Great video. You did a lot of legwork for anyone else wanting to upgrade their sub. I have a Monolith 10" sub- I wonder how your upgraded JBL would compare for roughly the same price.
I was literally watching your other video on this sub today and was thinking to myself, "wonder when the next one is coming out?". And low and behold, here we are! Lol This sub is on sale for 149 right now been reading/watching up on it
You're the first to ask about part 3 in quite a while so I completely forgot about it. Work has been crazy busy. I will make a note of it to do a part 3 with a SPL test.
Well I went ahead and picked up the SDX10 myself. Will be removing the JBL sub and looking over the enclosure today. I might do a little modification to the enclosure but I haven’t decided just yet. Will start looking for a new amp to run it. I have two different thoughts right now. Find a plate amp that I can install. Or, seal up the cabinet using MDF that I can cut to fit the opening. Then I can find a rack amp. I already have a few thoughts on those if I go that route.
Nice! I think you will really enjoy the upgrade. I know I did. The SDX10 driver in the JBL cabinet makes for a great musical subwoofer. Where did you get the SDX10 driver at? Other youtubers were telling me they discontinued that driver. If it were me, seal up the cabinet so you can get the extra volume (it will lower Qtc) and get yourself a rack mount amplifier.
@@generationbehindhifi I got it directly from CSS. They did discontinue the “old” SDX10. I contacted them and they said they were releasing an updated version. I don’t know yet how the specs differ from the previous version. It was $325 shipped to me so the price is definitely higher now. But yeah, I will probably install it and use it with the oem amp for now and later I will most likely seal it up.
@@doctoryip1 I have a SVS SB12-NSD and I just put in an order for 2 of these JBL's for stereo subs. I'll let you know how they compare, but the SB12-NSD has a world class Peerless XXLS driver in it that is probably the most musically articulate driver I've ever heard for a subwoofer. I liked it so much I bought another standalone driver for mobile audio use. I'm not sure which driver they use now in their SVS 12" sealed lines, but they still look similar to the Peerless. I'm hoping the JBL's sound just as good, considering the reviews of people who have had both say the JBL is 80-90% of a SVS SB12 in both output and quality.

I looked up the current prices for all the hardware and prices jumped 50%, I was thinking of attempting this same project. 😎👍
Thanks! I said it a few times in this video. It's a Creative Sound Solutions SDX10.
What are the dimensions on the replacement amp? Will that work as a drop in replacement?
I'm not aware of any drop in fit plate amps for the 550P.
Where is your P3/3 video? Looking for it!
Hi Jag! I haven't released part 3 yet. I'm a bit behind because of work. Sorry man! I will try and get it out soon and I appreciate the support!
One tipp for using winisd. Don't look at the transfer function graph but rather the spl graph, as the transfer function might be misleading.

Guess there was never a part 3 ?

Did you try Just Audio located in Maryland?
It wasn't me. I have never heard of them. What makes you say that?
I had thought you were asking about a place that could possibly work on your bash amp
@@Audiomainia2310 Oh! Sorry! I have made so many videos its hard to keep track what I said in each of them. Thanks! I'll give them a try.
@@generationbehindhifi No problem - I love the work you do / I'm recommending you to my contacts.
@@Audiomainia2310 I really appreciate the kind words! Thank you!

Can you please provide the T/S parameters you found with your DATS, for the stock JBL 550P driver?
I'm pretty sure I provided them in Part 1 of this series?

Which would be better for movies? 2 stock JBLs or one of your upgraded ones? I’m considering cost. My room is 15’ wide by 25’ deep. Thx guru!
Probably two stock JBLs. You will get a lot more piston area with two subwoofers vs one.
@@generationbehindhifi thx! any downside to 2 of these? Will the lows compare to a single 12” SVS quality sub?
