I’m not an engineer by any means but I work in accounting, I can tell you how many times higher ups were like “make the budget happen” or just cut this what’s the problem. There is a problem Bill. It’s a lot of work on our team. Trying to explain finance to people is like explaining quantum physics sometimes. That part with the client, gave me flashbacks to people I deal with.
same thing happened to me earlier. Company cutted a team of four, their responsibility was to communicate between customers and workers. My god blessed higher ups think they are "useless" as the customers can just directly contact with our workers. And you know what happened next. Also I resigned after this shit.
@@victord8866 Lol I'm assuming you were intending to use those data points so the software could help them adjust their company so they could manipulate the rotation rate after learning the discrepancies of promotions/salaries? Actually horrible at math but find the application brilliant. Would love to code one day.
@@jonathananderson7990 That's a rather tautological and periphrastic way of putting it, but you're sort of right. The promotion/salary data allows you to build the data points you'd base your model on. Other data categories should be included, but it is common knowledge that those are standard predictors for whether employees try harder or quit. What's funny is that they were asked to predict staff rotation specifically (employees moving to and from specific jobs), and yet they weren't given any data on employee promotions which literally tells you which jobs they were moved to and from. That's like me telling you to build a prediction model on how much ice cream I can expect to sell to my current customers in the future, and then refusing to give you the amount of ice cream I'm currently selling to them now.
Easy you make some random data & do ML with it. Makes the code run 50% slower but you did the job. Literally “stupid client request Oriented Programming”

@SpaghettiHands I would expect someone who does like 2 hours of actual work per day to get fired before long. No one is going to stay productive all day, but there's a huge difference between "not staying productive all day" and "hardly working".
Honestly, this is so real as a pentester on my remote days. I think everyone lies when they say they start at 7:30, because ain't no way you're seeing me before 10am on a good day.
As a developer who's been in the industry for over 10yrs, I can say, _thank goodness_ for good project managers to buffer us away from that CEO client BS. Tip for anyone who manages engineers: Don't let them mix with your client CEOs unless they're particularly proficient in bullshittery. It'll only cause your company more problems when they call the company's CEO to yell at them because their engineer laughed outright at their blockchain-machine-learning-IOT feature. @@selahattins1644 I admire your curiosity! There's a wide range of things a bioinformatician can find themselves doing. I think it falls into either 1) Use statistics to find patterns in biological/genetic data or 2) Create tools to improve existing methods and support researchers. I myself do #2, I enjoy designing software applications and making peoples lives a little easier. The applications for #1 are ENDLESS, here's a short list: -analyze gene expression data to determine what genes are associated with certain traits (like cancer or schizophrenia) -analyze variations in DNA to determine how likely it is a variant is contributing to a trait -put together DNA profiles of organisms that have never been modeled before (like certain monkey species or ancient DNA) -Develop a statistical method to determine how likely it is someone might contrive a disease or outcome based on their genetic/symptomaic profile (really useful for medical pre-scanning questionaries or genetic tests) The end goal of bioinformatics is to improve our ability to predict if someone will develop a deleterious trait, or to develop biological-based methods to treat deleterious traits. Most of the time this involves drug development, but with new gene editing technologies the possibilities are definitely expanding. I hope this helps!
I am in my last year of studying bioinformatics and I am so happy to find one in the wild hahaha! Never occured before. This is painfully 100% perfect! Here's a tip. If you want to avoid someone on Teams, open a new Meeting and log in, just yourself. It may look like you are busy in a call with someone.
That teams call sound at the end gave me some lightweight anxiety. Glad it's Friday! Gotta say, if tech sucks that bad, accounting is stressful too but most won't breathe down your neck when you're handling big bucks and need to make sure everything is perfect. The pay is pretty similar too once you hit manager level. Corporate controller and corporate VP level is pretty legit.
As a web designer and somewhat of a front end developer, this is 100% accurate. Especially the client facing call hahah. Client always switching things up, focused on all small and irrelevant things, says words that doesn't mean anything lol
As an introvert engineer who works best when left alone and in my zone but has had to work in person every single workday of covid, I honestly envy this.

How can I profit from the current volatile market, I'm still at a crossroads deciding if to liquidate my $125k bond/stocck portfolio

Yup. Clients want us to make something that does their job and they still expect to get paid for it. I'm like dude if I knew how to analyse the data I might as well do your job. My job is to give you the data, not to analyse it.
