  • In this video, I talk about how to keep your bait alive while pier fishing. We venture out to the Skyway State fishing pier to tangle with some grouper. First, we have to catch some juicy baitfish. I am using a Yeti bucket which is insulated to help regulate water temps in the heat of summer. I then use a 12-volt power bubbler and my 12AH ReBel Battery which seem to last forever. I used to use the small mobile bubblers that take D batteries but I found that they CONSTANTLY stop working and you really chew through some batteries. This setup will last many years to come and it will save you money in the long run. Sabiki up fresh bait and fish on! If you like this video please like, share, and subscribe. It was so cool to see you out there! Thanks so much for all the tips and tricks. We have just recently started going to the skyway and discovered your videos after our first trip. Our catches keep getting better after learning more from your videos. We waited out the storm the other day and landed a nice Spanish mackerel right after, and saw some guys pulling in some nice mangrove snapper as well.

    I've ditched the battery bubbles as well. I use a similar one and it works so much better. Getting rid of the ammonia is as crucial as water temp and air flow. Do those three things and you'll be fishing and not catching bait constantly.
    Hope the Salty Scales fam is doing well. 🤙🤙

    I agree with your cheap bubbler thoughts. I still keep one as a backup but use a similar setup to yours with aquarium air pumps. Works great.

    I made a portable aerator box out of that same bubbler, a LiPO4 battery and an ammo box. They work great

    Best Bait setup on the pier. TBH you really don't need much more. Maybe a 10-gallon bucket. But this is a minimalist setup.

    Awesome video captain. It’s that time of the year where we all struggle to keep bait alive

    Well I thought you were get all crazy and say you were putting up a solar panel 🤔 or hooking up a scuba tank to the air stone , or off of a spare tire , ( Chris probably tried it already 🤪. ) Judging from the wind at the end of the video , a wind generated air pump ! 👍🏼. Brilliant!

    That setup looks great. How long will the Power Bubbles machine last on one battery until you have to recharge it again? Thanks.

    Great video!! Was looking to go out to the skyway pier for the first time what type of rod or rods would you suggest bringing? Most of my rods are 7 to 76 medium powers quarter to an ounce. I’m getting a Fenwick elite tech rated 3/4 to 3oz would those be ok? Thanks for any advice

      Sounds like you have setups that will do the job. I'm going to put together a video specifically for the pier.

    Good set up to look into..how do you change the battery? And do you recommend the lcd version or just regular 12v?

  • @itbeginx

    Idk about this one it is a 130$ setup vs Total about 19$ (8.88$ aerator at walmart/amazon and about 10$ batteries). I have had one bubbler died on me so a total of 30$. If that 60$ 12V bubbler dies it is a another 60$ to replace. Although I have to admit if you fishing with a group of friends and holding a big live well, it is better.

      Difference in someone who fishes a few times per year and someone who fishes five times per week. 👍

    • @itbeginx
      @itbeginx Рік тому

      @@Saltyscales You're right xD about once or twice per month only. But yes, if you run it 8hrs per day for 5x/week yes that's definitely a power house for keeping live baits.

    That lane looked like 8” but are you allowed to use undersized for bait?

    Hi Josh, believe it when I say it can get hot even up in N/E Ohio. If we are going to be out for a long day we put a 5 gal. pail inside a muck bucket etc, www.walmart.com/search/?query=muck%20bucket or something similar and put ice around the pail. Keeps the bait cool for quite a long time. You can also take the pail out and fill the bucket with ice to keep bottles and cans cold for a party. Also on ebay you can buy Large air stones for 10 to 20 dollars for two. Hope it helps. Take Care and God Bless

    Adding a couple drops of Seachem Prime helps as well (I have seen you use this as well). I also use a sponge filter which will filter and aerate. I attached a video to help you out. This system works great for me. I hope this helps. ua-cam.com/video/yQSI-3rUsIs/v-deo.html

    Everything you said or did in this video is IMMEDIATELY discredited due to the fact that you ACTUALLY paid yeti $40 for a bucket........

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  3 роки тому +2

      I'd spend it again too. I've gotten way more than $40 worth out of that bucket. 👍
