I bought mine new in July 2021 on the promise of great resell value and excellent workmanship. Neither is true, not even close. I sold mine in July 2023 at a little over half of the purchase price and that is with I several upgrades,230ah lithium battery, 2009w inverter, monitor for remote work, huge rise faucet and weboost. During the 2 years, floor has to be replaced due to faulty glue. Shower pan leaks has to be fixed. Bathroom wall start to separate from the body. We didn't used it as much as we would liked. Totally not worth it.
Thank you for the warning!
What did you pay for yours ?
Search shows a new 2024 MSRP at $65,000 (before upgrades/options) 😮
Wow! Can any RV company be trusted these days? Airstream is supposed to be top of the line.
Thanks for your honesty! 😮🫥
I just looked this thing up. "STARTING AT $60K". RV camping is truly a rich person's activity!
That is insane. That's 5 full years of my house mortgage!!!! No thanks.
I bought a ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL 2013 Rockwood Roo 23ss travel trailer with huge slide out loaded with everything and only used by previous owner 5 times in excellent condition for $15.000.00 !!! Look up my camper! Never buy anything New!! Also I bought a 2002 Red Corvette with 18k original miles Mint!!! $20k !!! God bless...
I bought a 30 ft motorhome only 6 years old at under 15000 miles cheaper than this!
Yup, it’s 60k because there are plenty of people who will pay that much.
One thing I think would be helpful for a wet bath is to have a teak wood foot insert that could be taken out when you shower so that when the shower is done, you don't need to dry it all out in order to use the restroom without getting your feet wet. Just put the insert back into the floor and you have a dry place to put your feet when using the toilet.
Nice little trailer.
I do have one concern with roll-up cabinet doors. The backs are open, so if stuff shifts, it could keep the doors from opening.
A better design is to have a half wall in the back that the doors go behind.
Not only that, they didn't seem to slide open & close very smoothly. Looked he was struggling a bit.
@@bonniepwtf Yes, each one seemed rough to open and looked kind of cheap when seen inside the space.
That would be a pretty cool little trailer for a single person to roam around the country in.
Or live in if they want a minimal lifestyle without the cost of a home.
@@russellh8702 Not at $60,000 + the $20,000+ vehicle you'd need to tow it! Better off buying even an inexpensive house.
@@Melody-pv4sg, any pics or videos you could post?
Bambi would make a nice guest room
That's about all, but if price is right, maybe so.
I think it’s cute, that said it’s way overpriced for what you’re getting camping wise!
I think that another of the outstanding things about the Bambi is the astonishing price----$$$$$$$ ! ! !
Starting at 60K ...no thanks I checked the price on airstream website
My God tat is a lot.
your paying for the brand lol thats really it
Absolutely ridiculous!
I agree about the toilet and ac. I also think they should of used regular door cabinets for storage.
Agree, or sliding cabinet doors.
Airstreams look great! Just remember they have only made a few changes in decades, and they use the cheapest parts, meaning refrigerators, wench, etc. Those trailer wheels have to be repacked every 3000 miles. NOT greased like truck trailing wheels where you regularly need to hook up a grease gun to each wheels zerks. You have to remove the wheel, disassemble and grease the bearings, and remount them.
well that would be inconvenient.
@@tedfisk1211 - Nah, it only takes about 20 minutes per wheel once you know what to do.
The more I've researched trailers the more I dislike Airstream. Not just their cost cutting measures but worse, their anticompetitive practices like buying Nest and then killing it after so short a time, clearly just to get rid of the competition.
I would want a sink in the wash room for sure, and cabinet space. I prefer hinged doors to slide doors. I like the kitchen and table area design. The max cargo capacity limits its use to camping areas with water hook ups and dump sites.
I'm still just here to hear this dude say nice as many times as possible in his videos
The tambor doors on overhead cabinets will be a problem. The more common hinged Airstream cabinet doors are more reliable.
They are, but this redesign where they roll straight back in grooves may be the fix. We have the 2019 and our doors roll-up inside. One door in particular (front right) has warped some and is difficult to slide up and down now. I would prefer this new design. Much smoother opening & closing. ☹️
Those slide cabinets would be a struggle to get into when your kitchen items shift in tow.
Airstream trailers are expensive, but apparantly the inside will fall apart long before the outside even BEGINS to deteriorate. I might get one at some point to use as my home on wheels, but there's no way of knowing what the future will hold.
For 1 person and maybe a small dog, its great. Only downside is single axle wanderer while towing. Family? No. Upgrade to at least a 20'.
Wow, that is beautiful. I could use that on my Montana trip to see my daughter and my grandchildren. Wow.❤
A large family 297lbs? This man not all there. This is the epitome of selling out.
That's not the weight of the family included, they would be in the tow vehicle. Still not a lot of extra capacity for gear, though...
He’s an advertiser, a salesman. Nothing wrong with that just understanding what is going on
The only thing Big about the Bambi is the price!!!
I always did love the look of airstream travel trailers!
