- Full grain leather cross-body purse found on Poshmark. Stank to high heaven. Must’ve been in the bottom of a smoker’s closet for years. It went from living a sad life to its best live with a little TLC and some elbow grease. 💪👜
I have never seen anyone completely submerge leather in water nor use dish soap to clean it before. I know *a lot* of guys who would be yelling at the top of their lungs over your method but it obviously works.
Outstanding. 👏👏👏
I mean, leather is just skin. If our skin can handle it, then so can leather
I bought a filthy yellow canvas/ leather bag for 4.99 at a thrift store. Ms Shopsalot mentioned she threw hers in the washer! I figured I had nothing to lose so I put the settings at warm, threw in some Awsome and Tide and let her go! It was a miracle! I stuffed it with towels, leather treated the leather parts and Scotch Guarded the dickens out of it. It was pristine!
I just had two leather coach purses restored and they charged me $50 a purse! I’m glad I watched this video because I’m going to start and do it my self👍
Thoughtful and loving work, your bag looks new (and I’m sure smelled so much nicer). I bought a couple of Coach bags at a yard sale, they looked like they had been to hell and back but showed promise as the leather wasn’t too bad off. All I have left to say is that these old Coach bags are made so well, they pretty much just bounce back when they’re cared for like this, as seen in the video. One moment of kindness and they are beautiful again!!! Well done 👍
I have exactly the same purse. It's a beauty. Nothing like old Coach leather. New stuff is trash.
Right! There is no cardboard in the old bags, just leather..fine leather
Just purchased a vintage coach purse for $4.99 at goodwill. Can not wait to have it restored.
😳
Your videos make me believe I too can acquire this skill if I practice enough. Great work yet again
I had enough Coach bags to open my own vintage store. I let several of them go to a friend’s wife for $20 each. Yes, I am really stupid.
I loveeee watching this restoration process!
instaBlaster...
I use saphir on all my leather products, they are the best. For people who want to know. Saphir renovator is the conditioner. Watch out on light browns in will darken due to it conditioning so well. And the black cream is saphir saphir pommadier cream polish. The cream has some very light waxes and you need to buff them out with a horse hair brush. It will leave a small shine, but also help seal the bag or shoes, or whatever you use it on for a small amount of protection.
Can waxes be put on the analine leather like this? I was told that putting wax on porous leather like coach leathers would encourage dry rot, and cause the leather to become brittle and disintegrate over time.
Why does she always use Saphir Cordovan on the black Coach bags but 1925 on the other colors?
Saphir cream polishes have less wax than standard shoe polish, but it still contains, according to their own literature, 7 different kinds of waxes. You are putting wax on the bag's chrome tanned leather, reducing it ability to breathe and absorb conditioners. Personally, I would not do this or want it on my bags.
@@Jandrix_bb You are correct. You should never put a wax product on a Coach vintage bag. Once painted on, it is extremely difficult to remove. And god knows there are few enough of these fine old bags left in unmolested (and unwaxed!) condition.
@@davidmiller3128 THANK YOU! That's what I thought this is not a good restoration that keeps the longevity of the bag in mind. When taken care of these leather bags are heirloom quality and can last generations!
Yes the color of the D U P B A G Y is beautiful and it is a great decision, maybe one day they will add feet and straps. It would be nice to have a bigger bag during the colder months when we have to store gloves, beanies, scarves, etc…
Thank you. So I’m not the only one who washes and dye their coaches, due to the smell and fading of the edges. Thank you.
Just subscribed! I’m seriously enjoying watching your process of restoring these back to life!
Am I only the only nitwit that thought you had put the bag in the microwave for 20 mins? 😬 Would love some commentary and info re hardware cleaning.
Hahaha worry not, you are not alone!
I thought the same, so I guess I’m a nitwit as well, lol 😂
If your hardware has tarnished you can use Brasso cleaner
Totally agree, some explanations and descriptions would have been most helpful.
