Girl, I have been doing a major declutter!! I have been getting rid of dumpsters and a railroad container full of stuff! No kidding! I am 65 and nobody is going to want anything that I have and I am tired of cleaning and taking care of everything. Closet by closet and room by room, I am LOVING it!!! But still a long way to go.

Congratulations on your new home. We moved in 2014 from California to Missouri so we could finally afford a house. 95% of our home is furnished with thrift store items. I am so proud of furnishing our home with bargain finds. It took time but the journey was worth it. I would go to thrift stores and yard sales. People asked me why. I said it was the thrill of the hunt to find these gems!

Cas, you need to give yourself the same positive talk you give us. You are not an imposter; you are one of my very favorite UA-camrs. My dad gave my mom a pink tool kit like you have. It is handy for everyone because you automatically know where to put the tool back (and where to find it to begin with; her stuff stays organized but his tools did not).

My best friend died a couple of years ago from complications after a birth, and she loved the Swedish Death cleansing idea. I can see her laughing that she made the clean up after her death very simple. I tell my parents all the time to start cleaning out their house to make it easier for me and my siblings to clean up after them too. It is actually a good idea. I am a minimalist and hope that the clean up after I die will be easy (though I hope I don't go until I'm 90).

In June, our neighborhood had the annual "sub sales" ie garage or yard rummage sales. All year we gather things in a large box for this weekend...we make 'FREE ' signs and fill the end of the driveway with things to share. We do not need to price things and sit outside all day. We do not need to load the car and drive to a donation site. We can share things with people who are excited to get them..
    Win-win-win!

And the funny but not so funny thing is my husband never remembers where anything is so we ended up having so many multiples of everything and still can’t find anything he’s in charge of lol. I’ve had my same little box of my tools forever and always know where it is. Every time. Really nice that I have one small thing like this for myself to make my life easier after years of never being able to find anything. And I do most of the little handy projects around the house. So that’s important.

We use a magnet that means if it's on the dishwasher it's clean. It's a random little man magnet. heehee when it's clean the little man is on the fridge. One way to tell easily if dishes are dirty is to grab a glass from the top shelf and hold it to the light -- even a rinse will not get a glass sparkling clean, no lips marks, no hand marks, it's just not shiny. Quick and dirty way to tell fast.

Some how flipping it wouldn’t work but sliding it works. He uses it. And he’s severe adhd and ladybug. He usually unloads the dish washer. And slides it right to dirty. When we start it we slide it to clean.

For the dishwasher we put the dishwasher soap pod in the dispenser and close the cover. If the cover is closed it means to load dirty dishes in the washer. After we wash the dishes the soap dispenser is open. If it is open and empty the dishes are clean. When the dishwasher of clean dishes are put away, then we put a pod in the dispenser and close the cover - now ready for dirty dishes.

I agree about having to just let things go. I just found Clutterburg! Changing my world! My house was a complete mess with STUFF since 1999. I do lots of volunteer work in my community so I had to give myself a break about not selling or donating. With my AHDA that would have caused severe overload managing the selling and donating. I had to take care of me this time! Believe me, everyone I've one told I was decluttering said sell or donate and i had to defend myself which is BS. My clutter at 57 has become a mental health issue! Thank you clutterbug for helping me rise above it.

If you have a ton of stuff to get out but can't drive to Goodwill, check for pick-up in your area. In my area, there are two charities that do pick-ups. I can go online and schedule a pick-up and just put all the bags and boxes in the driveway on the scheduled day. Helped me so much! Sometimes, I sit down Saturday after a big declutter and am able to schedule pick-up for Monday.

I’m currently working in decluttering my house. 2024 is my year for a fresh start and I’m heading toward minimalism. Thank you for your Clutterbug quiz. My husband and I are both Bees, so we have a lot of stuff. I’ve always taken care of the finances so three days ago I started shredding old paperwork. I found paperwork that was 20 years old, this wasn’t important paperwork it was literally receipts, invoices, and bank statements. I’ve shredded everything that was over seven years old that fell into those categories. Our recycle bin is full so I have to wait until trash day to take the additional three bags of shredded paperwork out of the house but that’s ok. I still have four more boxes to go through. Two of them should be pretty easy but the other two will be more difficult because they have the memory papers in them. You know greeting cards I’ve received over the years 🤦‍♀️ I love the memory box idea so that will make it much easier. I can’t wait to have this behind me so I can move on to actually organizing that room which is not only my office but my craft room. Even though I’m retired I have so much going on in my life that I realized I had to declutter and take the approach of minimalism because I’m constantly forgetting things or losing things, including my mind. I truly feel like I have hope now that I’ve begun this journey. Thanks for your channel it’s a great help! 😀

