I only garden on my deck - we just ordered some raised bed planters - they are on legs so are almost the height of a kitchen table - so I can work in the new boxes next year. I grew tomatoes and cucumbers in pots on the deck (can't garden in the ground because of deer herds that come through our yard and I'm 74 and partially disabled from polio as a child) but yet you inspired me to take up gardening again this year and we are so happy with our little vegetable pots. I've always grown flowers - but had given up on vegetables. Next year, again inspired by you, I will have tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, chives and maybe even a few onions in with the flowers in the new planters. Thank you for your videos - your voice and style are so calming and we need that so much these days.

Seeing the peas section of this video brought back some nostalgia of the first pea pod I ever grew, it was back in primary school I sat at the back of the class room on the teachers left hand side beside a window and a sink (exactly what I needed to make the plant grow, that and abit of common sense to keep an eye on it daily. Unlike most of the class 😅) anyways their was that window and the bottom left hand corner and the window everyone else choose on the right hand side, full sun all day. (I’m sure you know were this is going by now lol) anyways we came back from Easter holidays and low and behold everyone but I was shocked that there little faster growing pea shoots had all perished and I came back to a healthy little plant. Was pleased to eat the pea pod when it fully grew 😊 no prize for this little experiment, but the lesson I learnt won’t be forgotten. (Went on to forgetting about gardening till countless years later and took it up as a small time hobby and still love it to this day 😊

Thank you for a fantastic video, a lot of useful information conveyed in a short time. I like that you speak at a normal speed too, as I find some videos on UA-cam have such slow speech, I listen to them speeded up a notch or two! I am new to growing veg and had a successful harvest of several types of veg in my new vegetables planters. I didn't know know quite how many things we can grow during the Autumn and winter! It will really be a nice distraction from the imminent Covid 'downer' in these coming colder months. Apparently, 3 million extra people in the UK have started to garden during the pandemic - it has been such a boost for people!

Dear Liz.I do so enjoy your tutorials and have been so inspired and have learned a lot.I wonder if you are aware that the beautiful green leaves from the radishes can make a lovely nutritious dish.ln a little olive or other oil,fry some chopped or crushed garlic. You can add some spices if you like or not, such as turmeric, chilli and cumminpowder.Add the washed chopped leaves, salt and pepper and cook gently until done. They are delicious and nutritious, but l do appreciate your ducks might not be too keen on depriving them of their tasties!!! Thank you for all your efforts.Wishing you well and kind regards.

I managed to kill off my August-sown seedlings - I moved them from the windowsill to the conservatory to get more light, then we had a hot spell this past week - but I was encouraged by your video to give it one more go before the equinox. Sowed winter lettuce, spinach, chard, various fast-growing brassicas and some Guardsman spring onions (thanks for the tip that they grow faster than WH White Lisbon!) 😃

Could you possibly do a video about how you prepare your garden for next year and how to build up the soil fertility? We've really struggled this year as plants have either failed to germinate or have been generally small and a bit pathetic! I think it's been the growing medium as our potager was just a field before!

Stumbled upon this video. So glad I did. As a novice gardener I've been confused and stuck with ideas on what to grow throughout winter. I use mainly pots and planters for my patio garden and have a deck. This was a really valuable video. Thank you 👍🏼

I grow lots of things in containers as I’m sure my neighbours use pesticides on plants in their garden. I don’t want contamination. You have taught me a lot. Thank you xx

Thank you for your advice. I have some spinach just poking through and my pakchoi has gone nuts. Having to sow in modules as need to clear the weeds after all the rain.
Not grown mustards before so looking forward to those. In fact watching you and Huw has inspired me to try a winter garden for the first time so very exciting. Thank you

Thanks Liz...this is the first year I've started succession planting as the first few years here have been more about conquering territory to establish beds, lol. PS. I'm in central France so we tend to have a bit more of an extended growing season before the first frost...if we get any - last year we had only 3 mornings with a light freeze^^ Actually hoping for a good freeze this year to give everything a good clean!

Just an update on my experimental sowing of 9 sugar snap pea seeds (outside in pots)at the beginning of September.
They are doing really well and have produced a few flowers. I’m hoping for at least a small crop before the cold gets them. (from the South West of England, U.K.)
It’s great to break the rules now and then!

I can't understand why anyone would give you a thumbs down. Crazy people. OMGosh...that was one big head of cabbage. My garden didn't do well this year at all....and I have no one to blame but myself. I neglected it more than took care of it. Hopefully I'll have a few things in for a fall garden. Plan on doing that in the next few days. Thanks for sharing. Take care
