As a boat builder of almost 40 years I would steer clear of that ocean. Looking like it might need a couple hundred thousand dollars of love. Cost a small fortune just to move it.
10 DAYS AGO boat yard start on my 42 chris-craft well bottom paint etc (fiberglass) estimate was 3k to 4k now it reach out almost 10k. Lets put one more 0 next to the Thousand..
And that acronym is applicable just to normal sized boats! Those size boats he's looking at are probably more like "bust out another 10,000" for everything he finds wrong lol
Fun thing to check out but I'm glad you resisted the urge to bid. Bottomless pits when they're running well, and uh these babies were in really rough shape!
You figure someone walked away from them there is a reason. Maybe you get the odd owner who passed away and it somehow got forgotten but for the most part walking away was the best move!
Sometimes boats sink from batteries dying during a rainy season from pumping the bilges...then they don't. Not always hull damage. Depending on the hull construction and core material there may be hidden damage. Mold is incredibly hard to remove and keep gone once it starts.
Leave them alone. Even if you just want a dock queen it is going to be more work and more money than you think. And good luck trying to give away such a thing at the end of the season
Honestly the 3rd boat shown was probably the most affordable to get back in the water. Old and outdated, but those old crusaders are easy to work on. You could probably replace them with a couple Chevy longblocks and just cleanup the intake and exhaust manifolds, new carbs. Replace the distributors with a more modern ignition. The Ocean yacht, beautiful in a way all Ocean yachts are, BUT atleast $100k to $200k to get it back in the water. Bayliner, just run away. The old Bertram could be a good fishing boat, extremely well built. More utilitarian but not ridiculously priced to fix or replace the engines.
I’m sure you already aware, but this is the second video where your audio has been messed up… I’m not sure if it’s a loose wire or the Mic is rubbing on your jacket, but i wanted to bring it up only so that the issue came be addressed.. thanks as always for the content!
That lures going for a hundred bucks is enough to blow my brains out over that is amazing you should have climbed up on top of that if you wanted to see what a real boat is all about
Agreed, my father worked at the plant in ST Augustine around 1989-1990 and we lived on a sailboat my father built in the marina next to the factory. Beautiful boats
These boats don't need as much work as what you think, if you want to refurb the whole thing, yeah that's a whole different sack of marbles. But just tart it up abit, take your time, buy some used accessories. As long as the engines are not seized up. Its doable on the cheap, relatively speaking. By the way, the Proline is not a centre console, that's a cuddy cabin walk around
Good video the first boat you went on the Ocean those are junk and early one's like that are known to have Stringer problems which is what holds the bottom of the boat together
Ouch man, stringer issues! Sounds pretty serious. That boat bid up pretty high. Do you think it's being returned back to the water or maybe parted out?
@@hullinger if I had to guess it will probably be a live aboard a cheap place to live and a lot of low-end liveaboards the engines don't run and they tow the boat to the dock and there it will sit so for $500 a month you have a place to live meaning dock rental
The engines and final drives are where the money is at.. these are a well know junk boat in these years. Best i can tell those are 3408 CAT MARINE engines ate worth the whole deal.
All low-end boats that's why they are abandoned because they aren't worth what it would cost to make them run what you want is something with good bones like a Bertram
You caught me by surprise with this wonderfully put-together video! We have those gov't boat auctions here in southern Louisiana but not usually all marine in one location. The first vessel was the best for fishing the Gulf Coast anywhere from TX to FL and as someone who has been on a few flybridges ... once you have spent an outing up there, you never want to be sea level again. (Except for a large storm :-P) I am not what you call an offshore fisherman but the heightened flybridge on an intrepid sport fisher is the most relaxing yet commanding section of your vessel. If one is ever to be Captain of their own vessel, the flybridge provides such an open view of everything pertinent and naught. Great video! I would not have paid the $16k plus at this point in my life but for someone with deep pockets it def has serious value even with a complete double drive train replacement required ... if done correctly.
Those are 220 horse Chevy 350s.... Marine ised by crusader......and I did not see freshwater cooling on those motors so those maybe saltwater cooled motors got to watch out for head gaskets blowing out on those things
Submerged look for the telltale water line generally run away however for that price but how much to have it transported ( im not asking just giving my 2 cents that nobody asked for. however my husband worked on these for over 20 years but hes sleeping. Also look for mold black mold it should probably be set on fire With all of these cat 5 ( they said it was a cat 4 but definitely a cat 5 hurricane Ida destroyed most homes completely. With this tiny house that appeals to so many people still homeless btw I've been wondering about these really cheap boats if you could actually fix the inside up and would make a great home but i wonder if you can set it up on a piece of land somehow. (I know that I've seen this before and it was really nice and they paid not much money at all It would be a great source of income or live in it yourself. I'm going to keep looking into this ❤
I did enjoy it. Thanx 4 sharing. If you do those auctions again, if it's not too much trouble, please check registrations on all the boats which is a good indication on how long it's been down. Also, somewhere on or near the helm will be an hours meter which CAN be (but never completely trustworthy) a decent measure of running hours on whatever motors it has or has had in it. Seems like there wasn't a single boat there that you wouldn't at least pay the same to restore as you would to buy, borrow or pay to transport it let alone finding a place to rent or buy to work on her with the ability to accommodate all the gear you'd need. Break Out Another Thousand or so and don't be too surprised how far you'll go before you realize you've thrown thousands into a money pit
Had to come visit, thought NO WAY is this guy buying a boat he is way to smart for that ...... isn't he? LOL talk about rolling the dice any of these ole boats is a risky venture BUT bought at the right price with a bit of luck .... who knows? I will say if I had the space to dry dock it and work on it I would definitely buy a good ole sport fishing boat similar to the first one you showed.
Wow , this is really good this will really help me support my family alot , Hopefully some one can really help me out sending a boat so that I can support my family really appreciate your true kindness it really changed my family life around thank you ....
To saddle yourself with a project boat every year only to sell or give it away at summers end after all the money, work, pain and stress of getting it shipshape is NOT my idea of a good time. Cheaper and less hassle to stay in a beach hotel all summer and rent or charter boats. Do you want to pay for a second job, which is what buying a project boat is, or pay for an enjoyable labor and stress free vacation.
If you don’t know a lot about boats you probably shouldn’t be bidding on boats this size. You won’t believe the costs of owning/maintaining these things. Get surveys first in any case. Be careful buddy.
That Ocean sport fisher needs both engines pulled and rebuilt and the boat will need to be completely rewired, stem to stern. All new electronics. Then you get to start on the interior. At least $300k! Even if you got the boat for free? The Marina this came from is probably not holding their breath expecting to get any money out of it. Ideally, send it back to the factory for a full refurb. New everything. So you got a free hull.
I know it’s an old video but still on so I figured I’d watch it man those boats I think went for a little bit more. Looks like some stringer damage probably transom as well. That Bayliner is junk. I won’t even look. I wouldn’t even take a Bayliner for free💩💩💩💩💩💩

I have always considered a boat to be a hole in the water that you throw money into...
I can't help but make a mental list of what needs done as you walk through those boats. My head exploded within 15 seconds.
Fixing the water leak on the convertible is the least expensive and easiest to fix. Wait till you start working on the diesel's and generator.
Spending time with Dad is never a bad time. Thanks for sharing .... 👍
heard all the boat cliches. Still love boats and have had one for 35 years.
Just listening to you talk, you’re in for a very steep learning curve if you buy one of those boats.
