In time, you will know the tragic extent of my failings...
I was lord of this place... Before the crows, and rats, made it their domain.
Richard Vlášek The degeneracy of the Hamlet is nothing, I fear, when compared to the condition of surrounding acres.
Once, our estate was the envy of this land...
I always end up staying at the Hamlet screen for a longer time than necessary just to listen to the song. Games, no matter how good their mechanics are, are NOT the same without good music and art, so thank you for such an incredible part of what the game is. All of the songs really set the mood and I'd never get tired of listening.
I wholehearted agree. Games are not the same without good music. I try to write memorable melodies instead of background music.
Stuart Chatwood well you have done that.. You’re inspiring...
Music tells its own story.
Music does give life this game, which makes shieldbreaker's nightmare much more unsettling
The calm before and after the storm.
The hope, in the eye of the hurricane. The despair, once the tornado has passed.
It’s haunting and yet incredibly calm. This track just shows how far this Hamlet has fallen, how dismal things have become, and yet it’s relaxing melody keeps us at ease as we rebuild the village.
Thanks for checking out all the music and leaving a comment. This track is so soothing. One of my favorites.
Thanks for listening! Leave a comment if you want to hear more...
Great work!
That's so epic!
Great stuff Stuart, personal favourites are the Ruins combat theme and exploring the Ruins in 0 light
Stuart Chatwood Your music give me real feeling od doom, anger, sadness, depression, melancholy, pain of existence...wow thank You, this is enough proof that You are huge talented artist.
Stuart Chatwood Masterfully executed!
I want this to be played at my funeral.
This would make for a sad day but as you wish.
"Welcome home, young master, such as it is. This squalid hamlet, these corrupted lands; they are yours now, in deed and title, and you are bound to them, by fate and folly."
This theme is actually my favorite part of the whole game, really ties together the whole hopeless feel. I can't help but be reminded of Valkyrie Profile, when you're in an impoverished town or when a new character is reflecting on their life.
What's wild about this piece is that it feels way longer than it is... or it's hard to measure time passing. Very fitting for such a dark game concept. I can't stop listening
very observant. the goal was to put you in a mode immediately.
This theme.. is my nervousness before a dungeon and my devastated feeling after many a dungeon... great work 10/10.
RIP my party of maxed champions....
Thanks for listening...
HAMLET SWEET HAMLET
Thanks for stopping by...
Our family name, once so well-regarded, is now barely whispered aloud by decent folk.
You answered the letter...Now, like me, you are a part of this place.
Pro tip: never turn off the music... of the Darkest Dungeon.
the weary leave
the tired stay
but shadows listen
Excellent soundtrack for this game - be it combat, exploring or "peaceful" hamlet, everything is spot on. The music supports the mood of this game flawlessly.
After all these years I am still listening this music, it is depressing and chilling at the same time. After being tired or heavenly depressed, this one always calms me for some reason.
I guess it is true masterpiece.
"Welcome home. Such as it is. This squalid Hamlet, this corrupted lands-they are yours now and you are bound to them."
This stuff is so grim and dark, I love it!
al Theodore yes it is dark...but in darkness, we see light.
I already left a comment but I can't stop listening to this piece. Never in my entire life playing games and listening to their outstanding soundtracks, was I drawn to a song more than this one. It just - draws so many feelings out. Fear, sadness, loneliness, inspiration, and hope. Describing the emotion in this song is hard and there is so many feelings radiating from this to name. It radiates the clandestine and dark mood of the hamlet - and the game itself. Putting a Crusader in the Abby feels more impactful than the game portrays, improving the Highwayman's pistol at the blacksmith feels like a blessing to lessen the already strenuous journeys he takes on a expedition to the cove, having a Man-at-arms drink his horrid memories of trauma away - and all others, is absolutely heightened by this piece Mr. Chatwood. In my eyes, you have created something that makes something as simple as going to a bar for a hero's relief something more than just a mechanic, it feels like a story is being written before my eyes. Absolutely incredible, I applaud you and your work. Thank you :-)
This song aged like fine wine! 9 years and still slaps! This and “A Brief Respite”, so good! Whole album, chefs kiss
God, this song is so amazing. Gives me chills down my spine!
Mike Pajic thanks for listening. This was one of my favorite tracks as well.
This is always the song to calm me down after seeing a level 3 plague doctor die. It also stresses me out. *ba dum tsst*
But yes, amazing work. 5 stars.
I just started playing this game for the first time earlier this week, andl one thing i noticed immediately was the great music! Definitely one of my all time favourite soundtracks already, it just sets the mood perfectly
Glad you enjoy it!