I can relate to the depression question. If you have the energy to do that one thing, an alternative is to get a Monica closet for the time being. Because if depression is bad enough even that throw it away solution/little by little isn’t going to work.
The other thing is to ask for help. My family is notorious for generational clutter. My aunt has stuff in her basement from when her grandmother lived there. And she inherited the house after her mother died. Eventually you just need help, she had to have all the grandkids come over to help.

This was great, Cass!! I missed the live but was able to listen to the replay while organizing my craft room. You, along with Dana & Dawn, have been such an inspiration to me!! Over the past year & ½ I have gotten rid of over 60% of the inventory (stuff) in my home. And being a leader/ trying to set an example for my husband & daughter by decluttering just my own things & general household things has inspired both of them to join in and start to declutter their own things!! It is so freeing to have bags & boxes of things leaving our home every single day and going to our church thrift shop, individuals in our town's Facebook free site that need them, the Salvation Army or Savers, in the curb with a free sign for passers-by to take, and sometimes straight into the trash. The amount of stuff that has left our home so far amazes me every day!! And we're nowhere near done yet!! I'm working on my craft room now & it's looking amazing!! I LOVE crafting, but I haven't been able to do so in almost 3 years. There was so much "stuff" in my craft room that I couldn't even SEE my craft desk; let alone get to it to be able to actually do any crafting. In the last 3 weeks that I've been working in here, I've gotten rid of 5 big pieces of furniture, including 2 big storage benches with padded seating on top & shoe storage below, 2 very narrow & shallow book cases, & a giant L-shaped desk that was just waay too big for the size of the room. I replaced it with an IKEA 25 cube system for organization of all of my crafting items, a crafter's desk that opens up when you're working & condenses down smaller when you are not, a slim IKEA shoe organizer, & one very deep bookcase; which I'm not even sure I will have to keep once I am done decluttering & organizing everything!!! I am being very picky about what stays in my space & what goes. I have found a first year teacher who has absolutely nothing for her classroom & another crafter to give everything that is going to. And I have already given them SOOO MUCH!!! I so wish that I had taken before pictures!! But I will try to show a picture of what it looks like so far (if I can figure out how to attach a picture). Remember... it's a work in progress. But one that would still be a disgusting mess of a craft room that you literally couldn't even walk through, if not for the inspiration & motivation from you, Cass!!! Thank you so very much!!! 😘💕❤️🫂❣️❣️❣️

Cass, I can TOTALLY relate to your poor sweet dog being allergic to everything, I have 1 just like it! She’s 8 years old & after years & years of frequent veterinarian appointments, shots, medications, & then all the side effects that come with them we FINALLY saved the money & had the $300+ Liquid Gold Allergy Test. We kept putting it off bc it’s so expensive & I wasn’t sure it would even figure out the problem but after years of being on $80/month meds on top of still getting sick I realized in the long run it would probably be cheaper & hopefully help her. Idk if you’ve had this done yet but if I had known what I know now, I’d have done it years ago! This poor baby has been thru so much & once we knew what she was allergic to (which is ALOT) we were able to change her diet & a few other things & she’s a totally different dog! It was so much easier to change her diet than the years of vet visits & stress on her & us was! I was told by a veterinarian that Benadryl doesn’t help dogs bc it works differently in them than us & it makes sense bc it didn’t seem to affect her at all. Anyway, I just thought I’d mention this if it’s something you’ve not done or considered. I love your videos & I can relate to you so much as an adult with ADHD who really struggles! You’ve helped me & others so much, I thought maybe this could help you. Thank you for all you do ❤

