Your statement about not being able to get into materials like this (Near the beginning) because they don't look seasoned enough makes me wonder if you've actually paid attention to what basic training looks like in most military services? Youngsters are the order of the day.
So something that you might find interesting is that from everything I've read and heard they made this for 2 reasons. 1. Obviously to advertise Halo 4 and drum up interest in it. And 2. To show WHY Lasky is so trusting of Chief in Halo 4, to the point that he's willing to disobey orders and commit insubordination against his captain in order to help the Chief hunt down the Didact. It also shows why when he heard that call sign (Sierra 117) in Cortana's s.o.s. beacon he immediately made a B-line for requiem. He feels indebted to Chief for saving his life all those years ago.
Love your Halo content!! Maybe you look at Halo: Legends (anime side stories) or Halo: The Fall of Reach (origin of Chief and the Spartan II's) series and movie, respectively.
Pablo Schreiber (Master Cheeks) told us we need to see the chiefs eyes in order to portray emotion. I saw more emotion in that final shot with the chief looking down his shaky rifle than the whole of the halo TV show to date.

Correct me uf i am wrong, but from what i recall, they were 14~16 when they underwent the augmentation process, then had a good bunch of missions against the insurrectionists/time passed, before even getting their armor, and being deployed against the covenant. So during "forward unto dawn" timeframe, at the beggining of the covenant war, they may be around 17-ish? What makes the ending scene, when they see Fred and Kelly’s faces, so much better is not only are the Spartans 15 at this point but Lasky and his friends are in their early 20s. So Sully was realizing they had their asses saved by kids a whole five years younger than them, and they’re absolutely huge. It’s why he asks “So how old are you guys?” Because he cannot believe that they’re as young as they look, and honestly I don’t blame him.
@basilhound6720 Even modern day military academies in the US have a minimum age of 17. I could easily imagine it dropping to 15 for a military hegemony like the UNSC.
@@generalx13 The UNSC tried Halsey for making child soldiers and experimenting on them, so that would be extremely inconsistent with what we’ve seen from them. I’m fairly sure the UNSC doesn’t take anyone younger than 17, Enlisted and Officers, if my memory is correct.
Forward Unto Dawn was originally a Mini Series. 5 Short 15 minute "Episodes". This is all 5 episodes stitched together into one. That's why the fade to black is there, it was the end of the episodes.
Chief not taking off his helm served two purposes for me. Partly for the fan service of "Haha, we never see his face." but also that he was at the back of the Pelican, keeping watch until the doors closed. He was still in combat mode.
@@Yourhandlesystemsucks I really don’t get how seeing Chief jump down 3 meters for 10 seconds is worth it, most of the other slo mo shots are aok but that one makes me cringe every time lol And most of the others feel kinda useless too but not as annoying

I actually love the contacts and the way they portrayed the spartans. I wish they did it this way in the show. Ordinary humans should look at spartans with awe, and the spartans should look superhuman in and out of the suit.
Okay, so. The Spartans were 15 at this point (few months up or down) and Lasky and co were 16. They underwent their augmentations when they were 14, they got a first mission (where Chief got wounded, promoted and decorated) against innies and then the Covenant attacked. Then John and Blue Team had the first mission against the Covenant, where they lost Sam, and after that the UNSC issued them with MJOLNIR, so they would have sealed suits harder to compromise than the modified ODST gear they had before. They're still the unshielded version of MJOLNIR, though, so it's just plating and performance enhancing armor (which is still fantastic). And the eyes of Spartan IIs are described as impossibly bright, due to their augmentations, and it's a great thing the movie was consistent with it. They're otherworldly, almost, with eyes impossibly bright and skin impossibly pale. It's leagues better than Master Cheeks being a regular dude in power armor.
@@MrAngelBites right! Thanks, it's been a while since I read The Fall of Reach, and it was the first edition too. I heard they rectonned parts afterwards?
@@jorgedeanoperez2997 I haven’t read the newer version but I they they changed things to make Halo: Reach’s timeline work better. Since the chief would be trying shields for the first time after covenant were already spotted on reach.
