Hi, I have a Tesla MY and I am not sure if I should get a Tesla or a different home charger. I have been looking at the Zappi, Ohme Pro and BG Sync. I do not have solar panels installed, but might be thinking at them in the future. What would you recommend?
Yeh I have the 15amp Tesla charger. I connect it to charge hq. It’s probably ok for my needs but if I want to charge faster, a level 2 charger is the go.
This is a very interesting point. If I have a 10 kWh solar system, and I use 5 kWh during the day, then my maximum ability use PV to charge my car is 5 kWh. So going level 2? For those times you need to charge using off peak energy? Or and when you have not enough PV or time.
Could you possibly cover the situation of needing two chargers and whether you can share the available solar production between two cars at once? When i checked a while ago I dont think Fronius supported two Wattpilots at the one site/inverter?
Mr sky that’s a great question. Yes, and I’m working on testing that (but I’m finding it logistically difficult) because I never trust a spec sheets. But, go with 2 Fronius Wattpilots an a fromous system and I know that will share surplus to the best extent possible. I want to work more on how that works with 2 Tesla chargers and I was visiting my mate at Penrith Solar Center and we discussed testing that today.I’ll hit Jake up again, he’s got the setup we need
The zappi can share surplus and load balance between up to 6 devices, and set priorities for devices. Works in a master/slave configuration, the master received all data and shares it with slaves.
Can you also comment on using the EV chargers for non-tesla EVs. If you have solar and battery is it worth still having a smart charger since most of the time you will be either using solar direct from panels or the battery...

The best one is the one your employer gives you... Even if that's not the one that would have worked best on your system...
Lol, agreed. Even better if they installed it at your workplace. What did they give you?
Really think you should consider a simple 15 amp wall charger, paired to solar catch relay with volt switch.

Yes, I’ve tested Byd and Kia also. Same results really.
Keen to see what you think of the connections (charger to house power).
Do you mean in respect to overloading the home? That’s a tricky topic
Still waiting for the full review. My choice for a charger is partly depending on what you found 😊
I’ve recorded it, we’re just editing it. Will be out next week!