I'm about done round 1 of decluttering (just missing my entrance/mud room) and I have to say a huge THANK YOU CAS! I've never really found a method that worked before for the whole family as most decluttering tips have a 1 size fits all attitude. Finding out I'm a bee, 1 kid is a total butterfly, the other with extreme ADHD is a cricket helped all of us find ways to declutter and organize that works for all. I have a 9x5 utility trailer we parked by our deck and it is PACKED with trash we took out, we've done 3 full SUV loads to the thrift stores/local share shed, and now in my spare room a corner is full with boxes we're gonna do a yard sale with this weekend, whatever is left after will be donated on Monday.
After being ill for a while (had surgery in May and feeling way better now), my house was definitely classed as a level 1 hoard, if not a level 2, and now we can actually walk through every room, hallway is empty. My goal is to eventually be down to the essentials (in round 1 we didn't touch anything sentimental, everything that went was things we could declutter in a fraction of a second decision) so if I get ill again, there is less chance of this happening again. Your videos gave me the motivation and the guidance needed to tackle the whole thing in 2 weeks and I couldn't be happier. Even my kids are making their beds without prompting every morning as they're so happy to have a clear room that they want to keep it tidy!

Cas… Absolutely love that you said I’m glad you’re so blessed you didn’t experience the overwhelm etc etc and could drive to the goodwill instead of throwing stuff in the trash. Such a nice way of explaining that stage. I started off having to throw stuff away. Actually I tried yard sales bcz I thought I was going to get all this money back. This was before buy nothing pages and donations seemed to become so popular. But realized quickly all the left over stuff couldn’t come back in the house and that way way more needed to go. Def need to get rid of 60-70 or 200-300 bags in my case, to notice a difference. Now am finally at the point I can donate the stuff. But at first I had to get real and just throw stuff out. I couldn’t let not knowing what to best do with items stop me from decluttering any longer. I had to start by just throwing stuff out. And that’s ok. There’s a huge difference between stuff that’s still useful and stuff that you are actually using. If you just pass on the stuff that you are not using your life and house will thank you. (Mom of five). Also if you are a cricket but never could figure out why you always felt so scattered you can go to the dollar store and buy tiny little bins and organize everything in your drawers and even inside your bigger bins and life will suddenly fall into place. When I was a young mom the drawers full of jumbled stuff made me crazy and big bins of stuff made me so over whelmed. I needed micro organization to finally feel l had my life together. KNOW YOUR ORGANIZING STYLE. KNOW YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS ORGANIZING STYLE. I can’t say it enough. I had to figure mine out on my own through lots of trial and error. Before I found Cas. But I learned about the styles from her and it helped me understand my family so much and why they couldn’t function or keep up with my style and where to use mine and where to use their styles. And now having a tidy home is no longer a fight.

Here’s some advice about your dog (I’m a Veterinarian)....you can have her tested to find out what she is allergic to (the name of the test is called RAST) and then a special serum made with her specific allergens can be given to her with tapering doses over time (much like what people do), but even easier is to have her get an antibody injection called CYTOPOINT that helps her body deal with the allergy on a cellular level. For diet I advise a HYDROLYZED PROTEIN diet....this means that the proteins are broken down such that her body cannot react to them (much like Enfamil for human infants). These are prescription only diets and are of course a bit pricey. I can name 3....Hills Z/D diet, Purina HA diet or Royal Canin HP or Ultamino. I always tell clients that allergies are frustrating and expensive! But hopefully a solution is waiting for her....good luck with your baby....

This was such good listening while I was decluttering and organizing. I’m 49 with a 12 year old and a partner with newly diagnosed life-changing health issue. This new diagnosis is forcing me to set up a more simple living style for our family. I’ve always enjoyed organizing, but I have a hard time letting go of stuff, everything seems to have a sentimental value to me😢. I’ve always micro-organized and tried to replicate the “pretty,” but somehow it always falls apart. I’m tired of spending so much of my free time “cleaning” and organizing when I really need to be cherishing that time with my family and making happy memories for the three of us. I recently learned that I’m a ladybug, which has helped me tremendously in my re-attempt at organizing. I have actually organized my pantry, sunroom, kitchen and bathrooms in a way that feels very natural and calming for me, using the ladybug organizing recommendations you have previously discussed. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for all the encouragement you are speaking over me while I tackle all this decluttering in an effort to obtain a more simple way of living.

I used to spend so much time preparing things to recycle, like soaking and rinsing plastic bottles. If it couldn't be recycled, then I would donate it or find a new home for it. It was so stressful. I finally started throwing some things away, and it has made life so much less stressful. I started a "Buy Nothing" group on Facebook, and I give a lot away, but there are some things that just go straight in the trash.

