There is a salvage yard like this on I 85 between Greenville and Anderson, South Carolina. I used to drive by it at least once a month for years and I always wanted to stop and look to see what they had but I never did. As somebody who curb shops pretty frequently I'm of the opinion that there are definitely boats in there that wouldn't cost that much money to get running again if you were somebody that knew what they were doing when it came to repairs.
The yard layout could be better organized, looking at the inventory I see most boats are the low price type, a few medium price ones but they all deteriorate quite fast being outside exposed to the elements without any attention. I did note the sailboat, under the cover it looked OK so some of the stuff is salvageable and I would bet the majority were lightly used in fresh water so there could be a few nuggets to find. I never bought a brand new boat. But obviously many have. Going through a place like this makes me wonder what changes their owners went through. Most of these were probably sold 3,4, maybe 6 or 7 times. But each new owner.....a big change and a big part of their life. Ends up here. Makes me wonder where my 1985 20' Sea Ox which my wife and I bought in '87, and spent 2 magical summers with is now. We sold her when we began to have children. Now 37 years later, Im looking to buy a boat again.
Wow. I could spend all day exploring that place. Can't understand why they didn't try to put everything in organized rows where people could pull boats out or get to easier. Not telling how many snakes and wasp nests are in there.
its all good i haven't seen one snake yet ok but it was at the office / a black snake harmless / i am out there every ay pulling parts/ yes i work there
Most of these boats are close to 40 years old, had decades of use and probably several owners. Don’t assume they are all hurricane damage tragedies, these boats met their fate in many different ways. Look for depressing thoughts, you’ll find them
That's a true one it's almost sad too see them just waiting for one last run on the water . I once seen a 16 ft boat next to the dump down in South Florida and I seen it there for about 4 or 5 years and I used to tell myself damn that's a nice Hall tell one day I went and picked it up got papers for it and now she's in the water all the time with me and my kids .

I found it very interesting. Maybe add information about boats you look at that are interesting, rare, or explain different pros and cons of what different types of boats are good for?

Love your videos brother but be a little more careful when looking thru items in the grave yard. Picked up a carb out of a big box looked at it and tossed it back in. Could have damaged it or one that you hit while tossing. All I’m saying brother, be a little more careful. Again love your channel and look forward to more videos.
The world is turning into giant mounds of plastic and metal parts slowly being reclaimed by the earth. IMO, the future is not storing, sorting and tagging, but using a plasma machine break "trash" down into raw materials and 3d printers to print just what you need when and where you need it. Every one of those boats had at least one owner with hard earned cash and big dreams and one who left it out by the side of the road.
As a UK sailor who has bought boats in the US on Ebay this site does not surprise me. Most Americans want new stuff. The labour cost of sourcing secondhand parts balances the price of a new part. Different if you do it yourself and the labour is your own and if you are into classic gear. Some of those outboards were 60+ years old!
So many people park a boat and let it rot in the U.S. when all it needs is a carb job and someone to re-sync it. Although if it has an OMC Outdrive I can understand not wanting to resync it.
Not a single center console boat in the pile. That says people are willing to invest in restoring a CC boat way before any other style. Thats why I cant find one in decent shape at a decent price. I live 30 minutes from this boat yard too. You saved me a trip.
Its amazingly. Sad. Why would anyone buy a new boat. We Americans need to rethink. I presently have four boats. All salvaged and going back into service. 👍 Imagine 100 young mechanics and fiberglass. Specialists converging here. What an industry it would be. Great environmental effort. Dream boats galore. Mind boggling. Thanks for sharing. Great resource for parts needed.
Bought my first boat a few months ago. I cannot believe how many low hour boats you go look at that were just left outside to rot. Spend all that money for a new boat and just leave it outside for 20 years to be a pond
Too costly to hire the people, they probably take the boats for free and strip and cut up enough hulls for burning at the resource recovery (garbage burning) plant. Fiberglass and wood burns real good. Plenty of both in these old boats. Keeps them going with revenue, by the pound. And whatever they sell in parts. In the beginning of the video you get a glimpse at the nested hulls - looks like they are ready to haul off. This is my opinion - I’m not in the business.
I live less than 40 miles away from this place. I’ve been looking forward to rebuilding a jet ski to get my hands wet. Will definitely be going to get one from them
I really liked how he just threw the carbs back on the shelf and the one in the wood box lol definitely going to use those lol cool video, looked like there was an OMC Johnson that he passed right by looking at all the cool damage instead of the gold. It might not have been but hard to tell didn't get a good look at it
To think every one of those vessels has a story behind it. Someone's dreams, ambitions, plans....to see them here is very easy to imagine all of those people's dreams ended up like this, whatever the circumstance and reasons.