At first I thought this is from World of Warcraft
For me this song conveys dread and melancholy...
I love it. Thank you Stuart Chatwood.
My favorite piece from the game. A wonderful mix of despair and hope, pride and regret, communion and resentment. I love it and listen to it constantly in game, to reflect on my situation, to carefully choose what to upgrade... to possibly give time to my chosen characters to say their goodbyes, should they meet their doom.
I know I'm really late to the party, but it's really big of you to upload the soundtrack for our enjoyment, mr. Chatwood. I knew your name was familiar, and I'm sure you're sick of hearing it now but I really liked your Prince of Persia compositions as well.
I can't wait to hear more of your works in Darkest Dungeon 2.
Thanks for the kind words. More music coming in 2020!
This is the song that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of resignation. Beautiful
A Great composition. A glimmer of hope in a fearfull and desperate world. Very nostalgic tune.
Thank you for this. I love how it sounds so natural and yet incredibly sad. If only all video games had such beautiful soundtracks.
Thanks for listening and commenting.
if all games had music of the most magnificent grandeur, the exotic would probably go mundane
The minute I was introduced to this theme, I knew the soundtrack would not once fail.
It's beautiful, powerful.. meaningful, truly a marvelous OST for a terrific masterpiece!
Thank you for all the soundtracks for this game! More than worthy to buy the collection!
I can not close this soundtrack. Very impressive. Like a atmospheric black metal music. Suffer and pain everywhere but there is hope in our hearts. Thanks a lot Stuart.
One of the only video game OST tracks that I always hum along with. It captures such a unique, beautiful feeling of sadness. Like the calm after a storm that destroyed everything. Absolutely amazing.
This is a remarkeable piece of work, it realy catches the feel of "The Darkest Dungeon", I think you should post some of the other themes you made. I hope you keep on doing the great work you do.
This is a beautiful piece. Thank you.
Eerie yet beautiful. A wonderful piece forthe hamlet. Thank you so much for your work, this game would NOT be the same without you!
Just wow, you are so damn talented to be able to make such moving music, its so soothing and chilling at the same time
This is a true musical masterpiece, Mr.Chatwood! Your talent and passion for music shine brilliantly in this composition. It's like a captivating journey through emotions and storytelling with musical notes.Your unique gift enriches our lives, and I can't wait to see what other musical wonders you create. Congratulations on this extraordinary masterpiece! I usually come here from time to time to listen to your wonderful work!
a brief respite from the madness and misery, but don’t grow too comfortable you’ll soon depart for insanity once more, there is work to be done.
I cannot wait to see what Stuart Cha(d)twood has in store for us in the new DD when it releases on steam in 2023. Not many composers have made me wait with baited breath until their next releases.
Love the "Headquarters" soundtracks for games with a tactical and strategic layer, be it XCom or Darkest Dungeon. They somehow always manage to perfectly encapsulate the feeling for preparing for the next battle, recovering from the previous or just in reminding the player of the long path ahead
5 years
Ups and downs
Tears and joy
From day one building my team up
Built myself up as well listening to this in the back of my mind
And all-time great piece of music
I really do love you this. Thanks!
This often sends chills down my spine... thank you! Fantastic melody
This one is in my top 5 for sure.
Beautiful piece!
Whether the band of mercenaries returns from the expedition victorious, laden down with treasures and the thrills of combat, or stagger back with their minds asunder from horrors untold, slickened with blood and harried by terrible injuries, or even worse.. don't return at all.. it will always be to this hamlet, and its possibilities of a chance to strike back against the ebon madness that leaks jet-crimson from the grounds surrounding the Estate, and possibly heal that foul wound on these lands someday. Perhaps that, itself, is a comfort of sorts.
Love this track and it's my favorite so far in the whole game.
I recently started playing darkest dungeons (about 2-3ish weeks ago)
and ive fallen in love with the game
the artstyle and gameplay was something ive never seen
and the music was the cherry ontop of the cake
this music especially brings on a different meaning depending on the scene
It feels much more unnerving whenever youre about to take on a hard dungeon
but it feels much more calming when the storm has passed
This music resonates with me for several reasons, thank you
This song is quite relaxing, perfect for ruminating over your team composition before a brutal mission
"Hello my friend! Stay a while and listen."
Sorry wrong game.
“Hello my friend! Stay awhile and listen!”
"Drink, dice, or god. I care not, so long as it distracts me."
Let me share with you the terrible wonders I have come to know...
This OST should’ve really been called ”Your Hamlet”
Calming, yet creepy, the perfect combination for this unfair game of life or death, where not all is as it seems, and the mystery goes deeper than you firsth thought
my favorite from the hole game, it's just perfect
Well done, you made it. Take a nap if you want.
such a beautiful piece
Thank you! Cheers!
