@@Clutterbug how can i implore your help. Im an in a never ending struggle and i feel so defeated. I suffer from depression and anxiety as well as OCD. I just cant seem to get it together or get anyone on the same page. I find it hard to get motivated and i get overwhelmed very easy and when i get one room done and i am so proud of myself to turn around the next day and you cant even tell i did anything because nobody respects what i do and helps maintain it. I'm a slow starter. No jumping into anything; you never know how deep the pond might be. Cass, don't ever be ashamed of your tears. You are the type of caring person this world needs more of. Your caring makes a difference. Unlike some types of 'carers' who care and do nothing or act and ultimately enable people to remain stuck in whatever their challenge is.

That's me too. Until I look at something and ask myself why I'm letting this or that pile up, collect dust or tale up needed space. Even looking at a dirty wall or floor gets to me after a while. I HAVE to get up and do something or I'm cranky and crabby until it gets done. Slow to start but once I get going, stay out of my way or jump in and help.

I started decluttering a year ago and gave myself a year to get my house done. I had some obstacles life threw in my way but I’m still working on it. I’m finally at the point where I’m finding it easier to keep my house clean and easier to let go of stuff. I grew up with little and I see value in the nice items people are giving away so I used to accept other peoples clutter into my life but no more! I’m not done my onion yet but I’m determined and well on my way! The hardest part was seeing stuff differently. Thanks to you, Dawn and Dana!

Same here, and I was sharing that with a friend recently. She reminded me I have everything I need and most things I want so I have abundance others don’t, no need to hold on to things…and just like that I zeroed in on the word abundance & wrote myself a daily reminder on my phone and on post it’s, “I operate from abundance.” It’s a helpful reminder that who I am now is not that same poor little girl and I have enough, I AM enough! It’s empowering. Little things can retrain our brains. Peace to you all in 2022 & always! 💕🌞✌️

Hi Cass, I've never written a comment on UA-cam videos before, but I wanted to let you know that I really appreciated this video and I wanted to say thank you. It hits me really hard and on target and I'm the same as Karen. Everything you said is the way I feel about myself and I have lost trust in myself to be able to declutter and organize. I've watched some of your videos, as well as other organizing/decluttering channels over the last few months, and I feel that I'm slowly changing, but I constantly have these inner battles with myself and negative self talk that really makes me wonder if I can do it on my own. Watching this video helps me know that other people have the same stuggles and this is a real issue and not just me. I'm a little more hopeful that I can do this also. Thank you for what you do.

    • @reginaschwab6286
      @reginaschwab6286 2 роки тому +5

Hi Crystal, Negative talk will not get us where we want to go; Positive state will (just listened to Tony Robbins) so just keep telling yourself you can do it . Just do two 15 min sessions of decluttering a day and then make sure to enjoy something like a walk, a movie, a bath - whatever works for you. You may need some assistance but you can do it. Just keep chipping away at the clutter, not yourself. I just keep thinking of what Andrew Mellen says - "clutter is deferred decisions" and that is why the work is hard - so many decisions. Many of us struggle with this. I just let go of a small storage room because I could not afford to keep it. I have to remember to give myself credit for doing that but while I did give away some of the stuff a lot of it is now cluttering my car and my apartment. Talk about vicious cycles ... I wish I could just throw it in a dumpster as Cass said but I fight with myself on every thing I pick up thinking of the money spent even though I have heard in many of these decluttering videos about "sunk cost". I keep hoping by watching these videos, I will finally be able to do it but then I also think I watch lots of videos to avoid taking action. I was in tears trying to clean out that small storage unit and thinking I hate stuff, I'd rather have space & freedom, thought I had finally had it with stuff but still the battle continues. I found it helpful when a friend actually could use some of the stuff, that made it easier to part with (plus I had no more room in the apartment). I've been trying to sell stuff but with Covid & cold weather, and cheap prices on new stuff in stores pre & post Christmas, no one wants to buy old stuff. Better to just donate. Like you, I am slowly changing. I have 4 bags in the car for donation right now...it's a work in progress.

Great advise Regina! 2 15 minute sessions per day. Or even take 3 things out of this room per day. It’s hard, because I can’t seem to get rid of things I do not use or wear, but need to use the rules to help. Like if you have not worn it or used it in a year, let it go... 😬 I have so many “homeless” items in every room of my home... 😆 love this channel, she is phenomenal and helping me not to feel guilty for my clutter.

To answer your question, I'm a slow starter. I'm a person who needs a ROUTINE to get through the day, otherwise I will never get started. Once I start, though, I'm golden. This is an age old question though - the hare vs. the tortoise. I like Joe's version of replacing the tortoise with a grizzly bear, though. 😆

I’ve gone down this rabbit hole of trying to find the right video to help me declutter a bedroom/storage room/junk room just like this one. The emotion you displayed really resonates with me. I've been dreading tackling my office space that has become a catch all. We lost my dad to covid19 Aug 16, 2020, 3 days later lost my fiance step dad to heath complications. We married in Oct 2020 and life has finally slowed down after many more loses, and finally laying my dad's ashes to rest with a proper military burial on his anniversary and I've been a mess, a reflection of that room. I began to tackle it yesterday along with some space in the garage and seeing the transformation will keep me motivated to continue. I'm a combo: grizzly rabbit , or jack bear. I love that you share the raw moments, the actual tears, the genuine feelings. Because it is eye opening to see that STUFF, literally STUFF, can truly ruin your life. It affects your self esteem, your energy, your mindset, your finances. Your relationships whether it be from the stress or by not letting anyone in because you're so ashamed of the mess. It can affect your health by covering things like mold or by having things stacked in a way that they fall over or thrown around to be tripped on. It affects your lifestyle, your routine, your time. If you are spending so much time looking for your keys and your wallet because it's just so cluttered, that it makes you late for work everyday. Or you can never have a Saturday where you can sit down and relax or spend time with your friends and family, because that's cleaning day.

