Great video’s. I live in New York and just bought my first Land Rover LR2 2008. I found your channel and learned a lot. Keep up the good work.
As a Freelander 2 owner just love the stuff you do, the modifications you've made and the upgrades you've come up with. Basically if you say it's OK - it's OK! No need for further research! Thanks for the time and effort you put into the channel - it's much appreciated.
Thanks for your kind words... i am not an expert but i do give honest impartial impression of what we do and and find etc
Quick update. Watched your great video a few times more then took the plunge. SUCCESS. Now have a second key fob. Thanks very much. FYI before all of this, I heard my washing machine clanking away only to discover the AutelAP spinning around inside the washing machine (it had been in my shorts pocket). So I can also report that despite this mishap it still worked thank God. :)
Thank you. I used this procedure pn my son's 2009 LR2 in the USA. It worked flawlessly, so thanks again. I really appreciate you making this video.
Already done this video 2 years ago, but fanbase will appreciate as it's a great channel. Keep them coming.
Looks like you caught me napping ! I did not even know this tool existed till someone told me in the comments last week !
@@L663 Your way ahead for Freelander 2 equipment and gadgetry so I only stand in your shadow lol........
Very handy video that chaps, a lot cheaper than getting one from a dealer or aftermarket key cutter. Great to see the orange D3 back in the shop again!
Thank you so much for this video. I just order the AP200 and a fresh keyfob off of Amazon for less than half of what my local garage wanted to charge me for a new fob.
Fingers crossed it works out.
@@paulgill7222 it worked for a while, then the fob stopped working as if it's blank again. Im thinking it was an issue with the new fob itself?
@@JadYammine the fact that it worked, even if was a few minutes, that means the ap200 did work. I ordered two key fobs for a toyota rav4 . The company in China had installed the batteries. Both remotes did not light up at all. I opened to check and found the batteries were OK but the little tabs were not touching the batteries. I pulled on them so they would make contact to the battery. It was simple as that and now both light up. I'm pretty sure it is the fob in your case. Hopefully you will figure it out. Thanks for the reply and hope you will figure it out.
You are a gentleman and a scholar! You just saved me $600. Was a little clunky but did the job and your video made me comfortable with some of the stranger messages
Thanks ever so much for this. I bought the Autel and followed the instructions. Things went a bit weird around the final step but some sort of witchcraft happened and it all worked!
@@L663 if it’s relevant, mines a 2009 made car. I initially found the pairing process to be a bit clunky but it’s worked so I’m not complaining!
Hi 👋 thanks again for another great 👍 video.
🙏🙏
worked like a dream, thank you
Great video. Thanks, mate!
Perfect! Thank you!
Great video Simon. Looks like you had a much easier time than me with the AP200. I did a review video on one last year and was not impressed with it at all. Took me HOURS to get mine to pair up. Had to ‘forget’ all other bluetooth devices and hold my phone very close with ign on before it would pair. Once paired, I managed to read and clear the codes, but when I tried again last week after an unexplained limp mode, I couldn’t pair it at all and threw it in the bin. Maybe mine was a fake?
Now, I've just bought a Freelander 2 (i6) today, because you have made so many good videos on the car, including some serious mud-drives ;) So I will blame you for all the fun I am going to have.
Yes, it's not a virgin car, as there's plenty of long grass and mud stuck underneath ;)
Cheers.
Because of this video I was able to use the Autel to program a second key here in the states. I didn’t do the clearing codes part at the end, but both keys work, so I don’t think that part was necessary!
Great video Simon, good info and easy to follow. I wonder if the tool would work for the post 2012 Freelander's that don't have the docking facility?
Top videos 👍👍👍
I have the same setup 2014 LR 2 and purchased the maxiap and I dont have the program key option on that page. 8:31
I was wondering do you have to reprogram the old key or just use it to start the process for the new key and basically how to keep the old key working after doing the new key!?