One thing that could be of interest to you about Halo media, which is often overlooked, is "Halo: Legends" its a collection of 7 short films made by different japanese anime studios. They are kind of weird with the combination of Halo + over the top anime action but they're a fun watch.
bro fr, my favourite is still origins part 2. Cortana's lil monologue mixed with the music is tight. "Darkness born in eons past became a threat to all life once again. And humankind and the Covenant, who had drowned for so long in each other's blood, were united, if only for the briefest moment, against a terrible enemy they both shared. Righteous souls continued to fight, believing they could defeat the darkness. And as they fought together, they stumbled together into peace."
@@wadewilson9290 Ironically, that quote is not what happened in the games at all. In fact, for the briefest moment, humanity and THE FLOOD united to defeat the greater threat of The Covenant.
Yes, thanks to the Patrons support, I am now starting to cover shows and movies. Not a huge amount but will be trying to bring you more content. Thank you for watching!
This is the ONLY show that has ever shown the SPARTAN-IIs as what they really are in the lore - an ENTIRELY new evolution of human. They are godlike in more ways than one. And there is in fact a philosophical question to be asked about AI and enhanced humans when they end up losing their humanity as soldiers. That's what makes Halo beautiful.
I like how Kai thought of the connection between the title of Forward Unto Dawn and the rising dawn at the end of the movie. But I hope he knows that the ship that Chief boards and goes into cryosleep at the end of H3 (and beginning of H4) is called the Forward Unto Dawn.
It’s crazy cause Lasky is a year older than John. Blue Team are only 15 years old at this point so imagine seeing the faces of the armored behemoths who rescued you turn out to be just kids
Fun fact: John-117 had attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer on April 15, 2526, 11 days before this movie's events (the Battle of Circinius IV, which happened on April 26, 2526). John-117 was born March 7, 2511, making him barely 15-years-old here, roughly one year younger than Lasky. 23:10 Reminding you that MJOLNIR armor weighs a thousand pounds. 23:40 And here we have SPARTAN Blue Team, consisting of John-117, Kelly-087, Frederic-104, and (piloting the Pelican) Linda-058. At this point in time, they are all 15-years-old, one year younger than Thomas Lasky.
@@kaizammit No thank you for the content. If you want more Halo content to react to I'd recommend Halo Evolutions: Mona Lisa, that's an animation but still good
I think we hear that some of the kids parents are high ranking officials at some point, So It's probably like a military academy for young officers so some of the kids are pretty young.
I love seeing people react to this being like "this isn't that bad" to "that was actually good" to "this is actually really good" to "that was fucking awesome!"
The fall or rather battle of Circinius IV took place at the start of the war in 2526, by that point, the Spartans would have been about 15 years old. Just a year into their augments.
There really should be a 'do you have a grenade? Are you behind a Hunter? Press left trigger to jam the grenade into the hunter. You also might want to run." prompt.
It's never too late to work in film or have a try at it. Doesn't matter if you're making your own films or behind the scenes on a corporate gig. There's so many avenues to go down. What's your experience and where are you based?
I love this film especially the space elevator scene. One ship then two then three and then they shoot down the space elevator. And yes Chief and the other Spartans are still teens here. I think the Spartans are 16 or 17 in this. This is before most of humanity even knew about the Covenant. ONI kept quiet even to their high ups about it thats why the people in command here were even confused.
small funfact about the worthog is , thats a real fan built car that the studio was impressed with and borrowed it for the production , if i remember right the dude made all the switches and buttons function as they would canonically , one thing i dont quite rememeber is if the turrent is added as a prop or if its a real one thats been disarmed and is there for the looks
The little movie is truly one of my favourite pieces of Halo content. You can tell they really appreciated Halo and brought something fans far and wide could enjoy. With the limited budget I think they did a fantastic job working with what they had and still being able to bring you into this fanatical world where you care about the characters. Funnily enough I had a friend who was a soft Halo fan. Played the games but never really dived too deep into the lore past the games. He had watched the Paramount show and thought it was alright. Recently we did a full game series play through and then at the end watched some of the short film content. When we got to this he was blown away. He even got a little emotional when Chyler died, he was shocked cause of how little we are with the characters cause of the film length that he cared that much lol. In his own time he went back and watched season 1 of the paramount show and could hardly watch it lol. He’s like ok…. I think I’m seeing why it got received so badly now that I’ve been brought up to date lol. Great reaction and glad you enjoyed yourself! This movie will always hold a special place in my heart and I will always appreciate them for making it. I loved the rock Chief picked up and gave to Laskey at the end. It’s a cool moment said with the least amount of words possible but such a powerful moment for Laskey moving forward.