OMG Most of those salvageable boats would still be on the water here in the UK. The price of second hand / project boats has rocketed in the last 2 years!
I'm sure there are wasps galore in the summer. Majority of those boats are plywood core. Didn't see many OMC sterndrives or much sterndrive parts there only saw 3 electric lower gear cases in the video. That area is big on outboards.
At the 10:50 mark, on the the cabin cruiser, those engines looked to be the Ford 427 FE marine versions. Very desirable in a marine or automotive world. Would love to get those. The McKee looks like it could be a nice tender for bigger boats. I didnt get into those Seadoo jet boats when new. Mainly, their prices were too close to getting a 17 ft runabout. But, now I see they could be really fun.

Not telling how many snakes and wasp nests are in there.
agreed
Some rolling down the side of the road into the forest, like they just keep jamming them in!
Junkyard people aren't always the most orgsnized of people.
its all good i haven't seen one snake yet ok but it was at the office / a black snake harmless / i am out there every ay pulling parts/ yes i work there
@@willmcgo8288 yes they are we keep getting fresh ones in but some are less wanted then others
Fantastic... But I wonder how did all those boats get there and why did the people just get rid of them
Just imagine all those boats once had a person who dreamed of buying it new. All those broken dreams. #DepressingThoughts
I was thinking the same thing, all those boats were someone’s dream boat, shiny and new. Imagine most are storm damaged insurance claims
For some it was school tho
Most of these boats are close to 40 years old, had decades of use and probably several owners. Don’t assume they are all hurricane damage tragedies, these boats met their fate in many different ways. Look for depressing thoughts, you’ll find them
Hurricane victims.
I would love to have a chance to go through that place. Do more visits of places like this!!
The same way I'm fascinated with New York City's Plumbing I'd be fascinated in the way that you could get parts out of that place that weigh 500 pounds
I saw what looked like a skeeter hawk in there it made my heart jump. I bought a brand new skeeter back in the day. Brings back ole memories. Thumbs Up!
This is a gold mine for those who know what their looking at and how to get it back into shape.
i work there and dream about flipping but i respect the boss not to
@@ErnestLingerfelt one guy on here said that this place isn't a pick a part deal,,that he was there the other day & asked the owner, said the guy was supposed to show him the video before posting but didn't! & The owner said those parts are for boats he flips himself!!!!🤔so this video is miss leading
@@jamesdamrom751 we sell parts and if we sell a boat that people want and running yes we use the parts at hand but all parts are for sale but some boats are to be sold complete / we dont allow people to just go in free for all - get pics and see if its for sale from that boat and then you can get a part / but business profile is changing soon to online sales
@@ErnestLingerfelt thanks for info,,the guy that made the video made it sound like it was a pick a part place! It's still a cool place,,
Wow, I wish we had something like that in my country, would love to renovate one of those boats!
Instead of calling it a Marine Junkyard. Maybe re-dub it as a Nautical Parts Library
Very interesting junkyard trip never been to a boat yard like that love to see more
I wish I had one of these places down the road, my wife would never see me again. So many projects !
let me know what your looking for i can find it for you
we are hiring good people
That place is awesome. I got a little tease of a lot of boats I liked in your search for I’m not sure what.
It just so happens I’m buying a project boat in a day or two. A man has to have a hobby after all. This was perfect timing. I’d love to visit this place. Hopefully I can find one of these places in central Fla where I’m from.
what are you looking for im the yard manager
@@ErnestLingerfelt I have a 1983 Bayliner Contessa 2850 (I believe I haven’t got the title yet). I need the pass through door that goes down inside the cabin, 4 of the square windows that go in the hull, a steering wheel. Those are the main things now. There will be more items to come. I plan on visiting your place up there maybe in the fall. Can’t wait!
@@terryjackybishop8995 send pics and visual measurements to ernie30528@ yahoo.com with phone # so i can ask the team to look for parts
Need a full inboard engine cover. One caught my eye that may work. I have a 1985 correct craft ski nautique
I found it very interesting. Maybe add information about boats you look at that are interesting, rare, or explain different pros and cons of what different types of boats are good for?
I am russian 52 old , i like boating , i have 18 feet metal boat 1989 made in russian military aircraft factory "Sukhoy " ....its very good for crab , oysters , and sea cucumber fishing ....Vladivostok ..