I wish these videos exist 5 years ago. I threw 2 of my Coach leather handbags bcoz of mould smell, they were in much much better condition than those shown in this channel. 😓
Hajaja noo...yo también pensé eso😅
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed your video!!! It was very informative and I will use your techniques in the future. And YES, I DID think you had put the bag in the microwave!! I was shocked and thought I'd NEVER do that...but alas, the bag was saved. Thank you
I thought she used the microwave to show use the time involved. I do not think she put the bag in the microwave. 🌸
I agree with Catherine. It took me a minute, but finally realized the purse couldn't have been in the microwave. It has metal parts.
Beautiful! It just shows what a bit of TLC can do 😍
Cedar was a great addition love the methodical process ❤️
Love your process. Again, quality will out. Structural issues seem to be a moot point when initial construction is of such a level. Beautiful bag. Enjoy!
You did a beautiful job. Best I have seen on UA-cam
I have a coach, pink pleated wallet that I used to death, these videos show me I can clean it up and all isn’t lost after all, since it was $250 new!
You do a great job! I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
Looks great after the rehab :)
Great rehab on a vintage Coach!
I love your videos❤️
Incredible! so cool
I’m hooked ❤
Looks fantastic!!! I’ve restored several vintage Coach bags too and love them💖
Do you have a channel? How about doing a video to share how you did it with commentary and explanation.
Do you wash them too?
Wow! Great job! I have two vintage coach bags. I never use them any more but can't bear to part with them.
Great job!!!
Good leather
Therapeutic video- well done.
Hi Lyssa, Hope you are doing great! I have a Vintage Coach Dinky that was my Grandmothers and I want to restore it. Any recommendations?
Beautiful restoration job, well worth the effort!👏🏻👏🏻
How much did you pay for the bag? We’re you able to remove the smell? Did you sell the bag, if yes, May I ask for how much?
Will the black restoration dye rub off on your clothes?
Great job!
New subscriber! Excellent job again! 😳 How much did you get it for? Please keep posting videos 💕
Love your work, giving a vintage coach some TLC. Thank You for doing your these videos ❤. My question is- Is the coloring you use a polish or a dye? Have you had any color rub off after the bags go back into the world? OMG, that bag is gorgeous! I typed this while you were restoring the bag.
Can you use something like painters tape to protect fabric if you have leather piping of another color? Great job, thank you for taking the time to make these videos
Wow great job!
Is that shoe polish or what? Then leather conditioner?
What a nice job !!!!!! It was in rough shape
Hi - just subscribed. I see beat up but nice purses at my Goodwill $2 store all the time. I currently have two designer wallets (one is Coach/one is D & B) that arrived to me in great condition, but they smell. So this title truly caught my eye. I've stored them for 2 months with dryer sheets and it DID help, but I'm watching for advice here. Thanks!
There's a product called odo ban...Amazon or walmart...wonder if sprayed on towels and stuffed in purse would work
When I sell my purses I want them to have a good home, and be well taken care of. If not I will call the purse police.
🤭🤣😂😅
Thanks 🙏🏻
I also used Saphir in my vintage chanel lambskin 20years bag and 10 years bag try it…
Will this dye transfer?
I never would have thought to soak leather in soapy water. I will definitely try this. But 2 questions: Do you have any instructional videos on restoring/cleaning canvas bags and What was the purpose of the microwave, were you using it as a timer?
Don't soak your leather bags like this!!!! Unless it's only leather and then even it's best to not soak but simple clean with soap and water with brush in circle motions never pushung hard as you can push out the grain..! Anyway often there is backing between the leather to hold the leather in shape and that cardboard will draw in the moisture and lose all its purpose. This was extremely crude way to clean. Watch professional leather bag dyeing instead. This is not how to restore your quality bag for years to come. This was tinted wax and conditioner, it will wear off, it best to clean ,strip with alcohol based , dye in thin layers waiting for each layer to dry, then condition and wax. Please please please don't do this, definitely if you are selling on, as it's just like shoeshining but it will wear off. Those sides needs to be dyed for longlevity
Nice job!