Spartans don't have ranks. The rank of Spartan is the only thing they have. Honestly, if anything he should have said Spartan 117. He has never called himself Master Chief@@for_the_lore5567
"Look what the Paramount show needs to mimic a fraction of our power..." Besides the memes though; The school exterior shots in this were filmed at Simon Frasier University in British Columbia, Canada - the same place StarGate SG-1, Battlestar, and a bunch of other sci-fi things have gone for 'future architecture'. I've been there a couple times. The 'paintballs' are also *somewhat* realistic. We use a very similar thing in the Canadian Forces called simunitions, which are training rounds fired through real rifles. They replace the bullet with a tiny paintball, and use a small fraction of the gunpowder, but when you use them in force-on-force training you need to wear full-face protection to avoid taking out people's eyes or chipping teeth. They feel like airsoft BBs. The Halo version is obviously a bit different, since in the lore they're supposed to air-burst before actually hitting the person, and they're full of a topical anesthetic which also causes fibre bundles in the armour to seize up and disable limbs. Honestly those additions are a bit much to me, since in training you'd just consider someone who was hit to be 'dead' or 'injured' and have them lay down on the ground - no need to potentially OD people on anesthetic during training. For the pacing and characters, I liked that they went against expectations a decent bit. The finale was obviously Halo, but they didn't rush things, and let the set-up for payoffs have room to breathe with the character development. I think all the limitations of budget just show how well they utilized what they had to work with, as opposed to being handed tens of millions and then blowing it on something no one asked for.
The funniest thing is when Forward Onto Dawn came out a big part of the community, not hated but saw this film as a bad halo movie. But now with the very unpopular and hated TV show. Everyone is the Thanos meme. “Perhaps I treated you to harshly”. Also the chief and Spartans are I believe 15 here.
I disagree. I was quite deep into the lore at the time and I loved this movie. It was clearly a B-movie and it made me think: "Imagine if they actually made an A-list Halo movie." But I never thought it was bad. Just that it could have been even better with a bigger budget. (The Halo series has proven past me very, very, wrong.) Nor did most of the people I talked to about it think it was a bad film. Just that it could have been even better with more attention. It's honestly the one piece of Halo media that I show and recommend to people who don't play video games. The ending in particular was so spectacular when Sully asks how old they are and you realize everyone sitting in the back of that Pelican is the same age. And seeing things like the invisible Elite was done so well from the perspective of people who didn't know anything about the Covenant.
@@Vitalabyss See majority of the people I talk to and asked about it, said the same things they said it was a bad movie but a ok piece of halo media. I also think when I asked more people was around the time of all the classic halo fans were hating on the new halo games. I didn’t know for sure if they were 15 or the same age as each other, that’s why I put I think but thank you for your perspective. If you’re still deep into halo lore, what’s a good halo book recommendation?
Forward Unto Dawn doesn't have the budget of the new Halo TV show but still clears it by miles. I usually don't like reaction content but your insight into these Halo games/films is something I really enjoy!
First watched it back in 2013 when Machinima was approaching the height of its dominance in the world of pop culture in gaming. Its such a great movie, brings back good memories.
I forget where I learned this, but, everyone in the space elevator was falling for roughly 1 and a half minutes. Meaning that they were at skydiving altitude when the elevator was shot
This is an incredible movie, I cant wait to watch you review it Sunday. I dont know if anyone mentioned this, but theirs still lots of Halo 3 videos used for advertisements that were incredible. They are a collection of what is made to look like UNSC Military vets that survived the events of Halo 3. Its supposed to be far into the future, all the vets are much much older. It always got to my heart, because the actors all acted like they really did live through the Halo 3 earth conflict.... and they were all gonna die till Master Chief came. My fav line was "I remember where I was... when Master Chief armed his Grenade..." Theirs a video with them called "Halo 3 Believe Campaign (FULL - All Interviews)" Also I havnt checked yet, but you should also check out the Halo 3 ODST add " Halo 3: ODST - Live Action Movie (Extended Version) | HD" its fantastic, BUT I just am not sure, you might have reviewed it already. Their is no series like HALO. Mario might sell more, as a first party... but Halo is incredibly special and the greatest "Serious" 1st party series to exist, it transcends the games genre.