Unbelievable. what a place. Only in the USA. I loved it, Eamonn Evans Worcestershire (UK)
Love your videos brother but be a little more careful when looking thru items in the grave yard. Picked up a carb out of a big box looked at it and tossed it back in. Could have damaged it or one that you hit while tossing. All I’m saying brother, be a little more careful. Again love your channel and look forward to more videos.
it's a shame those places aren't sorted and tagged. there's a gold mine there if one can see it.
need a job we need the help there
The world is turning into giant mounds of plastic and metal parts slowly being reclaimed by the earth.
Buy a junk boat and make it into a cc, to me they are the best fishing platform 👍🙂
Its amazingly. Sad. Why would anyone buy a new boat. We Americans need to rethink. I presently have four boats. All salvaged and going back into service. 👍
Imagine 100 young mechanics and fiberglass. Specialists converging here. What an industry it would be. Great environmental effort. Dream boats galore. Mind boggling.
Thanks for sharing. Great resource for parts needed.
Looks like I may have to take a trip to Georgia! I saw a few nice sailboats and I think that I saw a Chriscraft Commander... ON A TRAILER!
let me know what you want and i will make it good and hold it for you to see
Getting one from there to restore as a project would be neat.
They were once someone’s pride and joy... Now they rest in pieces.
Not in todays disposable society.
they are waiting for new owners to do pride and joy and keep them alive / i work here and its like the land of misfit toys
Bought my first boat a few months ago. I cannot believe how many low hour boats you go look at that were just left outside to rot. Spend all that money for a new boat and just leave it outside for 20 years to be a pond
@@gearjammergamer8560 Same deal with most of those luxury boats you see moored, low hours and just rotting away.
Cool I never knew about this place. I just put my boat in at Lake Lanier this past weekend for the first time at Charleston Park. Awesome
A couple hundred hours of organizing and that place would be as valuable as the lost Dutchmans mine!
More like a couple of hundred "days"!
@@lastmanstanding2622 - with a small army of workers.
Lots of money in scrap there,
@@TSemasFl Most of it is worth far more than scrap. Only a dummy takes a cylinderhead for scrap.
WOW This is way cool 😎 thanks for sharing!!! When I get up there I hope they have a big Yacht
I bought a boat from this place several years ago. They also have a website you could spend hours on
If there is a boat that I can buy will they move a lot of boats out the way to get to the boat I want to see???
It’s Lanier marine liquidators
I like looking at old boats. More commenting about the boats would be nice, and less music. Thanks for letting me comment.
I used to buy from them all the time! I drove from Douglasville Georgia all the way to Lanier!!!! It was always worth it!!!!
hey men i wish i could have one of those boats i just love them all i love boats how could i get one please let me know my friend
I live less than 40 miles away from this place. I’ve been looking forward to rebuilding a jet ski to get my hands wet. Will definitely be going to get one from them
To all those sailors who also like going green. A yard like this is it.
I really liked how he just threw the carbs back on the shelf and the one in the wood box lol definitely going to use those lol cool video, looked like there was an OMC Johnson that he passed right by looking at all the cool damage instead of the gold. It might not have been but hard to tell didn't get a good look at it
I wish i could salvage one of those pontoon boats ❤️❤️❤️
Love the Checkmate! Brought back some 80s memories.
To think every one of those vessels has a story behind it. Someone's dreams, ambitions, plans....to see them here is very easy to imagine all of those people's dreams ended up like this, whatever the circumstance and reasons.
True dreams gone most likely from storms.......
Best thing to do is to go in places like that and pull every v8 that will still bar over and every multi jug 2 stroke that's still got paint.
OMG Most of those salvageable boats would still be on the water here in the UK. The price of second hand / project boats has rocketed in the last 2 years!
Yep in Australia too all thanx to Covid 19 go figure 🤔
.. equally here in NZ.
in austria too 😂😅
send this vid around we send overseas / bulk container works
Amazing amount of work put in parting this stuff out. It’s never going to be sold.
Hey go back and get that one part for me LOL. It's like a museum I'd be in there for days
I have been to this place before the guy told me all about you, grate content! keep up the grate work🙂
I would have loved more commentary about the boats you were looking at.
and did you get one?
You werent kidding! I spaced out a bit but i saw at least two of the same exact boat i just got.
Amazing! I see many of these boats and wonder what was wrong with them to end up there. Some of them looked to be in great shape.
Would be good if you could mention what some of these boats sell for, or are some of them free? Very cool!
Was the word "consumerism" invented in the USA. Have a good day certainly takes on a new meaning. Great video.
The life of a ship is like the life of a person! The passion and galloping of the past will become memories!
