    Thank you for producing this video. I was undecided about which brand of portable table saw I wanted for my small shop. Your information tipped the scales toward Bosch when you showed how to adjust the slop in the fence. I am very grateful for your clear explanations throughout the video, thanks.

    Mike.... I have the older Bosch Model 4009 with the gravity rise table. I've had if for over 15 years with no issues. At the time I also ordered and installed two table extensions ((1) bolts on front for outfeed and another (2) for left side extension they each consist of two tubes with table level aluminum end which will slide in and out from/to the saw). I also bought several blade inserts for zero clearance purposes. This saw does everything I need in a table saw.

    I’ve owned two of those saws. Each one had seen daily use for about ten years. There was a defect common to both of them. After around three years I had to replace the shaft bearing on the commutator end of the motor. The would begin to squeal until total failure. I would hope that Bosch has taken steps to rectify this. Regarding the fence, I was always in the habit of pushing at the handle end in order to seat it before I locked it down. I honestly can’t remember if that was an intuitive move or something I had been told about.

      Makes sense there would be a technique to align the fence with the front rail before locking. Would be a good habit to get into just in case that knob gets turned in transit or say, by my 5 year old. I’ll have to figure that out for the review vid. Thanks for the tip!

    The fence on this saw was a mystery and a headache until I finally figured out the answer. Adjust the knob at the back so that the clamp at the front engages before the clamp at the back engages. It's very satisfying to see the fence come into alignment while clamping it in place, followed by the rear clamp locking itself into place.

    What is interesting about your fence issue is that alignment setup was documented in the manual of my (quite old now) model 4000. That old manual has notes on alignment and squaring of the table, motor, fence, throat plate leveling, etc. sounds like they’ve just slacked off…

      It's actually still there in the manual, see page 25 item 6: "Overtightening of the rear clamp adjustment screw 6 will cause the rip fence to be non-self aligning."

      It does and I think the version where I talk about this got edited out. It also said over tightening can cause chattering if I remember. Just got this saw. Was on my way to get the Metabo table saw from Lowes, but when I got there, the Bosch rep offered me a good deal on this one. It was almost the same price as the Metabo. Was skeptical about not getting the rack and pin fence but thought maybe Bosch didn't do the rack and pin for a good reason. Well, I got to use it today, and 2 things seemed funky to me right away. For some reason, I had assumed that Bosch, at this price, would have a blade breaking system. But no. I just have to wait for it to slow down. Since my previous table saw had the blade break, I found this to be a big problem for certain situations. Then, I just couldn't get psyched on all the fence repositioning I do with the non rack and pin. And... wait, why is there no rear table extension? Seems at this price range that should come with it. What do you think? I guess it's time for the Dewalt, Metabo, or possibly the Skil. Thanks for your awesome reviews

    • @RBrucePeck-po3nz

      I felt and still feel this saw is superior to all of the other saws in the price range. The smoothness of the fence and the rip capacity was the deciding factor. I built mine into a larger table for added work support. Negative comment was not able to raise guard up vertical to adjust width of cut.

    I have owned at least 5 of the Bosch table saws since the first one. These were the original. The fence has had no issues for me staying true. I did have to change the bearing on the motor armature on the last one. It cost $22 including shipping and took 20 minutes to swap out. I have bought others including a sawstop. I still like the Bosch the best. (sawstop is great but has a couple of serious flaws that have cost me a lot when my crew keeps breaking it).

    What a shame. I’ve read a lot of people really like theirs. I’m actually a big Bosch fan. I know they don’t get much love in the states here but everything I’ve got from Bosch, I absolutely love. I was gifted a ton of dewalt 20v when I started woodworking so if it wasn’t for that I’d most likely have a lot more Bosch. They do some things extremely well but seem to miss on other things. The jigsaw, routers, higher end sanders, are all excellent for me. I’d love to see Bosch get more love. They had an amazing deal on their tracksaw last week and if I wasn’t having a terrible couple of months I would’ve jumped all over it. UPDATE: I didn’t watch til the end. Glad it’s not a lemon. It took me too long to really learn my Delta T2 and dial it all in. I thought my Freud Glue Lone Rip blade was terrible, it’s an amazing blade once everything is dialed in. I can get glue line rips with my CMT combo blade as well. No up down method, move the boards around and perfect glue joints. Gotta check the fence for square often but for the price, it can’t be beat. It taught me a valuable lesson

    I’ve bee using mine for a long time and never thought about till seeing your video. Mine is out about 1.5 mm and no way playing with that back knob does anything to correct it. I’m going to have to shim the front tee part. Too bad, I really like the saw, but it’s kind of crumby that it’s not really adjustable. No way that rear knob can fix it at the front if the cross piece is not perpendicular to the bar.