To be clear, I said "I cant wait to watch you review it Sunday" because I am doing religious stuff and I cant play or watch anything Halo except on Sundays lol XD Peace be with you all.
I've already covered the Believe campaign (Patreon Exclusive) and the full reaction to this movie is also on there. Full Movie! Thank you so much for your support, you made my eyes water! The road to ODST starts very soon, I've already recorded one video, not uploaded yet! I hope you enjoy the video.
11:16 Medically Discharge, because the cryo substance to bevent clotting of blood in rare cases is fatal/death. He dose eventfully stay, and become Captain Laskey. (Infinity Supercarrier Halo 4). Also Master Chief. the Covent war was in the outer rim at the time. reach was when the fall of reach and the Huge inner rim battle.
I think you'd enjoy HALO - [Fan Animation] - Remember by SODAZ. If you liked Reach I highly recommend it, its incredible and it took 1 guy a little over a year to make.
I had pneumonia bad enough to warrant a medical discharge, they said it'd be a long hard road to be fit for full duty, especially for bootcamp, I said I like a challenge. Best decision of my life.
A reminder that John (Spartan 117 / The Master Chief) is only about 24-25 by the time of HALO4, assuming you take his time in cryo after H3 to have his age 'on pause'. He's robotic and doesn't respond well to others because, like all the other SPARTAN-IIs, he was a child when it all began for him. He has lived a life of war, and almost half of that was spent with Cortana riding shotgun in his head.
Incorrect, Chief was born in 2511 and the Covenant War ended (technically) in 2552, with the actual ceremony taking place in March of 2553. Subtracting the four years in cryo after Halo three, and he's biologically in his mid to late 40s. John didn't meet Cortana until just prior to the Battle of Reach in 2552, only about six or seven months before the end of the war.
I stumbled upon your channel a couple months ago. I love watching you analyze and breakdown the shots and strategies that filmmakers use to bring emotion or emphasis with certain situations. I love seeing someone else being passionate about Halo and its many stories. Much love man
23:40 You might think they're the same age but chief and the other Spartans are 14/15 when this film takes place so the cadets are actually older than them I believe
Man, I remember watching this for the first time and not getting it at all. I just thought the fight scene at the end and all the imagery about the UNSC and whatnot was cool as hell. Now that I've enriched myself in all the lore, coming back to this with fresh eyes really gives me a newfound respect for it. It's really fun and exciting.
I definitely appreciate how well they used their limited budget for this, the way they used lots of lighting and clever choices (like the invisible elite) to limit how many major VFX shots they had to do was great. When I first watched it I didn't like how long the early teen drama bits dragged on but rewatching it I actually appreciate the pacing as it really drives home how sudden and horrific the Covenant invasion is. All that teen drama with (relatively) low stakes is suddenly upended and everything these kids knew is wiped out in minutes. It's a central theme of the Halo series, humanity being massively outmatched by the brutal Covenant, and it's presented extremely well here. It also really impresses upon you how inspiring the Master Chief is for the rest of humanity, the super hero that can take on the monsters and win.
You have me in tears. I'm laughing so much at your reactions here, especially around the 16:15 mark. "...shit enough bricks to make a house." The editing of this was very entertaining. Keep doing your thing!
Crazy they made this over 10 years ago, and now they've made a tv show that isn't even a fraction as good as this movie. I always wanted a tv show from a marine perspective in Halo, and this is as close as we'll ever get.
As I said in the intro, I've wanted to do this for a while but thanks to the Patrons, I can actually do it every now and then. I'm trying to aim for 1 every month or couple of months depending on how it goes. My gaming cinematics will still be every week, should be. Fingers crossed!