Oh my gosh, I was completely absorbed for the whole 8 minutes of this, and I couldn't be happier I found your video. Great job man, you deserve a raise. Go tell your boss I said that.
Your job reminds me of my moms at home marketing insurance job. The idea of making stuff work without much help and human obstacles really resonates with me and I thought this video was well done. Thank you
I'm not an engineer at all. I'm a pricing guy but this is still extremely relatable as a work from home employee and someone who has to operate very independently. Even the meeting with the client CEO is relatable. I just deal with BD and sales people who have hairbrained ideas and don't understand the numbers and data or proposal I put in front of them.
I used to write massive emails for our sales people anticipating the data questions that clients would ask them so that they could either forward my email on to them or refer to it in their call to the client.
Yep, it turns out I actually have severe anxiety from MS Teams notifications. PRO TIP: 1. go to Teams settings and select native system notifications. 2. go to sound settings on your OS, notification. 3. select a quick, soft sound for notifications, with a 100% volume of it, being actually decreased to 30% of the original. 4. after your day is over turn on Focus mode on your OS so no more annoying notifications. Regain your mental health! 🌿
I would recommend shutting down your work pc. If you do not have one shut down teams and any email or whatever program from work. If you still need teams for private usage then set up a docker/vm or whatever just to physically/virtually divide your work from your private time. Also change job if your boss expects you to be available for silly things after work
oh, thanks for your tip... when the teams notifications sounds were played in the video I was like "holy f*****g *s*** etc etc who tf is that and what he.... wait a minute, it's Sunday, my work laptop is hidden deep down in a drawer (yes I started to hide my work laptop in a drawer on weekends) so what is going on right now. Definitely try that pro tip of yours. Have an awesome day
Engineer here as well, but on mechanical design for an aerospace tech company. When I was working from home full time during Covid(we still work from home but it's only 2x a week now), whenever I had a late night, I'd only literally wake up on the first team meeting of the day which was around 1 hour after the actual time work starts and attend the meeting basically still half asleep for the first few mins and just comb my hair with the cam off cause of my usual bed hair until I turn it on after I fix it. Then I'd really only eat breakfast and do morning stuff after the meeting and come back to actually work after like another hour. So I basically just waste 2 hours usually before I actually start working which I'd also offset by only timing off until much later...which can be one of the reasons why I'd stay up late in the first place. It's an endless loop lol. Depending on how complex the design is though, I can usually just catch up pretty easy, just happened that most complex product designs usually can take months to even years to finish. Although we use Zoom for meetings, Teams has a notification for it and I basically have it at 100% volume with my laptop on standby mode, so it's basically my alarm clock lol. The good thing I say about our work culture was that after your shift ends, that's it you're basically free from work. Most of the time, managers understand your shift is done and won't bother you. There are some exceptions, but those are rather few and far between and would mostly occur once you're at a higher technical level where they need your skills, CND is near, or are part of the management team. The only time I experienced still working after shift/being called into a meeting was when I became a lead/focal engineer for a project, but most of the times outside that I'm very much free after work. But meeting frequencies really isn't an issue for me, it's more of dealing with directors, engineering managers, customer reps(usually engineers as well), even vps for departments and ceos, which I shit you not can be intimidating even in online meetings especially since we're in aerospace it has very strict standards with little room for tolerance(our customers are companies like Boeing, Airbus, government, and private airline companies). Which is the biggest reason why I keep declining any management offers that has been continuously given to me over the years ever since I got offered a supervisory role for my team a year before covid.
@@sidharthsunil7274 how long will it take to debug? And what specialization are you in? Like mobile app developer , software developer or machine learning? Please reply
It is quite different from my experience. My experience is customers are usually in the wrong time zones and they will set up meetings after meetings at like 5am.
I work in cyber, 100% remote, and this video is so accurate it hurts, haha. I have encountered basically all of these situations. I'll definitely be coming back and re-watching later, I had several laugh out loud moments.
Hearing that Microsoft teams notification ping is so triggering, its like when you used to have a song as your alarm, and you’d hear it on the radio and have a mini heart attack
Can relate to that, goddamn triggering than my own alarm clock. Waking up in the morning with just a Ping instead of countless of snooze alarm. WFH guys...
This has actually happened, we were talking about starting a project and the guy just randomly mentioned how we should use machine learning, I knew I had to get out of that project.
