Thanks to the OP for this, which seems to be the most comprehensive info available. I’ve just successfully completed the process and thought it maybe useful to compile the various FAQs in one place. I had successfully replaced the battery in one key but broke the spare. (2007 fl2 td). I moved to try and recode an aftermarket key. Facts... 1. The AP200 does include the IMMO key programming function but the 200 c/h/m variants do not. 2. You will need to download the maxiAP200 application AND the appropriate Land Rover diagnostic subset AND any updates, the system will prompt you during the installation process 3. You will need all working key-fobs in addition to any new fobs to be programmed. The working keys will be validated. Working keys not included by you in the coding process will be disconnected and become permanently unusable. 4. The app will prompt you through the process of coding, inserting and removing keys and switching on the ignition as required. You will not need to start the car. 2nd attempts at coding the keys without restarting the app get a little confusing, app on screen messages can be ambiguous or plain wrong. 5. Uncoded keys WILL NOT stay in the key slot, they will pop out. What I found but which may not be true for you: 6. The first new key I got cost £24 I couldn’t programme it, the case opened easily. I sent it back 7. The second key cost £36 and programmed ok. The case was sealed as per LR originals 8. The new key popped out during the first attempt at coding the app messages suggest (as I read them) that you should restart the coding process with the original key, I didn’t, I simply retried with the same key held it into the slot The app gave a failure message but the key stayed in the slot I ignored the app, removed and reinserted the key, it held, and the car started ok, all systems and buttons worked. At no time did there seem to be a risk of breaking the existing working key Don’t forget to keep the metal emergency key portion of any defunct keys Hope this helps JF
Great video - followed your advice and programmed a new key no problem. The comments were also really helpful. The process was really smooth I think because I got the Autel AP200 in advance got it connected did a diagnosis run through so I knew the communication was working first. I also made sure there where no other Bluetooth connections going on with other devices. I think the main thing is to be patient as some screens take a long time to react. Thanks for helping me save a few hundred pounds. Ps I bought my FR2 on the basis the 1 and only key didn’t operate any locks but did start the car. Watched your video and thought that can be fixed relatively cheaply but the vendor thought it would cost £100’s so I got car for good price - happy days!!!

I have been with only one key since i had the car (3 years) and was worried that if it broke i would be in trouble, with your helpful video i have managed to programme a new one, had a few issues initially with it saying "Failed" but had another go today and went through perfectly, one thing i noticed, when it said to insert the blank key, the new key kept ejecting, so i held it in the slot for a few seconds then it said successful. Thanks again.
When you held it in, did it make the noise to pop it back out again? I've tried this 30 times now and mine just keeps popping back out before the 10 seconds is up. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've defintely got the right key.
I have just programmed a second key for my freelander this morning, was so easy using this video as a guide , only thing is my auto mirrors don't fold in or out with the new key but they are fine with the old key ? Anyone else have this problem ? Thanks to Michael for the video guide !
Hi, disconnect the battery for 10 15 mins. This resets most electronic confusion. You will then have to reset the windows for auto up down follow this procedure, Mike. Reset as follows :-* 1. Close the window fully.* 2. Release the switch, then lift it to the close* position and hold for two seconds.* 3. Open the window fully.* 4. Release the switch, then push it to the* open position and hold for two seconds.* 5. Lift and release the switch to operate the* one touch function.* 6. Repeat the procedure on each window.
Oh, and, proof of hardware purchase to support the free LR subset download is performed by the app scanning the QR code printed on the hardware. The code is about 6mm square and very hard to get in focus You can’t type in the serial number You can attach the hardware to the car and (ignition on) get the app to access the hardware serial number over Bluetooth
Hi. How many keys can I program. I programmed second key no problem, but when I bought a third key and again it programmed this key successfully but somehow the second key no longer works. Baffled as it was working ok.
I am def confused. Was going to order of Ebay until seller said AP200 would not programme keys. Have ordered one via Amazon as they list Autel instruction manual that tells you how to do it. Have had emails going back and forth between Autel who say it will NOT do it, most strange, so have referred them to this video.

Hi, The green light comes on to show its powered, the Blue light flashes / on when you have paired it with your phone. You should then connect to the apps
Where did you get the fobs? and what year is your Freelander. I’ve got one key that doesn’t work and one that does work on my Freelander 2 07reg any chance you can give me a link to buy that program you have on your phone I can’t find a garage in Birmingham to reprogram my spare key
George. The software comes with the dongle that plugs in. You will have to buy a new key as well as you can't re program an old key. I thought I put links in the video but I will check. Mike
Greetings Michael, I have a Freelander 2 2009 HSE and I just got my hands on the AP200 and got two new blank FOBs, just a month ago I try to program the new key with the SKP-900 tool and no luck. But I manage to program the key un 10 minutes with the AP200 and until now everting works perfect you video help me a lot. But one question in the process of programing, I got the instruction to put the keyless in position 1, later 2 and later 0. I must confess, I didn’t quite understand what I must do. So, I just left the key in the same position and it work. How was your process and what do you do in position 1,2 or 0?

Hi David. The old fob will still work. A word of caution don't buy used fobs as this type of fob is a one shot programme only, can't be reprogrammed to another car after, anway enjoy, Mike
Hi. I just programmed a blank key and 2 of the original keys to my Freelander. Hoping that I can lock and unlock the car wireless with the new key, but no. Anybody else have this issue resolved. I have previously changed battery on both original keys, and all worked fine for some months, but now none of the buttons operate.
They are original, I've checked the soldering. Also added a thin wire between battery and unlock button. But the 3 key is brand new, I managed to program it also. So after that I realized it have to be problem else where, but is it the RF reciver or antenna, or could it be a fuse somewhere?

Hi, enter 2 keys and start with the original key, it the clones the key as it asks you to put it in and out several times as instructed, while turning the ignition on and off (without starting the car), you will then put in the new key and the program will be copied on to the new chip. let me now how you get on. Got to timed part when you have to swap the old/new keys but the new one wouldn't stay in the slot, as if it's already programmed. Got an error message saying words to that effect. And another saying process failed. Thankful original key still works with 2 8 slots remaining.

Unfortunately not, it needs an original key to give permission for the programming, my thoughts would be is that you will have to go to a dealer and they can program a key by vin no. Sorry, hope you find them..

@@waynereardon yes, when I held it in, it made the ejecting sound but I just held it to stop it ejecting and it programmed
If it pops out hold it in it will then lock in position. Good luck

I don't know there is a maximum but when programming it asks how many keys you have. I have 3 programmed no probs

Position 0 - fob out. Position 1 fob in dock. Position 2 fob in dock ignition on. Hope that helps. Mike

Hi. This for programming a fob for a Fr2. The FR1 has key. I'm afraid I don't know how to program that key. Sorry mike