      @@ProjectsForAllReviews I've learned in my elder years that if I get a product that I payed good money for and it does not live up to the standards set for that product, that I'm dialing that tech support right away. We used to say, in the Army, that you have to find the "old lady in the tennis shoes," in order to get things done. Most of the time if you talk to the engineers or architects they understand theory, not practice. Keep diving, once you find the operator, things get fixed. Now, you're from Chicagoland and I'm from NYC; perhaps, we can work something out. Just saying...

    I had this saw for just under 3 years before the motor crapped out. Changing the brushes didn’t help. Unsatisfied with the durability on the Bosch, I bought the DeWalt to replace it. By comparison, my old Bosch looks and feels like something from Fisher-Price. The DeWalt is vastly superior: better fence, less plastic under the hood, more stable stand. I also had a lot more dust trouble with the Bosch, as the design of cyclops lens on the fence collected so much dust that it was often impossible to dial in accurate measurements without using a tape or laser. The only thing I miss on the Bosch is the big fat off button, but overall, it feels like I traded up from a Corolla to a Porsche.

    So my 4100's fence is brand new. Right out of the box the fence is visibly misaligned and I dont know what to do. it was such a chore to unbox and I'm dreading teraing it down and going back to researching a good table. I tried this fix with almost no improvement. And I cant loosen the read bolt enough to make the fron tclamp snap in to place too easily. It still has quite a bit of tension and will NOT budge once locked even at the loosest setting. Wait to you hear how for off, i dont have to measure in 1000th's of an ich as it's plainly obvious. If i set the fence at 1", the read of the fence, the end farthest wasay from me is 1.2" away from the blade. WTF. This was only slightly improved using the method in this video but still at like 0.15" difference from the closest end of the fence. I'm sad

    I’ve had a 4009 for over 15 years. Works great - except for the miter slots. The gauge that comes with the saw is garbage - just like every other saw except that the bottom of the fence hits the side of the table causing you to have to bump the gauge slightly up. So I bought an Incra V120 and I can zero out the play in the channel. The problem is this after market gauge has the same bump problem. Hope your new one doesn’t have the same issue.

    • @ProjectsForAllReviews
      @ProjectsForAllReviews  9 місяців тому +1

      We’ll take a close look at that miter Keith. At a glance it’s the best one I’ve seen so far (metal). Most saws come with a throw away. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for watching!

    • @keithspinner5970
      @keithspinner5970 9 місяців тому

      Update: the Incra came with 4 nylon washers, 2 for the fence pivot and two for the locking pivot. Took me a while to put one of them below the fence pivot which gave JUST enough clearance so the gauge would slide through.
      Now I KNOW there’s gotta be another nylon washer to go under the handle and the pivot lock. None to be found. There was one flat washer left so I added three more and put two underneath both points and voila!
      The gauge that came with the Bosch still stinks.

    I had this saw, or a similar one, quite a long time ago... had bought it after doing a lot of research on saws, but it also had the issues where it would lock out of square really bad with the blade. made it almost unusable for me. They really should have come up with a system like a lot of contractor or cabinet saws that has it lock in from just the front so it pulls itself square every time.
    I even did some research on a possible way to put a new fence system on it, but most of what I found it would come close to the price of another saw anyways, so never bothered.

    Hi Mike, I love your review, but i'm totally in line with the former comment : this is NOT acceptable for a product supposed to be professional. This fence design is even hardly acceptable for Chinese made DIY saws such as Stanley SST 1800 B5 or Scheppach HS105. To me the only fence design that is professional is the one on the Dewalt 7492 with rack and pinion design. I Will never put that money on the Bosch table saw with such a design and will prefer a Dewalt fence design !!!! And I'm not the only one to think that : see who the Chinese copied to make the Skil table saw...
