years ago
Kite has everything; good lyrics, good voice, good music especially the guitar.
My father-in-law went ill several weeks before he passed away in October 2016, and this song kept lingering on in my head during that time. My emotion feels this song really represented him and his situation; he was such a loving, caring husband and father for his family and all people surrounding him. I saw he'd taken care of people including those who worked for him, and he went when he'd made sure everyone was safe and fine (he was an army commander when he was active) . Listening to this song tightens my throat and brings water to my eyes, but it brings memories how kind and loved he was. I went U2 concert in Saitama and it has been the best concert I have attended.
Mi papá amaba U2 y me lo pasó a mi.
No hay mejor banda que ellos.
Cada vez que los escucho mi papa esta ahí
Te extraño tanto Oscar
U2 in prime.
One of the greatest ballads of the last 20ish years. Amazing.
Agree. Chills and goosebumps activated since the first notes
After seeing this on the Slane Castle DVD, I can't listen to it without getting misty-eyed. I posted it last year, when my 98-year-old Grandmother passed on what would have been my Dad's 70th BirthDay. Thanks Bono, and Bob Hewson.💝 A gorgeous song.
Truly the last of the rock stars
Ear Fuel ,bless my friend Mark Segal ,passed on Tuesday laid to rest today....a majic man who made everyone smile .bless Mark and his family
I’m crying, but I’m a man and not a child!!
Timeless band ... what a great deception with all this noise of nowadays that we are calling art
My favorite song from ATYCLB. I played so many times after my dad passed away...
This songs makes me think of a conversation my late husband and I would be having if he could visit me from Heaven. He died from brain cancer a little more than a year ago. I know that this not goodbye.
One of the most beautiful melodies written on earth 💜
To this day I still feel very strongly that the lads should have made this a single release. I know it’s a fan favourite but I think others deserved to hear it and appreciate this beautiful song!
I was 14, when I heard "Walk on" first in 2002, I got curious, then I heard "With or Without you" and I fell in love with these guys since then, now 21 years later, still in love with them.
Más vale tarde que nunca. Saludos 😎🤘🏻
20 years ago I sat with the Japanese girl and sang this song. We were in love like a burning fire eternal flame. Damn.. I miss her
Heart melting guitar solo, very soulful, yet so simple. U2 really are the last of the rockstars.
What more can you say U2; most bands would do anything for a song as good as this one. It's beauty is off the scale. Thank you so much for your wonderful music.
Ohhh I Love this Song.
I Love this group.
IT does remind me of the father from my daughter.
He died 7 years ago.
IT was bis Favourite group.
I Just could cry If I Hear U2.

Im sitting here at 3 in the morning and listening to U2 over the years. Do many gems they have, that i forgot. All that you csnt leave behind is right up there eith Achtung Baby in terms of greatness.
What an emotional, powerful song! Bono is top notch here!
🥰🥰🥰
Truly 💯!
I think it he wrote it about his late father. There are definitely themes here like growing up, showing controlled agression, being strong and yet show empathy and compassion. Such a well written piece. Quite possibly his finest. I love this album too. To me, it's like their 'white album' going back to their core values after the 90's electro era.
U2 Forever ❤
A close friend of mine who was a few years older than me, thankfully got me into U2 when I thought it wasn't cool. lol This was the first U2 single that came out after I was a real fan. He recently passed away and this song has a special place in my heart. I can't help but think of him whenever I hear this song. Thank you James. Taken far too soon. Rest in peace. You know that this is not goodbye.
I am 37 and this year i started listening to U2 .... how stupid i was not listend to U2 ...
This is peak Hewson, a man at his life’s pinnacle
Its songs like these that gives you the idea of how great of a band is U2. A multimillion sales band with literal dozens of hits and many songs known by the whole world. Yet, some of their best are deep cuts. Songs that could be the best one in a whole band's career is a deep cut for U2. Kite, Gone, A Sort Of Homecoming, I Fall Down, Dirty Day, 40, Breathe, One Tree Hill, The Little Things That Give You Away...are a few examples of this.
I’m just gonna leave this here. I’ve always been a U2 fan but “All that You Can’t Leave Behind” is without question, one of their greatest works, IMO. I toured the country with this album on repeat (in my van with a trailer) for months and couldn’t listen to anything else back in in the early 2000s, so it has a very nostalgic vibe for me. We each have albums that mean a lot to us. This is definitely a monumental record for me. I say this sitting here reading “Surrender-40 songs, One Story by Bono. Thanks for the inspiration. Not many of us get to live THAT life, but we would do it regardless. And we still do.
This is a flawless performance. Never seen anything like it

The Genius behing theses lyrics is emense man what a tune ❤
What a great night at the garden❤
I like so much this song
The meaning that this song asumes my grandmother who raised me who is experiencing the last months of her life and her great great daughter is in the same room as her is unparalleled. I haven’t cried much in my adult life but the that my daughter met her great grandmother brought me to tears
I was crying like a beeatch that night listening to him singing this song after he explained before about his father but still cry listening to it when thinking about lost family and friends x beautiful song ❤💔
I dont know why, but everytime I heard the song, a picture of my Dad starts to come up in my mind. I think the lyrics of the song represent the kind of love that the fathers had for their daughters, as if that my father sang it when I left him for my husband and he kept singing the song in my ears whenever life hits me hard so that I will have a courage and could stand on my feet again.. Ahh miss him so much!
The most deserving song to bring back for next tour ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
For god's sake!!
Edge needs to relearn When I Look At The World!
You can hear his 80s voice creeping out in places :)
Maybe their most underrated song. This and moment of surrender. Beautiful.
Nothing to have with artists of nowadays ... pure talent and only pure talent... U2 the legend
Just amazing was fortunate enough to see them live in flesh and blood ❤️
U2 till eternity
One of the best U2 songs ever written.... what it means is beautiful x
I,m59 and i,m crying all the tears of my body.
This beautiful song helped me over the tragic death of my gorgeous Mum way back in 2013.
All that you Can leave behind ! One of the best U2 album...