It's mostly because of the slight delay in the video chat. It's worse again being in Australia and so many US-centric services. The 200+ms ping over the Pacific cannot be improved!
Everything depicted in this video is so true. Especially the part about people messaging you in the evening. With work from home people think the workday pretty much never ends and it's okay to just message someone at 9 pm to get some issue fixed.
Very true. I think it's crucial for people to just tune out after 5:00-5:30 (or whenever your day would normally end). Working endlessly does not make you more productive, just less happy. I fell into the "work till 9pm" trap early on in the pandemic and it made me exhausted. At some point I made the conscious choice to never work past 5:30, no matter what, no exceptions. My life is so much better as a result.
Yeah you have to stop that shit now. We should work less because we are more efficient but we are working more sorry that is the wrong way. You live your best years at work so think about that. Nobody ever said on their death bed I wish I could have worked more.
the fact the he read programmers' memes at 4:15 lmao so relatable i love how realistic this video is lol (of course we can do and feel better but we all know those times...)
I'm not even a software engineer nor do I have anything to do with coding, but the useless meetings where no one pays attention, one hour of actual work per day and annoying notifications are probably a universal thing.
This basically summarizes the vibe one year into lockdown. Also, if you're a student you will often unironically schedule meetings at 8PM since it works for everyone.
Conversation with client CEO was 100% accurate; actually really like online meetings precisely because we can pause our feed for a sec and have our breakdown & rage, then resume the process of pretending that the CEO actually has a functioning brain.
I'm going through the CEO situation right now. He wants me to create a presentation on CNN for him to speak about. I tried to explain how CNN works in a simple way, but he still thinks it's too complicated.
Finally! Found this video, I watch it 2 years ago and I couldn't remember the title and then I searched "my daily life work from home" and I found it. This video such a vibe and dream actually.
From the material I read in most developer books, when the customer want new ideas for their projects, its best to not agree to everything they want. Joma did the right thing when he asked, "do you have machine learner developers he can work with?", this is typical the move that keeps the customer in check because they do not think it through.
Had an all hands meeting recently where the ceo was harping on "If the customer wants something and its not in the template, what do you tell them? No! If they ask again? No!" Letting the customer put in whatever they want is a good way to get screwed
@@razordrive3238 Wow, how the time flies. I'm currently working in my field now but I haven't been assign any projects yet. However, when this day come, I hope that I can help new talent understand this concept
Nope...todays customers want people who agree to everything....doesn't matter how stupid it is. If you use common sense...you loose. Main goal is to get much cash as possible. THAT IS REALITY ! And Joma portrayed it perfectly in his video.
I watched my roommate at the beginning of Covid get paid 9 hours a day for 3 hours of work as an IT tech. I’m sure this is more work than usual for engineers.
This is absolutely accurate. After COVID (2020) workplace just because like this. I saved enough money and left my job because of this bewildering environment where no one really knows whats going on. Im now contracting and its been a blessing
I dunno how I’m just finding this video now. I’m not a coding engineer, but I am an IT technician and the part with the CEO was nailed down perfectly! Heads of companies hearing hot new technology terms and want to somehow integrate them into their products and businesses. When oftentimes they’re asking you to make a circle fit a square and they aren’t taking no for an answer. 🙄
"We want privacy, so no collecting data from the client, but we want machine learning of course", This is why I always say people with decision making in the IT field must be from the field . . .
If you think about it, he probably took less than a min to get ready. Faster than any millionaire morning routine out there. I’m gonna start incorporating this into my morning routine. Especially the part of wearing no pants. Now that’s a man who is confident in his own skin!
Holy shit the machine learning segment hit me hard. A very similar thing happened to me. I had to sit the client down and try to explain to them how machine learning works and why they don't need it. What a headache.
@@WisdomofHal The obsession is caused by the fact that they don't know what it actually is. They heard somewhere that there's some cool technology called Machine Learning, saw a bunch of other people using it, read a blog post somewhere about how it's the new trend, and now they want it too.
@@ArsenGaming It’s absolutely ridiculous. ML is great, when it’s actually needed, but there is so much software being built right now that just really really doesn’t need it. It’s like, people go out of their way to throw ML at stuff that just doesn’t make sense to have.
This is why we are thankful for our requirements engineers and BAs, they basically say "ok, stfu and chill, ur going way overboard with this and talking out of ur ass,we going over there to see whatbis the actual problem you out of touch dumbass".

