Valentine's interviews are great! He has so much respect for other workers and for the business itself. He tells his truth and you can hear the conviction behind every word. He believes what he says, and what he does... When he was in "Rhythm & Blues" viewers could tell that he didn't believe in that character. But everything else that he has ever done was so convincing! Guys like Muraco, Tito, Valentine, and Morales made the IC belt so extremely prestigious. I remember that in the PWI rankings whoever wore the IC strap was immediately installed as the number 1 contender to the World Championship. Greg n Flair were a underrated tag team . They were loved in NC , SC , & VA. They had great matches against Gene n Ole Anderson. Greg could have been a solid heel NWA champion . His interview skills were solid .Not Flair level but good enough. His match with Piper helped draw that 83 starrcade just as much as Flair vs Race . His match against Kerry Von Erich for the Missouri title is on you tube .Great match
I seen a card with Greg as a main event years back. I can't remember who he was wrestling(I'm 62 and have seen alot of matches) lol. But man this guy could dish out and also take the most brutal chops you could imagine. Brutal. Very believable. Every punch , chop , suplex etc was as real as it could be. Great worker. Great heel! Tough SOB. I love the Hammer Valentine. Been to a couple Flair matches too. Ric just had the "it facter" going on. Charisma out the ass. But hammer is right. You seen one Flair match , you've pretty much seen them all. I agree as a worker Hammer was a better worker. Flair just had that Charisma so much that you would be sucked right in.

I saw Greg Valentine and Bob Backlund wrestle to a 45-minute time-limit draw at the Capital Centre in 1984 (after Backlund lost the WWF title to the Iron Sheik but before he left the WWF). It was one of the best matches I ever saw. Those 2 guys are legends, much better workers than Flair and Hogan (who were still great in their own right).

Greg is right. They didn't need Hogan on the card. Valentine and Santana had some really great matches for the IC belt better than any Hogan match I saw at the time. That feud was fire!
I was always a Greg Valentine fan. I think Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan were obviously the bigger names and bigger draws but I think the Hammer has a very good point. If you dissect a Greg Valentine match he may actually be a better worker. He had his set spots that he would always do like everyone does but he's right his matches were different but for me the difference is the psychology in the ring and the storytelling he's reknown for and he's right again when he says he doesn't get a lot of credit for. I don't even think its debatable Greg was a hell of a lot better technical wrestler / worker than Hogan and Flair and he was also a cardio machine. He's right also his matches were always different.Hogan and Flair had the same exact matches and moves throughout their careers
I saw Greg Valentine many, many times in Raleigh, NC at the Dorton Arena. He bled a bucket of blood or two at least in that building for us. As a kid, Greg Valentine was intimidating and sort of scary, he was so tough.
My dad partied with Greg Valentine, I think B4 or the start of his game, and they were wild. My dad had Nothing bad to say at all. My dad was a ladies man, had a band, had access to party favors, and they also just had normal fun hanging out. Great guy.

He's always been that way. Great interview and i'd glad guys like him call out people like Flair and Hogan. Because there are PLENTY of other talents that are right up there with them. That haven't gotten what they so rightfully deserve.
I've been watching some Hammer matches to refresh my memories (and go back farther than that, seeing some matches from before I started watching wrestling) and he's 100% right. He makes it look real, in a way I didn't fully appreciate as a kid/teenager back in the 80s, and even now when I know it's all predetermined and he's working with his opponents rather than against them, he makes it easy to suspend disbelief. He really deserved a run with the top belt, and it's unfortunate that flash and glam prevailed, both then and in the long run, over Valentinian realism.
One of my favorites of all time was Greg vs Backlund at MSG. An hour long match that had everyone at the edge of their seats. Greg was an excellent heel in the early 80s.
I think The Hammer has point he did tons of great matches. Valentine and Roddy Piper were the original bad guys. Go back and watch their interviews the fans threw everything but the kitchen sink at them and they stayed in character
I always respected Valentine when it came to Saturday's Night Main Event I looked forward to seeing his matches like he said his stuff always looked way more believable
Greg the hammer Valentine vs the nature boy Ric Flair would be a hell of a lot better for Flairs last match than the one planned because Jeff Jarrett isn't worthy of the honor
No doubt about it, Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine was a much more technical wrestler than Hogan or Flair. Watch the video evidence there’s no denying the obvious 🎯💯%. Thanks for always keeping it real Greg. 👍
When I was little kid, my first match was Valentine vs Santana. I thought Valentine must be Hogan due to long blonde hair (I was really young). I couldn’t understand why Hogan was so popular as he was clearly a bad guy (Valentine). But boy I sure was disappointed when I eventually saw a Hogan match. Even as a dumb little kid, I could see a huge difference between Valentine and Hogan. Valentine looked so tough, and his punches looked so powerful, and I thought he was really fighting. Hogan was like a cartoon character, and his punches were such a joke.