10:42 "It's the fukin' bois, that's what it is." Hell yeah, brother. I love that we had the same reaction to this. Also - you mentioned the cuts to black throughout - this originally was released as a miniseries rather than a full length feature. They may have been cost saving as well, but those cut to blacks were where they cut each episode. It's one of the only pieces of media that I would count down the days to it's next release and watch it the moment it came out. Pre-halo 4 days were good days for the franchise's media....
I like how “forward unto dawn” means something in the movies context, rather then it being just a cool name. It’s about Lasky moving forward from his sense of abandonment due to brothers passing. His mother on constant deployment. And chylers death at the hands of the covenant. By nearly sacrificing himself so the chief had an opening. He proved that even with no ammo. Or anything to help him. His ability to come up with tactics on the fly proved that he was, in fact, worthy. At the flash forward near the ending of the movie, where it shows lasky in the infinity before halo 4, He remembers that he’s fighting for someone else’s chyler. For someone else’s Cadmon lasky, So that a generation not yet created, can move forward unto dawn.
Thank you so much! I hope I can keep entertaining and teaching you guys as the channel reaches its first year anniversary. I hope you enjoyed the video. KZ
Im so happy you got to hit a milestone for your channel to view & review a full feature film, wonderful to see all your reactions to it & the breakdown, you were invested & captivated the moment you started watching.
i’ve watched all of your halo reactions and i’m loving your breakdowns of what the show does to illicit feelings and things by camera movement etc, really enjoying it :)
I remember seeing this when it came out just prior to Halo 4. This was some great commentary with your insight on the process. Some of those harsh cuts to black come from the original marketing timeline - this was originally released as 5 separated parts over the duration of the Halo 4 promo schedule.
The final line from them was left out, but for anyone who hasn't seen it by now ( Yes, I will spoil.. the film is nearly a decade old.) The cadets ask the Spartans "How old are you guys?" out of sheer disbelief. They reply "That's classified", and didn't say anything else; It's a very good choice of a one-liner that encapsulates so much behind the (unethical) creation of the Spartans and what they were originally meant for, which was essentially the UNSC using child soldiers to fight Insurrections.
The contacts were weird to provide a somewhat uncanny look to the Spartan IIs. They don’t have the same emotions as we do and are heavily augmented so it makes sense
I understand that they used them to show that look but struggle with a lot of contact lenses in films or high end projects. The Witcher TV show was another, they look like contacts and so it pulls me out of the experience a little. It's a difficult thing absolutely to make look real but there must be something else to make it work.
Fun fact: Lasky and Master Chief have the same age and most Spartan 2, in other words, here John has already achieved the highest rank possible at around 15-16 years old.
There's a nice little easter egg for book readers in this, the bit where Master Chief blocks the needler with is arm and returns fire is a reference to a scene from the short story "Palace Hotel" from Halo: Evolutions. The Chief basically uses Spartan time to headshot and defend a squad of marines that happens to contain someone he knew from kindergarten.
This was also released episodically so that may explain the slow passing at the start. Was released in 5 parts if I remember (training > backstory > injury > covenant arrives > hunters)
You didn't include the best bit. In the pelican at the end the chief gives Lasky a fragment of hunter armour and is the first person to every say 'Well Done'
I actually got to take pictures with the Warthog used in the fight when Chief shows up. It’s freaking huge, and they got someone to actually make a functional one to specs for the movie. Also yes this was low budget but this is the best we have seen from Halo live action and they respected the medium when making it not just as a story telling promotional piece but out of genuine love for the story and franchise. I want more Halo shows and quality for the correct storyline, like this.
Noticeably small, almost "machinima" budget, very specific demographic, a slow burn before the action picked up, but at the end of the day, it achieved its goal in my eyes. Tells a compelling backstory for Lasky and establishes a more cinematic take on Halo lore. The slow burn soured things quite a bit for some halo fans, and I can't give it better than a 7 out of 10, but it showed me that Halo could do great on the cinema screen. Keyword "Could"
"They still haven't picked up he's allergic to it." It's been a while since I've seen Forward Unto Dawn (should really give it a proper watch again), but the simple answer was: They didn't care. He's training to be a soldier, he either overcomes or backs down. Eventually it's shown to be bad enough that he could get a discharge. Though I never quite understood the intention behind the 'mechanic', since slipspace travel doesn't generally involve cryo. Oh well, great movie.
