Enjoyed how this video captured the magic of bringing an old cabin back to life. The transformation was amazing. It was inspiring to see the creativity and dedication of making the space a desired destination. Also, loved the oyster lunch on location.

"Glad you enjoyed the cabin revival! If I can make an old cabin look this good, there's hope for my DIY haircut skills too. And that oyster lunch? Just my fancy way to justify eating with my hands on the job!"

Absolutely awesome. We have a fishing/vacation cabin in Conroe Texas ( 40 minutes North of Houston) in the Sam Houston National Forrest on Lake Conroe that looks similar to this but we did several different things, some were on the cheap and some were not so cheap. We built a shower room with an Air Force Pallet (Metal Air-Cargo pallet) for the floor, they won't rust, for our lighting both inside and out we use Solar yard lights, they are cheap, You wouldn't believe how much light they actually put out and they don't require anything past putting them outside during the day. For our water we use 3 5 gallon water cans that we just go to the lake and fill every couple of days/whenever we need it. Our plan is to live there permanently within the next 2 years.

Your cabin sounds like a dream getaway! Using an Air Force pallet for the shower room floor is such a unique idea, and those solar yard lights must create a magical atmosphere at night. It's inspiring to hear how you've combined practicality with creativity to make your space comfortable and sustainable. Best of luck with your plans to make it your permanent home - sounds like paradise!

@@TinyCabinWeekends Thanks, We were looking for something that was so what affordable yet would last a long time, I spent 21 years in the Army and spent 16 years as medical logistics and we used them alot, I got mine on cheap from a D.O.D. auction so it was cheaper for us than it would be most people but evenm at the new $850 price tag it's still a very viable options, especally for anyone who has an outside shower.

Absolutely you could, we (my long term Gf and I) have a cabin similar to this on Lake Conroe in Texas and we plan on moving there once her daughter graduates high school next year and goes to college, her daughter has already been accepted to Sam Houston State's Green Energy/Sustainability Course, no were not "Enviromental Nuts" or "Eco Crazies", We are simply strong believers in being able to live off grid with living like it's 1776 without all the waste we have in present society, and Sam Houston State is 30 minutes up the road from our property. We have spent our last 3 summers getting everything ready to move up there, this year were going down there for a month, and get her daughters 16 foot camper that we bought put into place and rebuilding it, She has to live on campus her freshman year but her last 3 years she's going to live in her camper. 1. One piece of advice I give people who are considering doing this is find a piece of land that's out of town but not so far out of town that getting to town is a hassle because we as humans still need socialization. Our plan is to basically live off the land, mostly grow our own food and spend as little money as possible, the 2 things we are going to do though is were not going to have laundry facilities, and although we will hunt and fish for most of meat but we will still go into town to buy some meat and to do laundry, why? because it gives us a reason to socialize with others plus we plan on going "window shopping" every couple of weeks, once again just to socialize with others. the second piece of advice is don't buy too little of a piece of land that you can't do live off grid property or more land than you can handle, The Off Grid community experts say 2-3 acres per adult person for full time off grid living. We have 8 acres, which is just about perfect for 3 people.

Thanks for sharing your experience and valuable advice! It sounds like you've put a lot of thought and effort into your off-grid lifestyle. Living sustainably and self-sufficiently while still being connected to a community is definitely the way to go. Best of luck with your move and all your future endeavors on your beautiful piece of land near Lake Conroe!

@@TinyCabinWeekends I think it's important to pass along advice and share experiences with one another because some things we planned on doing turned out to be not so great ideas that we were advised not to do by experienced off-griders.

I want one! So what is the zip code in the area so I can look on the real estate sites for more info? Do you have cell phone service on the lot? Are roads passable with a shed in tow by a pro? Really a helpful video. Thanks a lot.

"I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video! The area is definitely charming. We do get spotty cell service on the lot, and the roads are generally passable for pros with sheds in tow. Happy cabin hunting!"

We (my long term gf and I) have 8 acres of raw land in Conroe Tx right on Lake Conroe, we paid 12k for it 5 years ago and have been spending the summers getting it ready to for full time living, Ours had an old delapidated camper and 2 16x12 sheds on it, the first summer we combined the Sheds together to make our cabin to make it a 16x24 (384 sq feet) cabin, which is perfect for us, We have spent the last 4 summers improving the land. We are moving down there permanently after her daughter graduates next May, her daughter will down there too because she is going to Sam Houston State University and will attend their Green Energy/Sustainabilty Program but she has to live on campus her freshman year and us living off grid will help her with her degree. The 2 pieces advice to people who are thinking about living off grid is 1. Don't buy a piece property too little that you can't live off grid sustainably or too big that you can't manage it properly and the property taxes eat you up. 2. Don't become a "lone wolf", Humans need to socialize with one another for our mental health, my gf I plan living off the land but not completely, we don't plan on having laundry facilities, we will go to a laundry mat at the camp ground near us once every couple of weeks, and although we will grow most of our own food and hunt and fish we will still go to the grocery store once in a while to buy meat, spices and other things like flour, sugar and other stuff, plus we will just go "window shopping", that gives us a reason to socialize with others once in awhile, we also have a small circle of friends down there to socialize with.

Don't want to invade your space, but after living in The San Juans, I need to be on the edge of civilization for medical (77yo) and shopping. Please share the name of a town or two (not too close) so I get an idea of where to look. The beach access looks totally awesome!!