It IS an emotional journey and sometimes we don't realize how much clutter has taken its toll on us until we face it. It's so refreshing seeing that others go through that too because in my own life a lot of people don't understand it and how it weighs me down so much. She did AMAZING in her daughters room, it's a good feeling as a mom to offer that to your little ones. It's like my love language to them, creating for them their own little peace of paradise. Thanks for being so authentic! ❤

I'm definitely a slow starter because I like to map stuff out in my brain before I start a task or project. I'm a master list maker with at least 50 ongoing tasks. Once a task is crossed off I tend to add 20 more and it gets overwhelming and leads to procrastination. Right now I'm dealing with a lot of post illnesses and I overestimate what I can and cannot physically do which adds to my frustrations. I'm hoping in the New Year to step up my game because we are hoping to make a cross country move this year and the less stuff we take, the easier it will be.

Hi , I can really relate to your list overwhelm! I recently made a change to my to do list that says: complete morning routine (the things I do every day,) then I add three tasks that I can reasonably expect to achieve, and then below that, a do this week list. I like to add things on my list when I see something that needs to be done or when I am inspired by UA-camrs. But you can’t do it all in one day! Cheers!

I do the same thing; before I start anything, I make a plan in my head. The problem is that it takes me so long to figure out how to go about it that it can be years before I get to it. I'm so afraid to make a mistake. I was raised that way; there was always something wrong with what I did. Then my husband was raised that way, too, and he does it to me, so I end up not even trying.

Thank you Cas, and well done Karyn! I am in the process of transforming a similar room in my house. For YEARS, my clutter has humiliated me, made me hate myself and ruined my life. I was spinning my wheels and I felt like such a failure. I recently had a family member come and coach me through round 1 of decluttering. She has been offering for so long and I finally gave in! I feel like a weight has been lifted. So much is GONE and it feels good!! There is still more to declutter as I organise what is left but I feel so much more confident as I make those decisions now. I've also been able to start on some micro-sorting, which makes me so happy as a Bee type! Safe to say, I cried and nodded right along with you in this video. I am so excited for my room to be as functional as Karyn's is now and it actually, finally, feels like an achievable goal!! Decluttering really is life-changing.

I love your background. I have decluttered my entire house this year and the feelings beyond amazing. I was cleaning my kitchen last night and it literally took me 23 min to leave it ready for the morning. I had one of those moments where I couldn’t believe it. Before I would spend at least an hour cleaning up and I would dread it sink full to the brim with dirty dishes.

I’m DEFINITELY a “slow to get started” type. Heck even going swimming I have to slowly get in the water, first with the toes, get my body used to the temp change & painfully slow ease my way in. Heck, I am like that with everything in life! Plan plan plan & never start a project. Love that analogy. This video made me cry. Love your content!

This video was so inspiring. I too feel like a grizzly rabbit or some sort of hybrid. I’ve been on a several week decluttering journey of my house. I’m off from with this week and planned to do my 10 year old daughters bedroom and playroom/catchall area today. We only got through her bedroom-3 large donation bags and one trash bag and so much pride in her perseverance to push through. We found treasures that she thought were lost, said farewell to familiar friends no longer needed, read through notes and journals and shared laughs and memories. Thank you Cas for sparking a family/home decluttering.

When I suffered from anxiety years ago I had some sentences that helped me. One of them, when I tried to avoid something that gave me anxiety: who is making the decision here? The anxiety or I? Who is the boss? If I decide to not ... (fill in whatever you're panicking about, use the elevator, go into the store, talk to somebody...) do XYZ, it's fine. But don't let the anxiety make the decision. Try to geh over it and do what YOU want to do. Don't let anxiety win and force you to do what you don't really want. YOU are the boss.

I took down my Christmas and donated 4 black garbage bags of Christmas decorations. OMG!!! I feel so good about what I let go of. I’ve been watching for months now and it has helped me so much. I picked up each item to see if brought me happiness. I had to be honest with myself. Very little stuff truly brings joy. I then went through my underwear and socks. BOOM!! 1/3 gone. Then my shorts. WOW! 1/4 out of here. Shoes were next and 7 pairs in the bag. A shirt and sweater in the bag. It’s getting dark and I’m done for today. Can’t wait to start on the spare bedroom closet. Thank you for all you do.

“The cycle” you described is absolutely me. I am crying watching this because I KNOW this is true but hearing it come from someone else and to hear that they really get it and I’m not crazy and it is REAL. I am drowning in my house (which was my mom’s house, but she passed 9 years ago and has been “our’s” since). Very long story but trying to deal with her things and our things being in her house while also trying to make it feel like OUR home….it’s just emotionally exhausting. We have 2 children, 8 and 3 and I feel like I’m just going in circles trying to maintain the everyday cleanup, and that any sort of progress in decluttering other parts of the house feels impossible because I will lose my grip on staying on top of the “everyday stuff”. Does that make sense? Thank you for all you do and for understanding that we don’t WANT to be a mess, we don’t know how to start fixing it. God bless

It is amazing to watch the physical 😊transformation in both the rooms that people are residing in and how they work so hard to change them. Equally important is the effect this has on the person both physically and emotionally. She started the process looking very tired and beat down. She completed her room and at the same time she seem to be a person with so much more pride self-worth and happiness. I have worked years in the field of counseling and as a trainer. The amount of emotional toll this lifestyle has on a person is immeasurable.