Love the intersection of your training and occupation with the fact that you've got the background knowledge of Halo's story beyond just the games here mate. Good stuff!
I guess you could say the cuts to black were to save money, but when this came out years ago, they came out in episodes. So like the best episode was when the covenant arrived and left us at a cliff hangar.
when you said that the cadets don't know what the covenant was, this movie happened a year into the war, so the glassing and invasion of Harvest was kept under super tight wraps by ONI so most of the general populus still didn't know what the covenant.
Filmed in BC, Canada. BC Boy Danial Cudmore (Xmen Colossus) plays Chief and expresses himself well without taking off his Helmet. Also the actor who currently played "SOAP" in MW Call of Duty has small part.
Oh wow, video is only 22 hours old? Forward Unto Dawn Cinematic is/was AMAZING. It showed a little-thought-of part of Halo -- that there was a government entity who was actually hiding the Covenant invasion, and it shows how people slowly saw/found out about Spartans and Covenant exist, and how suddenly and intense invasions could be (although this is a low-scale intensity, tbh). Its another "chills down my spine" goosebumps video..
@@kaizammit no you haha! I wish i was talking about the master chief then it wouldn’t sound so weird 😭 Tone of voice is great! Could genuinely listen to your reviews all day long 😂

I remember waiting for each episode
Same thing with Halo fall of Reach io think
Halo Nightfall was like that and the movie was shorter than all episodes combined
Chief not taking off his helm served two purposes for me. Partly for the fan service of "Haha, we never see his face." but also that he was at the back of the Pelican, keeping watch until the doors closed. He was still in combat mode.
For all its faults, it still understood the role of the Chief better than Paramount’s show ever has
tbh the only bad thing about fud is the overuse of slo mo (imo)
Faults? What faults? At least it was respectful and fit in with canon.
@@hunterh1175 I actually enjoyed the slomo but I can understand why you didnt.
@@Yourhandlesystemsucks I really don’t get how seeing Chief jump down 3 meters for 10 seconds is worth it, most of the other slo mo shots are aok but that one makes me cringe every time lol

@hunterh1175 I've spoken with the director and he's acknowledged the too much slomo. It was also in fashion then.
The bodies falling from the space elevator with the screams never fails to give me the chills. What an awful way to die.
Damn it i just managed to suppress that fact in my head...
Id honestly take falling to my death over being impaled by an energy sword, hit by a needle rifle then exploding, or scorched to ashes to by plasma fire… at least it’d be somewhat instant when I hit the ground🫤
@@Sauce_Sensei I said it'd be an awful way to die, not the worst way ;)
@@Sauce_Senseiyeah but you’re thinking about it all the way down. getting hit by a plasma round or impaled by an energy sword are more or less instant

I actually love the contacts and the way they portrayed the spartans. I wish they did it this way in the show. Ordinary humans should look at spartans with awe, and the spartans should look superhuman in and out of the suit.
More of this, less arbitrary "emotion suppression" pellets.
@@smmk88is that seriously what paramount did?
@@agenda3854yep which was beyond stupid
It's leagues better than Master Cheeks being a regular dude in power armor.
armor first then sam died. they didnt know how to work on their own armor yet
I've known the history for a while, but I never made the connection that the Spartans were younger than Lasky and co at this point.
@@MrAngelBites They didn't have shields at the start of the war, so their Mjolnir was a lot more vulnerable to plasma back then.
One thing that could be of interest to you about Halo media, which is often overlooked, is "Halo: Legends" its a collection of 7 short films made by different japanese anime studios. They are kind of weird with the combination of Halo + over the top anime action but they're a fun watch.
Legends is great! It's like the matrix series of shorts.
I cannot agree more with this suggestion. I think Kai will especially like the different artstyles Legends has.
Odd One Out be like
bro fr, my favourite is still origins part 2.
