I think the broadcaster who does sculpting on stream was pretty impressive. Her name is...oh, bugger it all, Shannon something. Van Pelt, maybe? I'll have to look it up and come back. (Edit: Yeah, that's her name. Shannon van Pelt) Although that content alone probably wouldn't be persistently engaging for most people, she also games regularly, so you get a good mix of the creative and the gaming content. I know she isn't a huge draw as a streamer, but she stands out to me as someone doing something interesting that goes beyond gaming content. Watching her bring monsters to life out of clay was just kinda fascinating to me. I watched this video and your 50 questions in 10 minutes video and I have to say...it all comes across as a bit daunting. And I know that's not your intent. I fall into that "I just wanna share my gaming journey with people and maybe make some money in the process" kind of success. The premise of being Twitch royalty doesn't really appeal to me. Weirdly, I don't think I've ever even watched any of the truly HUGE steams, because I prefer channels that have high chat interactivity and if you've got THOUSANDS of viewers I feel like that's a hard thing to come by. I think of the broadcasters I watch the most, CohhCarnage is probably the biggest draw who still manages a good bit of chat interaction. While his community is impressively large and engaging, even he doesn't necessarily put himself on the same level as Ninja, who I'd never even heard of until Cohh brought him up at one point during Dropped Frames and who I gather is obscenely popular. My personal Twitch viewing tends to be restricted to a fairly limited range of broadcasters, most of which I think don't on average break more than 1k viewers at any given time, barring special events; I feel like my sweet spot will probably be well below that, maybe in the 300 range. I mean, being realistic, I'm a 44 year old gaming/fantasy/sci-fi/horror geek with virtually no social media footprint - I don't bring a lot to the table that other broadcasters won't be able to do better on a grander scale...but that doesn't mean I'm not going to give it a shot. Mostly, aside from the potential of getting paid for doing something I already enjoy, I really want to stream as a way to find an audience; at heart, I'm a storyteller and in the end all I want to do is share my stories, my journeys in RPGs with viewers who might appreciate that content. That's my version of success, and boy does it really seem like that's a WAY OUT THERE goal right now. But...like you said, I'll start trying things out and see what sticks, discard what doesn't until I get to a level I feel comfortable with. Anyway, sorry for the data dump; I got started and it sort of grew into a stream of consciousness. Thanks for the guidance, mate. For as daunting as it makes broadcasting seem, it is appreciated. Good Journey.

wow. i started out watching some of your tips on running a stream. and then came to this and im blown away. a lot of the time the tips sounded weird, but all of these tips really make sense. I, personally, am not sure if i ever want to use a camera. and yet the rest of these tips will really help even without that. thanks for the video! my excitement for streaming has restored :D
Harris! I started watching your videos a few days ago and I really love what you do. I also started my stream a few days ago. One of your videos already helped me out a lot! I optimized the sound of my stream. No keyboard sounds anymore, awesome voice, really enjoying this progress. That’s what my stream is about, voice lines/voice overs and having a great time playing video games. Thanks for making these videos, pal!
I dig how you used Matt from Trivium as an example. His streams themselves are so basic from an overlay perspective, but his room is set up so it's not cluttered. It's got a lot to look at, at any given time, and all of the stuff fits into the theme of his stream. I mean, he is mainstream frontman for a big time metal band, but his formula can work for even tiny streamers.
I see so many content creators do this, along with leaving messy closets open, and showing piles of laundry, etc. While being a slob doesn't necessarily mean you are undisaplined in other areas of your life; but it does increase the odds, and effects viewer's first impression of the content creator.
Social Media I’m just seeing someone go “Oh a streamer streaming this game that I’m interested in! I better watch it!” *Sees messy room* “Oh gee golly this room is way too messy! He probably lives on the streets or just robbed a house! Better get out of here!” xd
Hey man, I see alot of people talking trash to you (idk why), But I actually found this video extremely helpful!! Thank you man, Now I have a 3 hour brain storming session ahead of me.
cr0way there is no quality in the first place if I don’t have enough money to own any of these things and most of the time you have to pay in order to use phone as webcam
Your content is spectacular! Thank you! Considering getting into streaming and your knowledge has helped me get my head around what it is and isn’t, and how to get into streaming and content creation. Love it!!!! Well done
Great tips Harris, thank you! I wanted to share a tip - as a streamer you should never ask for donations or make up sob stories about your equipment etc. People will donate if they love your content and not just money (use what you currently have and grow). Personally when I hear someone "begging" for money I RUN... FAST :D
the problem is peopel are spoiled now,6 years ago you'd be lucky if someone could add extra features like a webcam.now everyones like where my 1080p with effects and stuff.get a grip
profesional made overlays, emotes, etc are all nonsense. don't believe anyone that says you need those. do you think that people subscribe to Shroud, DrDisrespect, etc cause they have cool emotes, etc? no. they subscribe to Shroud cause he's Shroud. change overlay, etc only if you want it cause you don't like the default ones.
I've been a twitch partner for 7 years almost and it's a very hard platform. I at one point averaged 1k viewers but quit for irl reasons.. got back into it a month ago and been sitting at 4-5 viewers average. It's a tough platform and honestly I'd switch if I wasn't partnered.
I'm 2 months in streaming and I've yet to see advice on how to act when growth shows in the first few months. I get anxiety feeling like I dont kiss enough ass with regulars that come back into my stream. Sometimes I combat their strategy in games or am not the nicest when they push their gameplay or opinion of the game onto you. What do you guys do about that? Cuz I hate to be that streamer with bad vibes!
Chat rules : no backseat gaming Honestly, that's not something you kiss ass about. It's not cool for someone to come in to your space and tell you want to do. My suggestion is troll em. Be funny, brush it off, call them out in a funny way. Keeps it lighthearted but the message is clear. And if you are being harassed by a particular person time them out, if they continue drop that banhammer. If it's a whole group, connect with them, ask them why they think they can run your stream, and if they're so good at whatever why aren't they in their own stream. If they have their own, ask them why they are in yours acting like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
1.- get a camera (use it while stream it) 2.- set up your room (background) 3.- learn OBS (software) 4.- figure out why people are going to watch you (what are you bringing to your viewers?) 5.- how are you reaching new viewers (clips >tweet it> use insta to grow > start youtube channel) 6.- never give up and dont force it (if you fail> make another plan and see what happens) ALEJANDRAK12 TTV :)
ughh...so many videos say to use a camera. like, i really lowkey just dont want to show my face to just people. i only show my face to my close friends. is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to show my face while streaming?