What I like about these is that they have the same stuff as a huge RV without all of the wasted space. Recently looked at a 45ft RV and it was big and empty with wasted space everywhere. If you want to run back and fourth then go outside.
wonderfully built and wonderfully expensive
Price is $60,000 - double that after you go in to have your heart checked out.
Really nice unit. That floor plan is really great for that size. Can't believe that all fits
It may fit if your BMI is low! :-) And you're not tall.
If I find one to restore,I'd jump on it,but hold onto your hat for the price of this little thing!🤣😅
It has many positives for a compact trailer! Cheers!
I do not like the slidey storage cupboards. But it is cute!
I do love the Airstreams! This is super cute! My grandparents had a big one circa 1960. They had it until they passed in 2000. Sure wish I'd been able to buy it from them!
i am surprised that they didn't give it to you...pete.
@@peterwhite1957 would have been nice, but such is life 😉
Nice tiny trailer and I bet many people will be happy to go for it.
But imho these overhead compartment doors call for good problem solving capabilities as things will surely fly around and block them. This might not be only the case during traveling but even when the trailer is parked - I guess everybody with a tiny cabinet or even a simple bread box with this or similar type of opening mechanism can sing an opera about such issues ...
I think it would be ideal for of off road camping if it was higher off the ground, stronger axle and springs with bigger tires to pull behind a 4x4.
The Bambi is the base model now, they make a 16 caravelle which has the ducted AC and other fancier upgrades. It’s a little confusing as just a few years ago Bambi referred to any single axle AS then there were different trim levels in each size Bambi.
2022 RPod 153. $20000 new out the door in 2023. Tiny, but far more useful, full bath. I don’t like the bed at my age, but I still sleep better camping than I do at home. Very workable for me, my wife and our energetic Aussie. Airstreams are obviously nice, but heavy, overpriced-for my budget, and limited exterior space for what is usually a lot of stuff.
So this is why Nicks Airstream on Grimm looked so big inside!
Have an Airstream and love it. Tows like a dream and the design is great. Although mine is significantly bigger than this one.
Finally, something a 4runner could tow (only if properly equipped of course) 😜😇😎. That cargo weight is a tough sell…….
I’ve seen several 4Runners towing the Airstream Basecamp with no issues. I think the basecamp feels roomier but it doesn’t have a dedicated bed.
Youre right, the Basecamp 16 doesn't have a dedicated bed, Basecamp 20 does though
Personally, I don't see a "family" camping in this. Not saying it isn't doable, but getting stuck in there on a rainy day may be a challenge. However, it looks like it would be an awesome camper for a single person, two people at the most. As far as the plastic toilet goes, if my butt doesn't care, I don't either.😁
Nightmare.
they should call it the TARDIS!
I would be totally claustrophobic in that. Wow no way.
That's the first thing I thought, Zero chance this thing is comfortable for the average sized adult. If your family are all short, very light weight, and don't mind being completely crammed into a space this is your huckleberry. Cheers
1 of my favorite small campers .
I would be all over this if it were 1/3 the price. $63k MSRP is way too steep.
I think that holds true with anything high-end inexpensive.
Very cool!
297 lbs max cargo capacity. Are you kidding me? And then he says you could put a large family in there. Really?
Supersized Barbie family.
Sleeping only, traveling in the vehicle. 😊
Just make sure most of your luggage & other stuff is in your tow vehicle 😂
297? Well, my wife could bring her stuff anyway.
And don’t even think about traveling with fresh water😳
Amazing.
Perfect and God rolls in style
excellent
Every small trailer remains “HUGE INSIDE”
small trailer, " HUGE PRICE "
@@laurencek.1580yuuuuuge
For the price these sell at when opening the overhead bins the motion should be smoother and more fluid. Seemed stiff and not refined
I love these little tiny trailers when I was a kid we used to have a Bambi. I think that’s what we called it. I don’t know if that was the name but little single axle had bunkbeds in it in the back.
❤it!
Very nice!
Love this one ❤
Very nice
What a cutie.
Cute! 👍🤘😝
Cool
Oliver kills this thing. I use to love Airstream, but it will fall apart on you from day one. It will rattle in no time, no lithium, loud AR, no composting toilet. Airstream has a huge issue with the body separating from the frame and will dent with ease. Low to the ground compared to Oliver as well so no real boondock camping.
For 1-2 persons would sacrifice the bed for more bath space and just a bit more space in general. I would love to find an old Airstream to restore.
Airstream's 19 ft + trailers have separate toilet, sink, shower areas.
That’s a lot of features for such a small camper.
I love these but in the Carvel (sp?) Edition better. Really great little campers!
Charmaine 💜
Beautiful trailers we saw at an RV show last year.
The prices though are insanely expensive.
Talked to friends that want to buy one but can’t afford one. Everything today is more expensive. It’s crazy. Especially living in California.
Literally every RV has cabinetry with doors
Ya real pioneers, I'm sure their going to Mars next
Mobile hunting cabin. Perfect.
At 65k it's a bit too pricey .
I don't know, JD. For the money, I think you can get a lot more from many other brands. Airstream has a big following, and that's cool, just not for me. I was waiting for you to pull that handle at the front of the kitchen sink, the only sink in this rig. Spices or sponge storage?