I’d highly recommend the Halo 3 ODST “we are ODST” TV ad. It packs a lot of story into only a few minutes and it’s filmed brilliantly
All live action ODST even the Russian and Asian fan made videos are drop dead gorgeous.
Back when video game marketing was incredible
If we could give these guys the paramount budget, it would be perfect. Absolutely perfect
Finally you’re covering this piece!
Yes, thanks to the Patrons support, I am now starting to cover shows and movies. Not a huge amount but will be trying to bring you more content. Thank you for watching!
I want to like this, but I'd ruin the perfect like score.
You can see my face, let alone there's! That was such a great story pay-off. Love it!
the fact that master chief is only about 14 in this is insane, just shows how the augmentations were next level.
It was 15, i know it because the movie takes place in 2526 and sam-034 died in 2525
Fun fact: John-117 had attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer on April 15, 2526, 11 days before this movie's events (the Battle of Circinius IV, which happened on April 26, 2526).
Something most people don’t know, unless they watch led the bonus scenes on the disc, they built an actually functioning Warthog for this movie
It looks like it, I'd love to rip around in that thing.
@@kaizammit you and every other halo fan
I love how at the beginning he said the teenage actors aren't very believable for him at least yet and 20 minutes later he is basically crying :D
I know right! I hate teenage drama films and here I was... muppet. Thanks for watching! KZ
Ive always said that the move Chief does on the Hunter should be an assassination move in the games.
It’s a mod for Reach
There really should be a 'do you have a grenade? Are you behind a Hunter? Press left trigger to jam the grenade into the hunter. You also might want to run." prompt.
As a massive halo fan and someone who wants to work in film i absolutely love these videos
ONI kept quiet even to their high ups about it thats why the people in command here were even confused.
small funfact about the worthog is , thats a real fan built car that the studio was impressed with and borrowed it for the production , if i remember right the dude made all the switches and buttons function as they would canonically , one thing i dont quite rememeber is if the turrent is added as a prop or if its a real one thats been disarmed and is there for the looks
you are right, in the books when the spartan 2's were first deployed (against insurgents) they were like 15.
In term of Timeline, this is like the 2nd time or so Master Chief encounter the Hunters, hence he is still new at fighting them.
My biggest gripe is that Master Chief would not say "call me Master Chief" he would literally tell them that he is Petty Officer 117
That line didn’t age well lol.
I get what they were going for, but, yeah lol. Could've done without that line
Isn't his full rank Master Chief Petty Officer?
Don't get why, he's literally telling them to refer to him by his rank.
Spartans don't have ranks. The rank of Spartan is the only thing they have. Honestly, if anything he should have said Spartan 117. He has never called himself Master Chief@@for_the_lore5567
"Look what the Paramount show needs to mimic a fraction of our power..."
Besides the memes though;
The school exterior shots in this were filmed at Simon Frasier University in British Columbia, Canada - the same place StarGate SG-1, Battlestar, and a bunch of other sci-fi things have gone for 'future architecture'.
See how amazing that actor is who played chief.. he didn’t take his helmet off and you fall in love with him!😂😂😂
I will never forget that shot with the ODST dropping in and out of his pod, that's how you know shit is getting real!
Your halo content is my favorite tbh
I like to cover lots of franchises but I'm glad you've found something on the channel that you like me covering. Thank you so much for watching fella.
@kaizammit i think halo was the best thing to bring me into your content im looking forward to looking into your other breakdowns theyve been awesome
A Halo animated fan film by SODAZ called Remember is pretty awesome too.
That project is incredible!
Yeah it is, I'd like to see his take on it.
@@Vitalabyss Indeed. This film was phenomenal for what it was and what it had to work with.
@@Vitalabyss
See majority of the people I talk to and asked about it, said the same things they said it was a bad movie but a ok piece of halo media.
I remember waiting for each parts to release. When they finally reached the Covenant attack, holy crap.
I forget where I learned this, but, everyone in the space elevator was falling for roughly 1 and a half minutes. Meaning that they were at skydiving altitude when the elevator was shot
WHAT!? Could you imagine...
