I wanted to be an MRI Tech but the person told me that I have to be an X-Ray tech first, I said what?? in my opinion it's plain stupid, i don't like X-Ray, it's not related at all, but to get to things in life you have to do what you gotta do right? luckily where I work they have me doing portables, I hate OR not because is challenging but the disrespect that you may go through that I've seen it, some ppl take it, not me, I don't care if they're under stress (that's why they make them millions, they know better) and when ppl say: " When they cursed you they not really mad at you" and I replied: " when I cursed them back, it's not really to them" luckily I'll be taking the MRI registry next year and leave the x-rays for good !!
Edited: ok PASSED my MRI ARRT Board on 03/21/24, let's do this !!!

      lol!
Yes general x-ray isn’t for everyone and MRI might not be either but Radiology Technologist is your foundation and you did right by that.
I don’t like the OR but I’m good enough to do it and be ok.
Good luck in MRI you’ll do great!

Interventional radiology and Cath pays the most and are the most in demand.. I've always viewed general x-ray as entry-level. Then you advance your training to mri, ct, IR, Cath Lab, mamo... etc. Nurses have to continue to get different certification for different areas, so to for RT's. Getting a Rt(r) is the equivalent of being a floor RN.. Getting a certification in Interventional radiology, Cath Lab Radiation, MRI.. is the equivalent of getting a certification in the ICU with pay and stature

I just finished my Associate in Arts and deciding whether to go to Radiology School or study Spanish Literature. I got an easy job in the cleaning dept of a major hospital, so Im comfortable in an active critical setting where you see everything, especially in the ER. However, now that I'm ready to apply to a university my thing to decide is whether to help people and get a good income, or get in sync with my creative side and study literature. My usual area is the IR dept and I see a lot of frustration being on-call, specially for people that live an hour away from the hospital where they can show up at random hours and just stay to start their shift. My classes for this last semester were intense and left me like a zombie that didn't have the energy to celebrate graduation, so thats what Im thinking Radiology school will be like. On the other hand, I'd be reading and studying classic Spanish literature which I already enjoy. I will stay on my job because the hours are good and so are the benefits, now I'm just trying to decide which road to take in the coming months academically.

I work in a clinic setting. It is set hours, no OR, strictly xray and i love it! You know what you are going to get for the most part. I feel I make good money for it not being in the bigger hospital. It's a good option for people that are afraid of OR and BEs.

Also, I worked for a chiropractor for a while (took all their X-rays and worked front desk). They do not pay as much, but it's still another option for new grads to consider.

That’s awesome & yeah that’s what I meant by imaging center & hospitals. You can only work where there is X-Ray the only thing about the urgent care work place is that you also have to do MA work, physicals & give medications.
Thats 3 jobs in one person so they get all they can out of you, nothing wrong with that from the business prospective.
Also those places don’t allow you to cross train into CT or MRI.

How much more school do i need ?

Ok so question for you why do you think Radiology is a good idea at 48? (Age don’t matter but I must ask in order to help you)
Ok so to start your own portable X-ray company which many are out there already, it takes money!
      Ex:
      X-ray Machine = $100K +
PACS SYSTEM = $5-10K per month
RADIOLOGIST READING - $500 per exam.
      VAN to transfer X-ray Machine= $80K +
      INSURANCE for Equipment & worker= $2,000 + Month
So as you see it’s not that cheap to start a side Radiology hustle, not impossible but definitely not easy 👀
Great question I might do a video to this soon, so stay tuned 🙏🏽

Ok so that depends on what you’re trying to do. This is possible if you become a travel tech because as a travel tech assignments are usually 3-4 months only & in those 3-4 months your averaging between $32-40K so you can come home and relax for 1 month & then do it again.
Now if you’re saying you want to work, let’s say 3 years and take a 6 month break, I don’t recommend that because if you don’t use it you lose it.
So you have to stay consistent with your craft.
      Hope this helped 🙏🏽

Ok so YES if you don’t want to be on-call it’s best to work at an outpatient clinic/center but then you are limiting yourself from becoming a full tech do to the fact that usually in a clinic you don’t so Fluoro or OR cases which then means that in the future if you want to become a Travel Tech & make $2-3K per week most travel agencies won’t take you on do to your lack of experience.
      Hope this helped 🙏🏽

Radiology Technologist is the proper name but nicknames are: X-Ray Tech, Rad Tech, Imaging Technologist
Radiologist is the actual doctor who reads the images and it takes 16 years to become a Radiologist.

Ok so usually bro when you’re in the Radiology Program you are graduating with an A.S. In science.
They call it that put most schools now don’t require you to even finish an A.S. As long as you get your prerequisites done you can apply to the program. Now does it help to get your A.S. And then apply … Yes you’ll have a better chance but again nothing is promised.
Best thing to do is try your best to get A’s & B’s now this only applies if your trying to get into a Public/State College. If you are trying to get into a Private College then nothings matters they accept anyone as long as your willing to pay the $50-70K in student loans 🤔👀🤷🏽‍♂️

Yes sir but make sure your community college Radiology Program is a 2 year degree. Once your finished school you take your ARRT registry exam & once you pass that your a Certified Radiology Technologist.
After that you can grow into CT, MRI ect…

It sounds like you didn't do your homework before going into the field. You never mentioned IR or Cath lab .. sounds like your view is very narrow. If you are a Rt you need to be flexible willing to relocate for opportunities. I've been a interventional radiology tech for over 20 years and from my perspective, you are very short sited in your analogy of the field..

I really don't understand your videos. You keep waffling back and forth about the field. Get into it, don't get into it. Which is it? And as far as the hours...those are not crazy crazy hours. There are hundreds of occultations that are way harder than being a rad tech in a hospital. This video seems more discouraging than letting people know what their getting into. I'll tell you what a hard job is. "Living life". Nothing is harder than that. And anything worth doing is going to be hard. Living life is the hardest thing to do yet we do it while many check out. You sound like you're burned out. And you talk about the things you didn't know before going in, but you're still working in the field. This video feels like a scare tactic. And some of your information is misinformation. Rad techs can work in more than just hospitals and imaging centers so that's dead wrong.

    • @juanmotiva8s959
      @juanmotiva8s959  8 місяців тому +3

Ok so first off I want to say thank you for always supporting I appreciate you 🙏🏽
I make my videos like this because even though you’ve seen my previous videos other people haven’t and I still get questions like “What hours do rad techs work” “what’s involved in rad tech daily like” ect so I have to go back.
On my videos I try not to say go into Radiology or Not I just simply give you insight on the field & it might or may not be for you.
I still work in the field because I worked hard for my degree & it pays well it’s not my passion but I respect it.
I have my Bachelors, I went back to school for a 💈 & im currently in school to be a teacher so it has provided me with the opportunity to venture out.
If this video discouraged you I apologize wasn’t my intention 🙏🏽
      Have a blessed Day 🙏🏽