Great!
ah yes Hamlet.... mixed feelings about this music its so peaceful and tragic at the same time, well i guess thats just actually Hamlet itself
Great music for Ravenloft ambience. :)
madseason anyone?
nice art
In time, I have learned the full extent of my fascination, for this song.
@Stuart Chatwood, Can we have a live concert for this soundrack someday? :)
Very impressive work M.Chatwood.
Some of the best soundtrack for a video game I've heard.
I was happlly surprised when I discovered you were from The Tea Party !!. (old fan)
Those developpers made the best choice they could with you doing the music for the game.
I'm just wondering why there is no Music by Stuart Chatwood from The Tea Party nowhere in the marketing material...
Again, masterfully done sir !
+Infotechmobile | Reparation Ordinateur Montreal Thanks for the kind words!
In time you will know the tragic extend of my failing
straight up heat man wtfffff
This reminds Me of my childhood
1:00 But, maybe there's hope. Maybe I can help others....
"In time, you will come to know the tragic extent of my failings..."
the sound of safety
"More arrive, foolishly seeking fortune and glory in this domain of the damned."
I listen that and... want The Art Decay project. Yes, The Tea Party is my favorite number one band, but so few of your individual sound. Apart from games, the soundtrack of which crazy. My brain will explode if I wait for the opus The Art Decay. Sorry for bad English, I'm Russian.
DD is one of the few games that makes you feel uneasy yet feel bliss with its dark style of art and its amazing Soundtrack by Chatwood, I just feel like writing a poem based off of this very song. One thing that is uncertain is what character to portray? Whom to choose for this little story, In the land of the damned.
Let us know when you post the poetry!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
@@StuartChatwood indeed I shall let you know when I post it
Update it is done instagram.com/p/CJb255cB-UE/?igshid=147go8g87n30y
This used to be my morning alarm in highschool :'D
Nice way to wake up. It might traumatize me as I would be brought back to the recording session and hearing it 600 times...
Masterpiece
+Esteban Canete Thanks for your kind words. I will be launching the sound track later this spring to coincide with the PS4/Vita launch of the game.
+Stuart Chatwood You're welcome, thank you for this in the first place. Isn't the soundtrack already available on Steam ? I'm glad that the game will launch on Vita, I'll probably buy it to play everywhere.
whats the name of this type of music? I like it so much
I'm really interested about your work for Darkest Dungeon. When I've started listening to this very piece, Motoi Sakaruba's work came to my mind but not the one he has done for Dark Souls but his compositions for Valkyrie Profile (1999). Is there any influence from this old videogame? Thank you in advance.
I don't listen to game music generally as I'm quite busy sorting out my own ideas. I have heard good things about the Dark Souls music so I'll have to check it out.
Maybe life in the hamlet isn't that bad when it's rich fully upgraded with all the districts, maybe people could life happily of sorts even with evil at their doorstep
Perhaps things aren't as bad as they seem mhmhwahahahahaha...
Ruin has come to our family
A singular strike
Your music is really awesome, I think if there wasn't your music as an OST, the game never reached this popularity.
PS : My english is bad lmao
MAN! this makes me think of wasting all my money by putting my heroes in the sanitarium after a trip to the Warrens
Now, like me, you are a part of this place.....
Mr Stuart Chatwood i just realised this soundtrack sounds familiar to soundtrack from realy old game called 101 Airborne: The Invasion of Normandy. Its the same excatly same soundtrack.
Both songs are slow string pieces in minor keys which makes them similar. If I drew the notes on a staff you’d see a huge difference.
You sent me to UA-cam to hunt it down. Also a nice piece of music.
@@StuartChatwood thankies for answering im just a huge pasionate ^^ i was thinking maybe it was an inspiration for soundtrack. It gives same horror and misery interpretation.
@@f3ar298 Thanks for the support. New music soon!
Very good, not my style tho.
Anyway I will just love automatically every Chatwood composition. Prince of Persia soundtrack left me so much amazed that I keep listening almost every day still now (so bad that the original iTunes tracks are not extended...)
this shows how far quality on roblox fell
정신이 피폐해지는 느낌이지만 좋다 마약같이
Are you doing the scoring for the sequel as well Stuart?
Yes! Soundtrack is out this week!
this game is fantastic, it is a better version of the old school games : ISHAR .... this is awesome ! It only miss some sexy badass blond characters and barbarians , and snakemens ... etc etc ... thanks for this great game. Cant wait for the second tome .