If you think about it, it makes sense because WWF was geared more towards the younger audience so their wrestlers were more like comic book characters.
Greg the hammer valentine was always the real deal in professional wrestling. Greg chops to the chest was just as hard and just as good as great Wahoo McDaniel
The fans loved wrestling and that is why they sold out. Fans got way more invested than today. The hammer was an awesome wrestler when I got to see him and would have been a great NWA/WCW champion.
To me, Greg Valentine's biggest moment came in 1977 when he broke Wahoo McDaniel's leg. That made him the most hated wrestler in the US. With that act, he took the Most Hated Wrestler torch in the Mid-Atlantic with that act. The only other wrestler to do that before was The Masked Superstar when he burned The Mighty Igor's eye with a cigar. That put him up there with Flair, Valentine, and Blackjack Mulligan as a really hated heel.
This man is stuck with great memories of the past.Piper passing was unreal until this day in 2022.Pipers Pit was the only thing that turned me on to watching the WWF.
one of my favorites. he meant much more to me than your typical wrastlin heros. he was a wrestler i felt was physically representing me. there hasnt been wrestlers like him up until lately. hes always been a stocky fella even in his prime when he looked like a million bucks.
I LOVE Listening to Greg The Hammer and he is UNDERRATED Don't know if he s a Better Worker than Flair but he was VERY GOOD U NEVER HERE THE HAMMER TALK BAD ABOUT ANYONE
Valentine was inducted into the WWE HOF right after Billy Graham. Superstar was the man who put the entertainment in sports entertainment, while Valentine was the man who kept the sport in it. I became a fan because of Hogan, but the cage match with Valentine and Tito Santana told me that I can never miss it. Savage and Steamboat stole WM3, a year later Valentine wrestled them both in one night.
I love Greg! When I first started watching the WWWF at the time, he was one of my favorites. I love Hulk and while I don't like Ric Flair a lot, I believe his early career is HOF worthy and his stuff with the Horsemen is also. I realize Hogan and Flair were more over for longer, etc. However, I have no problem with Greg saying he was better than both of them because if you can't believe you're the best ever then it shows in your performances. Why do something if you can't have that confidence in yourselves and strive to be the best at it?
You were a much better worker 100 % . Before you mentioned your face drop it immediately came to mind as I always thought yours was superior to Ricks’ as his is often ridiculous looking . Since I was young (62 yrs old now ) I thought you were the most believable of all pro wrestlers . Lanny Poffo mentioned in a shoot interview that when he was a kid he knew that it wasn’t real except when it came to Johnny Valentine , he was real . Coincidentally I felt the same . When it came to Greg . “ This guy is real and quite scary ! , I wouldn’t want to be the guy in the ring with him .” Believability should be what really determines who the best is . So Greg should be on the Mount Rushmore of pro wrestlers .
In a championship match vs Backlund at MSG Greg ‘s takedowns and reversals were even superior to Backlund’s and more real looking. For a heel he was vastly better than the great majority of “technical” wrestlers. PLUS as Ray Stevens did so well he could make inferior guys look even better than they were; that’s a worker.
I always found it weird that they never booked Valentine in the WWF into the main event yet pushed Flair to the moon. They had the exact same style and got heat the same way.
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine" was one of the reasons why I favored heel wrestlers. Some fans were so simple back in the day constantly giving Hulk Hogan most of the credit. But I liked wrestlers like Greg Valentine that could often work the crowd. As for Hulk Hogan, I won't knock him too much. Hogan definitely had a huge hand during the Rock and Wrestling period. The "War to Settle the Score" was one of the most anticipated wrestling shows ever to this day at MSG. The Hulk Hogan vs Rowdy Roddy Piper match was off the charts. But Greg Valentine vs Tito Santana feuds were pretty damn good too back in the day. If the Hammer ranks himself arguably number 1 when comparing himself the Hogan and Ric Flair, I can definitely respect that.
Like watching Greg as well as Ronnie Garvin. They weren’t in your face style wrestlers, and I like that too, but for some reason, they were fun to watch.
I'm not even a true Greg Valentino fan but now that he mentions it, I totally recall seeing him in many a long ass match and silently thinking " dang! this guy can go and go and go. And he wasn't the leanest guy lol. He's sure naturally gifted.
Hogan's original finishing move was called the "Hogan Hammer"...it was a clothesline move, he used to wear a rubber elbow brace and hide a "foreign" object in it...he busted Andre the Giant up with it in an early TV match...
He’s right he was better but when a wrestler like Flair or Valentine say they were the 60 minute man even though it’s a work saying you’re a 60 minute man you’re saying you’re not good enough to beat anybody.
Valentine was a solid journeyman wrestler. He could have a match with anyone at any position on the card. But he did not have the charisma that Flair and Hogan had. I like The Hammer, and you could not run a promotion without guys like him.

I've always enjoyed watching Valentine work. Such amazing talent!
