This is literally one of the best shot movies in cinema history.
i have never seen so much tomahawk launch in a scene before and visually visible in flight, its so majestic
2:49 *menacingly turns towards the target*
I love how Rooster say talk to me dad (as a call back to how Maverick say talk to me Goose) but Maverick is also the one to response, showing he step up to that postion when Goose died.
I couldn't help but think "ahh the missile age, what a terrifying piece of technology."
Rare occurrence when part 2 is better than the original
That sound in 1:18 was just epic.
That target code: 1688 ( 4:17 ) is actually the standard (or so I am told)
Best movie ever made
This movie was entertaining and fun. Stop over-analizing. Punching holes in something fun and cool doesn't make you look smart or cool. Its just a movie. It isnt real.
yea but why didnt they bomb the sams like they did with the runway
@Jayzz232 ummm because then they wouldn't have to dodge them and that would lessen the cool factor
@@Jayzz232because those SAM's might intercept those tomahawks and ultimately reveal their plan to destroy the target
@@marklawrenceranollo5677 yea but shoot enough and they cant all cant be taken down
@@Jayzz232 in warfare there's little to no perfect success so those sams might survive and retaliate thus revealing their surprise attack
love this scene.
They needed to shoot the runway for plot and leave the SAMs so Tom cruise could give us action sequences. The Tomahawks and SAMs were briefed on the script, so the SAMs didn't attack the Tomahawks, and vice versa.
Thats not how SAMS work bud
@@beanholes you don’t actually mean to say….?
I took one sam site at the entrance of the valley and this entire mission (with f-18s) would have been nullified!
If you hit the first SAM site the enemy fighters would have been alerted much more quickly and they're already operating on a timeframe to the second. It's not a great explanation but the film does give one.
Hit the SAMs same time as the airfield@@sadas3190
People are so shit to overanalyse the plot if you are such good fighter pilots why aren’t you in the Air Force?💀
It’s a damn movie it’s GOING to be unrealistic that’s why we have people called “actors” and a story called “script”.
People aren't criticising the script because they think they're good pilots. They're criticising the script because it's 2-dimensional and has some plot holes.
It's a fun movie with high production values and pushes the right emotional buttons. People are free to criticise what they want.
@barryschwarz
And most of those "holes" could be filled by 5 seconds of thinking.
My favorite is the "why didn't they use those rather inaccurate tomahawks to destroy those sam sites its not as if they needed an entire salvo to destroy 2 runways larger than those sam sites... oh wait
That territory looks like the caucasian mountains
I'm excited today is the day.
2:00
You can abort Tomahawks mid flight or even have them fly on standby for awhile so the "no turning back now" is....nah lol
I think he’s referring to the enemy detecting their presence and moving to engage
@@TheConflictLibrary I think its because they were committed to the mission once they fired those missiles as @samuelgray7122 said that those can fly on standby for a while I don't think you can also recover them so Once we fire those ''We are committed boys, no Turning back, let's use them as best as we could''
I think he’s referring to the mission meaning it’s go time
@ripmax333 yea the military has never wasted munitions before 😆
@@ryans413 then just say that! Lol to suggest there's no turning back now when you literally could is silly
Those SAM did not engage the Tomahawk? 😅
Never made sense why they did no blow up the same sites around the exit side. Cool you put pot holes in the air strip. You new the mission why not have a volley fire on the air strip or bombing run high altitude? Surely this could have had tad more support fire.
The point of the mission is that a bunker buster is needed to destroy the intended target underground. Destroying the air strip prevents enemy planes from getting in the air to come back after the attacking wing. For the Tomahawk missiles to accurately target the SAM sites, they would have to fly high enough to be targeted by those very same SAMs. Volley firing on the air strip would be literally pointless, and the whole point of flying the mission is that a high altitude bombing run was already off the table for whatever reasons. It's almost like you haven't even actually watched the movie.
lol they managed to shoot the airport but they can't shoot the missiles on top of the mountain .funny
To be fair, the airport is a much bigger target. But yeah, a lot of the tension of this scene would be lost if they just sent in the F-35s to stomp on the SAM sites.
Can't bomb a target if they know you are coming.