Cool design I wish it was a foot or two longer just to have a bit more room in the wet bath
They make 19-, 20-, and 22-foot Bambi models, too.
@@colormedubious4747 very cool thank you
It is nice that is small size has a separate booth and bed.
Hey JD! I think it would be awesome to do a collab with my dad, Vinnie’s Northbay airstream. He just did a video with keep your daydream and I think you two could do a deep dive on the engineering and pros and cons of a AS.
This one I like. Bigger wetbath I think I can use without having to turn sideways in. A dinette and a permanent bed. I travel alone so not having to breakdown and make up a bed every day is great. Only problem is it is at the max rating of my van. So if I have my scooter in my van I might not be able to tow this as well.
The thing that jumps out at me right away is why in such a small compact RV would you build a dining room for 4?
I believe the dining area converts to a bed. Technically, the Bambi sleeps four.
This would be nice to rent out in the backyard...
why?...you can get a coleman for around $16k if you are just going to rest out or for family etc
Surprised that the cargo weight is so low.
Watch the links how that’s true masterpiece and price is about same
Those sliding cabinet doors look kind of cheap, I noticed they are sticking when you open/close them.
$48,900 base price if you needed to know
Cue up the Pat Metheny circa 1979.😊
Expensive
Cool but wouldnt that metal make it hotter?
in my opinion, airstream is the best rig out there...but a new Airstream Bambi which ranges in length from 16 to 22 feet, will cost between $55,000 and $70,000 depending on the size you choose....not really worth it and out of range for many people...say you take the $50,000 and invest somewhere and use $5 for hotels etc., you will be far ahead in your budget control...but heck trailering is so much fun for family...
Hey JD,I hope you're having a great day! I like the Airstream travel trailers. They have one out I think its a classic but I'm not sure that has massive space and storage in it. The Bambi is a.nice small trailer that would be good for a couple or a family with a child. The Airstream will last for years I hope because they are made out of steel or aluminum? I like this setup because being a single person that's all I would need. Thank you JD for showing us this unit. Your number one fan an friend Leonard from North Carolina.
How hot to the sides and ceiling get in the summer? I feel the like the a/c has to work overtime
Form over function? Looks cool, but fridge and micro below waist level? Those over head cabinet sliding doors look cool but suspect will be a pain in the neck. Nice wrap around window looking at…. The back of your tow vehicle.
The aluminum exterior is nice. But the underside and frame is just regular sheetmetal and it rusts out real bad.
And there’s regular plywood on top as your deck and that rots out bad too.
How do I know? Well I have an Airstream. Because of all the rotted out decking it’s impossible to keep mice and critters out.
After many attempts to correct these serious shortcomings (and I restore run down old houses professionally) I’ve given up on it and parked it. It’s just way more work and will cost more than it is worth.
Not bad for $70,000 😅
Google found a dealer with one for just under $65K, but still... neat RV ... but wow...
lol too much for me
Airstream:: they’re heavy and expensive. They have no slides. They have limited storage because of their shape. They dent very easily especially from hail. You can buy a regular travel trailer with much more space and amenities for half the price and much less weight.
Slides have revolutionized RVs, and yet airstream don’t make them . The normal shape of the airstream makes that a tough fix
I love seeing rv's that are bigger on the inside than on the outside.
Got it. However, had one and over time it leaked. I paid a lot and sold it for only slightly less than I paid for it so it retained value but their are better campers for a lot less today. I prefer clam shell two piece campers now
That would be perfect for my cherokee SPORT which would be my tiny house
I love the compact campers. We went with a twin bed config Casita.
Great idea!
So..... Looking at the cabinets, the door design is a flaw. When sh!t slides around (as it absolutely will) and gets shoved to the back wall, the door will be stopped by anything tall that got shoved or thrown to the back of the cabinet because the door slides back and down as it opens.
Great advert.
Oh yeah I i love to sit on the floor while I look for something in the fridge, or check on a item in the microwave. What where they thinking?
Especially for us older folks - for whom bending over is literally a pain!
Try Arctic Fox by Northwood Manufacturing in LaGrande, OR.
I’ll take a Tab 400 !
Indeed, it’s way cheaper, more ergonomic and better quality. In fact, I rather take a Knaus, Adria, LMC, Kip, Hobby, Fendt, Eriba and so on than this one.
The only problem with airstream was they were always so big I would be interested in a small one
Thx for the video 📹
Airstream also offers less wind resistance saving gas.
I'm about to remodel my 30ft camper trailer bathroom. I'm getting rid of the sink. Doesn't make sense to have two sinks within six feet of each other. I can really use the extra space in my bathroom.
Airstreams are the definitely the coolest looking trailers on the market. They really lack storage space. However that trailer has okay storage for its size. What will that aluminum skin look like if you get caught in a Texas hail storm?
A golf ball
And other aluminum trailers will look the same
😮
If could afford definitely they are very nice does the bigger one's offer washer and dryer y hasnt anyone added a deep freezer you right tho they are built to last whats the under belly like rvs away end up with mice in them my last class a had the little suckers behind the wall