“The Hammer” as a black kid growing up I loved this dude
Greg the hammer Valentine vs the nature boy Ric Flair would be a hell of a lot better for Flairs last match than the one planned because Jeff Jarrett isn't worthy of the honor
great stuff. I saw Valentine vs Strongbow in person, one of my favorite memories
Best match I ever saw was Honky Tonk Man vs Yokozuna
I have ALWAYS liked GV. His matches looked real. He should have got a bigger push in WWF
No doubt about it, Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine was a much more technical wrestler than Hogan or Flair. Watch the video evidence there’s no denying the obvious 🎯💯%. Thanks for always keeping it real Greg. 👍
Agree but not more entertaining
Nice jacket hammer
Tell it like it is Greg! Fantastic.
The fans loved wrestling and that is why they sold out. Fans got way more invested than today. The hammer was an awesome wrestler when I got to see him and would have been a great NWA/WCW champion.
I remember, very well the matches with Backlund and Morales. Greg did a great job!
THE HAMMER could GO !!!
"Im the guy that did 60 minutes" - Greg the Hammer Valentine
Greg Valentine is like the swiss army knife! True real all around wrestler. Thank you sir for all the memories.
That is one cool looking jacket he got on.
I LOVE Listening to Greg The Hammer and he is UNDERRATED
Don't know if he s a Better Worker than Flair but he was VERY GOOD
U NEVER HERE THE HAMMER TALK BAD ABOUT ANYONE
His elbow drop was lethal! I thought he’d put somebody through the floor with it! Greg was a worker.
Yea, and you should’ve seen his father’s! Johnny Valentine’s!
Don’t forget the double ax handle.
In CWF there should be a video of him breaking boards or such with his Elbow.
Look up the video of him breaking wooden boards with that elbow. Lethal is an appropriate word for sure.
Didn't call him The Hammer for nothing 💪
Valentine was inducted into the WWE HOF right after Billy Graham. Superstar was the man who put the entertainment in sports entertainment, while Valentine was the man who kept the sport in it. I became a fan because of Hogan, but the cage match with Valentine and Tito Santana told me that I can never miss it.
Savage and Steamboat stole WM3, a year later Valentine wrestled them both in one night.
I always hated the Hammer, he was the ultimate heel. I love watching his interviews now and hearing everything he lived through. 🙌
If you hated him, it shows he did his job well.
@@IceDragon1377 yeah, I love the old guy now. 🙌
I was so furious at Greg for "injuring" Tito I think I was mad for 20 years about it haha
Bruno said the same thing " you seen one Rick Flair match you've seen them all.
Flair was the best....because after wrestling the same match twenty thousand times there's no way he could make any mistakes.
This is what you call a old school wrestler. Last of a dying breed. Highly underrated 👋
hammer was actually one favorite wrestler for me when i was young. not the one but of of my favorites.
he was the perfect wrestler. his style look etc
Hammer is the WWF version of Bobby Eaton. Not technically but both guys there wasn't anybody they couldn't get a good match out of. Ring Generals
Greg and Rowdy Roddy Piper my two favorite of all time, loved watching and listening to them and the super fly
He speaks the truth. This guys my all time favorite
these Hammer interviews are wrestling shoot gold. love it.. and 100% that faceplant was his
A great wrestler in his prime. I remember him from my youth!
I hated him as a kid in the mid to late 80's. Very intimidating. Great heel.
Love watching his interviews
Mr. Valentine, you have a great sense of humor!
Great stuff. I loved this guy growing up and he is just a great guy.
Same
Tito Santana made so many of these guys look good. Like macho man he was a heavy weight doing cruiser weight moves. A special wrestler
Obviously you're not a fan, you're mistaking "Valentino" for the notorious synth muscle freak 🤣
@@ThouSwell-zx3fd A rose by any other name...
Hogan's original finishing move was called the "Hogan Hammer"...it was a clothesline move, he used to wear a rubber elbow brace and hide a "foreign" object in it...he busted Andre the Giant up with it in an early TV match...
Greg Valentine made a lot of guys look better than they were. The hammer would give more than Flair could handle by far
He’s right he was better but when a wrestler like Flair or Valentine say they were the 60 minute man even though it’s a work saying you’re a 60 minute man you’re saying you’re not good enough to beat anybody.
Great interview, Greg. I miss Piper too.
I love the The Hammer Valentine interviews he's the Katt Williams of Wrestling🤣🤣🤣
Hammer...
I saw Valentine vs. Iron Sheik at Charleston, SC County Hall 1981
Memory I'll never forget.
I swear this man doesn't age! He looks practically the same as he did at the first WrestleMania!
Valentine was a solid journeyman wrestler. He could have a match with anyone at any position on the card. But he did not have the charisma that Flair and Hogan had. I like The Hammer, and you could not run a promotion without guys like him.
I met The Hammer at a show here in Canton Oh years ago and had a great conversation with him. He was a class act.
Valentines was a big heel in wwf. Wars with Tito Santana, the bulldogs and bob backlund.
