Why would I want to negotiate my compensation down to $300k? I watched this video and got downleveled.
You're a fake. Why would the techlead ever edit his comment?
This is not the real TechLead it's his kid
@@ayubomaraden867 lol maybe he took an intoxicating drink this time around
LOLOL
Oh my god, I didn't had the Idea of computer science engineering being so broad, difficult and lengthy. In this way , I would never become a Google techlead
What a boss. Got his salary raised and did the smart thing and went with a private company so when it goes public the stock will be worth a lot. Granted it won’t all vest at once but I’m sure he negotiated a good amount to vest sooner
My guy.....when you cheat by copying and pasting answers from the net....you don’t admit it to the world lol
Why do I feel like you have to know more about the interview content than your actual job
Raphael its like that for every job lol
Luke J. / Nexus ohh lolol
Only at the huge tech companies
Bruh, they ask you for all types of stuff but you may or may not use it. Whatever you do use is really just relevant for the work you're doing for that project/time/assignment. If you go out on a limb and learn a bunch of stuff you aren't going to use... it's good for exposure but that's about it.
Welcome to the game lol
I can print “hello world” in 4 languages. Should I apply to google?
DeerMan lol go for it
Nah fam you're overqualified. I hear 2's the limit.
sounds like all the people who apply to G
Fuck how do you hold all that in your head
yes
Is this supposed to be an interview or a sausage measuring contest?
We *want* to see their sausages, though. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
in a way it perfectly represents that part of the world and the work culture. In europe interviewing isnt like this at all.
DeltaSleepy That’s basically what this channel is, outliers talking about how they negotiated big tech companies into offering them more money. People subscribe because they think they can get into big tech and make $300k with a degree from community college.
@@WayfaringAmoeba wait - now i have to go to community college?
That's how a conversation about interviews usually goes in silicon valley
Looks like joma interviewed himself and other guy gave a backup
so glad you're back on youtube and making videos again. this is honestly one of my favorite channels to follow
Seems pretty good for an L4, about average for an L5 though. I guess in order to get the top end again for an L5 you'll need to do another negotiation video!
Seriously motivating interview. Welcome back Joma.
this is such quality content! Thank you Joma for sharing this.
These negotiations are so wild! I recently posted a video about getting your first internship in tech to kickstart a career, and eventually get to this point where you can negotiate $300k offers. Awesome interview man!
And THAT is how you plug your channel
Jasio HD hahaha
The 2 biggest returns. Joma and Blackpink!
Why dont you start a data science tutorial channel? It would be a really help for all of us listening to you :)
“You either know it or you don’t, there is always a trick with these algo questions” this is why the obsession with algo based interviews is ridiculous.
I have been in several Google interviews as well (for marketing-related role). They were all so intense. (I didn't get the role tho) but damn they were really great experiences
what kind of interview is this where he keeps plugging in every other second!
I wonder if this sort of internal knowledge of negotiation will make it harder for future candidates.
So glad youre back Joma!
Interview someone from cyber security field
Can you make a video about Data Analyst or Data Science from beginner to professional ?.Thank for your efforts
First company you censored was Google? (Not too confident) and second was Airbnb I believe.
And then the culture one is Amazon
@@ZzwhiskeybkszZ For sure culture one is Amazon
What about Citadel? he has mentioned that too
Cultural interviews? Pay well? Netflix.
I was thinking amazon, they’re big on leadership principles and it looked like 3 syllables
Sounded like Stripe to me. They're big on hiring friendly people apparently.
i believe it was UA-cam based on the 'ooo' shape he made with his mouth that slipped
I have degrees in Electrical engineering & not computer science, but i definitely need to negotiate a little better. God for him!
Welcome back Joma, hope your feeling better bro!
Great that you returned!)
Love these!, post more man💪🏼🤘🏼
No interpersonal skills, wow I’m glad I went the medicine route. I too was into tec in my early years
phuc man, never clicked on anything so fast b4
Love your desk setup!
This is so useful! Thank you so much!
this video is kinda like two engineers having a conversation and we're just overhearing it, it doesn't feel like much here for us.
Joma, I've gotten so much out of this interview. Thank you !
Joma i've always wondered, with all your internship experiences, why didn't you pursue SWE right out of school?
@Joma: you clearly not in your perfect mood.. Cheer up man! I like your tech videos also bcoz of the humor you try to bring into them, that makes it different than the stereotypical tech videos out there. Come on Bro! We all know you can! 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Keep it popping! Yo!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Make a video about what laptops dev uses in silicon valley!
TechLead did a video on that. They mostly use Macs.