Can you soak vintage bags that have handles?
Satisfaction
Will the purse stay looking like this or will it eventually fade to where you need to restore it again?
I’ve restored several vintage Coach bags like this and they stay the same. I use a little leather conditioner about once a year to treat the leather. That’s it.
It will fade. You're not really adding dye back into the leather, you're "top coating" it with very small amounts that impregnate the top surface. If you were to dye it with leather dye it will last forever. All bags that are in rough condition are because they have not been cleaned and conditioner. If you were to upkeep that, the leather would stay supple. Leather that dries out will lose the dye. Conditioned leather will keep it.
Beautiful rehab! You’ve helped my so much with mine. Curious, why cordovan rather than black polish?
2:26 that’s how I dumped my ex 🤣🤣🤣
Lol!!
What did you spend on each purse? And if you were going to resell it after the restoration, what would you price it at?
What did it smell of?
How much did you pay for it? And did you get smell out? You did a good job!
Beautiful Job but I would like to know where to buy the products you are using. Thank you
AMAZON
Good god I thought you microwaved the purse
Omg I got the same one yesterday at Goodwill for $19 better condition than yours, it just need it like a good conditioning to make shiner, what can I use?
Thank you for your video. I have a question. I don't have access to that brand of products that you are using. Can I use any other regular shoe polish wax? For example, Cherry Blossom? Could they stain my clothes if I put my bag on after rehab? Thank you in advance.
Any ideas to help if the purse smells like cigarette smoke?
Vinegar!!! Wipe interior. Then dry, then baking soda or leave a pouch of charcoal poweder in it :)
@@estadejong9115 , Thanks, I’ll try it!
What kind of leather are aloowed to soak?
What all did you use product wise
Why not get the vacuum out with the crevice cleaner attachment and clean the inside that way, a lint roller is useless and does nothing to remove dirt and other accumulations of "stuff".
Have you gad luck with removing smells,
What is the black product you put on it ?
I have a red leather coach bag, that needs a little cleaning? Any suggestions what to use that is safe?
Whatever you do, don't soak it like this. Just use soap and water and soft circular motions and cleaning up the excess water rimmediatly don't let things pool. If no dye actually missing from the original , a red wax ( leather polish wth conditioning. Will do ) but actually stripping back and dying is amazing result. Always remember less products and more often than just slopping stuff on it. Please don't soak bags in water. It can warp the whole bag!!! Be gentle with the bag as you can damage the entire grain by rubbing it too hard.
@@estadejong9115 I agree! Stop soaking bags in water. I restore bags, and this is a huge no no!!! Cadillac leather cleaner and restorer will clean a bag up beautifully, then use matching dye or leather cream depending on damage, or a bit of leather paint, if needed, then a leather clear coat to bring back sheen, then mink oil or leather wax depending on the bag, metal cream cleaner for hardware, and lastly, buff the whole bag with a micro fibre cloth. Inside can be vacuumed, and cleaned carefully, with a stain remover, and rubbing alcohol for pen marks.
@@estadejong9115 I hear and understand what you are saying but what damage can be done if the bag is all leather? My brother has a business cleaning up basements, attics, garages and frequently comes across vintage Coach, LV, Prada bags that he brings to me to restore. The last Coach looked and smelled like the bag had been under the basement floorboards for years. Great bones and I washed it submerged in a little soap, vinegar n water. I be damned -that bag dried to almost pristine condition. All the mold was gone, scuff marks gone, dirt n grime were gone. It was now flexible n pliable where before it was hard n stiff. Finished it off with conditioner n wax. I don't treat all bags that way but for this one we had nothing to lose.
@@kindredcreativecorner6927 fair enough but that's not indicated in this video . It's not a to go to method. It's like saying this garment was fine going thru the washing machine but it said handwash.
