    I love your presentation about Ethiopian traditional food. As an Ethiopian I am proud of you. But for the record you need to check your history knowledge about your country.. ETHIOPIA have never ; never been colonized by Italìan. Yes it's true they envaded Ethiopia for 5 years not colonized. There is a big difference. Our Patriots fought for 5 years and sent out Italian from Ethiopia. During those years a lot of Italians remains in Ethiopia by there own choice. I hope I didn't offend you. I have been in your restaurant. I love it..
    God bless.

    Good video. I live in the DC area which I recently found out has the largest Ethiopian population of the US diaspora. When I was a kid, one of the last field trips I took in elementary school was to eat at an Ethiopian restaurant (at that time it was marketed as an African restaurant). Today there are two Ethiopian restaurants near me that I order food from regularly, especially their vegetable entrees (I'm not a vegetarian but I have the periodic vegetable break). There are many more in the region that I hope to explore someday (of course at the moment COVID-19 is limiting those opportunities).

    The relationship between Italy and Ethiopia is quite interesting. Even when the fore tried to make the latter one of its colony, Italians didn't consider Ethiopians as inferior to them or in some way worse due to their skin color or where they're from (opposed to how the French, Germans and British viewed the inhabitants of their colonies) but as brothers. Even during fascism the inhabitants of the "Abyssinia" (Ethiopia) were seen the same way, both by the population and fascist propaganda. Hence why Ethiopians living in Italy and Italians living in Ethiopia are treated with great regard.
    P.S. and yeah, Ethiopian food is really good.

    • @alphacause
      @alphacause 6 років тому +3

      Mak, Thanks for the valuable historical information. With reference to the high regard that the Italians have/had for Ethiopians, despite having occupied their land, why do you think the Italians had such respect for them, as opposed to other areas of attempted or actual colonization, where the colonizers viewed the native inhabitants as subhuman?

    • @Teenar99
      @Teenar99 6 років тому +2

      I'm not entirely sure to be honest. The Italians broadly speaking never held the locals' race against them (I think mainly due to Italian culture, its non-belligerent nature and the general lack of racism in the peninsula at the time). But for some reason Italians loved and empathized with the Ethiopians at the time; so much so that the whole Italian campaign in Ethiopia in the '30s was sold to the Italians as an "effort to abolish slavery and free its victims" (which, let's give credit where it's due, Mussolini did as soon as the country was under Italian control). To gain better understanding of how Ethiopians were perceived I suggest listening to "Faccetta Nera": the main theme of the song is the freeing of Ethiopian slaves, and the "reassuring words" of Italy (taking the role of a man), that talking with Ethiopia as if it was a woman tells her to wait and rejoice, for the time is about to come in which they're going to be together, under one king and one flag; and that she's no more slave, but sister.

      Drake Santiago it was due to belief that they were better than other Africans due to being cacusian

    • @alphacause
      @alphacause 6 років тому

      Golden Foxa, what do you mean Caucasian? Can Ethiopians trace their lineage to Europe ancestry, or was that simply a mistaken belief on the part of Italians, which inadvertently helped Italian and Ethiopian relations?

    • @goldenfoxa1810
      @goldenfoxa1810 6 років тому

      Drake Santiago Ethiopians trace their lineage to the queen of sheeba but back then the race theory was pretty popular in which the Ethiopians were considered hamitic caucsians and considered more superior than other Africans of course this is all bullshit bit that's mainly the reason for why they were treated differently.