What I do for a living has little/ nothing to do with gaming/streaming/creating video content (although it is something that I want to try)! From watching your content I’ve learnt so much about your world; what should work, what might not work, etc. BUT, I realized that despite our industries not even being in the same building, let alone same level, what you teach here is transferable. Thank you for creating awesome content and sharing your knowledge and experience.

I have trouble making friends and I don't like to take a lot of photos and videos, but some months ago I tried to stream so I used my cellphone as a camera and played fortnite. Now, I have 99 followers, a few people watch me like 3-7 but it's okay. Streaming helps me to deal with my low confidence, sometimes bad thoughts return but playing videogames and making people laugh is cool, I think. Don't worry about numbers. JUST DO IT. Edit: now I have 156 followers and 2 subscribers ( I don't speak English very well, so sorry if I have grammar mistakes and you don't understand me)
Catialx_BOX I can understand you perfectly. I legitimately wouldn't have even known if you didnt say it. for me it more comes from weight, so I dont like the idea of having a face cam. I typically dont have too much of an issue making friends, but idk the idea of having a face cam I guess scares me.
@@BigMan7o0 oh weight, I understand I'm overweight I have 89.7 kilos hahahahha At first you could stream without a camera. Very insightful, thank you very much for posting these vids on streaming! I just started streaming, obviously I'm far from being an affiliate, it's amazing though the way you communicate these tips makes me feel I can do it! And I'm an artist, very different genre.
The one thing that I found was an interesting way to start to bring in new viewers (going off of your #5) was actually stream this old game that I still play called Rumble Fighter. I really enjoy playing the game and there's some times where I am extremely good and other times that I was almost as bad as someone just starting out in the game. There might've been one maybe two people who made videos or streamed Rumble Fighter, but were only on UA-cam and the first day that I decided to stream that game, I think 5 people immediately popped in which made me ecstatic. Sometimes to get a start on bringing in viewers you could try streaming something hardly anybody else streams. You don't have to go on these games that are extremely popular. Now I personally wouldn't suggest on making it the only thing you stream as it's not going to grab other viewers who don't know of that game. Plus when you start getting viewers from other areas asides from just that one small game, you could possibly get more people to check that game out knowing you enjoy playing it and it might be something worth to get into. Also, I want to thank Alpha Gaming because there's been several videos I have seen from you and it has helped me become a better streamer. There's still more that I can learn though as you always keep adapting to new things.

How would you connect your phone to the stream? Cable and software I’m guessing?

Nice keep it up

no one wants to see a messy room with a mattress on the floor :| XQC LUL
I see so many content creators do this, along with leaving messy closets open, and showing piles of laundry, etc. While being a slob doesn't necessarily mean you are undisaplined in other areas of your life; but it does increase the odds, and effects viewer's first impression of the content creator.
Social Media I’m just seeing someone go “Oh a streamer streaming this game that I’m interested in! I better watch it!”

Bro I see you
I'm 2 months in streaming and I've yet to see advice on how to act when growth shows in the first few months.
Chat rules : no backseat gaming
Honestly, that's not something you kiss ass about.

1.- get a camera (use it while stream it)
2.- set up your room (background)
3.- learn OBS (software)
4.- figure out why people are going to watch you (what are you bringing to your viewers?)
5.- how are you reaching new viewers (clips >tweet it> use insta to grow > start youtube channel)
6.- never give up and dont force it (if you fail> make another plan and see what happens)
