  • Boondocking is when you are camping overnight in your RV but not in an official campground. It could be a Walmart parking lot (when you do that there, it's officially called Wally-Docking), but it could also be at a rest stop or in a National Forest.

Boondocking means no hookups. So make sure your water tank is full and your gray and black water tanks relatively empty. You'll also want enough gas to run your generator all night if you need power for AC, heat, entertainment, or your fridge.
We get into all the do's and don'ts of boondocking, and even mention how to know which Walmarts allow it and which don't.

Parking overnight in a parking lot is NOT Boondocking! It’s not Dispersed Camping, it’s even even CAMPING! It’s spending the night in a parking lot sleeping in your car or RV. You have missed the whole point and concept of boondocking and the absolute natural connection with the land and forest that comes with it. Please, I beg you, if your going to post informative type videos, know your subject matter first.

Thanks for clarifying, Chris. We are just starting out on this journey, and our channel is for those also starting out. Sounds like you're pretty experienced, so I appreciate the insight. I will say, there do seem to be a lot of opinions out there in the RV world, and some seem to side with your view and some with ours. But I do sort of think it's a minor distinction as we're still talking about parking somewhere without hookups and not in a designated campsite.
      But thanks for chiming in!