That's like me telling you to build a prediction model on how much ice cream I can expect to sell to my current customers in the future, and then refusing to give you the amount of ice cream I'm currently selling to them now.

what does a bioinformatician do? just interested
The applications for #1 are ENDLESS, here's a short list:
-analyze gene expression data to determine what genes are associated with certain traits (like cancer or schizophrenia)
-analyze variations in DNA to determine how likely it is a variant is contributing to a trait
-put together DNA profiles of organisms that have never been modeled before (like certain monkey species or ancient DNA)
-Develop a statistical method to determine how likely it is someone might contrive a disease or outcome based on their genetic/symptomaic profile (really useful for medical pre-scanning questionaries or genetic tests)
The end goal of bioinformatics is to improve our ability to predict if someone will develop a deleterious trait, or to develop biological-based methods to treat deleterious traits. Most of the time this involves drug development, but with new gene editing technologies the possibilities are definitely expanding. I hope this helps!
I am in my last year of studying bioinformatics and I am so happy to find one in the wild hahaha! Never occured before.

I watched my roommate at the beginning of Covid get paid 9 hours a day for 3 hours of work as an IT tech. I’m sure this is more work than usual for engineers.
You recruit badly then.
That freaking workaholic is making all of look bad! What about the work/life balance? The rest of us aren't obliged to match up that insane maniac!
Pretty sure he can do it in 1 if he wanted
3 hours..that's too much. More or less 2 hours are enough
Lazy people. Overpaid and underworked.
This is supposed to be a joke, but now my life feels like even more of a joke...
Same 😂
Ah yes, mindset of 12 yo depressed girl. Nice one.
This is absolutely accurate. After COVID (2020) workplace just because like this. I saved enough money and left my job because of this bewildering environment where no one really knows whats going on. Im now contracting and its been a blessing
5:25 he even made it lag like that. Dude this video is some next level parody
Damn, I thought I was lagging :D Thanks for pointing out
I guess, he just called himself and then recorded the screen
Wow, I just noticed that because of your comment. This guy is good.
@Amir lol. I know right.
Exactly !!!
I can't believe how accurate this is. The waking up late, the 1:1 meetings, the deadlines, and that dreadful Teams call ringtone, argh.
I swear the Teams notification and call sound effects give me a heart attack every time
So true🤣🤣
"Ah finaly, let's play some games boys.... bzz bzzz"
I swear I get anxiety from them now. The sound engineers at Microsoft are horrible.
Been looking for such a comment. 😂
I'm literally on a call with my friend and the notifications gave me anxiety every time even though I'm talking to my friend while watching this lmao
what's a technician? what are your day to day responsibilities? i'm kind of curious cause i'd like to land a job in tech support.
Conclusions:
1. the teams notification sound is annoying
2. Joma has 1M subs but not a tripod
3. Joma can’t pronounce blindr
4. most of Joma cloths are stinky
5. Joma is missing a pillowcase
Such a busy yet productive day!
Here before people comment “omg you're everywhere”
damn you have no likes
Ray Mak ur not entertaining stop botting ur comments
Wait, this has 16 likes and is above the one with 600 likes. UA-cam really promotin this guy eh?
U every where
"We want privacy, so no collecting data from the client, but we want machine learning of course", This is why I always say people with decision making in the IT field must be from the field . . .
This neatly sums up what many engineers have to face from their management today.
Tus videos son geniales, amigo!!
If you think about it, he probably took less than a min to get ready. Faster than any millionaire morning routine out there. I’m gonna start incorporating this into my morning routine. Especially the part of wearing no pants. Now that’s a man who is confident in his own skin!
having no self routine in this stupid world full of self help and sh*ts lol Man of culture
the boy is brilliant beyond words but he sure does not know how to make an omelet
Although, I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t see a morning poop as part of his day in the life.
The CEO segment is incredible.
Yea
Insanely good especially with that soundtrack
incredibly true
Holy shit the machine learning segment hit me hard. A very similar thing happened to me. I had to sit the client down and try to explain to them how machine learning works and why they don't need it. What a headache.
It's easier if you just give them the D instead. That's what I do.
I don’t get the obsession
This was everything I needed right now.
This is me. The only difference is he's doing something.
@@RS-im3co huh?
The part where one of them turns their camera off mid meeting is so subtle but amazingly accurate
Also the part where someone is walking down a busy street with their camera on
the guy on his way to the dentist in online meeting, I can relate :(
The only time when a dentist appointment is real.