90% in silicon valley uses Apple products
The cultural questions comment made me think Amazon. Great video, I love the interviews. I'll hit up Hostinger for you
I'm glad you got what you're worth in the end, but also somewhat disheartened by how much variation and lack of transparency there is in compensation for the same level. I get that companies need different levels of engineers with different amounts of experience who then get compensated differently, but within a level TC should be the same and transparent to everybody, or at most only adjusted for local cost of living. I'm sure there are people who are equally talented and experienced but just don't have the negotiation skills, or know negotiating is something you can do, who are being undercompensated as a result
7:45 When the actual compensation discussion starts…. You’re welcome
joma i have the same honey roasted nut mix u have in the background
5:58 lol he was just waiting for the guy to finish so he could share his own story, instead of actually listening to the guy and keep the interview going. Pretty interesting subject, pretty trash interview.
Is this an interview or just a conversation?
Very very valuable information. Than you guys.
Why would you not care if it's sign on or base? Base is recurring every year, sign on is one time, it's the least important piece.
Please make a video on whether it really matters which university you graduated from?
Software engineering is very liberal with that compared to other fields like more traditional engineering and business. The reason being is that you can easily distinguish yourself in extracurricular activities and projects. That being said, there are obviously still benefits going to super big-name CS/CE schools like Stanford, CMU, etc. but it's just not as extreme as other fields where you can literally get rejected off of not being on their list of recruitment schools.
For reference I know a person who now works for Google that came from a small liberal arts college and another person working at Amazon from just a typical state university.
i'd focus more on base at Snap than equity
Lol this is true.
Since the company wasn't doing very well, makes sense
Absolutely sick. Great job.
thats some serious sheat...loved it
Is it correct to assume that his interviews were relatively harder (leetcode medium-hard, 5 algo rounds) because he was applying for a high level position? As opposed to an entry level engineer
Probably
New subscriber! I love your content
Can you teach more about equity and liquidity when it comes to analyzing a company
Can you make a video about data science vs software engineering? I'm graduating this year and going into industry, so I was very curious
basically software developer just copy and paste to get money
in reality, yes!
@@1MinuteFlipDoc Basically yeah, just don't let that secret out
Why would anyone do 100 hour work weeks in Investment banking when you make so much with SW engineering and the culture is less toxic
HI, It will be nice to have some idea about how to build a second brain, use tools like evernote. Show us how people in silicon valley manage their knowledge base!
they were blurring amazon 4:58
If you’re gonna put an ad at the beginning of video at least memorize it and not look over at your laptop of something to read off a line. Geez
The company being blurred out is Amazon
hahahaa i bet its the assessment that he copied too
@@irvinge4641 amazon doesn't pay well though
its sad watching young people being so naive and ignorant. All this time monkeying around with interview techniques and negotiating hundreds of thousands of dollars only to grow older and become useless as your replaced by another group of bright 20 year olds. It will happen faster than you can blink an eye. You guys have such a head start over so many people, just take the money, the job, buy a nice place and start investing.
To me its hard to want a job/degree when you see people making this kind of money x2 just creating content on YT, twitch, etc. :/
Real Logic low key yeah. I mean on one hand I’m glad we live in a society you can make money doing anything but it does make you kinda jelly when you work your butt off and some folks just make gaming videos and make over 200k
@@Alfram yea man its like should I spend countless nights studying while people at my age are making the same money im getting a degree to get a fraction of or should I do what they do. This question runs through my head almost every night especially when the stress builds up due to the work load
@@reallogic4991 Sorry to hear that man, but thats not a healthy way of thinking about things. Those events are out of your control, I know it's hard to not compare yourself with others but focus on yourself and your family and things will fall into place.
Real Logic It’s very difficult to get to the level as some of these high paying streamers like Ninja. It’s not an overnight transformation. Ninja definitely streamed for like 10+ years until he was able to get to where he is today.
Damn this guy is swimming in money,
It is all about how you present and sell yourself............
Yo Joma! Do you have any tips for a Canadian trying to get a job as a software engineer in the United States? I'm born and raised Canadian citizen in 2nd year of software engineering at carleton university. As a Canadian would you apply for a green card to work in the US or just stay on Visa? I've completed 2 coop jobs so far but the companies that come to my school are mainly Canadian based.
Pm me in instagram kazim.adnan
"'Google is the hardest'" touched me
Does your sponsors search for you or do you reach out to them?
What’s poppin?
why do you apply for uber, snapchat and google .uber and snapchat are considered start -ups and google is MNC. so what exactly do you want to work for? a start up or a MNC?