Great video Simon. I bought the new key of eBay and using your video all worked brilliantly. The original key was a bit battered so I bought another new key from same shop on eBay. Again it programmed the second new key with no issues, however on completion the first key has stopped working altogether as if it been wiped . Now I have original tatty case fob and second new working but not first new fob. Where did I go wrong.
Believe all of them have to be done at the same time regardless of whether they are working or not perhaps...?
Have you tried doing it with the OBDII ?? I tried doing a friend's Freelander 2 the other night and there was no listing in the menus. I emailed GAP and they said it can't be done ? only on the later ones that have the Disco 4 key and don't suck them into the dash.
Can you check if this still works because I’ve got the exact same one & their isn’t a + button so I can’t download the Land Rover software
I have a problem when I unlock my freelander the locks relock. I have to catch the door open before the locks re lock. The other day I got out to open a gate left the engine running and the door closed and I couldn't get back in eny idea what I should look for. Help. Love the show very informative
Anyone got a link to one of these I can only find the red ones on eBay and someone has stated they don't do the key coding. Cheers
Hi! I have a problem with my Freelander 2 model 2010 . There is a triangle sign with exclamation mark that pop up on the dashboard. Pls help hownto sort it out.
Hi there, I have recently purchased a 59 plate freelander 2 and we to only have one working key. If I were to buy the same blank as you did would you be able to program it for me if I drove up to your location? For a fee of course
Thank you
Would the AP200 let me fix invalid VIN code on my replacement radio? Thanks
Thanks Simon for another great video, doing the things we all want to try but are too scared to!
I saw the app showed operations such as SRS, TPMS, DPF, etc. Can you please find out if any of those actually work with the Autel unit on a Discovery 4?!
Thanks
Very interesting, my keys are no longer unlocking my FL2 so I had to use the little real key and set the alarm off 😂 my keys will start the car but I can’t lock my car as I think the rechargeable battery is goosed, as far as I know you can replace the battery but you need to snap open the key case and in solder the existing battery and re solder the new battery, seems a bit fiddly, once all this is done you need to glue the case shut as they don’t snap shut again.
Top job 👏
Next how do you upgrade to the Dolby amp to drive the extra speakers
Can you do the same job with the older freelander my one is 06 reg
Will it work with a L322 3.6TDV8 MY 2007?
My key isn't working. Can start the car with the key but the remote isn't working.
I had to buy a new transponder PCF7936AS and now I want to make it work.
Bingo!!! This DOES work on a US 2006 LR3 HSE using the 315MHz remote from Amazon (Keyecu). Be careful!!!! I initially thought I wiped my one and only remote, but after pulling the battery for 20 minutes my remote started working again.... phew! Thanks Simon and Tyler. You legends!!!!
@garethb405 I'm trying this right now with my 2006 LR3 HSE V8 here in Canada, but when I click on the "Program Keys" button, it spins for a second then disappears. It doesn't give any prompts or information. Did you run into that? And if so, how did you get around it?
@@shoyavoorthuyzen That did not happen to me. Sounds suspicious, I wonder if they did something different on the Canadian version. I did read somewhere that there were two versions of the OBDII plug in dongle from Amazon, but I bought the only one I found on there. Maybe there's something on your phone (settings) that's hindering it.
@@garethb405 it's weird because if I select the configuration shown in the video above (Freelander -> 2011-2012 -> Diesel I4) and then go to Hot Functions and Program keys, it starts giving me the instructions to reprogram the keys. But if I use auto-select, or manually select Discovery -> 2005-2009 -> Normally Aspirated V8, then when I press Program Keys, nothing happens. Did you select that same configuration, or did you select something else?
I'm just worried that if I use the wrong configuration, it might break things, but if it worked for you, then I would try it
Hello, anychance you mght tell me which version is softver of yours? Mine is 2.03 and i dont have that option on app. Cheers.
Hi I have lost all keys but the car is unlocked. Do I need a working key to do this? Thanks
Hi guys. Excellent video as usual but could you please just clarify if this can be used to create a duplicate key from an existing working key ie I have just one functioning key when I purchased Evoque Pure Tech 2013 recently. Many thanks.
