Man... everytime i watch Reid's videos, i end up running to my studio with my macbook (in my backpack) and start using these different tips/techniques right away. Holy shit Reid, u do not only give awesome tips but u also make me stay healthy and motivated since im running, and i dont like running dude. lol :D You're awesome Reid!
I just love this channel! Music is a huge part of it no doubt. But I love the vibes. The jellyfish and those birds feeding behind are so so calming to watch!
Reid stop liking all my comments you're turning me into a grown ass man fan girl. My friends are already thinking I'm nuts when I tell them the puppet liked my post jeez man! haha
nice video, but i really miss a stereo meter showing the phasing (like the Ozoone Imager for example), since u can easily cause bad phasing issues and mono incompability esp with the time delay one
thanks stefan I have been looking for more of these kinda things. PSP pseudo stereo has always been a unique favourite of mine. I also use Brainworx control for basic and easy mono/stereo/stereo widening/phase cancelling but sidewidener also looks very handy for my needs too
this tutorial was soooo helpfull thank you! i always use the "haas" effect for wideness.but i personally don't like it,these tips and especially the one with the echo was so informative!
Hey Reid. In Ableton the panning acts more like a volume control of the L/R Channels rather than moving the entire tracks image You can right click on the pan pot and say Select Split Stereo Pan Mode in Ableton 10 . I'm mainly using Waves S1 Imager for panning, and widening . But its interesting how this would work in a effects Rack, would i just use an imager on both chains and panning them there ?. love your videos bro !!!o!!
Your application of Echo was merely adding ping-pong delay. Sure it added width, but any stereo/ping-pong will do that. What about the basic, bread-n-butter use of the Width knob in Live's native Utility? That adds width the same as the StereoDelta plugin, and it's free. Another trick for some better-than-your-saucenest pseudo-delay widener action is to use Live's Delay, set feedback to 0, go 100% wet, set left channel to 1ms and adjust right channel from 2-12ms, or vice-versa, and suite to taste. Just by adding 1-3ms widens the mix nicely and doesn't add too much flangy-ness.
love your videos so much. Is it possible to do a tutorial on how to load in plugin like synths and audio FX to abelton. This isn't very exciting, but would be very helpful. Lots of people are not computer savvy. I always seem to fall into problems doing this. Other tutorials on this subject never explain different scenarios and problems that could occur. I feel you would explain every possibility clearly. Is this something you would be interested in helping with?
I threw a mono switch onto the part where you added delay. The signal lost it's amplitude and didn't sound the same. So clearly there is some phasing going on. How do we do this and keep mono compatibility?
Supposedly this is a selling point of Sidewidener. It emphasizes that it maintains mono compatibility while creating a delay (Haas) type widening effect. I can't speak to maintaining it in Ableton though. Haas is pretty likely to throw bass notes out of phase, so if you can mid/side EQ and only pass upper frequencies through the Haas delay that might do the trick.
Serious question. All these rules of leaving -3 to -6 db of headroom, is it really true? Since the fact that I cannot see your master. But by the way all the other instruments look it looks like they hit pretty loud on the master. Does it really matter or is that false? Only because when I mix my instruments they sound best loud but they hit -1 db
If you are going to record vocals on top of the beat, then I'd say obey the rule. If you are making a standalone beat, you can afford to take a few more risks volume-wise.
I tried and set everything the way you have it set in your last example, but i'm still getting an echo and not just a clean widening sound. How did you get the actual echo to stop echoing??? LOL
does this apply to hip hop im just dealing samples from youtube and i wanna make sure my samples and drums are nice wide and loud am i on the right video?
Quick question. When you pan channels hard left or right and then switch to mono you can’t even here them most of the time. I know you would only do this with background elements but doesn’t it still make a difference? Is this something to worry about?

I love when Reid bobs his head to the beat.
Especially when the beat kinda chill and his head flying way back and forward
Looks Like he's headbanging instead.

Hahah. Yeah. It's such a contrasting element!
Love your videos!!
Thank you very much for the tutorial
Can we have a video about different type of guitars mix ( acoustic- electric ...)
cool vid. Do you know if it is possible to get Ableton Echo plugin separate from the Ableton Daw? I like the look of it but using FL studio..
THX again for an awesome video Reid !! So when applying method 5, is it still fully mono compatible? THX
I thought the puppet was corny until he started bobbing his head. He had me then. Great tutorial.
Great vid
Why not use the Utility Audio Effect to widen out the stereo after you pan everything the way you want it?
I see stereo tracks. Did I miss the mono part?

Press command+F to find a plugin in your Ableton sidebar and double click it to open it
Can we use these tricks to widen a voice ?
I want this puppet to mentor me
Kitty Purrnaz that’s pretty much what’s already happening here 🤘🏻
Bro what camera you using to make these crisp looking videos? lol
Can you do a video about song/beat arrangement?

Tyler Sherman, I thought that you are not meant to use all these techniques on basses, kicks etc though
Remind me again which pack I need if my 808’s sound like floppy trash?

right?? i must know !!

Did you check your phase issue
What do you think about widening using the Utility plugin?
Do you produce Graig David Seven days ??? XD XD Nice tuto
does this apply to hip hop im just dealing samples from youtube and i wanna make sure my samples and drums are nice wide and loud am i on the right video?
I've tried a lot of things to achieve width. I just re-verb, for me, it's good enough.
what's the track
name?
Yo ima start saying saucy when things get well... saucy anyways this guy really good at explaining
Quick question. When you pan channels hard left or right and then switch to mono you can’t even here them most of the time. I know you would only do this with background elements but doesn’t it still make a difference? Is this something to worry about?
(Infected mushroom - Wider) is a good one it’s free aswell. Dosen’t phase either even if you go past 100%
Unfortunately that is not true, load it into PluginDoctor and you'll see the phase start to noticeably shift past 10%
dude, I think you have a swat team at your doorstep... look at all the laser lights :O
Nice
Is the background a prop or your real home?
It's is spot, he has a video of him and Andrew Huang and his girl doing an interview at the same table
But how to make this mono compatible?
How many hours do you produce a day?
How to sound nice wide and still sounding good when you play in mono? Cheers!
Yeah this is the real question. Anyone can add width. How to do that but not have it drop out in mono is the really difficult thing.
you can use a doubler as a send/return, so you'll still have a solid center
Otavio Bonenberger Thank u mate! Not sure ir inunderstood what is a doubler.

wait..so is all the instruments supposed to be in mono?
that muppet head moving too much for that kind of music xD

IDK if these 3rd party ones are free but there's a pretty good and simple Free plugin from Polyverse
called 'Wider' and goes up to 200% widening.
do u have 4 fingers?
Please more logic content!! ;)

No disreseptica, but anyone else noticed the red dot on the puppet's face? :D
I just learned how to mix music from a muppet😂😂😂
Yeah now let me listen to that in Mono
Just listen on your smart phone speaker. It's mono
what kinda times we are .....got educated by a puppet ran out of the muppet show ...whats next ..kermit on how to compress mids? haha lol