This guys is a shrewd negotiater
Just wanted to say BigN's are hyped up. There are hundreds of smaller companies that offer 4-10x TC with a better work life balance, and without the corporate politics. It took me close to a decade to realize that.
you sure about that dude. 4-10x TC of 100k is p substantial.
300k what a monster!
i know how to put a div in a div should i apply to google?
oh, to be young again... what I realize as I get older, these companies suck... no loyalty, everyone is replaceable... So, these two sounds so green(no offense intended), the time they are spending optimizing for interviews, they should be spending on investing... cause in 5 or 10 years, they'll be replaced by another crop of 20 years olds, provided they don't become the next Yahoo!
agreed, when your young, you think you'll stay young forever and then before you know it, your older, fatter, balder and more useless
My problem is getting even a technical interview. I've only had two interviews, but no offer, I'm straight out of a bootcamp. I solved their problems quickly and I think I did well. I'm solving leet code hard problems quickly. Any tips? How do I get an interview. I have a major in math and business. Trying to get an entry level position.
I just want to get into front end web dev, maybe software development. I've just finished the front end track on team treehouse. Do I honestly just make a portfolio of my projects and network with the right people? Like what do I specifically learn that I can say I can apply to jobs? Do I just dig into a language just learn a bunch of random things about it to gain familiarity or is there a certain route I need to be going on all of this. I'm ready to take on whatever needs to be thrown at me. If you can help that would be amazing, thanks.
Companies scoff at people who do boot camps, I've talked directly with the interviewers about this. lve managed to land an offer but I made up that I had software engineering experience in another country. I'm not sure about front end, but I'd expect they ask bunch of javascript html css questions and maybe some algorithms using javascript.
@@turkyturky6274 Thanks for your reply. So you are saying essentially employers don't exactly trust someone who went through a brief bootcamp but rather someone who's been self-teaching for say 6 months to a year, working on projects, attending hackathons, contributing to open source projects through Git, and other networking with professionals, or other relative experience?
Well that puts you in a better position. Understand that, you are competing with cs grads and I'm sure they get priority over boot camp grads. I'm talking about this field as a whole. I have a university degree but it's in mathematics, I'd imagine no degree at all would be extremely difficult to land a interview. I did interview at google but they asked some tough algorithm questions that I needed more practice on. Essentially, you want to stand out, don't waste your time with Indian recruiters. I want to tell you that jobs in cs might be plenty but there are millions of people that are average programmers and competing with you for limited positions. Be sure to be the best you can be and stand out in all ways that you can.
@@RandyDraytonI have an opportunity you might be interested in, can you send me your resume to ctk1500 at gmail.com
How do you feel now?
WOO NEW JOMA
can you do a video on how to go to interviews and do phone screens while you are employed at the same time? there are some jobs if you take so many days off the employer will fire you. I'll appreciate it if you elaborate on that. I really need to know how you guys did these interviews while holding a 9 to 5.
at 4:56 he is referring to "Adobe" ;)
That blur is Google 😂😂😂😂
5:03 - apple (I’m guessing)
They're just trying to one up each other
I'm always wondering when we use another offer to bargain, do we need to attach that offer in the email? Or how are they going to know that what you said is real? Versus just made the numbers up.
I guess it isn't 300k/year anymore considering Uber stock tanked.
total bullshit numbers. even in sanfrancisco at uber the VP of marketing makes less than 300k, good old glassdoor. even the Uber Principal Software Engineer Salaries go as high as 219k
0:26 Do you use your separate trackpad with your left hand?
I can tell this kid went to college in the US? Every statement is a question?
That's just a valley accent lmao
Still annoying as fuck though
Guys forgot to sniff their own fart at the end
The uptalk is real. Like you know what I mean? So I applied for companies? And then out of those 20? I interviewed with 8 of them? And then so I decided afterwards?
Wow, tech interviews sound so daunting 😕
What's the reason he can't say the companies names and has to censor?
Lol, I don't know why you had to blank you the fact that you work for Amazon, most people hate their leadership not so much the company .
So what is his job someone pls tell me
@Cyrus I cannot find your blog post on how you applied!
Was a little weird watching you read dirrectly off a script :P
4:14 when you need to say an ultimate sware word to offend all audiences NOW 😂
What do you use for background music

Sir I'm not from computer background yet I'm learning on UA-cam... Is it possible to get such companies as Google
Hi love from India
hey @joma you always say you make more money then SE "they pay shit ton of money to DS" would you please tell me how much? even more then 300K? or something close to that?
