Basically just change the oil 🛢 !
Scotty can an intake for a challenger be rerouted from the bottom to let's say, a headlight fixture? 😆 🐴
do you know any trustworthy mechanics in Las Vegas NV?
@@SolGonzalez-qp8od In LV that would be a gamble, wouldn't it?
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that do no maintenance at all and then wonder why things go wrong.
Right. Lol
it amazes me how concise Scotty's vids are compared to all other yt'ers. medicare, fitness, and relationship youtube videos are the worst.
Yeah, I regularly change the oil in my Tesla no more than 5,000 miles or no later than a year. The people at the service center are all like “just shut up and take her money.” Whatever they feel like doing, so long as I don’t void my warranty.
These are the same people who think 100K on a car is HIGH and too much and time to look for another NEW car. Therefore always spending $$$ on new cars after 4-5 years and thus never worrying about the neglect they did for 5 years. But they pay for it with new cars!
And get mad at the car for falling apart.
I’m 15 and I changed my grandpa’s oil in his 2011 Sienna. I feel accomplished! 😂
Great job!
Good job sir!
Good on you, bud! That’s awesome!
A mighty *Sienna??*
With that fat old 6 banger??
That's a lot of oil!
Good job, kid!
You'll feel damn proud of yourself when you do those oil changes on your own car, when you get one!
Good job! That’s a good start. You gotta learn to fix your own cars man, you’ll save thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. Plus you won’t get ripped off.
Whew that’s scary how much damage driving thru water can do to a vehicle’s engine! That was extremely well explained.
Yeah I obviously knew not to drive through deep water but I never knew that that little of water could completely destroy an engine
Back in the late sixties I was working in a shop and a regular customer brought his late model Buick because it had no power and was running bad. We did the normal checks and couldn't find anything really wrong with it. We were an honest shop with a good rep and not known to give up on anything so after spending hours on this thing, I went out on a limb and said it acts like someone stuck a potato up the tailpipe. No potato, so we started it up , put it in the air and checked the exhaust , which looked perfect but was cooler just after the y-pipe. We cut the pipe open and found out it had been double piped at the factory and the inner pipe had collapsed and restricted the exhaust flow. we asked the customer and he said he had run through a giant puddle at the cottage just before the this all happened. The inside pipe was hotter and the sudden cooling caused it to collapse while the outside looked normal. Your story reminded me of this.
That’s insane!!!
“You can’t fix stupid” - Scotty Kilmer
yes you can, permanently, with a well-placed round.
If it's not broken why fix it ?
@@adotintheshark4848 It costs about a buck a round for ,45.

You mis-spelled "Chevrolet"
@@Eiad.Alhamed WTF are talking about? I don't even type Chevrolet? Was that the password to escape the psyc ward? I bet you spelled it right because you got out of there good job. Now I bet you cant sneak back in.
Seems the only thing that escaped here is your sense of humor.
@@Eiad.Alhamed
Well it would have been funnier if you said dealership at the end. How does a chevy equate to an entire junkyard?
@@dethmaul Drive one and you'll find out
The poor Camry was actually driven until the wheels came off. Owner took Scotty too literally.
A camry, especially an older one should last until the wheels fall off, not due to engine or transmission failure. Everything on my 98 is falling apart, but the engine still runs almost like when it was bought brand new by my grandparents.
Amazing how salt kills cars.
You mean they have an oil filter tool other than a screwdriver driven through the filter? Well weeeedawgie
@@SamuelLWayne What do you have against the screwdriver trick? If it's really that tight the tool will destroy the filter anyways or you'll have to use the screwdriver. Your just saving yourself steps.
Since they started putting radios in cars,I do not hear any strange noises.
Radios often mask over rattles and noises.
@@fortitudevalance8424 I think that was the joke
I changed my oil when I'm supposed to. But if my engine is making a noise it's only because my radio is not loud enough.
That's one of the disadvantages of driving my kids around. When I'm by myself, I just crank up the tunes to drown out the dash squeaks. If they're in the back I get yelled out because it's too loud.
You can tell scotty has a great work ethic by how often he uploads videos 🤣 some other channels take weeks to pump out single videos with way less info in them
If you are the person that does little maintenance on your car, the most important thing you should do is check and change your oil regularly.
Yep, a car with a well-built engine will last forever, but only if basic maintenaince is performed. Engine oil is the most important fluid in the car. It amazes me that some neglect changing oil. My 98 Camry has 273,000 miles, still starts and runs strongly because I keep clean oil in the engine. Everything else is falling apart on her, lol, but has only requred minimal basic care to keep her running strong.
@@bigl5343 same here I got a 2003 Toyota Camry with 215k miles and I do oil changes every 3,000 miles. And when something breaks I try to replace it as quickly as possible. Even doing this for 7 years and have had little problem with her.
Years ago I had two friends who thought it was the Oil Company trying to get you to buy more by telling you it needs to be changed. "!! It isn't squeaking yet !!" "It still works" (he thought if it was bad the engine would squeak like creaking door hinge)
@@castlewhore2007 Yup, every 3,000 miles. My whole family's religion. We run Toyotas, Hondas, Jettas, up to 600,000 miles .Keep all fluids immaculate.

