I've really been enjoying the hilarity on this channel along with the genuine way that even us DIY'ers have to deal with regarding our own projects. One thing I've learned regarding foundations is to always use a vapor barrier in addition to relief cuts and reinforcement if possible. Love what all of you and construction channels are doing. The "wiching" as we call it here works for any pipe and you can use copper or other metal . An old water department worker showed me the trick, he was one the guys that go mark their utilities after calling 811. I've used it to roughly locate gas, sewer, water and gutters. I've always used a line locator after "witching" the lines and most of the time it was within a feet. No idea why it works but it definitely does something.

The water line to my house goes right under the outside edge of a pier on my front room. But it's sitting on bedrock. The foam would've been a good idea. Make sure to add lateral bracing on the posts both ways or it'll be back on the ground when the wind blows 😬 and while you meant it as a joke, having a friend that will help you dig a 3 ft hole is a blessing beyond compare
