That's probably the best production I have ever seen for a diy build and you do a very good job explaining.
Thank so much Bostonblessed.
one of the best diy videos I've ever seen. Made me want to do it immediately
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching :)
Nice build. Love DIY audio, so immediately subscribed. Very high production value of the video!
I think a little bracing wouldn't have hurt
"No, that's stupid", gave me a good giggle there pal
Haha thanks for watching @tmister007
Klipsch is shaken by this woofer. 😃
Beautiful subwoofer, you got me all inspired to build my own !! thank you...
Another banger! Beautiful work as always.
Thanks Brother 🙏
I have this same sub and amp combo myself. I really like how effortlessly this thing plays low bass. It destroys my Klipsch 12" powered sub I spent good money on.
Fantastic diy sub video. Love the measurement comparison of well known reference subs. Props 👍
Thanks for watching
When applying a wood veneer, it's good the day before to go and flatten the veneer as much as possible with weight like books. Be careful to not crack the veneer and add too much weight.
Awesome thanks @johannjohann6523!
Really impressive work and production. What a fun hobby.
Thanks for watching @MrRonnmaui
Outstanding work…. Can’t wait for more videos like this!
Получилось весьма гармонично и толково. Мне понравились изделие и подача материала. Приятно смотреть - Спасибо!
I'm starting my build next week 🎉 YAY
It's like the why files for music enthusiast! .. very informative ..👍
Awesome video! Love the step by step
Thanks for watching @jorgem50
ive used the 8" version of the Dayton reference and it is an exceedingly smooth and musical subwoofer. just the 8" plays well down into the 20's!
Nice detailed video. Thanks. IT gave me some ideos.💪🙂
I think you did build a better subwoofer than Klipsch. Yours is definitely more attractive. Nice job.
I use this sub lots... Very fast and accurate. It can dig very low with authority. My personal systems all use this driver.
Great looking build.
Thanks @fredthompson1279
Like the rounded port
Good quality work
Great video! Your mixing of all the audio was equal level! So many youtubers have a crazy loud intro then their voice sounds like a whisper after you jumped and ran to turn the volume down. I had some bad experiences ordering some Parts Express speakers and plate amps like 20 years ago. Now I do not mess around. I use only Crown XLS amps whenever I want to build another sub setup.
yeah, it's because he understands levels, eq, and he cares. excellent qualities for an audio yt channel imho!
If you put threaded inserts in the back of the baffle you can use them as clamps to pull it down while glue is drying on fixing to the front (or not glue it). This is a nice way of doing the front baffle for perfect alignment - especially if you have oversized it a bit for a shadow line or some such :).
I had a double thickness baffle - so I lay one layer on the front of sub where it was to attach, drilled holes through both.
Place threaded inserts in the baffle, then glue the two baffle layers together and do the finishing (threaded inserts exposed out the back).
Great call. I’ll try that next time. Thanks for the advice
I worked at a cabinet shop in dallas tx that used veneer skins and we were made to attach or apply the skins with spray adhesive and used a fine bastard file to cut and finish the edges it was super simple but took some practice
using a climb cut when flushing veneer helps a lot with tearout IME
Buen contenido, gracias por los datos y por ser realista con la prueba de sonido 🤣😂
That does look really nice man
Thanks Larry. Appreciate it.
Wood glue and water works for a lot of stuff, most of all it’s really good as a bonding layer, especially between incompatible chemicals. I’ve used wood glue as a primer to spray paint polystyrene foam with solvent heavy polyurethane spray paint. The trick when adding water is remember a little bit of water goes a long way, and that it’s difficult to be consistent with it. I use an empty inkjet refill syringe to test the thickness of it. If the blunt needle can suck it up then it’s thin enough, if it can’t then I add more water. I add just enough so that it can draw, not a drop more.
Vectorworks! 😁 4:20
First I want to just say the quality of your video is so top notch I have really watched it a few times. The way you speak, your angles and your transitions. Just A+ and how its suppose to be done in my opinon.
2nd the sub design is amazng. So much I am following your build for my own. May I ask what software you did the design in? Is it in Sketch Up? If so do you share your Sktchup files? If not I understand.
Great video. This seems a bit more newb friendly than the previous..
Very nice content :) I love how you build custom speakers :) (klipsch fanboy here 😅) i use a pretty high end headset when listening to these so a recommendation... Do a 'with sub / wo sub' comparison with the same song :) I love to hear the difference :)
Thanks for the props and thanks for watching. That’s a good idea for a short. I’ll try and put something like that together for some future content.
Subscribed. Nice build. Between you and Toids I’m gonna have plenty of builds. How well would this work as a sealed build? I like the look of it. Probably need more internal bracing as a sealed. Would this woofer work in a sealed environment. ? More for a dedicated 2 channel setup. Anyway, great video , clean production and good narrative.
Hey Kodiak. Thanks for watching. This driver will work in a sealed box. Dayton recommends an internal volume of 0.53 ft3.
Sound quality for this video was good and you have nice microphones. That works, and good video. Cool sub. It seems really the big difference between building your own instead purchasing a sub is the outer appearance. This sub looked pretty good. But are you looking t it or listening to it? I'd be happy if it sounded great rather than looked great so DIY is I think a good way to increase performance.
imo, as far as not being well suited for some genres of music, just adjust the volume and or frequency on the amp higher or lower. I have a Polk Audio sub and this works just fine for me.
