This is an extra video as we wanted to make people aware of what can happen when you're overnighting in a layby, particularly at this time of year. November and Bonfire Night.
We have wild camped, free camped, parked up off grid, whatever you want to call it, for coming up to 5 years and we have never experienced anything more than a horn bib or a knock on the door.
It has always been OK, and if we haven't felt safe then we've moved on, but on this occasion we felt fine and we've overnighted there before, so we didn't expect any trouble.
Unfortunately, we didn't have a quiet night on this occasion and we ended up having to move on in the pitch black approaching midnight.

Thank you so much. It is stressful moving on at night like that. People certainly are dangerous with fireworks and have no clue as to the harm they could be causing. We could have a heart condition for all they know or a petrified dog on board. They just don't care.

Hate fireworks! Don’t understand why anyone would do that! Especially if they’re old enough to have a car, you’d think they’d have better things to entertain them themselves with at that age 🤷‍♀️ Glad you were able to move on & had a quiet night, I wouldn’t have stayed either. Em 💜

Why doesn’t Wales have proper areas for motorhomes to park, that are safe and have the necessary services like other European countries? The provision is abysmal and too often people are subject to aggression and threats. What an unfriendly place. Good way to lose tourist revenue in Wales

    • @roaminginraymond

Powys council allow overnight parking for free in their car parks, although the only facilities are toilets, but we've used these and some are in lovely locations. It was Karl and it was in his works van about 8 years ago. He had to move his van for days after incase they recognised it on his drive and came back to try and rob his tools or retaliate. Scumbags. I live in Wales & I go to different places in Wales on the weekends to go walking & riding.
In south Wales in a public car park (free from 6PM to 8AM) on the first night at around midnight a car pull up at the back of my motorhome playing it's music really loud 😡
Good job I was still awake.
I put my headphones on & keep watching my film 😁
Then on the second night around 1.30 AM (I think it was the same car ?) 😡 came back & did the same again. I got up made a coffee & waited for them to go & I set down the motorhome & started to drive home.
Then 2 weeks ago I went to mid west Wales & pulled up in the dark at a lovely quiet parking place & around 9 PM
Someone decided to go back & forth on the road beeping the horn 😡 so headphones on & watched a film 😉
    It happens every were.
I was in Bishop's Castle last week for one night meeting up with friends for the night.
When I got up in the morning I seen a tube of vaseline on the floor by my motorhome that was not there the night before 🤔 then on a walk around the motorhome I see 2 big lumps of vaseline that had be chucked at the side of the motorhome 😡
Just kids being d**ks in the first one.
Don't know what was going on with the second one 🤢

They left eventually though and we stayed put as we felt safer with other vans there. Dread to think what the vaseline was for in your incident. Probably doggers 😂 We love Wales, it's beautiful and the people are welcoming on the whole. Idiots everywhere unfortunately. I don't think the UK has the right mentality for wild camping. It a shame young people are not forced to do national service anything to get them off the streets until they are at least 25 years old and if you think the police will help forget it, that same road is full of North Wales police on a Sunday so they can catch speeding bike's, yet any other time the nearest policeman will be 100 miles away.
Personally I would never wild camp in the UK, but that is easy for me because the wife and I moved to France 10 years ago with our Motorhome and over in France it's like stepping on to another planet if you have a van. Glad you are both safe.

@@roaminginraymond Sadly it seems good parents like you guys are becoming less and less, I get the feeling the bad kids are only there because it's a way to get benefits for the single mum brigade and the useless lazy dad's. Another story.
I tend to think it's because the places to park for free or reduced cost have access to these kids and as you say if you say something to the Police they don't care so they basically they have no one to stop them and even if you tell the police they will probably say "well sir you are not meant to park the night there anyway, go to a camp site"
The difference in France is Motorhomes have always had places to park over 6000 plus in France half of them free, So it's part of the culture and the police would do something if you had problems because you have a legal right to be there for the night.
You must try France sometime, what you spend on the ferry you will get back because you can use free motorhomes park ups. Glad you are both well and the van is not damaged.

Omg! Just caught this latest video. Must have been really disturbing for you 😱.
I know fireworks seem to have a lawlessness effect on people but to actually target folk and aim at them?!
I think you should def get these cameras for around the outside of your van as at least you would be able to see all around what was going on. As you know we had a disturbing experience once and we couldnt see what was going on as right behind the van in a blind spot. Alan mounted more cameras to give a view all around and wired them into his existing system to give a split view one screen of all angles. The cameras fit very neatly...like wee limpets....to the van without taking the look away. Its a bit of peace of mind and you can decide if you need to drive off without making yourself vulnerable in having to get out to investigate. The limpets are from the same site that your unfortunate drone that bit the dust came from 😂 but these perform really well and are of good quality. Alan will be in touch to give you the low down on his system.
    Glad you are safe ❤

Well I didn't even notice the cameras on Alan's van so they definitely must look pretty stealth! We definitely had to move on as it just isn't worth hanging around. We had a quiet night in the end which was good.

They fired it at the motorhome in our opinion as the bangs were definitely outside the van, not in the air, but none the less, we wasn't going to stay around. It just wasn't worth the risk.

At first we thought it was just stupid idiots setting off fireworks in the dark, but when they are definitely banging right outside your van, you know they are doing it at you and are doing it at you on purpose. Have to agree, they are just idiots with no thought of what potential danger they put us in. I'm just glad it wasn't just me in my little camper. I'd have been petrified and wouldn't want to move on as I hate driving in the dark, but I'd have had no choice like we didn't. Better to move than be a sitting target. It is scary and glad these things happening to people are few and far between.

Maybe if you supported the local community the local community wouldnt feel like you are taking the pee! that you actually are turning up in massive self contained vans, Instead of parking up on campsites you block local spots and farmland because you are too cheap to pay a few quid to a campsite If you done this in a tent no bother but you are flaunting the rules! so it's on you!!

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond  10 місяців тому +5

Maybe if you watched some of our other videos you'd know that we do use campsites. We also don't block parking spaces or farmland and how are we blocking a really long layby at 11pm! Throwing fireworks at a vehicle with occupants inside or empty is not justified under any circumstances and if you think it's an OK thing to do, then you really are a narrow minded sad little bigot.