Oh , will you get round to offering black gloss covers for the horrible silver fog light plastic blanks for the early Evoque without fog lights fitted ? 👍🤞
Hi - yes sorry - we had just one key and now we have 2 ! But i am not sure if this will work with the Evoque - this is a more complex KVM ( Keyless Vehicle Module )
Those early fog blanks are not a thing of beauty ! need to think what we can do about this design travesty !
Can you do the same with the LR Disco 4 (2012 model) using the AP200 ? I am attempting to program a new reserve key (and failing so far) - the software available for the disco dosent appear to have a "program key" function. Just one that says verify keys and then enable passive keys ? Its all a bit confusing!
does this work on a 2014 one with the new key?
Where can I buy a Maxi AP200 I have tried everywhere and cannot find anyone who sells them. I need to programme a key for a Freelander 2 (2011) is there another unit I can buy? Your help would be appreciated
I bought mine from Amazon. I also have 2011 FL2. Key programmed no problem
Hello. Great videos and information on your channel. I was wondering if you have tried to program a 2013 lr2 key fob with the newer style fob? Like the fob Ben has on his Freelander lr2?
Hi - interesting - but on the older cars it needs to fit into the dash "mouth" so not sure the later keys would be mechanically compatible ?
Sorry. I meant a video of you programming the newer style fob with the matching year. As an extra fob for the 2013 lr2. Just wondering if the Maxi AP200 would do it.
Hi Simon I was all excited about this vlog as I want to programme a blank key, but I don't have the Autel tool but I do have the Gap iid tool, the option to programme a key and all my other land rovers is there but not when connected to the Freelander 2? it would be great if you could give me some insight to what I maybe doing wrong, I have updated the Gap IID tool and the option to programme a key isn't there and yes I have unlocked the tool to the car HELP
I have spoken with GAP diagnostics and the GAP IID tool CANNOT programme these keys for the FL2 unless the car is 2013 or newer. very disappointed to say the least
would this work for a car with a lost key
is there diference between 300 and 400 mhz key i ordered on ebay ? i think i got the 300 one and coulnt make spare key i ordered 400 mhz key
Yes you need the one to match your car - 315Mhz is normally USA and 400Mhz is UK Etc
Hi Guys, i brought the exact kit that youve got, key and the Autel system from yourselves, but when it comes to programming my key i just get "security status Failed" come up and it not allow me to program the key. Do you know a way around this or why its saying that?
I've had similar happen to me; when I get to put the blank key in for the 1st time totally rejects it and spits it out. Eventually the app says fault and possible key already programmed. Contacted the key supplier, assured me it was new and gave me a refund. I'll try with another new key. Anyone else struggling, ie, new unprogrammed key being totally rejected?
Simon and Co, have you ever tried this unit to program a second key for a Mk3 L322 2010-2012 Range Rover?
Thanks for the video! I just tried on a 2009 Freelander 2, at the point inserting the blank key, it just spits it out after a second and I get an "unknown error" on the app... What do you think could be the issue?
7:53 on the Video, Autel says, that new key can be ejected during the program procedure (as it was my case as well with 2 x new keys), however, they were still programmed at the end of the process.
Hey Bro what year is the Land Rover ?
Hello , thanks for the video actually just copyed my FOB. Just got one problem, it starts with the fob, but doesnt open.. do you know if I did something wrong?
best regards,

Yes i suspect that the battery in the unit is flat - open the case and you will see a rechargeable battery ( coin cell type )
We had to unsolder ours recently and charge it on the workbench - then refit it and it all works.
Yeah h Seth
Nice. I have just bought the AP200M.Any idea if it will allow me to get the upgraded amplifier and windscreen heater to work(yes I do have the panel, screen and relay fitted) on a 2010 GS
Hi Jim - not sure I will have to play around with it and see what it can do !
Whats the deal with the windscreen heater - do you mean the heated windscreen - for this surely you need the glass with the wires in ?