Airports(runways) are a bit bigger
I was wondering what dumbass failed to put AAA in the valley…
@@Jetblast02 good point
Some tomahawks should have targeted the SAMS and some simply flown over them simultaneous with the attack on the airfield.
It will alert the enemy more sooner then the bandit will defend the target and they're in 5th gen fighter
The tomahawks targeting the SAMs would arrive simultaneously with the airfield atttack@@blueastral6326
2:01 The Daggers in there minds: *"Houston, we have a problem"*
Cobra maneuver is highly illegal
Cool. Who made that law?
Great
IT IS a movie
Why don't they just put the tomahawks on the site, they knew precisely were it is
They need to hit a vent to get a bomb inside, which according to a diagram in one scene is pretty damn deep. Tomahawks are not *that* accurate and *that* good at bunker busting.
GPS jamming and the tomahawk has an inaccuracy of 5 ft
You need a direct missile strike no guidance that can be jammed
Fave scene
I doubt an hawkeye could detect su57, they're supposed to be stealth fighters.
Russia couldn't afford the good paint, so, reduced visibility not stealth.
@@that_flight_guyThere is no 100% stealth plane, even an F-22 can be detected with specific frequencies.
The US's beloved F-117 was once shut down over Yugoslavia.
Also, grow up.
They are stealth fighters when using Russian radar any good Rader can see them but they are going to be a bit smaller than what it actually is also the radar on a Hawkeye is very powerful
@@Sam-mv3ifalso triangulation via radar as well. That empty coverage moving is stealth. Example how we learned this. AT&T or Verizon, forget who. Mid states had customers reporting connection loss of various types. Analyses saw an anomaly where receivers had moving blob in a straight line. They learned it was Air force B2 doing flight runs at set schedule. So naturally if something is designed to not report signature. You have data transmitter/receiver arrays in a triangle or better. Signal sinks can be spotted if each tower sends data to each other. To which losses will register. Lay out loss of data in a map and boom. Stealth is defeated, down side to work you need an initial array to start the signal mesh network the plane flies over.
Former Hawkeye NFO, here. All I can say over the open intwerwebz is that you're wrong.
Raf and u.s air force flew this route after the movie they said there was a reason it was used in the movie it's no coincidence
Not a single soldier on the ground to be a lookout????
2:05: Think Maverick can handle flying a Felon?
There's nothing complicated there
🤙 Maverick
Love the movie but I’m thinking rooster woulda never made it to Top Gun in the first place.
There is candian activity here hidden in the mountains canadian bases
why didn't they take SAM sites out with tomahawk ?
Considering the amount of SAMs, it's likely the SAMs themselves can detect and shoot down most of the Tomahawks (there were only 20 missiles in the strike, and there are at least a dozen S-75 launchers, 4 missiles each...but there should be many more, and even though S-75s are old launchers, the missiles weren't supported by jamming or SEAD, so likely that many S-75s can probably defend against 20 missiles),
it is ofc possible to just launch more missiles ofc to overwhelm the defenses.
Realistically the strike group would consist of something like 2 full squadrons of F-35s doing SEAD and at least double if not triple the amount of missiles.
Got a better question for you: Why didn't the SAM sites take out the Tomahawks? They were flying higher than the Hornets which had to fly through the canyon to avoid the missiles.
@@Raguleader probably not enough range, or Radar jamming, or both.
@@Raguleaderbecause it wasn’t in the script and it would of made for a crap scene
if you look, the airbase and the target are not in the same place. The SAMs doesn’t have enough range to engage the tomahawks, and the Tomahawks aren’t GPS jammed when attacking the airbase. This is why
Daveed Paul's slow down your gonna make a hole in the wall
I always wonder does the Air Force or navy hell any us military do shit like this I mean the entire world would know
And they store weaponry here
Couldn't they maybe just wipe out the airport then send f35s or v22 Ospreys or both through the canyon or maybe just use drones to hit the target?
or send all the tomahawks on target
It may have been said already , But In reality all this was , Was a Star Wars Death star run .....just sayin
And?
Send Maverick to a country with a yellowblue flag , he will last 30 seconds :p
Ridiculousness.