Wasn't aware of these types of intakes before...darn good thing to know.
I had an AWD Dodge Durango that sucked water up that was barely up to the lug nuts. The intake was over the fan, a wave in the water hit the fan and it propellered the water right into the engine. Goodbye engine.😣
Honestly feels like a stupid design, I live in Sweden and it regularly snows here, I could just imagine how easily you could get water into the engine, good thing Volvo puts the air intake away from the road

Scotty water is not compresubul. No matter how much pressure you put on it. You are one of the guys in America that makes this country great thank you for all the help you gave me and the world 🙂
Technical no, water can be compressed. You can compress almost anything. But it takes a insane amount of force to do so. So it's referred to as being uncompressable.
That really made a difference in the way it sounds! Yes oil is the blood of the motor and the most important thing!
It’s crazy how fast Scotty can drive back to Texas

Great advice Mr Scotty
30 some years ago, I popped out a ball joint going over RR tracks. 20 some years ago, I broke my half shaft trying to get my car unstuck from snow. Rear axle mounts rusted on my old Pont 6000. I've driven a few cars until the wheels feel off.
My Jetta. I've got the new steering rack, tho. Still in the trunk.
Everytime we get heavy rain that causes flooding, the local news always says "Turn around, don't drown". You can tell how deep the flooded water is, so why risk it? Some people are stupid thinking they can drive through the water as they think it doesn't look to deep.
Totally good car destroyed..
How much water are we talking about? Regular puddles in the rain or unusually huge ones? I have an RSX so it’s pretty low to the ground.

My dad taught me to change my oil and oil filter every 2500 to 3000 miles and that was back in the seventies.
Still changing the oil and filter in my car between 3000 & 4000 miles because of synthetic oil.
My current car is a Toyota Camry XLE.
I drive about 7000 miles per year so that averages out to about twice per year.
I'm not a believer in 5000 to 7500-mile oil changes and never was.
And I've never had engine problems.
Cheap insurance!
I am always impressed with good mechanics! It's a true skill/art!
My 2010 corolla has that rattle at start, its very common in this era toyota. But its every single time and its intense. It has done it since about 160k. Doesn’t effect the car. Recently it started doing it at low RPMs too. It can start at a random age, usually starts to happen quicker if you dont change oil frequently. But my corolla now has 210k miles, rattles at every start but starts everytime
Had same issue with my girlfriend 2012 Accord 2.4. I changed the VTC solenoid and still had the noise so it ended being the VTC actuator. It stops holding oil pressure in the actuator so it makes that rattle on cold starts at 84000 miles. Previous owner changed the oil at 10 to 12 thousand miles probably why it failed. 1100 dollars for part and labor at Honda dealer. They say it does not cause any problems but I seen where if the timing chain gets stretched it could break. i rather be safe than sorry runs like a top now.
Scotty does it again with a very informative car video. You only get better with age my friend. 👏👏👏👏
I had a similar problem with my F150 2010 truck. There was a gap in the front drivers side wheel well. Every time I ran through a puddle I would spray water directly into the intake side of the air filter. I taped the interior of the air filter housing with 3 inch wide home window tape and had no further problems for 11 years.
Good afternoon from Toronto, Scotty!

“Put the cap back on.”
JiffyLube has left the chat…
I once was a passenger in an old 80's Ford Ranger that caught fire going down the road. Oil had just been changed, cap was forgotten. Used dirt and our shirts to put it out. All that needed replacing was the plug wires.

Good thing you put the lug cap back on. Would have looked terrible without it.
One of the best tips I ever heard: most jugs - like the oil jug in the first tip - are meant to be poured with the spout on the high side. You can get the spout closer and it glugs less.
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy approved ! that was good info Scotty

I also learned my lesson taking my 2.7l Sebring (yeah, I know) yo quick change places. They use smaller filters to save money, that get clogged quickly, and within 500 miles, there's already too little pressure to keep the tensioner and lifters tight

"Things to never do to your car" Let a shop or dealer change your oil. They will always over tighten or drain plug to the point of stripping the threads and you will destroy it trying to get it off. Same goes for the oil filter. If you want it done right then do it yourself.
Had this happened to a Lexus. Dealer tightened the oil filter housing so much I ended up cracking it trying to get it off.
So what if you're an older female and can't get under your car, do you tell a mechanic beforehand, hey don't tighten it too tight?
First time I ever changed my own oil the filter was on so tight I had to hammer a screwdriver through it to get it to turn enough for me to remove it. From then on I only truly trust myself to work on my car
@@MV-zt6gb i was a mechanic for years, just kindly mention it to them. Maybe say something like "another shop stripped it once" or something along those lines. for whatever reason a lot of mechanics are grumpy and take offence when someone tells them how to do their job.
Last time I was this early: Chrysler made reliable cars.
They’ve never made reliable cars.
@@patdaveoneil they did on certain years
@@patdaveoneil I have to say, the first generation dodge Durango’s with the 5.9 L V8 engine are pretty dependable vehicles. All you have to do is take care of those engines and they can go 300,000 miles. I regularly see Durango’s with those engines that have gone over 300,000 miles. I’m not saying they built as good or better than a Toyota but I am saying they can make some reliable cars. They haven’t made good vehicles that were in the last 10 years.