@@kindredcreativecorner6927 I agree…no harm in submerging under the conditions you have described
I’m here watching these videos looking to see if I’ll ever come across my coach bags that were stolen from me that the thief may have sold.
How will you know it is your bag. Coach made more than one
🤭🤣🤣
Why use the cedar planks after? Moisture? Scent? I have not seen that before.
Cedar is used to get rid of the bad smell
As dark as that water was after the first wash I would have done it one more time. Then rinse in a sink full of cool water.
Thats the leather dye leaching into the water. Doing another wash risks lightening up its color even more.
That was all the dye leaking out, should have never been washed like this. Professionals saddlesoap waskph it as you only want to remove the dirt from the top not soak the leather that it starts leaking the dye. Watch professionals do the repairs like from the actual fashion houses. This might look good now but it's not an investment treatment. You will need to keep colorconditioning it to make it seem it is fully dyed where as in reality it has lost alot
Are the Sapir products better than the Coach products? If so I am going to get them . TY
Yes, by far they are better.
What can be used on hard to zip zippers? Enjoying your videos.
Take wax paper and rub the wax side all along the zipper on both sides. It’ll be smooth as butter 🧈
@@RPBSpeaks ..thank you...I happen to own wax paper...while definitely try that! Thanks
Or rub bar soap across zipper.
You are the first person I've seen washed the leather purse with a dish detergent and soaked it in the water for 20 min... why not just use Saddle soap?... i mean You do still use water but and you'd still have to dry it for 24 - 48 hours but you are not soaking the leather in the water. You wet the brush in water and leather up the soap and clean the purse with it... and wipe away. and use clean water and brush to go back over the purse. Pat dry and fill it with towels and dry for 24 - 48 hours. You are not taking a chance to ruin the leather. I've seen Faux leather washed... i don't believe I've ever seen a real leather washed with dish detergent and soak in the water. Personally, I found that tinted polish doesn't actually cover the worn out areas. I had to purchase a leather dye to actually store those spots. But, if this methods works for you, more power to you. ^_^
You are correct. This is not the way to treat leather . You can just use dishwater soap or Castillo soap with water and exactly what you said lapping it up . A scuffmark might be covered for a while with what's she's using but it's a "cream wax" it covers and doesn't impregnate the leather with dye so it will fade. The correctness if restoring a bag is how you described.
It’s a personal choice….the leather is not harmed and it is deep cleaning when it is submerged. Some people want to get rid of the dirt inside and out….not knowing the previous owners cleaning habits 🤭😃
What is the cream u used?
saphir renovator is the conditioner. Watch out on light browns in will darken due to it conditioning so well. And the black cream is saphir saphir pommadier cream polish.
What all did you ise

You should've used Brasso on the brass before washing it and for a smelly bag use laundry soap instead of dish soap.
Never use shoe polish the oil and wax will ruin the bag.
Also never stuff bag while wet for mildew and molds
There a vintage coach channel and she explains all this
.her bags are beautiful.
Saphir is the best leather products on the planet. It's fine.
@@jlozano2014 I've found Apple Care is the best so far
I'll give the brand you mentioned a try
but as far as leather goes its
Apple Care
for the type of leather coach used.
oh girl, that is not how you do it. Don't use shoe polishes :|
Hey, the eighties called...they want their bags back!
Vintage Coach are extremely desirable collectibles at the moment. They are selling for more $ than some brand new Coach bags.
Maybe for you 😂most people in their 20s (myself included) LOVE vintage Coach.
Putting shoe polish on a bag is not restoration.
That purse is way too small, what could possibly fit in there?
Please people!!! Do not clean restore your precious items like this, follow professional cleaners if the actually brand houses and they will explain why . Never ever soak a leather bag like this.
No thanks. I don't like her throwing the new packages down, I don't like not having explanations, and I think I don't care much for this person's general attitude. Better to pay Coach to do the job.
Amazing love watching the process
I like the fan effect. Its no longer included in the most recent video.