Jusr wanna say, your method of figuring out our organising style, is life-changing for me! I am still working on transforming my home from chaos to clean after nesrly 4 years.yes; it"s a long process of little chunks at a time while taking care of daily life. Every space 8n my home including the outside is at a different level in the process. But 2 days ago, I reached a huge mile stone. My kitchen finally reached full-on maintenance mode! And I mean, I knew it, not because everything was organised perfectly, but because clleaning and cooking in my kitchen and resetting it at the end of the night has been an absolute breeze, minus hand-washing the dishes...and even THAT is much easier now! I look at my kitchen after tidying it and it looks so welcoming, like it 's calling me tp come in and cook up a yummy meal or get inspired and experiment with a new recipe and see how basly or how good it turns out. I ferl completelt at ease in my kitchen, even when distracted by fur kids lol,,,for the first time in my entire life! It makes me want to continue on with the other areas of my home. Sure, I'll stiill re-organise and de-clutter things as I go when needed, but that's just maintenance level now. I discovered through the process of getting my home back in irder, especially looking at how I've organised my kitchen, that I am a bee/ butterfly/lady bug in that order. I have to visually see alot of my most-used items, snd zi will choose functional over pretty for visuals every time. However, like a butterfly, I still like eye-p,easing, so I try to make my visual items look eye-pleasing in sone waym rather than ataking up orecious space with just decor. But the butter fly in me WILL adds just a touch of decore where possible. I'm a little bit of a micro-organiser at heart, but realistically I lean towards a bit macro. The lady bug in me DOES like some things hidden. Some things don't look eye-p,rasing in open spaces to me ( i.e, food cans, dishes, etc. So I do like closed cabinets, drawers, closets, etc for some things. But even in those spacrs, I prefer open baskets and containers for non-food items.
I do give credit for all of the great women whose wisdom has helped me immendely. You, Today With Terri K, The zorgsnised zmum, The zfly Laday and zdana K White, each of you has guven me game-changing tips that zi still use and will use fir the rest of my life. Bit I must say, knowing my irginising style, and understanding my husband's style, was crucial in irder to mske the other women's tips work. You helped me tap into myself to understand how I function best in my home amd how to arrange things to work for me instead of re-arranging myself to work with my things. And since your advice was so key to ,y whole process, I had to share with you this mile stone. In my fsntasy worldm it would have happened with the first year. But the fact that it HAPPENED, makes me feel successful, and gives me faith that I Will reach this stage in all areas of my home that zi have control over. Thank you Cas, for coming into our social media spaces❤

I remember all the times I’d “clean” my house aka “stuff shuffle” till things looked neat and put away but would be a mess pretty much right away again. I’d get things neat looking except there would always be pile a left over pile somewhere that just didn’t have a home. I’d sit there and say I just need somewhere to hide this stuff. My son who was about 12-13 at the time and is really a minimalist at heart, without missing a beat said hide it in the garbage! Lol.

TOOLS! I couldn’t ever find a hammer or screwdriver in “our” toolbox. So I started putting together my own. I went to garage sales, barn sales….super cheap. I also have one picker/hammer, whatever…but looks like something an iron smith created for whatever kind of work he needed. It’s one of my favorite, versatile tools. The complication here is that now my husband claims MY tools as his! Baloney! In a normal world, families have one set of tools for the household. My husband takes a tool out, I find it in the yard in spring, nice and rusty, so I feel justified.😂

I have a bag of old coats, old gloves and hats that are absolutely so sorry they’re not even worth donating so those are ready for you to the dumpster in the morning. I thought I could fix one with washing it once more time. I’ve had it since 1999. It was my fave teams Super Bowl back to Back from back in that era. Yea time to go. I am also getting rid of several puzzles and a few miscellaneous item. I do have a few items I am going to try on FB marketplace. I have a Cricut Expression and SIlhouette Cameo. Yeah I thought I do all that in my scrapbooking. Between the two I probably have used them 25 times and the Expression I’ve owned for over 10 years and the Cameo about five years. I might try and see if there is value in those on marketplace too. I do a 24 item declutter every Friday evening and am ensuring the sink is clean and dishes done or in the dishwasher. It’s moving along and I am determined to get there simply by setting rules that I can change at will to achieve the same end results. I plan on buying a tiny home in the next couple of years. BYW…my textbooks match my career so they are at work but just those five that are specific to it. I rarely look at them but I do…but there is space there. I can’t wait to achieve the reasonable goal which is achievable!
