Freeze a bottle of saltwater. Take the cap off and set it in the bucket once the water starts getting hot. It will cool your bucket down and add fresh saltwater as it evaporates.
I like to freeze up plastic bottles of water, used coke, or Gatorade bottles the night before. When i get live bait I’ll drop that frozen bottle in to keep the water cool longer.
I fished today. I had about 30 finger mullet in a 5 gallon bucket. Mine were on the small side 2-3" I kept the bucket about half full of water and kept them out of direct sunlight. I also use 2 aerators. Didn't lose any. I will also throw a larger mullet in if I can to keep the water moving.
I use a bubbler that i mounted onto a small cooler. Drilled a hose near the top where i ran the line through. I attached a 3 inch bubbler circle stone at the bottom. Keeps bait alive 12+ hours easily!
If I know I'm not going to be able to change the water I'll add a cap of ammonia detoxifier to extend the life of my bait. Found at any aquarium store.
Looks easy enough I like the simplicity of it. I built a small live well out of a marine cooler, fish saver aeration pump, and a deer feeder battery. The ice chest is small enough to fit in the back of my hobie, it’ll keep bait alive all day. Bought everything at Wally World for under $50. Allot cheaper than the hobie live well.
The more bubbles the better ... larger stones can help, but a huge one strains the pump ... detoxifier keeps the PH in check ... and once you're on the water, adding fresh is a cinch.
Can't over load the bucket with bait. Keep the air going and cool the water down every so often and they'll keep for a couple days. Don't really need to change the water out although it does help.
A tie I will tell you something about that book it now if you take that book it after you come home at night every we go out at night and Ketchum you can put it in a laundry Room or something more they stay cool in the house are going oh put a little eyes pack around only in another put ice in another book it and put on Room though stay cooler longer and those state these young people mall night in that bucket talk to you later bye
Trash Can Bucket Topper was my nickname in college.

That's the smartest idea I've heard regarding bait. I can't wait to try it!

Sick vid. Live mullet always do great with that lid. I think because the mesh is see through, it keeps the mullet much calmer. 👍

Prefect video... I just updated my live well/ aeration pump and gonna be doing a couple test runs to see how long my bait will stay alive...
I may be switching to that for the summer. Try and get a bite going.
Add ice pack or frozen water bottle to keep em cool. Not my idea others do it.
Thats exactly what I do.. works like a charm.

Nice job god bless
Another great idea Ty!
How is it fishing a mullet out without taking the topper off? I was looking at doing the same thing.
Easy. Just put hand thru hole and grab one
In Texas mine will stay alive as long as that bubbler is still going.
Mullet can breathe air, as long as the water doesn’t get too hot or toxic they live a long time.
😀😎 Good video, Ty, how bout an update on ur new investment property? Keep'em coming TNT Gang! 👍👍👏✝⚜🎣☮🇺🇸
By the way, that was world class on casting the cast net, maybe a video in the future?
10/4 on both sir
Let's go
Seems to do what’s it’s supposed to do.
Small frozen water bottle in the bucket helps keep them cooler and thus alive longer but that’s Coonass knowledge you probably already have 👍🏻
