About boosting a dead battery: NEVER, EVER put the negative cable clip on the battery as you did. Discharged batteries emit hydrogen. A little spark will ignite it instantly. Disaster. You clip the negative as far as possible from the battery, on frame or engine parts. And you install the cables on the dead car FIRST then on the healthy car battery, engine non-running, you could damage/fry your alternator electronics.
Hey, I know, I live in Canada. Gets frigging cold up here sometimes. Done a lot of boosting in my 45 driving years

I saw a lady come in to our shop, with a 2012 Hyndai, It had 35k miles on it and the ORIGINAL OIL FROM THE FACTORY still in the fucking engine!!! She said she didn't Know cars needed oil changes!!! I swear to God, I'm not making this up!!! The oil was so black, it looked like Tar! We had people coming in ALL the time, with literally ZERO OIL in the engine too! Not a DROP from the filter or drain plug....Seen it with my own eyes like 10 fucking times. Most of these people drove OVER an Hour with No Oil! Just to get to our shop. (usually hondas, toyotas, 1 Chevy, and Ford E250 Van). I worked as a lube tech, and I saw SO much crazy shit, you wouldn't believe the cars were still running.

You should have mentioned that the easiest way to determine which is the positive and negative battery terminal, is the positive one is always bigger.
So ft the markings are hidden, just stand directly over the battery and look down and it's easy to see that the positive terminal is always a lot bigger than the negative :-)

Most of us know a lot of what he tells us. But he is a good regular guy and tells it like it is. Sometimes I just watch his videos because they pop up and he can remind me of different things that I forget it’s about time to do things. Like today I’m gonna get the things I need to do my trans. Fluid. And at same time check the hoses and steel lines. Cause if the hoses or lines are getting really rotted or rusted change them now before they get so bad you can’t get the fittings loose. This guy is good for keeping your vehicles in good running condition. Thanks Scotty

Hey Scotty, I'm so so sorry but I just have to prove you wrong on the first one about jump starting. When I went to school I was told never to jump start a car by connecting both of the ground (negative) terminals. Instead connect both positive terminals first and one ground terminal to the other battery and the other on a ground source (header,block,frame...etc) away from the battery. this prevents a possible hydrochloric explosion provided from the arc when connecting the ground cable to the terminal. Most vehicles nowadays have a labeled ground source post in the engine bay.

Another way to check the terminals on a battery is to follow a lead and see where is goes, if it is bolted to the cars bodywork then it is the negative terminal.

    • @Mr.M1STER

Yes, that's a good tip. Easy to see on older cars where the engine bays are less cluttered but on some modern cars the leads just head off into the abyss of plastic in modern engine bays.

HAHAHA! I was working at Moss Motors Dodge in Riverside, CA back in the late 90's. So a customer brings in his 96 RAM pickup with the 5.2L Magnum engine in because of a rough running engine. It had 42,000 miles on it. So we went out to look at the truck, pulled the oil cap off while it was running, and it blew all kinds of smoke and oil droplets out. So we pulled it into the service bay and put it up on the rack. When we looked underneath it, it still had the original oil filter from the factory. lol... The guy asked us if we would replace his engine under warranty. lol Man. I could go on all day about some of these people.

3-4k miles between oil changes is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on car owners. If you drive an old beater in the city with lots of stop and go, you might, might, need to change it at 4-5k. My 2012 Honda just had its first oil change at 8500 miles with 15% oil life remaining. Newer cars have sensors or computers to tell you when to change it. Follow it. We could save 100 million gallons of oil if we did the oil changes when we are supposed to instead of when the sellers of oil tell us to.