@@L663 I had the heated front windscreen fitted some time back followed by the relay and a used control panel. Unfortunately the control panel is not being recognised by the car so the original is back in. The same with the amplifier upgrade. I have the additional speakers fitted but the system does not recognise it and switches off

Can this do 2010 LR4?
Hi all, anyone know if this works on a Freelander 1, thanks you🤞
For future reference fault codes should be erased 'before' programming a key,as faults can sometimes prevent a key being programmed.:-)
Hi Simon ….great vid and would have been v useful if the AP200 and current software allowed key programming - it doesn’t!! Somewhere between your vid and now there has been an update that removes the key programming feature. Bl……..y annoying because the packaging and blurb gives the impression that you still can!
There maybe 2 models - some people in the comments are saying the white model works ? etc

I just can't get this to work... I have the right model Autel plug ... I go through the process of inserting the valid key etc... then when it comes to the part where you have 20 seconds to remove valid key and insert key to be programmed it just keeps spitting the blank key out, I've purchased a further 2 new blank keys from a different supplier but the same result keys won't stay in the key slot to get programmed😢
7:53 on the Video, Autel says, that new key can be ejected during the program procedure (as it was my case as well with 2 x new keys), however, they were still programmed at the end of the process.
There is a CR2032 battery in the key for the central but land rover said that you cannot open it to put a new battery in it you have to buy a new key for them at a £165+vat . On the internet it shows you a guy getting in to it . I have tried it but cannot do it . I will have to get a new fob from eBay and program it in then I will try putting a battery in the old one so if I break it I will still have a key
The fob you see in the video if same is your is a soldered in battery. So land rover doesn't make it easy
What obd tool can i buy that will reprogram a new key dock ?
Interesting - I dont think the dock needs programming - but not sure - surely it just reads the number and reports it to the master module etc ?
@@L663 If you replace the key dock (they regularly fail) the dock itself has to be reprogrammed. I am searching for tool to do this so I can replace my key dock, the part only costs £130 and is easy to replace, but Land Rover want £450. The only tools I can find to do this cost north of £1,000

Hi Simon, please advise on the correct key I should buy for my car FL2 2011, the original key shows 433.92 Mhz (I am in Australia). I bought a 433Mhz key (Land Rover Freelander 2 2007-2015 Remote Key Fob 433Mhz 5 Button LR013005) from a few eBay stores which indicates works for 433Mhz/433.92Mhz/434Mhz and part number LR013005. However, all of the keys keep ejecting while trying to insert to program for them ( ua-cam.com/users/shortsdeCoRkKwZic?si=PAh2ciy5qOir3H2B ). Please advise thank you.
It seems you are using the correct key - not sure what the error is - there are many key options on the market.

Any advice? Will the OEM key will it work? I am not so sure cause the OEM key will be costly and I am not sure if it can work for my car.
Do you need your old key to do this?
@@L663 My old key doesn't have a transponder inside in my L322 MY 2007. The pre-owner lost it. I want to buy a new transponder (PCF7936AS). I can open and start the car manually.
Is it possible to re-code it so that I can start the car and use the remote to open the car?
Did you try a new battery before diving in with a new key? They usually use 2032 lithium type. Either that or 2016 or 2025, but usually 2032. They generally last about two years before needing to be replaced. Indication that they need replacing is that they lack range, ultimately to the point that they will only start the car, if it is a button start model, if placed in the spacial emergency start place which all such cars have.
It was odd in that I had problems with unlocking - but locking was always OK and i only had the one key so i went for the new key option so i knew everything was new.
@@L663
Yes I’ve had problems just unlocking and starting keyless-start cars before now. Problems with locking tend to be confined to longer range.
Having short arms and very deep pockets where moths reside, I would certainly have replaced the battery first. Is it too late to do so now or have you destroyed the old keyfob?
The FL2 uses a rechargeable VL2330 battery that’s soldered in place in the fob. Mine are both still ok at ten years old!
