Not surprised to see that amp being so large and having such thick material. They needed all of that metal for heat sinking purposes in class A/B amps. At 2 ohms almost half of the input power is being converted to heat which is hundreds & hundreds of watts. May not always be continuous depending on how bass heavy the music is but all that heat adds up over time. You either need a lot of air movement or more likely a lot of thermal mass via metal to help sink away the heat! I have a 75x2 class A/B amp from the mid 90s where the metal casing on the amp is about 1/3 larger than the circuit boards contained inside. A large reason for that was to provide more surface area for heat sinking. I can remember some multi hour car drives in the late 90s/early 2000s with that amp pounding away and it would get HOT! but never did go into thermal protect.
We had one of these newer Tarantulas and the Human Reign in our store for years. I find it funny how you said "literally doubling the other rating" like it's some "surprise". Nah man, that how amps SHOULD be. It's called "Ohms Law". When the resistance is halved, the power should double. All the new cheap ass amps that can't do that are seriously lacking on the power supply side. The amp should have enough rail voltage and current available to double the output whenever the load is halved. Man I really miss the 90's car audio. The reason there was no Soundstream in the 2002 buyers guide is that that was the year Epsilon bought them out and they started their downward spiral into cheap ass crap. Their site was MIA that year as well. It wasn't long after that that "Handcrafted in the USA" started disappearing from Soundstream products as Epsilon moved production to China and Soundstream amps turned to the same ole copycat garbage Epsilon was known for. They relaunched the Human Reign amps in 06 with a less tacky heatsink (same board but made in Korea) in 2008 they brought back the Reference series (also Korean made), they launched a new Rubicon series in 08/09 that was good. From what I've heard they actually kept on a lot of the people that were still there in 2002 and based on what they released it showed they still had people that wanted SS to be what they had always been, though it was around 2013 that Epsilon got a New CEO that was just all about the bottom line and that's when they really fell off and pretty much just became a PA rebadge.

Big d please consider the mtx 81000d
Wow. I want to see one of my MTX 92001s or TE4000s get dynoed but I can't donate them.....lol
I collect/repair all things MTX
Nice 1
2002 was a bad year for Wade Stewart and Dana Haas partnership the OG soundstream died
This amp looks like it was designed by the same guys as PPI power class amps.
big wiz- want to send an amp to dyno! mrd-m1005 alpine
👍👍
I had one about 12 years ago and let it go with my truck. Mega regret that I do.
Still trying to figure out how to send you a amp

This was the time period that most of the greats started to die off, thanks to DEI and Epsilon buying them off and shipping them to China - Soundstream, PPI, Orion, ADS, Polk, Etc
😂 Neil’s brother
What. No low impedance test 🤔😒
And right after this, Soundstream sucked the big one. And still does.
@@arnicus208 eh, that wasn't till 2013 to be fair. Under epsilon they actually released some solid stuff.
880 watts for class A/B now is now done easily by most amps these days, especially from the billy bobs flea market stand, those amps can do it easily
Is it just me or do those subs look out of phase?
I'll take a bd1k or a punch 800 over that all day long and twice on Sunday.
Me too. I never had any luck with SS amps. They always blew up. For me anyway.
Yea me too had the power 800.2 strong strong birthday sheet said about 1400. Think it was like $1000 back then
Put a kmart blue light special sparkomatic amp againts the soundstream .
That the stuff I want to see, as that is the sort of brand, me and my friends could afford at the time.
Ugh what 33 grand
If I remember correctly, it was a solid bronze casting from the original sculpture.
When I hear “Soundstream” I think gimmicky flea market special 😂. Hard pass for me
That is weak. The Directed 1100d as out at the same time would run circles around this this. Not to mention Rockford 1100a2 or Autotek Stealth
I think you're more or less buying something exclusive and beautiful. Compared to just another amp.
@@JasonWW2000 I guess. Watts per doller
@timothy5977 Yeah, if you're a watts per dollar kind of guy, this is not the amp for you. This is more for the people who want to draw a crowd and be remembered.
I dreamed of owning one of these way back then....at my pay scale back then I was lucky to have the setup I did. Linear power 2202
Power Acoustics 480?
2- Kicker C15's
2- Kicker F8's
USD Waveguide horns with USD passive crossover
Phoenix Gold EQ215x?
Huge three chamber 4th order with a blow thru in a single cab Silverado pickup.
@@timothy5977 I had a directed 1100 on a 15 inch kicker and it destroyed the little Nissan Sentra
Hifonics has always been a mid tier brand.
What's that got to do with anything?
I don't think hifonics and soundstream had merged when this amp was made. I could be wrong though a lot of companies went belly up in the early 2000's
Agreed upper low to mid level.
@@JasonWW2000 What does you comment mean?
@alphaomega8373 The video is about Soundstream and Jody's comment is about Hifonics. No relation. Why bring up a different brand? No one mentioned Hifonics in the video, did they?
Bassheads for Trump 2024
I'm pretty sure that was the year around the time they got bought out by Soundzaround.
Sound around is pyramid. I thought it was epsilon or maxxsonics that bought them
Soundstream, a well-known brand in the car audio industry, did face significant changes around 2002. The company was acquired by Power Acoustik, which led to a shift in its operations and product lines1.