My fav line was "I remember where I was... when Master Chief armed his Grenade..." Theirs a video with them called "Halo 3 Believe Campaign (FULL - All Interviews)"
Also I havnt checked yet, but you should also check out the Halo 3 ODST add " Halo 3: ODST - Live Action Movie (Extended Version) | HD" its fantastic, BUT I just am not sure, you might have reviewed it already.

That was awesome to read fella! Nice one.
Much love man
whoever the new editor is they did a very good job!
23:40 You might think they're the same age but chief and the other Spartans are 14/15 when this film takes place so the cadets are actually older than them I believe
"Oh it blew up" the excitement in your voice when you said that XD
19:24 it says, “warning! Impact imminent! Fasten seatbelts!”
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching.
Crazy they made this over 10 years ago, and now they've made a tv show that isn't even a fraction as good as this movie. I always wanted a tv show from a marine perspective in Halo, and this is as close as we'll ever get.
At 6 abducted, at 8 became team squad leader, at 14 received augmentations then went on the 1st mission and destroyed a covenant ship.
13:00 one of those falling bodies was Dima, the girl who just got on the elevator...
So happy to see you reacting to longer form content! Really appreciated your take on it.
As I said in the intro, I've wanted to do this for a while but thanks to the Patrons, I can actually do it every now and then. I'm trying to aim for 1 every month or couple of months depending on how it goes. My gaming cinematics will still be every week, should be. Fingers crossed!
10:42 "It's the fukin' bois, that's what it is."
Hell yeah, brother.
This is better than the Paramount series
The editing of that video is really cool ! Well done to the person who did it !

I remember seeing this when it came out just prior to Halo 4. This was some great commentary with your insight on the process.
Some of those harsh cuts to black come from the original marketing timeline - this was originally released as 5 separated parts over the duration of the Halo 4 promo schedule.
Thank you for watching fella.
"That's the fuckin boys that's what it is" gave me a good chuckle ahaha. Love this movie
Sorry for my swearing, excited boy mode kicks in when I film these. KZ
At first, I thought this movie was okay. Then I watched it after seeing Nightfall and damn, it’s a masterpiece in comparison.
Happy to see you covering this movie! Love your content.
Fun fact: Lasky and Master Chief have the same age and most Spartan 2, in other words, here John has already achieved the highest rank possible at around 15-16 years old.
Mate i haven't laughed so much watching someone react to something, enjoyed all of this. Top lad. Had me in bits when you mimicked that Elite
Finally someone reacts to this master piece. The most accurate depiction of the real Master Chief that we'll ever get.
This was also released episodically so that may explain the slow passing at the start. Was released in 5 parts if I remember (training > backstory > injury > covenant arrives > hunters)
Hard to believe they *nailed* it all those years ago, and we got *this* tv show...
You didn't include the best bit. In the pelican at the end the chief gives Lasky a fragment of hunter armour and is the first person to every say 'Well Done'
We're lucky we got this uploaded as it is thanks to the Copyright gods. That's a lovely moment though. Thank you for watching.
Keyword "Could"
Imagine having this come out and th3n years later Paramount manages to ruck up its show so badly
"They still haven't picked up he's allergic to it."
It's been a while since I've seen Forward Unto Dawn (should really give it a proper watch again), but the simple answer was: They didn't care.
The end when they realize how young the spartans are is one of my favorite momment in all of halo
when you said that the cadets don't know what the covenant was, this movie happened a year into the war, so the glassing and invasion of Harvest was kept under super tight wraps by ONI so most of the general populus still didn't know what the covenant.
Gunna sound weird but this guys voice is awesome
The actor who plays Master Chief?
@@kaizammit no you haha! I wish i was talking about the master chief then it wouldn’t sound so weird 😭 Tone of voice is great! Could genuinely listen to your reviews all day long 😂

Best halo production move/film ever love the cast, soundtrack, location it's perfect.
Oh and chiefs armor here is my favorite version
Another solid video, remember watching this when I was 13. Chills down my spine
you gotta think about how this movie was made like 11-12 years ago, it looks amazing for how old it is in my opinion and also the best halo live action ever made
as the show goes along, the school’s intercom in the background announces progressively more urgent messages. nice little detail