Hey man, excellent video! Enclosure came out very nice! Like the editing style as well.
Curious if youve done tests between going only to 2000 grit vs 5000? Since you're applying another top coat (instead of polishing the finish) you may not need to go as smooth to get your final coat looking good. Shoot, we only went to 2000 before cutting and polishing cars when i was doing them 😅 may save you some time?
Also, if it measured better... I'd say you built a better sub 😉 well done!
Yeah this is the first time I’ve gone all the way to 5000 grit. My brother swears by doing it this way so I thought I’d give it a go :). I’ve made some other furniture using 2000 to smooth out the finish nearly identical but there is a slight difference…even if it’s in our heads lol.
Thanks for watching @LifeofBliss .
how you power the sub and make sure its in tune with you speakers ?
Huge bass 😂😂
What is the dimensions of this amazing subwoofer box
id say you did actually make a better sub than the klipsch , specially if your other speakers have good low end down to about 80hz,
Nice job! I just would not put the amplifier in the same sub acoustic volume. To much vibrations . Best regards, Toni from Brazil.
A little off topic but… where did you get that cardigan?
Try using threaded inserts next time for ease of access if for some reason its In need of modificatoin
That is absolutely a beautiful furniture grade sub cabinet. I enjoyed the build. Why are you using foam in the cabinet? I was taught to use an amplifier with at least double the rms of the speaker, so you have some clean dynamic headroom for the speaker. Anyway, great vid
Hey thanks for watching. I went with foam based off of products I’ve had using similar material. As for the amp. You’re probably right but the combo I’m using is giving me great results.
Did you factor in port air velocity? Sub-box Pro will give you the correct length for vents, but that's it. Great build but port chuff is an easy way to ruin a subwoofer.
Hey rohcycling5646. Thanks for watching. I was fortunate that there is little to no chuffing with this design. I’d be lying if I said air velocity was a consideration :). That’s the best thing about DIY builds always something new to learn and consider. Thanks
Hi
I buy the same bash but sound low vol
Maybe i need new av receiver?? The receiver i use is old and maybe 25w or the woofer box is small
And how set phase and freq?? Thanks
A few cross braces would have been beneficial to the tightness of sound. Yes, it’s audible.
У вас очень круто получается, хотелось стать вашим ученником
What software do you use to 3d model the box? Would like to cut the box with a CNC.
I use vectorworks.
@Chris Ferris just rewatched the video and realized you mentioned the software already. You must do this for a living considering its price. Unless you have a trick for all of us on how to get it cheaper. 😉😉
@@MrBroly10000 I use this software for live production work so the license is paid for. There are other platforms like “Sketchup” for example that you can draw in and get the same results. To be honest there probably better suited for this type of stuff :).
Is the driver a single or dual voice coil driver?
Hey, thanks for watching. Dayton Audio says it’s a 4 layer single coil.
What's making the Klipsch better than yours? More controlled bass? Quicker?
All of the above and a legacy of R&D. But there is something special about being rocked by your own cabinet design :). Thanks for watching.
It's worth noting that more or even excessive output at deep frequencies can make a subwoofer sound "slow" or "boomy", when that is more likely a problem of the room's interaction. My guess is that objectively the Klipsch performs no better than yours with regards to transient response or damping
How much time took you the job from am A to B? Sometimes, people get delusional thinking this is a 1-2 days job... I know from experience this is not a weekend job. Anyway, nice job mate👌🙌
Thanks for watching! I did the build over about 2 weeks. Not everyday, the staining and sanding always take me the longest
@chrisferris3303 Thank you for replying to my comment 👌🙌
😂that's what she said😂
My comment made you 1k likes 👍 from 999 likes. I love it.
У меня два сабвуфера и я слышу и могу понять характер - почерк звучания акустической системы класса сабвуфер, всё-таки стоит демонстрировать работу сабвуферов, ведь не только у меня они есть.
Another person who discovered building a wood box and cutting a round hole in it is not difficult. Congrats
Nvm its a single i saw on the next part
If you have a good Hi-Fidelity Stereo or audio system at home then "Yes" you can hear the different nuances between subwoofers and speakers. However, that's assuming a good microphone is used to record the subwoofer instead of your cell phone. It's like when people may shoot a decent video with their cell at a concert, but sound quality is horrid, and you wonder "why bother" it sounds like crap.
U should try a sub with a dvc they hit much harder and play louder
looks great but your amp is underpowered. you should always use a much larger amp than the subwoofer is rated for. it's perfectly fine to have 1000W transients on a 300W RMS sub, and in fact, this is what you want. As long as, of course, they're just transients.
Unless the amp or his source has a high-pass filter, he'll be running into excursion limits at a fraction of the power, so it's unnecessary.
Regardless, if this can get as loud as he wants, more power is wasted
Agreed - I have made that mistake in car audio with even some higher end rockford fosgste amps… they will deal with clipping for only so long before both the amp and sub (jl audio!) will self destruct…. Worse: the electrical smell will be so bad you will end up throwing away the enclosure….
So lesson learned 2.5-3x the wattage I think I will need… I would rather have a blown sub than a more expensive amp!!!
Same story with brands like M-Audio - internal plate amps = garbage components made in Chinuh… you get about 5-7 years and then you’re SOL… sad because I absolutely loved the smooth sound of my m3-6’s for near field use… they were sleepers for 2013 era speakers
😂😂glue with a mask?
You built a box not a subwoofer
Thanks for watching @danielkmit4145
