I remember my 5th grade teacher bought one of these brand new in 1980. We were all out there looking at it. He said it was his 1st new vehicle he ever bought.
Wish more people would get creative with the little Isuzu motors that came in these. They're really stout engines. I used to have a built motor in my 78 Luv (bored out, high compression head, weber carb, header) and it was no slouch. Guys in AUS have been building and boosting the 1.8L (came in the Holden Gemini) for a long time and putting down serious power. Or swap in the bigger G200 from an Isuzu Trooper and build that. So much more character than just another small block swap in my opinion....
As a fellow LUV enthusiast and general gear head, this is an awesome build! My 75 is kind of opposite end of the spectrum. Went with a carbureted 4.3 for a budget daily driver. I see you have square setup with the slicks? You plan on this being a grip track build or just like the look?
What kind of cost was the engine swap? Block, trans, wiring harness? Everything but body?? Thinking about doing the same thing and trying to get an idea
I got a 78 sidestep im wanna put a inline 6 into it do u think it would fit i doubt it i would probably have to do some work on the chassis but it doesn't hurt to ask
@@rustystick So. Noting wrong with a nice running 4 cylinder engine, nice gas saver, nice little truck, that's all ya need. I like small and humble, gets the job done for what ya need it for. Hope you don't ruin the looks of it and lower it down yi the ground, then this little truck which was once beautiful will look all punched out.
Well I am an auto tech by day, so it wouldn’t be out of my comfort zone. However I’m located way out in northwest Montana and don’t necessarily have the facility to do any crazy builds for other people at the moment.
God forbid you do a little burnout....why go through all that for no tire smoke? Especially for us the one's who gotta watch grandma road test the thing
I love me a LUV but putting an LS in a LUV is a waste of a good motor, there are so many options out there, You got the RWD 3.8, you got the Vortec V6, you have the new LS V6 and you have the millions and millions of 305's that GM made from the Mid 70's to the maid 80's...... There are just too many options to do a swap with other than a LS350.....
Just bought a chevy luv. Was doing research and found your page. So cool!

I love and miss these mini trucks! So useful and fun during high school..great memories.😁
I just guy my LUV and a LS in my shop to do exactly this. I will hit you up with some questions shortly. Outstanding job!
I've got a close to museum quality 73 Luv. Mild 350/350. She stops traffic like nothing I've ever owned.
That’s awesome! Everywhere I drive this truck it’s a head turner!
Now you need a great exhaust system.
Flow masters would sound great.
Nothing but love from Utah!
Awesome build…love the old analog cars and trucks..no computers! 👍😁 sounds like you stroked out the motor or are running solid lifters…nice 😄
