Thanks Franco, these are great little lures! It was a 1982 article on "Mini-Plugs" by Bob Hassenauer that got me started on carving 1 to 1 1/2 inch lures for panfish and trout. Back then there were no commercial micro sized lures available so you had to make your own. Painting them with Testors enamel was a nightmare and there was no such thing as a clear-coat - everything I tried either attacked the enamel or turned the lures yellow. I always keep an ultralight rod rigged with small lures for panfish in the boat - it's amazing how often a large bass or pike will grab such a small lure. I usually carve my mini- plugs from maple so that they cast farther and run deeper. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Franco. I like the dowel with the sandpaper but i find if you modify it to use in your drill press it works a lot better. That allows you to hold it with both hands. I have used PVC for awhile and although I like wood better, it makes a really indestructible lure. You should have eaten the Crappie lol!
Recently made a series of ultralight and micro lures (45-70 mm / 3-6 grams). It's a lot harder than it looks! It was just something to do as I don't do any fresh water fishing these days but it was an interesting and challenging project.
I recently watched your video form 4 years ago when you showed us your newly completed shop, wondering if you have any videos where you shared the plans for the shop or at least the basic dimensions to help any of us who would like to build their own shop
I'm afraid my work shop plans were hand drawn in a note book and are long gone. The overall dimensions of the lure shop are 7 feet by 11 feet, if memory serves.
I'm going to have to try the trim PVC material. Did I understand you right, it's as light as balsa but more dense? I typically make my own poppers out of balsa and EVA foam for fly fishing for bass. It is always great to have alternative materials.
Cant buy such piece of thick pvc plastic anywhere here. Also, cant believe u can catch such fish on such small lure. I never understood how fat and bubbly lures can catch any fish. I never manage it. Do you have any similar lure for saltwater that could work ?
@@EngineeredAngler I constantly use rapala ultra light minnow, for light trolling. My god it should be banned, how good that little lure works. The only problem are bluefish, they like to take it as a souvenir haha
Brilliant colours for a lake.I put a de-barbed sharpened with a hypodermic point Mustard no.1 single open eyed siwash hook point the old hook could be cut off with needle nosed pliers. Then close the eye on the single. Would be nice if you put a size 14 swivel on first. Like a old west coast salmon plug. Maybe UV glue on 3 crappy jig tentacles to dress the hook. Watch out for the hook point it won't stick to your thumbnail it will go through it You get more bite with a single hook and can keep smaller fish from getting hooked. I'm sure that sharpening your hook point is the number 1 reason I catch trout measured in pounds not inches. 8 9 or 10 would do just fine. I would put that UV on last as fish see in UV. You can probably get UV crappy jigs as well. Anyways if ya didn't know now ya know.
Hello, I would like to suggest an idea to make something similar to the Westin Freddy the Frog, they are very hard to find and buy these days. I think we, as your subscribers, would be interested to see your performance of a frog that would generate income for your family! It’s clear that this may be a copyright issue, but I’m sure you’ll succeed! We, as your subscribers, will always support you!
Little baits are hard to tune and lose them action fast with too much clear and paint. They’re definitely the hardest bait to make. I’d rather make a 8 inch bait
Great action in the water, love it.
Safety wire pliers always take me back to my navy days. I need to get a pair just for the nostalgia.
Hi there, i just loved this video and this alternative material was a great idea.....thanks for this project which worked greatly. Take care..
Thanks so much! 😊
Lmfao, love the thumbnail plus the first track you played 😂😂😉
Perch? Looked like a black crappie to me? Anyway, another great episode my friend!
Speckled perch and black crappie..same thing I think.
Not the same thing. Crappie are in the sunfish family and perch are there with walleye and pike I believe
But awesome little lure for panfish
@@lukelofgren4108 I was thinking the same thing but it looks like the "Speckled Perch" moniker for the crappie is a Florida only kind of thing.
Perch is used as a generic name in a lot of places. Where I live we don't have any real perch, but people call small sunfish perch instead.
Man I love seeing you catch fish with your creations!

I might switch to a harder material to play around a bit. Cheers.
Great built!
I really like this micro. This would be a nice lure to have the kids use to fish for blue gills and perch.
I think so too!
Nice example of small bait and different body material...
As usual...very interesting and informative!!!
Keep up your great work!!!
Thanks, will do!
Great build
Thanks for the alternative material to make lures out of!
Keep up the great work
Great build
Thanks for the alternative material that can be used for lure building
Excellent build. I’ve used some of those micro crank baits with good success. Gotta find time to build one like yours. Thanks
Thank you sir! Germany see u. Much Respekt. Best Channel 👍🏼
I've recently become addicted to little micro crankbaits. I do a lot of ultralight *any species* fishing and micro cranks are great for that.
It's just plain fun!
Best lure making
Thank you.

Excellent content, really great lure too.
Thanks 👍
Could you use dowel for making such small lures?Might be harder than balsa?
Great video as usual......will you be covering some deep diving cranks in this series?

Did you use timber or plastic?
Thats pretty nifty.
I really enjoy watching your channel. Do you ever sell any of your lures that you make ?
Not really...but thanks for asking
an idea for micro scales my Mum gave me was spawn mesh you use to tie up roe bags for Salmon and trout
that's a good tip.
Toooop!!!!!!

It is nearly as light as balsa but a bit harder, won't deform as easily.
What size of hook and style do you normally use for the smaller baits?
This has a no.10
Micro swimbait next? ✊🤟
nice!!!
Excellent content, what more can I say?
Much appreciated!
Franco...do edition/ version 2 put a rattle in it & dress the hook, nice lima bean ( that's what I'd call it)😁
It does look like a lima bean. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't really use such tiny lures in salt water.

Quick question... “Are YOU the key master?”
You should change the space in your name and become the Engineer Dangler! And remove the extra e of course
Some times that's what it sounds like...kinda funny.
Wait until Franko’s wife finds out he’s using her food container lids for building lures 🥊 Good thing he has a nice “Dog House” to sleep in 😉
Don't rat me out!
@@EngineeredAngler I wouldn’t do ya like that. Although I gotta tell ya…I’m pretty sure she’s on to ya 😉

What I meant to add was good job I’m gonna have to try that pvc
Tuning can be a bit of a challenger, to make it a bit easier I keep the bib small and use light material so I can add a bit of ballast.
